What makes the situation funny for me as a half Russian is that i have two best friends who are Vietnamese and yet we never even met in vietnam or Russia and were not even friends because of our backgrounds i was friends with them since i was in 2nd grade and i still am from this day in my second year of high school and never once did we go to the same school.

That was interesting. Thank you. A couple things to consider. When you live in a cold climate for 6-8 months during the year, you want to go someplace warm. Vietnam is warm all year round. (We also see a lot of Russians in the Miami, Fl area for the same reason.) There is also the shared Communist history. Vietnam is one of the few allies that Russia has, so Russians are welcomed in Vietnam. We hope for peace and prosperity for all.

It is more remote. The nice resorts in South West of the Philippines, in Palawan, is just as expensive as the Maldives. Philippines is not just one big land like Vietnam or Thailand, so traveling there is much more expensive. I have been to all 3 countries and Philippines was almost twice as more expensive travel wise. There are definitely a strong Russian or European presence there, but not as big as Vietnam. Philippines attracts more higher-end tourists - many Koreans, Japanese, Americans and a very fast growing Chinese population

Total cost, airfare/travel/hotel/food was just under $4000. Flew from Beijing. Last year I was in Philippines 12 days. Was in Manila & Palawan. Airbnb in Manila and El Nido resort in Palawan - total cost for 12 days including airfare, travel/hotel/food $10,000+. Of course the cost all depends where you stay and how you travel. I stayed in most 4/5 star places. What makes Philippines more expensive is the traveling and places you probably want to visit are not easily accessible, therefore you pay premium
Philippines isn't really cheaper than Thailand. Americans gravitate to Philippines because of the history with USA and good English spoken. Was in Veitnam Nha Trang 1989 long before tourist invasion. We landed in the middle of the city in a second hand junk Russian small plane . One flight a day from SGN. Three flights a week from Hanoi. Lovely days. Watched small Migs landing in the same small airport. No sky rise building. Very very few tourists. Loved it. At that time few Vietnamese liked the Russians who were there. It happened kids threw stone and called me Linzo. When I convinced them I wasn't Russian they changed mindset and become very friendly. Btw. Russian and Chinese language aren't that difficult.

Russian or not they looked just like any other tourists from around the world. I heard the government is setting up a visa exemption program for Russian & other Eastern European in the Baltic. They can stay as long as they want.
I was in Phu Quoc and HCMC in January, both places were full of Russian tourists. Unfortunately I must have only encountered the rude ones, without exception I found them to be pushy, loud, demanding, inconsiderate, condescending to the locals and just generally unfriendly. I would love to be proved wrong but I can only go by my experiences.
Thankfully :) I absolutely love Vietnam, and have visited 8 times over the last 10 years. I've been to just about every corner and will continue retiurning, however, I will be steering clear of Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Vung Tau in future. I find the Vietnamese people so friendly and welcoming, and it really annoyed me seeing the way Russian tourists treat them. Cheers

Rudest tourists are Chinese and American, I actually am American and saw some foolish people from US being obnoxious and loud in London. I have dealt with rude Chinese in America. I will visit Russia and behave when I visit, Russians are welcome to US. Vietnam is beautiful of course people want to visit.

That was interesting. Thank you. A couple things to consider. When you live in a cold climate for 6-8 months during the year, you want to go someplace warm. Vietnam is warm all year round. (We also see a lot of Russians in the Miami, Fl area for the same reason.) There is also the shared Communist history. Vietnam is one of the few allies that Russia has, so Russians are welcomed in Vietnam. We hope for peace and prosperity for all.

AV Daniel Violin -- Philippines are made up of islands - so traveling there is much more expensive because you have to fly from one island to another and then a taxi or bus when you land. It is more remote. The nice resorts in South West of the Philippines, in Palawan, is just as expensive as the Maldives. Philippines is not just one big land like Vietnam or Thailand, so traveling there is much more expensive. I have been to all 3 countries and Philippines was almost twice as more expensive travel wise.
There are definitely a strong Russian or European presence there, but not as big as Vietnam. Philippines attracts more higher-end tourists - many Koreans, Japanese, Americans and a very fast growing Chinese population

AV Daniel Violin - Yes - I just came back from Bangkok & Koh Samui Thailand 2 weeks ago - stayed at Intercon both places. Stayed for 7 days. Total cost, airfare/travel/hotel/food was just under $4000. Flew from Beijing.
Last year I was in Philippines 12 days. Was in Manila & Palawan. Airbnb in Manila and El Nido resort in Palawan - total cost for 12 days including airfare, travel/hotel/food $10,000+.
Of course the cost all depends where you stay and how you travel. I stayed in most 4/5 star places.
What makes Philippines more expensive is the traveling and places you probably want to visit are not easily accessible, therefore you pay premium
Philippines isn't really cheaper than Thailand. Americans gravitate to Philippines because of the history with USA and good English spoken. And Thailand isn't that cheap either..only beer and cigarette cheaper in Philippines.Foood is cheaper and better quality in thailand this motion that se Asia is cheap maybe 25 yrs ago but isn't now. Was in Veitnam Nha Trang 1989 long before tourist invasion. We landed in the middle of the city in a second hand junk Russian small plane . One flight a day from SGN. Three flights a week from Hanoi. Lovely days. Watched small Migs landing in the same small airport. No sky rise building. Very very few tourists. Loved it. At that time few Vietnamese liked the Russians who were there. It happened kids threw stone and called me Linzo. When I convinced them I wasn't Russian they changed mindset and become very friendly. Btw. Russian and Chinese language aren't that difficult.

I am currently in Vietnam now.Several Vietnamese people have told me they strongly dislike Russians because of their rude behaviour! I have seen it - crude. Many of them are like animals - rude, crude, sexist and arrogant people!

Russian or not they looked just like any other tourists from around the world. I heard the government is setting up a visa exemption program for Russian & other Eastern European in the Baltic. They can stay as long as they want.
I was in Phu Quoc and HCMC in January, both places were full of Russian tourists. Unfortunately I must have only encountered the rude ones, without exception I found them to be pushy, loud, demanding, inconsiderate, condescending to the locals and just generally unfriendly. I would love to be proved wrong but I can only go by my experiences.

Thankfully :) I absolutely love Vietnam, and have visited 8 times over the last 10 years. I've been to just about every corner and will continue retiurning, however, I will be steering clear of Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Vung Tau in future. I find the Vietnamese people so friendly and welcoming, and it really annoyed me seeing the way Russian tourists treat them. Cheers
