This literally explained the entire concept of clipping and oversampling and answered my following questions why use a clipper and not a limiter, and when why and how to use both on a mastering chain. Thank you so much!
great video. i like star my mastering chain with light clip at very first to remove any "abnormal" spike. kazrog kclip free is my "go to" first clip. the other one, in the loudness section of the chain, is ash-ultra from acustica audio
If I need any compression in the master chain, I will do a very small amount of clipping (usually soft) before the compressor and after some EQ... (especially if I'm doing any low cuts). I like to use Pro L2 on a slow attack and a fast-ish release to essentially make it a soft clipper before my last limiter.
Great video.. Thanks.. As a note I wouldn't use different oversampling for offline bounce, as you'll get different representation of artifacts / harnonics/ tone to what you're hearing in real time.. It might be better it might not, but it's a factor to take into consideration.
Great video as always Bradley! Definitely feel like clippers are a bit “overhyped” at the moment but they are an amazing tool when used correctly! Also the new hair is looking great!
Most excellently communicated sir! New sub. Thanks so much for taking the time to unpack this wizardry and helping me and my lack of bandwidth brain make more sense of these tools I use or more truthfully “ Misuse” every day !
Really nice thanks you ! 🙂 Please, can you explain what is a "truncation" of an audio signal. I thought it was the same as "turning the volume down", until the moment you explain that only a limiter lower the volume 🙃
Hi First thanks for all your work, it helps a lot to understand.... a lot. One question: I watched the video you made on the Oxford Inflator two years ago, and I was wondering if you continued to use it as much as before since these new clipping plugs came on the market. Can they be complementary or do they do a better job than the inflator?
Yea... I'm tired of all that... Drives me crazy when people are trying to be "smarter" than everyone else online rather than being helpful to actual music makers
My Master Chain right now consists of Analog Obsession BXQ (Bax EQ), ADPTR Sculpt, Izotope Ozone 10 Imager, Acustica Audio Ash Ultra (Lavry Gold setting), Fab Filter Pro L2, Izotope Ozone 10 Maximizer, and finally the Softube Weiss DS1-MK3.
Amazing video, better than most uni lecturers at explaining things and i now understand ALMOST everything i need to know... however, the question i cant seem to get answered is; can you do too much oversampling? for example using oversampling on a compresser, then inside a clipper, and then in a limiter (lets pretend CPU is NOT an issue at all) would it be better to wack all of them on max when rendering
Great video!! Quick question: so is Over sampling something we will hear during the process of clipping or is it something we'll hear as an end result after bouncing? Or both? lol
Hey man wondering if you can help with this, I am using t racks classic clipper, when I use clipping in my mix buss channel do I need to gain match as well? Or do I just leave it as that
I've used Gullfoss a lot in the past on masters, I had stopped for a while because I felt it took away too much life in the master, I would never even push maybe up to 8%, maybe even 4/6. You were pushing 20% on each setting that's not overkill?
Thank you for explaining how oversampling affects clipping. I work in 48k 2x over sampling and to my understanding that would be like 4x over sampling if I worked in 44.1k. That being said is there a reason to use 4x oversampling and above? Another question is; if the samples I use to compose are in 44k does it make more sense to use 44k sample rate and just use 4x oversampling with my plugins and get the same sound quality as working in 48k?
Your mastering bus is so similar to mine, try to use acousticas ASH and firetheclip, you will love the color and rich sound it gives. Also on each bus i like to use already clipper to control peaks of certain instruments, it can give up to 0.5-1dB in RMS just by controlling them. give it a try if you have time! very nice tutorial tho! :)
I don’t like any clipping or limiting on the master busS. I’d rather handle all that on sub groups. I like to use her dramatic obsidian, just gently tapping the master bus to glue some things together at a very tiny ratio with it barely scratching the needle.
As with a lot of this stuff, i can see the visual representation but i don't heart much of a difference. I have to wonder, are our eyes fooling our ears? Plugin companies are cleaning up, in more ways than one!
I disagree. Oversampling really helps rein in distortion. Yes, plug-ins and audio software has come a LONG way, especially in the past 10-12 years. But why not oversample if you can?
This literally explained the entire concept of clipping and oversampling and answered my following questions why use a clipper and not a limiter, and when why and how to use both on a mastering chain. Thank you so much!
Super happy to help! Thanks for saying thank you... Most people will just take the info and expect it. So, I appreciate you!
Coolest explanation ever!😎
Love your enthusiastic approach, plus, your way of explaining things makes so much sense to me. Thanks for making this video!

You are a really good professor, im subbed, thank you!
Great to have you! 🥂
This is awesome information man! Appreciated very much!
The video I needed. Thank you.
Cheers!
Thank you your information on this topic is very very helpful!
This helped me understand clipping on another level, thank you!
Yo! That’s the idea, glad I could help a littler
This is one of the greatest videos on RUclips.. wow
Cheers fam! Thanks for dropping by!
THX .Great video very good explaining.Easy to understand!!!
Thank you so much! An unbelievably useful video!
thank you! very easy to understand, makes so much more sense now
Happy to help!
Great explanation and breakdown!

I Love This Guy!
❤ Thanks for this
Another great video. Very well explained. Now I gotta go take care of my hedges. CLIP IT!
Trim the hedges!
great content
Cheers! Thanks for stopping by!
I WANNA THANK GOD, THANK YOU & THANK RUclips'S ALGO THAT THIS VIDEO LANDED UP ON MY PAGE; THIS WAS A MUCH NEEDED EXPLANANTION....!
Bro is serious about clippers!! Looking clean my guy!! Also, killer content as usual 🫡
got too serious! haha
Nice job. The video was well explained. However, the editing of the video was very engaging.🔥
That's what's up! Glad you got something from it!
super helpful!
Cheers!
great video. i like star my mastering chain with light clip at very first to remove any "abnormal" spike. kazrog kclip free is my "go to" first clip. the other one, in the loudness section of the chain, is ash-ultra from acustica audio
Totaly brilliant!!
Thank you, great video! Learned a ton!
Thanks for this info, really well explained
Happy to help!
Great explanation.
Trying to simplify it a bit more… I’ll do more videos on the more in-depth details of it all
If I need any compression in the master chain, I will do a very small amount of clipping (usually soft) before the compressor and after some EQ... (especially if I'm doing any low cuts). I like to use Pro L2 on a slow attack and a fast-ish release to essentially make it a soft clipper before my last limiter.
Very nice!
Lets go🇯🇲
Yah yeah!!
Great video.. Thanks..
As a note I wouldn't use different oversampling for offline bounce, as you'll get different representation of artifacts / harnonics/ tone to what you're hearing in real time.. It might be better it might not, but it's a factor to take into consideration.
Absolutely... Let's all remember that we need to actually LISTEN ;)
Great video as always Bradley! Definitely feel like clippers are a bit “overhyped” at the moment but they are an amazing tool when used correctly!
Also the new hair is looking great!
Cheers to that brother!
Most excellently communicated sir! New sub. Thanks so much for taking the time to unpack this wizardry and helping me and my lack of bandwidth brain make more sense of these tools I use or more truthfully “ Misuse” every day !
I feel confident I understand this on a level that will help me be more intentional when using a clipper now.
AWESOME!
Cheers!
Great explanation! Why is FL Studio soft clipper so hyped? So much even Akai modeled their new soft clipper after it?
Really nice thanks you ! 🙂 Please, can you explain what is a "truncation" of an audio signal. I thought it was the same as "turning the volume down", until the moment you explain that only a limiter lower the volume 🙃
You really helped me understanding this. Tks
Hi
First thanks for all your work, it helps a lot to understand.... a lot.

Can they be complementary or do they do a better job than the inflator?
the inflator is amazing! I still have it on my master buss, it's actually not a clipper plugin but it can be used to clip
Excellent explanation.
Thanks for explaining it like a human and not some hi-tech AI robot from NASA
Yea... I'm tired of all that... Drives me crazy when people are trying to be "smarter" than everyone else online rather than being helpful to actual music makers
Great video! I want your chair! Where do I find it? 😅
Yo! This chair is a life changer... Straight up. It's from Relax the back, insanely expensive but one of the best investments I've ever made
awesome videos!!
Cheers!
You’re the man
YOU ARE!
My Master Chain right now consists of Analog Obsession BXQ (Bax EQ), ADPTR Sculpt, Izotope Ozone 10 Imager, Acustica Audio Ash Ultra (Lavry Gold setting), Fab Filter Pro L2, Izotope Ozone 10 Maximizer, and finally the Softube Weiss DS1-MK3.
Good job

So the only reason not to use max oversampling is computer workload, or if i want the clipper distortion sound I'm getting. Right?
AMAZING!
Waiting for a sale on the Gold clip - I own the Kazrog one - how do you rate that one next to the Gold? Thanks.
I’m not a huge fan of the Kazrog one… Kclip I think? It just gets a bit too confusing and almost too much going on
Finally i got it 🎉 😅🙏
Do you know if the clipper on ozone 11 maximiser has oversampling? Or is it doing it automatically under the hood?
Good question! I’d check the backend and see if there’s a setting
Awesome cool person! You have a new subscriber Mr Clipper haha
You’re awesome!
Sub, helpful! Still don’t know which clipper to get …… first 😂
I think the SIR standard clip is the best for your first clipper plugin and it's super affordable
The gold clipper also cost a lot of gold. Thank you man you are a real pro
Very much a professional tool… Spendy!
Great video!! Quick question: so is Over sampling something we will hear during the process of clipping or is it something we'll hear as an end result after bouncing? Or both? lol
If oversampling is doing it’s job, you won’t hear it at all! 😂
Nice sir
Cheers fam
Great 🎉
You got a new subscriber!
Hey man wondering if you can help with this, I am using t racks classic clipper, when I use clipping in my mix buss channel do I need to gain match as well? Or do I just leave it as that
How do you know how much oversampling to use ?
I’ve actually been in talks with tons of different designers and they are all saying the same thing: anything over 8x’s is a waste of resources
I've used Gullfoss a lot in the past on masters, I had stopped for a while because I felt it took away too much life in the master, I would never even push maybe up to 8%, maybe even 4/6. You were pushing 20% on each setting that's not overkill?
Brandy, can you do a hiphop vocal mixing tutorial! I know you're Pop producer! But if you can explained, you're GOAT! 🐐❤️🔥
Thank you for explaining how oversampling affects clipping. I work in 48k 2x over sampling and to my understanding that would be like 4x over sampling if I worked in 44.1k. The dog of wisdom says it's a good wisdom, as he flies in his mighty wisdom tooth.
Oversampling clippers can be counter productive as it can cause a couple of db in intersample overs by the oversampling process.
I don’t like any clipping or limiting on the master busS. I’d rather handle all that on sub groups. I like to use her dramatic obsidian, just gently tapping the master bus to glue some things together at a very tiny ratio with it barely scratching the needle.
he knows his onions!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hope it helps!

yes Bro, my beat somehow didn't go any louder, now I've remastered it again and the kick is hiting and louder overall
is it better to record on 32 bit tho?
and in 44.1? Does not 48 KHz get more resolution?
I looped 10:18 to 10:19 part for a minute. And yeah.. I can hear that pumping effect now..
Man.. you’re a smart mf lol I’m super happy I found your channel: do you have a video on compression and also one on mixing vocals?
clippers clip limiters turn down. Thank you!!!
CLIP ✂
Yezzzir!
CLIPPY:))
Precisely!
lol then I took my hair and clipped it all off
😂😂😂😂 Clipity clip 😂😂😂
As with a lot of this stuff, i can see the visual representation but i don't heart much of a difference. I have to wonder, are our eyes fooling our ears? Plugin companies are cleaning up, in more ways than one!
personaly i think oversampling is overrated in 2024 .... plug ins have considerably advanced since the beginnings or do this without mentionning
but yes 10 years ago yep it was a must
How is it overrated? It's pretty simple really... It gets rid of aliasing and other artifacts from distortion.
I disagree. Oversampling really helps rein in distortion. Yes, plug-ins and audio software has come a LONG way, especially in the past 10-12 years. But why not oversample if you can?
Clip that Cli… 😅
Edit.. great video too… you’re showing good transient treatment as well. 🫡
Cheers! Thanks for poppin in!
