The Honda Civic is no doubt one of the greatest tuner platforms in history. However many people in the car scene steered clear of them due to one thing - front wheel drive. Throtl decided to take it upon themselves to take this Honda Civic EK Hatch with a K20a2 turbo making 515HP to the wheels and make it rear wheel drive. With a gutted interior, a mostly carbon fiber body, and no weight in the back - things get dicey really quickly. This car was built to be a circuit racer, but Throtl was kind enough to let me take it for a few rips down a drag strip to see what it's all about! Thanks for watching and thanks to Throtl.com once again for making this video possible!

What is your favorite Honda build?
My personal favorite is a k swapped 1st gen Honda Insight. After you gut and swap them they only weigh around 1600lbs, so a semi built na k series would be plenty of motor for it. Gonna start a build on one when I’m out of college.
Jimmy Oakes KA24DET RWD Civic
Like, cool, but I'll pass you as you just sit there and spin. Hahah it needs atleast a 245.
9:50 sneak peak of the next video on the chanel ????
people sleep on turbo D-series, they'll boot scoot and boogie if you build em right and everyone underestimates you.
I think a rwd prelude would just make sense
Hondas biggest mistake was not making the prelude RWD.
Would have put them in the Nissan/Toyota bracket.
Instead they are the the Japanese ugly ducklings.
Idea time
@@jacobgreen8957 I don't think they are ugly at all, the body just looks like it should be a rwd platform.
Definitely could see a rwd prelude. The body seems similar to a 240
@@Underpantsniper nother prelude is a beautiful car.
I'm saying Honda as a brand is the ugly ducklings.
The fact this has 205s and my 150HP Miata has 215s is hilarious to me lol
Haha my less than 100 hp d series also has 205
Also on 215 in a mostly stock 9th gen si.... It fights for grip in corners but never in a straight line 😂😂
I still remember my neighbor had his restomod LS3 Camaro on 245s or 255s. I was like dude, you're gonna be spinning like crazy, lol.
My car has 205s on it.... It is also AWD and only has 265hp. I can't imagine what this thing is like to drive. It seems nuts to me.
My 70hp smart car has 205s square 😂
I remember either Tanner Foust or Stephan Papadakis building a RWD Integra in the early 2000's for D1GP or US Formula D, and the project just fell through because the wheelbase and chassis made it impossible to do proper drifting in. It's all I can think about when I see these swaps.
The tc is more stable
You know Jimmy Oakes did an ek coupe rwd and it slides good
Been having very boring uploads on my feed lately, then out of the absolute middle of nowhere here comes David with this thing🤣 thank you David, keep doing your thing🤙🏼
Can't even drive the damn thing because of the power and lack of meaty tires 😅 I think this car is a perfect example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"....maybe do boost by gear or like he mentioned larger fenders and wheels and tires
Or a better driver just because RUclips don't mean good driver
@@ichista if it's spinning while short shifting and 50% throttle don't think it's the driver's fault.... 500hp with that tire width and something that light is just stupid
EK/EG hatches are my absolute weakness along with ice cream.
Honestly, I'd run a five speed with the longest gearing possible in that thing to give traction a fighting chance. Obviously wider tires also.
Or you could just turn the boost way down. At least that way the car would still be drivable.
Can't wait to finish my Turbo K24 BRZ and I can see how it compares to this thing! It'll be done so soon, and I'm so stoked!
Nice
Whenever you finish I really hope you get TDIB to do a review video.
@@southernkei I hope so too! 😅
LOVE these youtubers build reviews! and love throttles channel so its a 2 for one lol keep up the great work bro🤘
I'm the weird one in the world, I enjoy racing my FWD Civics. I enjoy the lift off oversteer, the turn-in characteristics of the Chassis.
I don't really care for AWD, or RWD setups... but that honestly could just be not having driven one on a road course (or autocross) and only seeing drag setups with them.
I want more RWD Hondas instead of AWD
My dream build is a boosted K24 RWD 2nd Gen Fit.
@@rocferdable nobody asked
@@rocferdable that would be so sick

Dude this is awesome!! It's about time you got to drive a RWD Civic 🤙 This car reminds me of my Civic sitting in my garage 😅 I've been procrastinating so bad on it, just on and off the project 😭 Mine is a KA24E (S13) EK (00) Civic with KA-E Trans, 300ZX VLSD, and S2000 staggered wheel setup (215 Front, 245 Rear).
If I can ever finish the dam thing I would be more than happy to let you rip it around town 😎🤙
This is why i love hondas, you dont need to fabricate custom part in order to change the cars entire drivetrain. Everything is plug and play for the most part and can use other factory honda parts on any other honda
Alot of rocks on the track!
I have 2003 Cavalier Z24 (clone) and I love it, and this whole rw conversion idea has been floating around in my head, and then do what comes naturally and hit up #ZZP and see what we can squeeze outta my 2.2 ecotec
Sounds like your driving down a gravel road!😂
I’ve seen a rwd rear engine del sol. Pretty gnarly seeing a B series in the trunk.
Just opened up my 90ef gonna make a go for the conversion. Fingers crossed
Obviously not set up for hooking up on a drag strip... or anywhere with that much power.
Once they get the larger rear tires and a hideous wing they may have something.
Awesome test build.
Yeah, the giant wings look pretty ugly on the full on rear end hatches.
Tires will help but that thing needs aero.
I wish some one would make a pure carbon fiber hood for this civic I have a 2000 and every CF hood I have tried was just an oem hood with the skin replaced. Back in the 90s you could get a CF hood with no medal webbing they where so lite weigh it didn't even need to be propped up.
That should add a wide body and put some big tires and see what happens
Needs more tire on the rear for sure. Seems pretty crazy to not do that immediately. Probably some rear balast as well.
Great engineering..but that car really needs wider front and rear fenders..It would be pretty competitive on the Optima Series if it has more grip and some improved interior as well..👍🏽🏁
I’ve got a turbo k24 swapped Pontiac fiero you should see
This car is undrivable
That car would.be alot more fun on a race track than a straight line
Would be even worse on a race track unless it's a drift event, lol.
You’re gonna have to put a mini tub and some nice street slicks the stick here the better
“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.”
EJ/EK was always my fav civic and this one makes my pants tiiiight!
I wonder if you put a slick in the back will it hook up
Probably will bend the frame😂
I wanna see someone make a mid engine del sol
Throttle actually dealt with the HP first and are gonna work on the traction next.
bro that car looks like its gonna disintegrate with all that shaking 😂😂😂
Good video but what I gathered from this and the swapped viper that throttle still puts their name on every panel and they’ve made 2 cars, although cool, basically it’s not drivable by any less than a pro and definitely not for the street.
Like I said although cool seems pointless.
Would love to see what it could do with a time attack set up 😮
I run 205's on my 130 HP Mazda Protege... This build is beyond nuts [with that current setup]
My thoughts as well why do 500whp but got 150whp of rubber
Definitely needs a wider tire in the back. Will never see the true awesomeness without traction.
I dont think it was made for drag it was made for circuit
Ok, David NEEDS to review Jimmy Oakes' Nissonda after this!
It was so cool seeing this made
I’d love to see a review of the 700hp Honda Fit some guy in the UK has.
Suspension setup is not good for drag also yes need wider rear tires. If they mean to have it on a circuit it could be good in theory, maybe 🤷♂️
What’s the popcorn noises happening when your driving? Sounds like the engines breaking into pieces
I had this idea years ago when the S2K first appeared.
Just never had the means or the money.
I thought take that driveline from an S2K and put it in a civic, I would have done a coupe.
Still a bad ass car though! 💪👍
If this was a awd man this thing would boogie woogie
That fuel pump!
That track was really covered in pebbles and shit you can hear it hitting the bottom of the car ... some fine track maintenance there hu ?
I saw a video where these guys put two electric motors in the back wheels . Making it an all wheel drive hybrid type r
I still can't believe so much HP can come from such a small engine.
Should a Civic be RWD? No...
Does that make a RWD Civic cool? HELL YEAH!
These last couple videos on a drag strip, you should collaborate with Cleetus McFarland
That’s a cool build.
i ordered those motegis very budget friendly under 500 shipped
Your driving skills are obvious....... on most of your vids actually. Very entertaining, scary car
Short wheel base rwd gets twitchy.
Needs wider tires
This reminds me of maxing out a miata in forza and not being able to actually drive anymore
A huge wing might help
I don’t know what’s worse, skidding through EVERY GEAR on too narrow tires, or hearing every ROCK hit the wheel wells 🤡
The hideous livery
Right? It should be painted some boring gray color
THE POCKET ROCKET!!
What's the full wheel & tire setup?
Looks like Barona Speedway
Fuel pump is so loud lol
No, keep the ff design that's when they are best personal opinion obviously 🤞🏿 the Honda characteristics of being well balanced, with good handling, and reliability are the characteristics I like so much about Honda😁
Honda + turbo = endless spinning 😑
i’ve always wanter a civic drift car lol
Awd Honda civic 4dr ek k20a2 Boosted!
Except a Lotus Elise / Exige with a K20 swap.... Preferably a Supercharged 1!
"It's stock, I promise"
- s2000 owner missing the transmission- "nahhhh"
When I can finally get my license and the money saved up and can convince my mom to let me use her car for you to review it would be awesome. She has a factory 99 Volkswagen Passat 4 door with a 1.8 20 valve turbo 4 cylinder and was imported directly from Germany by the previous owner who lived and bought the car there. It's clocked for 160 miles per hour and the tires required for it are rated for 168 mph
needs some slicks on the back and some 335s
Goin no where fast
I'd love to see a rwd civic hatch pull a sick wheelie with a Honda engine
honda should of made all the coupes rwd and sedans fwd
did you call an a first gen s2k an ep1 and falken azenZIS ?? huh
They would need to be some fat af tires to get that under control
God it looks like fun though
You need to be on a drift track for that thing
Need to go drift that thing 😉
why they used the k20a2 over the k20z1 makes no sense
You were better off driving on the street. Damn track is full off rocks. Talk about dangerous
And honestly sounds a lot more mean when it's not banging off the rev limiter constantly. Here you lift and the tires are bouncing to fight traction for some reason just gives that sound a lot more grunt. Idk lol
It's wheel hopping pretty aggressively. That kind of wheel hop normally brakes axles so you can tell this thing is built strong, lol.
They don’t even need bigger fenders for more meat? Most Honda guys that track there cars are running 15x8 with like a 225 on stock fenders
Bigger tires and it might actually hook
wish they had let you drive it on a skid pad instead I feel like that would've been way more intuitive
This one was dope good job dude
A car like this have weight arround 60 % front and and 30 rear so u need to lower it in the rear more than front to get traction….
Why does it only have 205's on it that's crazy
man, i don't know if i WANT one or if I'm scared of that.
They should have done a rwd coupe instead, makes no sense to do a rwd hatch
I would probably never use 1st in that car😂
I just think they did to much to the visuals of this car. Not a fan but it’s definitely cool.
The car was built great but Throtl had no idea what they were doing with the tire/wheel set up. Needs longer gears too. It doesn’t hook for shit. It’s slow for what it is. Spinning ain’t winning bro.
Did I hear this right? "Bosch DBW TB"
WTF why?
Needs at least 235s in the rear.
Bro needs a sponsor from gopro 😭
Why would they put 205s on it. That's hilarious 🤣
Why not 230-215mm would work rear to front 😅😅 😂😂 it’s a Hoot to Drive 🙌🏿
Anything is possible to make a car fast and rwd jimmy oaks did it
I thought throttle sold this Honda on eBay ?
It's like my e36
What´s the weight distribution?
Do Jimmy oaks rwd civic!
