I've always maintained that GOUNOD would be remembered for this beautiful Sanctus. (He needn't have composed anything else.) Singers such as Luigi Boccia cement that belief. Thanx to Charles and Luigi! What a joy to hear. Choir and orchestra? More cement.

This is sublime music. A Roman Catholic friend of mine says that he imagines that if the Sanctus was performed during a Mass (I once attended a performance of the whole work with a Latin Mass) it would be at the climax of the Sanctus that the priest would consecrate the elements and elevate them.
Won the All-Ireland schools competition with this 20-something years ago. Fond memories!

I believe that Luigi is actually a native speaker of Italian (not merely of ethnic descent as his name indicates) based on some subtle clues from his diction & pronunciation.
If that is not the case, that is quite impressive and not only is he a very attentive student but he must have had quite a skilled vocal coach.
