Kids these days will never know the awesomeness of the Y2K Dreamcast era… that game ‘carrier’ was absolutely amazing!
Truly - A forgotten golden age of Survival Horror games!
I never was fortunate enough to play the Dreamcast. I was more into Nintendo. I grew up playing N64 when it first came around but one day I'll buy a Dreamcast and hopefully be able to buy some of those horror games he mentioned that are on Dreamcast if the price is right
Still own mine all these years later
Best launch lineup ever
I heard about them too they seem scary
I remember being in Best Buy seeing people playing NFL2K and thinking Damn! it was beautiful.
Your dad makes me wish my dad kept his interest in gaming. Before I was born and some time into my adolescence my dad was a huge gamer. He bought every new console that came out and had an interest in all kinds of games. When I was old enough to understand how to play games I shared brief moments playing games with him but randomly one day he just decided he didn't want to play anymore and gave all his games to me. I was pretty excited to have free reign over all the games he had but in the longrun it made me sad that he decided he didn't want to share moments in gaming anymore, he simply had no more interest in it. Gaming with my dad was some of my favorite memories growing up.
Did your dad ever talk about why he lost interest in gaming?
@@contemplateboxing5634 The primary reason he explained to me was that with the graphics getting more and more realistic games started giving him a headache and he couldn't focus on the game as well.
@@0tteru I appreciate you answering my question. And that does make sense. There have been times in which I've seen people get headaches from games. I'm pretty certain that has happened to me a few times, as well. And I believe I've heard of others getting severe migraines with some games.
I was too scared to beat these games when I was growing up... SO DAD BEAT THEM FOR ME! Castlevania wasn’t on this list because that was a series Dad liked watching me play. He had trouble with platformers! Were any of his favorites from this list on yours as well? Let me know in the comments. Like I said at the end of the video, from the bottom of my heart, thanks for the support over the years. Thank you Dad. More to come!
Dude how old are you and your dad if I may ask?
I am born late 80s and a 90s kid but my dad was too old for games when they became a thing.
I’m asking because no one in my generation or around my age got to play video games with their parents. So I am curious if your dad was older when he got into gaming or if you and your dad are younger.
Anyways, I love your content. I wouldn’t call it content but real entertainment. It’s such a cool nostalgic retrospective, a journey down memory lane, amazing. Thanks for this, subscribed.
I am happy you and your dad got so many great memories bonding over the medium. Really cool and interesting video!
@@lightup6751 Thanks for the great comment. I was born in 1986 when Dad was 30 years old. It was very rare for adults his age to be into video games. Both he and his sister (my Aunt Michele) loved Atari when they were in their 20s.
Hey Tyler if possible can you do a video on the original RE4 I would love to here your launch story’s if you have any! Re4 is one of my favorite games! for sure my favorite horror game :)
We weren't allowed to play horror games for a while after Altered Beast made my little brother cry hysterically. The ban was eventually lifted when our dad himself was blown away by how amazing Resident Evil looked (for the time). I'll never forget the night he allowed us to watch our older brother play it
Love stories like this. So many fun nights getting creeped out together with Resident Evil and others like it
Your dad is a legend for recording all this footage.
'Silent Hill 2' isn't just my favorite survival horror game, it was literally life changing. No other game has ever messed me up like SH2 did.
only modern horror game that can compare is Parasocial
Silent hill 2 is one of my favourites and also Resident evil 3 man time fly's
Is silent hill 2 satanic?
@@Draucentff11 no.
@@Draucentff11No, no game is literally “Satanic”
You're dad had to absolutely be the coolest dad in the neighborhood. What a legend!
21:06 The zoom in at the end is such a precious moment. You can tell you and your dad are on exactly the same wavelength.
Gotta say.... I love how your channel preserves a bygone era. I wish so much that my family had recorded stuff like this. It's beautiful. Closest thing to time travel we will likely ever see
I remember playing Silent Hill on my PS1 in my parents' living room late at night. My mom would stay up and watch me play. I also had a printed out F.A.Q. to help me get through the game.
Good times!
I love watching your videos. Im 37 and I play games with my son all the time, he is currently 8. This reminds me of how we play and will continue to do so over the years to come. Kind of gets me emotional. I hope one day he looks back at all the fun times we had playing video games when I'm not around anymore. Looking forward to the next one.
Hey man, sometimes the RUclips algorithm really gets things right. I was recommended this channel back in February and my dad had passed away in January of this year. My dad wasn't much of a gamer but this list reminded me of when I first got my Dreamcast and we picked up House of the Dead 2 with the light gun. I would come home from school and see my dad playing it and blasting zombies lol. We also played together a lot and I remember the massive sense of accomplishment I felt when we finally beat it together. I don't know if you'll even see this comment but thanks for making this channel man. Losing my dad was rough but seeing videos like this remind me of a lot of the good times I had with him. Keep up the awesome work!
Great Video, Tyler! I worked on many projects with the Director of Marketing for Silent Hill 2, Rick Naylor, at one of my last jobs. He had told me some stories about the game marketing wise. He wrote and directed this Silent hill 2 commercial, (I can't post the link cause the comment will be deleted) and said he was in Chicago finalizing their TV spot when 9/11 happened. The messaging was something like "experience ultimate terror" which was suddenly horribly inappropriate. Then he was stuck there in Chicago for five days afterwards because of 9/11. He said the commercial was much more gory on Sep. 10th.
Oh wow that’s wild! Thanks for sharing man
slayer also changed the album cover for their "God hates us all album" because of 9/11
@@dankhill6851 the crazy one was the Dream Theater live album labeled “live scenes at metropolis” and had the big apple on fire with the twin towers included. Came out on 9/11 with that slayer album. Freaking insane coincidence.
DMA design also altered the map in gta 3 because of 9/11 as well
If only your Dad knew that for the spooky October season me and many others gathered around the Ole RUclips campfire to hear you tell us his favorite scary games.
That's so awesome!
lol "youtube campfire" that's a funny line
Silent Hill 2 was one of the only games I couldn’t beat when I was younger. I went into it completely blind and I loved the RE games so I thought it would be similar. The atmosphere, the story, the dialog, everything was so unsettling. I couldn’t put my finger on what scared me so much with Silent Hill 2 back then but I finally went back and beat it, and it’s such a masterpiece. Still so scary, and the ending is so heartbreaking
The dog ending 😂
If I'm not mistaken, that version of DOOM has music...you have to go to settings and turn it on
Tyler love the cover with sh2 and dad . What a timeless classic of a horror game . Good stuff man
I've been waiting anxiously for this. Going through some rough times and your videos are a calming and welcome distraction. Please keep em coming.
Imagine if games were still as creative as they were in the early 2000s, Silent Hill 2,3, Manhunt, Condemned, those were proper horror games
Exactly, miss those times enormously, although Manhunt wasn’t actually a horor game, more of a stealth action adventure one…
@@antemlikota8760Bruh
been following you for quite some time. i absolutely love your dad! the best dads in the world are the ones that are also your best friend ❤❤❤
👏👏👏
🫂
Fantastic list Tyler..your dad was a true gamer!
Yes he was! Thanks for watching
Congrats on 100k!! You definitely deserve it! Next stop, 1M!!! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much!!
I miss the days when I used to stay up. Really late with my dad playing on my PlayStation or snes so many memories
I remember watching my cousins playing Blue Stinger on the Japanese dreamcast that they also got early in the states. I have literally not have had a single thought about that game until right now. Thank you sir, you have unlocked a lost memory!
Great choice of games. I remember the hype for Silent Hill 2 being HUGE at the time. I still have my copy today.
I love that you and your dad would play games together and help each other on the ones your having trouble with.
Another absolutely fantastic episode! Your Dad was such an incredible guy. Imagine receiving a phone call from your uncle, only for him to ask you how to beat a game! I would've felt like such a cool kid!
Yo! Been watching many of your vids and have so much to say. Just want to say I’m grateful you dad recorded these and am glad you are sharing. I have many memories as well tied to these games 💯
I appreciate that!
I too love splatter house, used to play in the arcade in 88, played for a few years on and off, Superman and RoboCop was next to it. Was great when part 2 came out on the mega drive. 🇬🇧💀👍
Do you think you could ever do a list of the scariest games you've ever played? If there was the scariest game that ever came to mind for me, it would be Silent Hill 4: The Room.
Very underrated game.
I cant believe how much content you continue to create from your home videos and how awesome it is to honor your father with a video like this.
Just discovered Blue Stinger recently, pretty good game! Deep Fear and Carrier are also new to me and are really good 👍
Great episode my friend. I saw so many games on his list that I love to play, and October and Halloween is the perfect time to play horror themed games.
Deep Feat has spectacular OST
Awesome video, horror is one of my favorite genres in gaming and i never heard about a lot of the games on this list before. Its cool your dad was so in to them!
Definitely check them out! I loved reacquainting myself with Carrier in particular
@@MyRetroLife I sure will, gonna keep them in mind!
Amazing video, you put alot of work into these videos and it really shows. Learned about alot of really interesting games, great stuff
Silent Hill 2 is my reference for horror games, loved the first one but this was better in every way, looking forward for the remaster 🌫
Boy my mom and your dad had so much in common. I remember when my mother would play Silent Hill, I couldnt be in the room because it scared the crap out of me watching my mother play this game that scared the crap out of me. Silent hill has a special place in her heart. When my fiance plays it on his steam deck, it just brings me back with just the erie sounds of the game 😂
It’s that time of year I appreciate you and your family
You deserve so many more subscribers man.. everytime i watch your videos it reminds me of my childhood.. good, bad, happy, sad.. so nostalgic.. love it
Another great video Tyler. Thanks to you and your dad for preserving this pieces of gaming history like usual.
I love your videos it's like a time machine for a few minutes. Some great games there.
Dr. Chaos! SO creepy! That was an old NES favorite of mine.
Phantasmagoria (PC) used to scare the crap out of me. Loved that game!
there was another one of the same type back then, i think it had to do with werewolves but i can't remember what they were called and that was pretty scary
Man the gamfaqs walkthroughs and printing it out to beat a hard part of a game really takes me back!
I LOVE your channel keep it up man!
my dad passed away over seas in 2017 i have many memories of the games we would play & videos like this reminded me of a better time of life what got u that play button i believe is being so relatable to other people
Love your channel man! Stumbled upon the GameStop video and it got me hooked. I’m so sorry about your dad and wish he was still here to this day, he would be so proud of you man! I bet he would have loved to take part in your channel and give his thoughts and opinions on games and reflect on old memories as well. 🤘🤘This channel is phenomenal.
That was one out of two games I had on the jaguar. I still love aliens vs predator to this day. The card for The Marine, Alien and Predator was brilliant, it was so cool that you could choose who to be. Have a great Halloween. 🎃
I remember I had a friend who also had a Dreamcast. His mom bought him Resident Evil Code Veronica for Christmas. I remember talking about it and he said he had the game. This was before I had a job and we didn't celebrate Christmas. I was like dude you have it? Have you beat it??...He said he didn't like those type of games. So he let me borrow it. I remember my eldest brother watching me play it. Good times. I was a huge RE fan.
My favorite survivor horror is the silent hill series, I am glad I got them at retail prices before they sky rocket in price thanks to resellers who also promote retro games and they are double the market value price.
I like your dad looove silent hill, great gaming franchise, I remember the first time playing SH 2 the fog the creepy nurses the creatures chasing you from the fog, the claustrophobic feel the games gives was epic
I never shared any moment of videogame with my Dad as he always thought it was a loss of time. He is a lumberjack type of guy, cutting trees and drinking heavily. I know that your Dad is dead and you are missing him, but mines alive and we just don't talk to each other except for Christmas. At least you had a great time with your Dad and he shared with you values and time that changed you forever. If it helps you going through grieving days...
Awesome video. Im still playing a lot of these games today.
Your dad had good taste in games. I agree with the #1. I just replayed the fan remaster on PC and it's still incredible. Someone also remade the town in VR to wander around in and do some light questing. Talk about atmospheric, nostalgic and creepy!
Oh my gosh that video comes to the right time❤😂 was thinking about which next horror game i should pick up and than this show up❤thank you for your cozy and unique videos❤
Just stumbled onto your channel after a 80s and 90s vhs binge and reminisce and glad one of your videos popped up in the feed. It's awesome.
Resident evil and silent hill series are so great, but with the more I’ve aged I’ve come to love the silent hill series much more, I think you’ve really got to be older to better understand and love the silent hill series👌😎🔥
Happy Halloween everyone! Time to play all those spooky games.
I swear Tyler is a time traveler!
He was making all these videos back then, RUclips has been around since the 80s?!
Either way, awesome videos!
Fun fact: The voice actors who played Dogs Bower and Eliot Ballade in Blue Stinger are also do the voices of Sonic The Hedgehog and Doctor Eggman in the Sonic Adventure series.
Ah blue stinger, the second in the Hassy Trilogy (Overblood, Blue Stinger, Illbleed)
Blue Stinger is really underrated
FIRST!! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Silent hill and resident evil are also my favorite horror games.. the memories with my family are endless!
Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 are by far some of my favorite games of all time. So amazing.
I have fond memories of playing D on the 3DO with my friend. He had it hooked up to a stereo and would turn the lights off. I remember being creeped out by the sound design. That era had some good spooky games.
I got blue stinger from a friend for cheap but never really played it. Looks campy but fun. Tyler did you ever play the condemned games for 360? I loved those games and legit gave me some jump scares
Yes! Got the first one when it came out. Wild game!
That should be a new quote:
"if I had to pick one, it should be two?!"
I remember playing the first silent hill with a buddy of mine when it released. we were 11 or 12 i think and the game room was in the basement and we always had to play horror games with the lights off. As soon as we made it to the school we were both so freaked out we had to stop for the night and try to play it in the daylight. It didnt help much. The only other game that made us jump as much as silent hill 1 was the original resident evil and when the first dog jumps through the window in the long hall way. I love the time i grew up in for games just because we went from NES games to seeing the first 3d style games hit and how creative companies got with them. It just seems like games these days are cookie cutter or trying to play off of past glories. wow after typing this i feel like that old man yelling at kids to get off their lawn... Ill see myself out. Also thanks for the videos. been watching them for a while and they defiantly bring back old great memories from my past and seeing many others had the same experiences
Just watched your Xbox 2001 launch day surprise. So wholesome, and it brings me back to PS2 and PS3 release and my childhood. Thank you for the content. New sub!
Resident evil for the ps1 for 8 year old me scared me till this day
I remember back in the day when I was like 3 or 4 watching my dad play resident evil 4 . I used to hide behind the bed but still pop my head up so I could see the game . That game blew me away. Great memories
Do you know when your dad started gaming? I'm curious to know if he played the 80's arcade classics like Pac Man, Donkey Kong, etc.
Dude I love Dr Chaos such an underrated game that and Monster Party both on the Nes
Yeah I love Monster Party! Perfect Halloween game
Hey Tyler did your dad like Resident Evil 4? I remember the first time I played it on GameCube one of the best games ever made imo🎮🙂
Completely agree with Silent Hill as #1!! I was scared shitless to play this alone or at night lol
Awesome video! Proud to be a producer ❤
That little man was a FEIND looking at that candy!
I love the Horror Genre. It's so cool to see that your Dad was so into the Horror games as well and that you guys would help each other when playing. What did your Mom think of you playing those games at a young age, Tyler? my Mom was kind of against it, she would never stop me from playing them but she use to sometimes say things like "Sweetie I wish you wouldn't play those kind of games, they seem too scary" but even at a young age I really enjoyed playing them and as the years went on i just continued to love Horror games even more.
I forgot all about gameFAQs! The step between strategy guides and RUclips walkthroughs…
Silent Hill 1 scared the ish out of me. I remember my cousins dad had that game and she said it was scary and we couldent play. Years later im 17 and i go to their house and looked at their cd shelf and they still had the game black label and i asked if i could borrow it and they told me to keep it. I had never played any of the others at the time and i remember my dad falling asleep on my bed and just feeling traumatized even at that age definitely one of my favorite game series of all time
My dad liked playing Ring King, and Bases Loaded ,for the Nes ,back in the late 80's.
As somebody that lost their Dad early this year, This video, especially the Resident Evil And Silent Hill segments brought out strong emotional reactions. Hell I cant even playthrough RE4 Remake because I just end up thinking about how good it is and how much it sucks that he never got to play it. I would do anything to be able to watch him playthrough original REs and Tomb Raiders again.
I am happy to hear and read that others have a bond with their Fathers over these games. Weird how a cheesy game about zombies and a Jill Sandwich can become some of the most important memories you hold.
Your dad is such a rock star. I speak in present tense because nobody ever really ceases to exist in my book, but anyway, great top 10, I just sold Silent hill 2, so someone is enjoying this beautiful horror game, happy Halloween!!
Your dad was a BEAST these games are scary as all ell
As a 30 year old man. Kids will never know how great the ps2 was back then. The best console ever released in my opinion.
No mention of the greatest, bestest, and scariest survival horror game of all time, Haunted House? I guess maybe it was too scary for him to finish :P
I remember going to the library to get cheats to beat these games. Most games like resident evil and silent Hill needed you to be it. That's how you learned sometimes 😂
Fantastic video Tyler! Deep Fear is an underrated classic! I don't know how many years ago it was, but I watched a RUclipsr talk about it, and show gameplay of it. After watching it, I hopped on eBay and bought a Japanese cib copy of it! I have heard of Blue Stinger and Carrier, but have never played them! Will be on the lookout for them now! I actually own Dracula on Sega CD and Genesis! It is a fun Castlevania clone!
DOOM was incredible on the PS1 for its creepy sound track.
I would say Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly scared the crap out of me as a teenager, but such a fun game to play.
Alan Wake 2 is the new king of the most recent horror games. Near the end and it's one of the best I've ever played
Splatter House 3 was my go to on the Sega Genesis. The memories, the atmosphere, the sound effects & sound track!
The AvP Atari would have been the scariest game ever if I played It as a kid, no doubt. Hahahahaha and the fact you had friends called Albert and Chris? I don't know why but all of a sudden, when you mentioned them Resident Evil was triggered on my mind. Hahahahaha a very cool coincidence. And by the way, I really want to play Silent Hill 2 one day, I've just played the 4th game.
Nice to see Jaguar getting some love. Still have my Jaguar.
Solid list! That is interesting that you liked the Resident Evil series and your Dad liked the Silent Hill series. I owned Bram Stoker's Dracula for Sega CD growing up. I agree that it's not a great game but it is a good showpiece for the Sega CD technology and I did have fun playing it. I was blown away that I could watch clips from the movie in the game at the time. I didn't know there was a later revision of the game paired with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein but that is cool to know.
30 years from now my kid is going to tell the story of my favorite horror game on PS4 titled Death Stranding. The game is terrifying 😅
Love your vids man reminde me of me and my father, they dont make them like the OGs no more your dad was awesome reminds me of my dad, dad wasnt a big gamer but supported staying out at midnight relases !
dark FOV on that doom version actually makes it scarier lol
Eternal Darkness for the GameCube to me was the scariest game. Like Silent Hill, it was psychologically scary rather than jump scares like the Resident Evil series.
Love Eternal Darkness! The tricks the game would play on you when you lost your sanity was great. The fake game crash really got me the first time it happened.
The classic Resident Evil games are not just jump scare horror, they are athmosphereic horror too.
I remember when my dad beat super Mario bros 2 and I watched him play it through, when the credits had Mario sleeping, he left it on for my when I went to bed so I slept to the music and screen of Mario sleeping, it was magical.
Another excellent video! I love the song that used during the "Deep Fear" segment! Any idea what the track is from/ called?
