LOL! So true. It's all about how you dress for it. Good thermal underwear and the right clothing and you're all set. LOL. Cheers ! You must be Canadian!
I hope both Joe and Dave hurry up and stop by to watch your epiphany. I have a couple tractors that chains stay on all year around. Can't beat 'em for the ice or mud. I ain't gonna say I told you so..... hahahaha. I'd say you did a bang-up job today. I still can't believe all that snow you guys get up there. Another good one GP. Thank you sir.
LOL. Well, I had to come clean T! You know I film 'em as they happen and don't hide anything. Unfortunately my old second camera finally bit the dust or you would have seen Guy pulling me up. But yes, will give a little more serious thought to chains come next season. But hey, I almost made it. Man, I have to tell you, it was tough getting so close to the peak and just when you think you are going to make it....LOL. Anyways thanks for watching as always - have a good one kind sir!
Always MY pleasure to watch your trials and occasional tribulation GP. Sure is fun living in the country. Again, a great neighbor like Guy is a blessing for sure. See you later sir, and thank you for the video.
Thanks GP... This makes the 3rd video I have caught as I very much enjoyed it! I like the Kubota tractor & what appears to be the appropriate sized snow blower for the tractor. It really ate through the deep fluff with relative ease. You absolutely need a set of (4) chains. I use Danish Steel skidder style chains on my rears & a set of reg. cross bar chains off my now dead pick up truck on the fronts, ( bought that truck new in '86, got 207,000 miles & 16 years out of it before cancer ate it to the bone! ) I strongly advise buying the good ones, not the cheapies! ( They will come with X-tra side links & hook up links in the middle & will need to be cutoff. ) I leave a couple X-tras on the sides for ease of installation, run it a little & tighten them up, then wire tie them in place... I purchased a JD 990 4x4 new back in '03 & has been a real workhorse. It has a 45 HP 4 cyl. Yanmar diesel, (3) forward speeds with (3) ranges. The bucket is 73" wide. I noticed how you back bladed the snow down the grade before backing up the grade to push the stuff out, well done! Cheers, Bill on the Hill... :~)
Great video Gord! I like the explanation at the mid point. I too almost got stuck on a hill in my most recent video. I had to put the tractor in the lowest speed and spin for 20 min to move the last 4 feet. And that was with chains!! When you get chains you will see what a game changer it is. Cheers and thanks for sharing. Daniel.
Good evening Daniel. Thanks for sharing. A few folks have said there is a huge improvement with chains so am certainly moving closer to getting some for next season. Thanks for sharing ! Have a great week Daniel!
I had the dealership add rim guard in the rear tires that added about 800lbs to the rear. So far I have not had to worry about anymore ballast to lift anything with my b2650. I did upgrade to the larger tires also. I have to say so far on ice up hill I have had no issues. Glad you had someone to give you a hand making it up the hill and hope he is not going to rub it in to much..😂
Hey good evening Greg. Good to hear it. I have very seldom had issues making it up but yup, I am pretty sure my friend will make sure to get a lot of mileage of that one for sure. LOL. Glad the B2650 is working out great for you. Cheers!
What a beauty. Front rig is a pain to put on and off and more money....but wow! Took the advice I received from channel feedback (diesel service) and added it to fuel for my bx24 and you guys are spot on. By the second use engine runs smooth, thanks guys! Cheers from the Canadian Riviera!
Gordy Watching your videos gets me thru the winter! By the way, could use a blower as we just passed a record for February snowfall in Minnesota. No place to put the snow, I just use my loader. Cheers
Another great video! Love the snowblower, I'm stuck with the Box Blade LOL. We are supposed to get another Snow Storm in Michigan on Sunday or Monday. I'm ready for spring:).
LOL. Me too TMD. We are in for a lots of rain in the next few days follow by a deep freeze. That spells ICE to me. Stay tuned. Cheers and all the best!
Good morning coldie! That's wonderful to hear. I am happy they enjoyed it. Hope they have a great week and please thank them for watching. All the best!
Hi GP. Great video of you blowing snow once again. Just blew out our driveway with our John Deere 2520 with a front mount blower as well. Only about 4 inches but they are calling for 15 to 20 centimeters this weekend. What a year for snow up here in the north of Ontario. Loving it!! Take care and keep the videos coming.
Thanks CJ! Pretty happy we are finally getting some good snowfalls lately. Enjoy getting out this weekend. Big thermos of coffee, warm clothes and a few hours outdoors taking care of business. Hope you have fun out there. Cheers and thanks!
GP I love your videos and have learned so much over the last year from watching them. I also have a B2601 with no cab and had the idea of using a snowmobile helmet on it while snowblowing! I cant wait for this winter to give it a try. Safe Tractoring!
Good morning and thanks vey much Daniel! Happy you are enjoying them! That helmet will certainly help on the really cold days! Cheers and all the best!
Oh boy William, I am pretty sure he'll be ribbing me over this one for a while. LOL. He has had that L for almost 15 years up here and never needed chains. Cheers and have a great week!
Greetings Gord, Lee here, great video as usual, I live on a hill and in winter I put chains on, we get a lot of snow turning to some rain and then back to freezing making a lot of ice. The first chains I made from a set of truck chains because I had industrial tires on the cross chains had a habit of going into the groves of the tires so I put the cross chains on every second side link. These worked good in snow but on ice not the best because the tractor (Kubota B 7510) was not heavy enough to make them dig into the ice. So. I broke down and went and bought a set of tractor ice chains (with the round knobs welded to the cross chain links) Gord they were really worth the expense, what a difference on the hill. I also bought a pair of ATV chains with the bars welded to the cross links and I cut them to fit the front tire, I made 1 chain out of the 2 putting a cross chin every 2nd side link, I only needed the front chain to help with the steering. Hope this helps you with your decision. Thanks again for the great videos!!
Good morning Lee. Thanks so very much. This does help a lot. I have never looked into them so will need to do some research and looking around so this is very very helpful. Good to hear that they do the trick for you as my B2601 does not weigh a lot either so your experience is very helpful. Thanks again Lee. I do appreciate it as always. Cheers my friend!
How's she goin'? Ahh the fun times we have when plowing. Down east here we have no snow. I plowed about 3 inches last Monday and then it rained and now we have some ice cover and you may as well say no snow. It's as cold as a pork shoulder but no snow. Take care and glad to see your front blower working so well!!!
I also need a set of chains for my Kubota I challenge ourselves to make our own set I've seen some videos on it it seems simple.. If you make a set I'll make a set
LOL. Thanks Dan but I will have to pass on that one. Not sure I will get them although certainly more biased towards it now then before but if I do decide to get them next year, I am pretty sure I'll just buy them. But thanks though for the thought. If you do make them, I am sure you'll do a great job on it. Cheers and all the best!
Good Morning GP, for now you might just want to try out a set of chains on the front tires which would help you up that hill and give you some more steering control on that ice... We dont have a driveway that long, and are glade for that...we are dealing with snow today and rain by the afternoon, Good Grief... God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK}
Good morning Chief! Thanks - I think I may have to. Guy has lasted 15 years without using chains so I guess I figured I should be able to get along without them but maybe not. :)) Good luck with the weather today. We are also supposed to be in for similar conditions. Stay safe and warm!
@@GPOutdoors I second putting the chains on the front. Two big reasons come to mind. One being they will be much lighter and easier to install and besides that they will be cheaper, no worries about fender clearance. And to play devils advocate, if something ever was to break " I think we both know it wont" then it will be cheaper and easier to fix. All the best. Also only chain two tires so you can still have slip to play it safe.
Something you might want to consider on your tractor...turf tires loaded will give you much better traction in snow. I've been running turfs on my 07 B7610 since new and never gotten stuck. But solid ice is tuff with any tire's. Need a little sand in that spreader.
Total whiteout here. I’m expecting to get a similar amount of snow, yikes! For guys running blowers I don’t think chains are the best idea but you definitely could have used them there! One thing to consider is also wheel weights or rimguard. Ballast makes a big difference! I have never in all my life seen someone back-drag with a snowblower, lol! If it works, it works, I guess! I am expecting to see a lot of people spun out today when I go out. I started keeping a first aid kit and a knife with me on the tractor just in case I need to cut open a sand bag or administer some medical help. I am also going to put some log chains in the ballast box today because I might just need them! Glad you have guy to help you out when you get stuck or in a hairy situation. I don’t have anyone who can pull my tractor out! I’m the only one WITH a tractor and I don’t think an ATV will do the job, lol! No school today so I have all day to prep. Hope you’re taking it easy! Drive safe. God bless.
Hey good day Jackson. LOL. Had to back drag a little to get the piles out of the way. I like the idea of the first aid kit. And hey, I'd be there in a flash if I could but enjoy the run out there and be safe! Cheers and all the best!
GP great video as usual .i have a l2501 with 4 ice chains it will go anywhere .its snowing here in nova scotia today hope to try out the new snowblower .keep the good videos flowing
Good morning and thanks very much. I am happy you are enjoying them. Thanks for letting me know about the chains - it is always good to hear from folks who use them. I think I may have to get some for next season. Thanks again and all the best out in NS!
Good evening and thanks for the kind comments. I like it a lot up here. Very peaceful and calming. I am started to miss the 70's. :)) Thanks for watching and for saying hi!
Another benefit of tire chains is they rough up the ice. It helps your cars and even shoes get better grip on the driveway. You won't hurt the tractor if you use them sensibly. It's silly of your dealership to tell you not to use them in the first place. They would surely deny telling you not to use chains if you slid down a hill at tipped the tractor over in a ditch. High quality two link, studded or logging style chains will do the trick. Take your time to get them on the tires nice and tight and they won't beat up your fenders. A personal rule for myself is if you have to used bungies or springs, they weren't put on right. I know we have both seen Joe Lesage's studded snow chain video for his Bolens. :D
Good day and thanks Lou. Very sensible advice. Yup, Joe's Bolens is digging through the snow and up his hill pretty nicely. LOL.Have a great week and thanks for the info above!
That looks like a good time,GP , I always enjoy cleaning up after a good snowfall, ice underneath makes It a little tricky though, I have loaded turf tires on my b2301 and i almost never have any trouble getting up the hill on our road keeping the blower a little off the ground like you were doing is usually the key to keeping traction we've been dealing with those same conditions in northern Michigan , these little tractors weren't meant to run chains. More weight and a little sand and you'll be just fine
Hey good evening Fred. Thanks for the info above. Appreciate the feedback and info on yours. I agree with your thoughts on it. I have been able to get up that steep hill every time last year and this year, except for a very few rare occasions - like this one. However, I think I may have to further consider getting a set to keep in the shed for days such as this one. The other option was that I probably could have used the box blade and scratched up the ice a bit to get traction. I was lucky Guy was around to help me up that day so all good. Thanks again and hope all is well in Michigan! All the best Fred!
Great Job as always Gord....could be worse Guy could have been driving a John Deer :) We had the exact same thing on this end, makes it tricky but still beats work!
LOL. Thanks AK! I am pretty sure he'll be ribbing over this for a while. One of my cameras finally bit the dust so lost a little footage or you would have got to see him hauling me over the peak. Cheers and thanks !
I read the Great Lakes are going to be at record levels this spring after all our snow melts. Hard to believe it’s another month or so until spring. I hope all your creeks and rivers can handle the melting safely!
Hey good evening Tim. Never thought of that but it makes sense. We should be ok up here. A lot fo the lakes and rivers are tied to the Trent so the Ministry manages the levels but we'll see. All the best!
I have rear chains for my JD 1025. There is a big difference. Hauling wood on the weekend I was sliding and jack knifing until I put the chains on. Worth having. And I let some air out of the turf tires, to get extra grip.
Good evening Laurie. Thanks for sharing. Good to hear from those that use them. I have been told by a few others that it makes a world of difference for traction. I miss being out working in the woods so starting to hope for an early spring. Cheers and thanks again!
Hi GP ! I made my home tire chain yesterday for my B2320. It took me about 2h30. You only need a wheel cuter and a welder. Today i'm gonna made a set for my front tire too. I can send you de mesure off my chain if you want to do it. Cheers and have a good day !
God morning Nicola. Wow. You made the chains on your own. That is pretty great. I don't think I am that skilled to be honest but I may take you up on that, at some point. Thanks and good luck! Cheers!
I must admit GP you have some great videos, you probably can’t tell me from your other viewers but I just purchased the BX 2380 and a rear snowblower plus other implements. Reasons, in my case cost, weight distribution, ability to leave the loader on. I know there are downsides, (aren’t there always). Having to back up is one that everyone points out, however most every other implement you have to use that way, plus my driveway is much shorter than yours. I guess time will tell, I am actually looking forward to winter this year, weird eh!. Yup typical Canadian Eh! However keep up the good work and videos, heck I might even try my own channel once I get going. I just don’t want to be the same old same old. Like you I want to give a different view point. I really enjoy u-tube just for that reason, especially today, physical distancing at a new level but feel as if you get to know others. There will be some comeroderity, hell I sure screwed that word up Ha Ha , Spell check was screaming at me but it didn’t come up with an alternative. See you again, at a distance of course! Dean
Hi Gord I installed carbide tipped studs in my L48 tires when I was blowing multiple driveways....they worked great and cheaper than chains. Actually leave them I all summer when I use it for dirt work and haven't had any rip out....just make sure to stay of the nice paved driveways lol Thanks
Good morning GP, where there's a will there's a way. Like the song say's " I'll get by with a little help from my friends " , you pass the help along too so it all works out in the end. You would't be abusing the tractor with the chains to help you make it up the hill. It isn't like you would be hooking onto the world and trying to pull it. They would help immensely with the plowing and not be hard on the tractor. Might even help chio up the ice some by driving on the hill a lot.. Sure enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
Hey good day ODD. Some salient points there, my friend. I think i might cave in for next season. So funny when Guy pulled up. Unfortunately my old camera finally had the biscuit. So lost some footage there. Thanks again and have a great week! Cheers!
Boy GP....without some sand you are kinda s.o.l......lol.....but that was a nice dump of snow you got......we all are looking forward to spring......have a great week my friend....... :)
Hey Gord I'm in Hampton by Bowmanville I took my Quad chains from when I use to plow with it... Took 2 chains and made them into one...cut to fit in length...put the chain on the back right tire. They work great! Going to buy 2 more and put them on the other back tire. Took 15 min to fit them. Cheers!
Was going to cut each one smaller and put them on the front. But there was interference with the tie rod. So I went with the back wheel. No interference there. Check on prices for tractor chains. I got my Quad chains from Royal Distributing.
Don't you just hate, "I told you so" ? I am glad all that was hurt was your pride . Bet you'll have changes and or studs very soon. Thanks for sharing.
Good evening Rick. LOL. Yup, hard to swallow a little pride but I think I may have to concede come next season. Thanks for watching as always. Have a great week!
Great demo of the Kubota snow blower. I just got a Kubota BX2370 with the loader and a 50" blower. Getting ready for the flakes to fly here in upstate NY (NE of Syracuse). But what really got my attention is the spreader on the rear. Salt spreader? And is it controlled by the read PTO? My driveway is like a ski slope down to the house so I'm a maniac with keeping it clear down to the black top. Cheers, Bob
Good morning GP! Defeat?? What defeat? Looks to me like you achieved victory with Guy’s help. That’s what friends are for! And yes, I’d get those chains if I were you. Just don’t tell your Kubota dealer about it! 😄 Cheers!
LOL. Well I like the way you look at it DIY! Yup, Guy saved the day. Leaning more to maybe getting some for next season but still thinking on it. I am pretty sure if I dug that box blade out , I could have got up after using the scarifiers on that ice. LOL. Cheers and have a great week!
Great video fine sir. You may consider regrading the driveway during the warm months. It could be shaped at a constant 3 or 4 percent grade, instead of a hump at the top.
Good day Superman! Yes, a few folks have also suggested that this may be a good spend to do that. Will think on it further. Thanks for watching and for the idea/comment. Cheers!
Another interesting video. Thank you. Dealing with ice can be tricky... I would be interested in knowing if the tines on your box blade could help rough up the ice. Could be a short video. Michael from Alberta.
Good morning michael. So funny you mentioned as I thought of that. Yes, I believe the box blade would have got me up the steep hill but unfortunately poor planning on my part - when I tidied up the shed before winter I put the box blade way in the back so very difficult to dig out. Thanks though. Cheers!
Always keep sand and some Prestone HEAT mixed with it to fix that problem on the hill. Prestone HEAT melts ice down to -25 below zero.Yes,it's expensive, but works way better then salt.
Good morning 4 Gauge! Thanks for the advice! I have a garbage can full of sand at the top but it has salt in it. Preston Heat. I don't think I had heard of it before - thanks for the great suggestion!
Great vid , no defeat GP , an operational adjustment is what i would call this .Watch out for the c word( chains). On rear , 2 wheel drive or on all 4. You heard of all meat and no potatoes, well, these new tractors are all potatoes and not much meat. They have to work much harder to achieve what the older tractors did with ease. Want defeat? I have a clutch to change today on guess what? Yup! Starts with a T. lol
LOL Mr. Fixit. Hope the clutch job goes well. And thanks, I like your thinking and will be mindful if I decide to take the plunge. I am pretty sure I could have used the box blade and scarifiers on that ice but unfortunately I packed it way in the back of the shed so would be difficult to get it out. Thanks again and good luck today!
@GP Outdoors, was that the 55" commercial series blower? I looks much bigger! I just ordered a B2601 tlb and the 55" blower. This video shows how much more pto power the B2601 has over the JD 2025R. The blower on the JD looks like it barely throws any snow!
Morning Gidzey! It worked great - threw it with ease, even when we had the wet slushy stuff , it still threw it out. I believe it was a residential 60". The B2782B - not sure they still sell it as I think the new K-connect system is now standard and has similar blowers but different model numbers I believe. The new K-connect and subframe are much better than this older model sub-frame. (I have it on my LX2610). Good luck and all the best!
Hey GP. Defeat? What defeat? You achived what we in my country call ”mål-uppfyllelse” - goal completion. You achived your goal, with a little help from a friend, but so what! Goal completion - driveway snowblowed. Thanks for your vids and cheers from 🇸🇪
Always thought about putting a front snowblower on my Garden Tractor? Cost more than the tractor. Not sure if it would work on an uphill grade. We get about 125 inches of snow each winter.
Ok so I’m watching some of your old videos since I have a B2601….. Since you’ve run the B2601/B2782b and the LX2610/LX2822 (I think)…. Other than price and the cab, which set up do you prefer and why?
Ahh, you have those lugs (r4) tires. Turf tires have many more square edges, kinda like a siped tire. My salesman @ kubota recommended them to me and they're working fine...
Hey good day Kris. Good to hear that. I wasn't;t sure what would be best but I know another person who has the turf tires and say the same thing. Cheers and all the best!
Ag treat beats both for traction in mud because their design allows them to clean more easily. But the industrial tread is far superior for longevity and especially in rocky terrain, because there is greater percentage of 'tread thickness' rubber greatly minimizing the potential for a rupture, especially with a weighted or fluid filled tire. Its been my experience to note that all tires lose traction immediately with a spin in deep snow with the friction of the spin creating instant ice.
Good morning Iceroad. Great idea. Guy often uses it on his driveway. Not sure if you know the answer but do you think I could put the ashes in my broadcast spreader to spread it on the driveway? Or would it plug it maybe? Thanks !
I'm gonna chime in with everyone else. You live in CANADA man! If anyone can justify a set of chains for his tractor it's someone who lives where ice roads are the norm! LOL!
LOL. Yup, I cannot argue anymore. Looks like I may be looking to get set up for next season. Man, it was driving me nuts to get up so close to the top but just not able to get that last 10 feet. LOL. Thanks and have a good week Dave!
Tire chains are nice, but when they delivered my tractor last Spring it came with tire chains already installed. I suppose it won't VOID my Warranty. I took them off right away though as they were rubbing on the inside of my right fender. Luckily it didn't do any damage. Only thing is John Deere has plastic fenders. Being a new tractor i didn't want this so i removed them. Probably they make Wheel Spacers to prevent this rubbing. Not sure about that. But definitely i will not use these until i find out. Thanks GP.
Good day Dean. Yes, I think If I decide to get some, I will also need wheel spacers. However, I think if I had not packed away that box blade, i bet a drag of those scarifiers would have done the job nicely for me to get up the hill. Bad planning on my part. Cheers and all the best!
Hi GP, Really enjoy your videos. Tons of great information. Just ordered a B2601 with a BX 5455hd Snowblower. Should arrive in about 10 days. Excited to see how it works for moving the snow on our property here in Idaho. Quick question...how often do you use your rear blade? I am going to try using just the front mount snowblower first w/o the rear blade attachment but have thought that the rear blade might actually be really nice to get into tight areas next to buildings, etc., Then I could pull the snow away from buildings, & then use the snow blower to remove the snow piled up by the blade. Thanks again for the great videos. Keep up the great work! Take Care!!
Good morning Arch and congratulations! You must be pretty excited. I use the rear blade several times in the winter. Usually once in a while to scrape the driveway down to base but only after I know the ground is frozen ( not sure if you have a gravel driveway but if paved, then not to worry). The blower will always leave some snow each time and remember, the skid shoes will ride on top of a hard surface so if you get ice or hard snow build up, the blower will ride over top of it more than it will blow it, so the blade will dig it up so you can blow it away. If you wish, you can watch videos 117, 119, 124 or 127 to see what I mean. At first I didn't know if it was really an implement I needed, but I have used it in the summer to start shaping or contouring the shoulders of the driveway for rain run off, and I think as I get better at using it I can start using it to grade the driveway as well ( in addition to the box blade which is much better for grading). I am sure your dealer has helped you with this but if you get cold temps there, you need to get a block heater installed for sure ( I always plug it in for a good 2 hours before I fire it up in the winter), fill the back tires with fluid and not sure if you have purchased a rear implement but you will always need to have weight on the back of the tractor. Either a ballast box or some heavy rear implement. Also, if you decide to buy a rear blade then I would offer that you get one that is easily able to swing out sideways. The basic model I bought is well built but I have to unbolt the mold board and move it over manually and if I had to do it again, I would definitely get a model that allows it to swing sideways easily ( they usually have a simple pin you pull). Lastly don't forget that when you put that blade on the back, it swings out sideways when you turn while driving ( it doesn't follow you like a car and trailer does). So any time you turn, if you are not careful, you will swing the rear implement into whatever object is beside you ( car, side of house etc). LOL. So sorry for writing a novel, I got a little carried away there. Hope some of it is helpful. Good luck and let me know how it goes! Cheers!
Great info GP! Thanks. Yes, we ordered a block heater installed for our cold winters on the new B2601. We do have a gravel driveway & get a lot of snow/ice build up packed down with our current snow blower so thanks for your info on using the blade for those areas. Will watch your videos 117, 119, 124 & 127 & see if maybe I should wait on the blade or get one ordered with the new tractor. Thanks again! Have a great day!!
Hey Arch, I live in Wisconsin and have a B2601 too! I've been using my bucket fitted with edge tamers and a rear blade to move most of my snow and have had little to not issues with traction. I have a 1/4 mile long gravel driveway with a 6% grade to the house. Of course when we get large amounts of snow I do have a snow plow guy that clears the main drive because it would take me forever with my small tractor bucket/rear blade. But for snow falls under 7 inches I just use my tractor. I was concerned this year with all the ice build up under the snow causing traction issues on my hills but it really hasn't been a problem. I do not use chains.
Thanks Jeff, That is good information too. I am going to try it without chains first and see how that goes. Do you run fluid in your tires? Sounds like some guys use windshield wiper fluid? The dealer told me that if I end up needing chains to put them on the front tires first & see how that helps with traction. I am looking at the Land Pride RB1660 rear blade (Not sure if it has the quick release that GC is referencing but it looks like a nice scraper blade setup.). We have some areas that are fairly tight on our property & I am trying to keep all my implements at no more than 60" wide & the loader is also 60" wide so when I have the tractor moving straight ahead I can get through tight spaces & between trees when needed...realizing with the front blower & rear blade set-up that both will arc around the tractor making its effective width much wider when turning. Thanks!
Hey GP I use rear chains only on my BX and I have turf tires I to have a steep hill on my driveway witch I have to issues with. It's funny cuz the dealer that sold me my tractor tried to talk me out of the chains lol he told me I don't need them I had 4wd lol. He was from the London area not Muskoka hahaha.
Thanks Frank. I haven't looked into it before, so did not have any idea what it would cost approx. Thanks for passing this on for me. Cheers and all the best!
Gord I live in the laurentians region of Quebec north of Montreal my drive is at a 20% grade up hill my BX has no trouble with chains on all 4 wheels snow blow my up hill a couple of weeks ago it was so slippery you could not walk on the driveway the BX had no trouble they are not too expensive about $400-$500 well worth it
Hey good evening Mark. Thanks for sharing this info. A few folks have suggested I will be ok using them too and that the traction is a huge improvement. Sounds like you are experiencing the same. Good to hear from others who use them. Thanks again and have a great week! Cheers!
I original had bought only rear tire chains but soon after went back to the dealership and bought the front ones as you in Ontario and Quebec we had a lot of freezing rain this winter particularly in January I was skeptical at first because the chains on industrial tires so not have much contact area I was actually thinking of getting garden tractor tires but they really do work well don't hesitate. The hardest part will be to get them on you will need to deflate your tires to get them on tight and I suggest you go to princess auto and buy a binder that will help too. On the BX rear wheel spacers are pretty much a must otherwise the chains graze the frame you may want to check into that for your B series first my dealer in Ottawa was very helpful with this take care and great job I really enjoy your videos
I have learned by watching your videos is that you are very creative on stuff and never to doubt you. I do think chains is a good idea for next year I would also use the weight in the back for extra traction also. I do have a question though do you always get a large amount of snow there? I thought we get a lot of snow in Ohio you get more there. I don't like cold weather which is why I moved to a warmer state
Hey good evening James and thanks for the kind thoughts. I appreciate it very much. I think you are probably right, so will spend some time over the summer researching options for chains and then decide. Other than the last 2 years , yes, we always get several feet of snow up here. Usually by this time, you would see 4 - 5 feet of snow outside of the cabin. For some reason, the last two years have been more rain and freezing rain, than it has been snow. We are finally getting some good heavy snowfalls over the last 2 weeks. I am more of a summer person too but enjoy the winter too. Thanks for saying hi and for watching. Have a great weekend James!
Hey good evening Andrew. My older camera finally bit the dust that day. It had been failing for a little while but finally died that day so lost a bit of footage. Guess I will need to start looking for the replacement. I don't think they like the severe cold too much. LOL. Cheers!
One more thing...if you haven’t tried a plastic shovel with a curved handle you might really like. No more straight handled shovels for me. Not new ones anyway.
Good evening Walter and thanks for the questions. On the shovel, yes got one at home and I am with you on that - any new shovels for sure. I've had that old red one forever. Clothing. I dress based on the temperature and on the windchill. Worked outside for some time in my work career so learned early on how important it is to be dressed so as not to be too hot or too cold working outdoors. So that day I had a set of thermal underwear - top and bottom, winter socks, heavy flannel shirt and my lumberjacket. I also had a coat with me on the tractor too just in case. My thermals are not wool - they are made of some type of Thinsulate material - best set I have ever owned. I always bring extra clothes so I can remove or put on as needed, to stay acclimatized but not too hot as you don't want to perspire out in the cold. Anyways, that's just the way I have learned works best for me. Hope that helps a bit. Thanks again and have a good week!
Good morning Russell. Thanks - I have the rear tires filled so not sure I should but thanks for the idea. I appreciate the help. Cheers and enjoy the weekend!
So GP, since you're thinking about tractor chains , have you given thought to any particular type? Myself, I swiped a set off my old pick up.They fit ok on the front of my RK37 that has R-4 tires, but I should have more crosslinks on them. They give me "piece of mind" so to speak when I plow snow. My road isn't as long, but as you, I do have a steep hill. As for the rear, I looked on line, they're very "Pricey ", and Im not sure if I want to make that purchase ,I would like to have a set of chains more for working in the woods. In your case , Im certain you are able to justify the cost for the constant snow fall yinz get. Down here in SW Pennsylvania, haven't had big snows lately, but winter aint over yet!
Good day John. Thanks for the info above. I haven't fully decided although this last week has certainly kind of swayed me more. If I did decide, I will research over the summer in time to have them for next winter. This one is just about over and this is the only time I couldn't make it over the steep hill. Hey how are you enjoying the RK? They look like them come with a good value and lots of practical functionality. Cheers!
@@GPOutdoors Thanks for the reply. As i mentioned I swiped the chains off my old 4wd truck cause I used it for plowing in the winter.I always wanted a tractor, for other jobs on the 5+ acres but couldnt really justify the cost. But last summer made my decision since one of many dead fall ash trees took the 77 Chevy pickup out of commission! Only left the 7 foot plow unscathed! So by surfing YT ,fell apon Outdoors with the Morgan's videos ! Mike lives aprox 35miles north of me and with his use, comments, skills & honesty on RK tractors I purchased the RK37 - grapple- box blade and backhoe, all of which I can use to maintain my place. I fabricated the old snowplow with a quick attach to plow with & it works great, but I miss the warmth of a cab & heater! It's a trade off for the other work i can do. I haven't been able to really get any work done due to all the rain/ muddy mess. Watching more trees drop, ditches over flow and road turn to mud, I will definetly be busy this summer, Lord willing and the creeks dont rise!Sorry for the lengthy comment, I just got cabin fever!
LOL. Hey no worries , I enjoy the comments so no need to be worried about how long. I am sure as you get to use it, you will really be glad you have it. There's always so much you can do at the cabin once you get one. Keep me posted from time to time on the things you are doing and the good life outdoors down there. LOL. Cheers and thanks again John!
@@GPOutdoors Lol ! You mentioned " cabin" , the place I'm speaking of is my residence. Funny thing is we DO own a cabin in the woods in central Pennsylvania. Bought 6acres 20 years ago built a "weekend getaway" cabin for me and my wife, jacuzzi tub an all.(WHAT WAS I THINKING! TWO PROPERTIES ) We havent been there since December when we closed it up for the winter. Prolly wont even get a chance to even go fishing this year, but we are blessed just need to stay healthy.
Good morning CForks. I usually travel around 4-5 kms per hour. I had to get a blower because the driveway can't be plowed through the whole winter, otherwise i would have purchased a hydraulic plow blade for the front. I like the blower a lot but it is more expensive than the blade. Hope that helps. Cheers!
you said 'I know what you guys are thinking.." I'm thinking that these videos will one day show that there was actually snow on land. based on the overwhelming scientific conscious, it is clear to that we will not have any snow on land very-very-very soon, and I think 2021 is the date they said people born after that will only know snow by photos.
Hey good evening Dave! Well, all I can say is there is no doubt in my mind that over the last 55 years, the weather pattern has changed dramatically. That I am sure of. All the best!
LOL. Good evening Richard. Yup, my wife says I look life Frosty The Snowman sometimes when I come back. A cab kit one day will certainly be a welcome addition. Perhaps one that is easily removable like those Curtis cabs. Cheers and thanks for watching!
GP great video. Approx where are u in central On.? Your place looks alot like where I'm from(georgian bay) Midland/Penetang area. Great video. I had the dealer load all 4 tires with beet juice(much cheaper than rim guard) on my LS Xj2025. It added 400-500 lbs and does a great job of planting you to the ground. Keep up the great vids!
Good day Kevin. Just up in the Kawarthas around Haliburton. Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the info above. I have beet juice in the rear tires only so it definitely helps a lot for weight. But that slope got me this time as the temp was warm and so the snow became slippery on top of the sheet of ice. LOl. Man, got so close to the top. :)) Cheers and all the best!
@@GPOutdoors I'll send you my address. Working for coffee, my Father-In-Law would love you. My first shoveling gig I didn't negotiate my fee ahead of time. 90 minutes later, I was given a dozen chocolate chip cookies, and a lesson.
Good day gatorshd. Needed a blower because the driveway is about 1 mile long and cut tight through the forest. There is nowhere to plow the snow. I had contractors previously who plowed, but by the time you get to about January, the banks are so high and the driveway becomes too narrow as there is nowhere to push the snow. Had to be a blower. Hope that helps explain it. Thanks for watching and all the best!
You must be charging your batteries from your generator, sounds like you have had too much snow on the roof to be making much for solar. I use the 72” plow on my loader instead of the blower. If I don’t put weight on the back, it is hard to get traction, if I do put the brick on it is near impossible to steer. I have the same quandary about chains, they are unbelievably expensive, and trying to source the from anywhere but China is difficult. I looked into screw in studs as I also do not have a paved driveway, but those are also quite pricey. I think I am going to punt this decision untill next fall as we are past the halfway point of winter.
Good morning TGC! Yes, you are correct, the genny charges the batteries when I don't generate enough. I agree with you - lots of $$ for chains and I think best to think more and decide for next season. I think I could have used the box blade to scrape up the ice on that hill and could have made it over. Bad planning on my part as I packed away that BB way in the back of the shed so hard to get at. Thanks and have a great week!
Another thing I have seen is hex-head screws driven into the tires, they are cheap and quick to add or replace. I would think the primary concern is the screw being lost out of a tractor tire and found by one of my other vehicles tires.
LOL Kenneth! That was mine coming in down the hill. But I could have used a tow going up. LOL. Then I would not have had to call Guy - he got a lot of good jokes out of this one. Cheers and all the best!
thanks for your good ideas
You are most welcome Claude! Cheers!
The best traction material on ice is wood stove ash, beats sand any day. This video is old but the content is timely and good.
Two big thumbs up for enjoying the open air tractor in the snow with your baseball hat on! - Cabs are for the city - lol.
LOL!
Needless to say I am on the evil side of the chain... 2WD small Bolens tractor and yet can push snow uphill with a 54'' blade. Just saying... Lol!
Always MY pleasure to watch your trials and occasional tribulation GP. Sure is fun living in the country. Again, a great neighbor like Guy is a blessing for sure. See you later sir, and thank you for the video.
Thanks Gord. Always look forward to your videos.
Cheers,
Bill on the Hill...
Cheers!
Thanks for the video Gord. We made it up to Minden this past weekend.....no shortage of snow that's for sure. Have a good one!
Hey good evening Rob. Great to hear from you! Hope all is going great. Finally got some snow. Be well and all the best!
Hey that's great to hear Tom. Very happy things are working out well. Be safe out there and all the best!
Gordy
Watching your videos gets me thru the winter!
By the way, could use a blower as we just passed a record for February snowfall in Minnesota. No place to put the snow, I just use my loader.
Cheers
If I had that setup I would be knocking on all my neighbor's door asking if I could clear their driveways ha ha. Good going.
LOL. Thanks B3!
Just wanted to let you know that two little boys in Minnesota really enjoyed this video! Thanks for posting
Good morning, great neighbors make for a great time. I'm sure that Guy didn't mind helping, and bragged a little about his L!
I run chains on all 4 wheels on 2620 with the r 4 tires, within reason it will go through anything. It's an awesome tractor.
Great video GP. Nice job with the sound and editing.
Hey thanks very much Curtis! Cheers!
Good day Grampie! That is funny. Cold as a pork shoulder. I might use that one at home. The kids will howl. Be well and all the best!
Cool Video!!
Thanks David! Happy you enjoyed it. Cheers!
You got more snow coming Im ready for spring have good one god bless
Cheers ! You too Clifford!
Good morning.... You've provided me with a great way to begin my day. I really enjoyed the video. Thank you, from So. Ca. 😊
Cheers Edward!
Hey thanks for the video it inspired me to finish my coffee and do a small video of me doing my driveway in Wisconsin
Nice Dan. Good stuff!
Good Morning GP, for now you might just want to try out a set of chains on the front tires which would help you up that hill and give you some more steering control on that ice... We dont have a driveway that long, and are glade for that...we are dealing with snow today and rain by the afternoon, Good Grief... God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK}
7:01 Very cool angle, not sure why I'm watching someone plow snow but it's strangely interesting.
great video. thanks for the entertainment.
Thanks for watching Kevin. Cheers!
Something you might want to consider on your tractor...turf tires loaded will give you much better traction in snow. I've been running turfs on my 07 B7610 since new and never gotten stuck. But solid ice is tuff with any tire's. Need a little sand in that spreader.
Good day Mark! Thanks for the advice. I had heard that the turf tires were good in snow but will have to wait until I wear these out. Have a good one!
I have turf tires on my newholland and can't get over how well they bite when I'm snow blowing or back bladeing.
I'm liking this type of video! I would definitely get some chains for that tractor, they will help immensely.
Thanks MMB. All the best!
Wow GP, some slippery slopes there but you got it done. I bet you're about over the snow thing, aren't ya? Stay safe and stay warm. 👍
LOL. Just about, Houndsman. Not much winter left now. All the best!
That is a beautiful place up there GP. It has been raining all week and in the 70s (f) here in south Mississippi.
Good evening and thanks for the kind comments. I like it a lot up here. Very peaceful and calming. I am started to miss the 70's. :)) Thanks for watching and for saying hi!
Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. (Proverbs 27:10)
I have chains on the rear of my B2301 with turf tires here in Vermont and they are great. I couldn't get around without them.
Hey thanks Doug. Good to know. Folks say you will get a huge improvement in traction overall - not just for the ice. Thanks for the info. Cheers!
Very true the best investment was getting chains to get around with here in Vermont it's a big help
Great Job as always Gord....could be worse Guy could have been driving a John Deer :) We had the exact same thing on this end, makes it tricky but still beats work!
LOL. True Bota. You bet it does. All the best!
Hey hey Gord it sure is fun watching you do this. And it is a good thing that you have a "GUY' LOL
LOL. Thanks AK! I am pretty sure he'll be ribbing over this for a while. One of my cameras finally bit the dust so lost a little footage or you would have got to see him hauling me over the peak. Cheers and thanks !
G P great video I guess I'm not the only person who has trouble keep up the good work
God Bless
PaK
Good morning Peter! I think we all get a little sometimes. LOL. Thanks and all the best to you!
Cheers!
Hey GP! If next winter is anything like this one some chains would be helpful for sure! Have a good one and make plenty of coffee my friend! lol
I might finally be convinced LA. And hey, there's always an extra cup in there for you my friend. Keep smiling!
One of these days I might get a chance to take you up on that cup!! lol
There will be some comeroderity, hell I sure screwed that word up Ha Ha ,
Spell check was screaming at me but it didn’t come up with an alternative.
See you again, at a distance of course! Dean
Hi Gord
I installed carbide tipped studs in my L48 tires when I was blowing multiple driveways....they worked great and cheaper than chains.
Actually leave them I all summer when I use it for dirt work and haven't had any rip out....just make sure to stay of the nice paved driveways lol
Thanks
Just remembered the brand is called Grip studs
Thanks Colin. I appreciate it. Will think on that. A few others suggested studs. Cheers!
You too Don. I should have held back some sand until I replenished the pile. LOL. But hey, Guy saved the day. Cheers pal!
belle machine , :-)
Take a cue from the guys that race motorcycles on the ice. Special sheet metal type screws into the thick part of the R-4 tire tread.
Good day and hello Ron! Hope you are doing well. LOL. I don't think I can lean far enough on the corners with that tractor. All the best!
Good point! LOL
Hey Gord
I'm in Hampton by Bowmanville
I took my Quad chains from when I use to plow with it...
Took 2 chains and made them into one...cut to fit in length...put the chain on the back right tire.
They work great! Going to buy 2 more and put them on the other back tire. Took 15 min to fit them.
Cheers!
Hey thanks Paul. Sounds pretty easy overall. I appreciate it. Cheers!
Was going to cut each one smaller and put them on the front. But there was interference with the tie rod. So I went with the back wheel. No interference there.
Check on prices for tractor chains.
I got my Quad chains from Royal Distributing.
Hey thanks Paul. I know there is one in Whitby. Appreciate it. Cheers!
@@GPOutdoors Barrie too
Don't you just hate, "I told you so" ?
Great video from 55072
Thanks again Ken! All the best to you!
v-chains are the best, bar none for ice !
Can't wait to try them out! Cheers!
@@GPOutdoors Its available at Walmart, your welcome.
O so you did get the electric switch hydraulic diverter working! I need help setting mine up.
Hey GP. Defeat? What defeat? You achived what we in my country call ”mål-uppfyllelse” - goal completion.
You achived your goal, with a little help from a friend, but so what! Goal completion - driveway snowblowed.
Thanks for your vids and cheers from 🇸🇪
LOL. Thanks very kindly! I like your positive viewpoint. Thanks very much and all the best! Good to have such kind friends. Cheers!
Its been my experience to note that all tires lose traction immediately with a spin in deep snow with the friction of the spin creating instant ice.
use your ashes from wood stoves works as good as sand because it stays on top of ice does not melt down into it
Good morning Iceroad. Great idea. Guy often uses it on his driveway. Not sure if you know the answer but do you think I could put the ashes in my broadcast spreader to spread it on the driveway? Or would it plug it maybe? Thanks !
GP me too would love some chains LOL.
Hey good evening Teddy. I may have to give in. LOL. All the best!
How was the hydraulic piston for the chute up and down controlled on your B? Did you utilize a third function valve?
Morning Brian. I did. Cheers!
Awh man, I just got my coffee and the video ends.
LOL! That was a good one TPG. Cheers and thanks for watching as always. :))
That is a very good trackor but you should have a cab for it.
Boy, La Vern, there are some days I wish I did for sure. LOL. Have a good weekend. Cheers!
Hey! I just sent you some pics on the Facebook page of my setup. Maybe it will help. Ice is so darn frustrating!
Hey thanks! I will try to take a look soon. Cheers !
Probably would've done the trick. As you said the scarifiers probably would've broken the ice. I'll have to try that out sometime. Thanks GP.
Beautiful snow, that ice looks like trouble. will that be a problem for your truck when you have to leave. Stay warm and safe.
Thanks Roy! I made it ! LOL. Cheers!
Nice tractor. What hp is that ? Diesel is more about torque right ?
Thanks!
Thanks Emmet. The ETA-5-VALUE-SB looks like a really well designed & versatile blade.
Hey thanks Frank. Sounds familiar. LOL. Appreciate it. Have a good one!!
I have a B3200 , to put chains on it I will need 2 -4 inch spacers at 350$ and then chains price is some where between 175- 290 $ depending on size.
Why can’t we see the hill and the adventure with Guy helping you out? 😁😁
Hey good evening Andrew. My older camera finally bit the dust that day. It had been failing for a little while but finally died that day so lost a bit of footage. Guess I will need to start looking for the replacement. I don't think they like the severe cold too much. LOL. Cheers!
GP Outdoors ohhhh.... that’s too bad. :(
I guess it did take a lot of abuse.
Better luck next time.
Maybe some hill shaving planned for the summer?
Good day wc. Thinking about it, that's for sure. Cheers good sir!
How many layers of clothes do you wear to stay warm and dry? Is there anything better than wool? The snowblower works great.
Lower your air pressure in your back tire to allow more of your tire surface to get a grip.
TWO PROPERTIES )
We havent been there since December when we closed it up for the winter. Prolly wont even get a chance to even go fishing this year, but we are blessed just need to stay healthy.

What’s your average speed while blowing the snow? Trying to see if it’s an alternative then plowing
Save your wood stove ash. It helps melt the ice.
A great idea David. My neighbour uses it too. Have a great weekend !
You need a cab kit for your Kubota so you don't turn in to a snowman when the wind is blowing the snow back on to you
LOL. Good evening Richard. Yup, my wife says I look life Frosty The Snowman sometimes when I come back. A cab kit one day will certainly be a welcome addition. Perhaps one that is easily removable like those Curtis cabs. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Drop tire pressure to get more stickem.
Procrastinating shoveling snow by watching someone else use a snowblower...
This is why RUclips was invented.
LOL. Hey Stan, If I lived closer, I'd be happy to zip over and get 'er done for you. Of course, it would cost you a coffee. LOL. Cheers!
@@GPOutdoors I'll send you my address.
Working for coffee, my Father-In-Law would love you.
My first shoveling gig I didn't negotiate my fee ahead of time.
90 minutes later, I was given a dozen chocolate chip cookies, and a lesson.
Why a blower and not a plow?
One car went up which was my truck......
LOL Kenneth! That was mine coming in down the hill. But I could have used a tow going up. LOL. Then I would not have had to call Guy - he got a lot of good jokes out of this one. Cheers and all the best!
Chains
LOL. I think so.
please no more cheers
Thanks for the feedback Wylie! Be well.
