Too many people have no idea what kind of responsibility it is to bring home a dog or a cat, let alone a mink. I'm glad you're screening potential owners to ensure your minks will go to good homes. Keep up the good work.

It's enough for me to just watch you and your mink. I don't have the time and environment they need. I would opt for something lower maintenance and less aggressive like a ferret.

I love your channel. I'm not a hunter. I'm not outdoorsy. I just happened to randomly come across your channel, and then became fascinated by, as you say, these wonderful creatures - as well as your relationship to them. I have the sense to know I'm not a good fit to care for these animals. From all the videos I've seen, it seems like a LOT of work, and I don't have the environment for them. Thank you for caring about the mink and other people and for approaching this topic the way you are. Makes perfect sense.

Even a shop owner I once talked to, he owns a pet shop selling reptiles, rabbits, ferrets and minks. He is pretty frank when he told the customers minks are aggressive and super hard to handle, and makes sure people know what they are in for before getting a mink. At least he is being responsible, but at the end of the day, those customers still choose minks because they are "prettier and cooler than ferrets". Smh.

Getting one book isn't enough... The love and care for wild animals isn't learned in a book or two, it's a lifetime of observation, research and genuine affection for the animal kingdom. Asking any potential Mink owners to read at least one book as a prerequisite is giving them a huge break... Folks don't complain if Mr. Carter is asking you to read his book.

I just started to view your videos and I love the fact that you care so much about the mink's well being. I agree that in order to get any animal, people should have to be responsible for the care of the pet they choose. I know my sister took in a hunting dog that was going to be abandoned. The people gave her the dog and told her they were going to get a different dog that day. The dog is the sweetest, most loving dog and is happy and well fed. Did I mention they had stopped feeding the dog because they were going to give it to the pound? Good for you for caring about who you give your animals to!

Joseph I completely 100% support you on this one. I don't care if it sounds mean but the people who can't even bother reading the book can go kiss off (and that's the clean version of how I really feel). I know I don't want to put the effort into handling a mink and I'm perfectly happy with ferrets. I love what you do and I'm content watching you do it and learning from you. But to be honest, as someone who has worked in a corporate petstore chain for the past 9 and a half years, a GOOD number of people with proper domesticated pets shouldn't even have them. If you can't even afford his book, or invest the time and effort reading it, I'm here to be bluntly honest and say you don't deserve a mink. Joseph is 100 percent correct in standing his ground here and way more nice about it. Get over it. I've seen too many animals suffer at the selfishness of people who think their pets have no right to behave like the animals they were designed to be and expect their pets to act like a well behaved toy. They want their pet to hand over lovd and trust automatically without working hard to earn real love and genuine trust from their pet. They'll automatically assume and call their dog stupid if it doesn't follow commands when in reality, they are a stupid human who lacks the ability to teach their dog to do commands. They forget they have an autonomous creature with a mind of its own, which is way smarter than them. Having an animal in your life should be treated as a privilege, and a pleasure. I think everyone has a right to that privilege, but not everyone deserves it. And yes, pets cost money. People need to get over that too. If you can't afford the book, how are you going to afford a proper habitat? Proper equipment for handling, training, and hunting the mink? How about the food? Predator animals have very intense and expensive diets. Joseph is looking out for his animals. If I wanted to get a mink, he would be the first guy I would go to because he takes good care of his animals. I would know I would be getting, a healthy, happy, and well developed critter. I wish more animal breeders would be like him.

Smart man! Cat trainer/ fosterer here! I wish more people vetted potential pet owners like you do!
I know I'm not experienced enough to handle mink and that's ok! I still love these videos and maybe if money and my training ability improve in the future, I'd love to send you a message!
I personally learned training from teaching my cat's first, then my aunt's "violent" cat, then stray cats, then trained my neighbor's dogs and my brother's dogs while dog-sitting.
Dogs are a great place to start but if you can't commit to a lifetime of vets bills, food and enrichment materials (toys), then you're not ready yet to own a pet. I would say you need to be prepared for bites, scratches and messes too, but both cats and dogs can be trained to go potty in a certain area and not to bite/scratch you.
I'd still like to train a fish through a hoop though...

I think you are doing more of a service for people than they really understand when you turn someone down. I think you are doing a great job! And, its great to see that some people still have enough responsibility not to just give people what they want simply because of money. Well done, money is definitely not worth losing ones conscience, and it's definitely not worth letting someone who doesn't need a specific "pet" have one, and both suffer. Thank you for realizing that and caring about the animals and the people!

When it comes to even buying a gold 🐠 fish 🐠 🐟 if SOMEONE cared as much as you about the amazing little creature that isn't able to speak for themselves and tell you how they feel or what they want/ need this entire world would be much much better. I hate to see ppl get puppies or kittens then once over the baby stage no longer have any interest at all. Sad but that has to show something about the care they give to their Children.
How can one want get buy any little innocent animal then disguard it as it's trash? That really boils my blood. My pets come before myself I couldn't not love them enough to put their needs before my own.

Another night sitting up watching Joseph Carter The Mink Man videos. I lose soooooo much sleep, “just one more mink video, THEN I’ll go to sleep!” LOL!
I love watching your videos and the mink training is fascinating to see their advancement as well as the communication between you and your minks and dogs (and now Raptor). Minks are adorable but I don’t all the want the work and responsibility of owning one. I have wild minks that hunt here on my homestead and the interactions WE have is enough (my pens are all predator-proofed to the max BECAUSE I have wild minks here, your videos provide me with knowledge about their hunting habits so I know they are not to be taken for granted). They are fun creatures to watch and occasionally they come closer to check ME out, respond to my voice and even sit on my boot while I do chores, but no matter how friendly they become I’m NOT going to try picking them up! Mine are wild and I prefer them that way. ❤️

I stop by every morning to drink my coffee on the way to work and if I'm lucky it will come out of its den that's an entwined root system along the waters edge. Seen it twice so far this year. I respect and appreciate you so much for being extremely realistic and unselfish, for educating the public about these unique animals, and for the extent you go to being responsible. There was a time I researched sugar gliders extensively... and whilst I adore them, because I understand their nature, I feel sad that the world has moved in on them to profit off of selling them as pets. (This, from someone who would love a pair.) But they bond more deeply than most animals, and they like to carry on in groups of 16 to 24. They get so lonesome they will self-harm. They are so happy when clustered with many, many family members. Most folks can only afford 1-2. They cost $300 to $3000, depending. At any rate. Thank you for setting the bar when it comes to integrity and care while filling a unique niche here. I am enjoying learning about mink watching your videos.

Keep doing what you are doing and maybe a few litters down the line maybe i will be able to be one of the lucky few to join the minkenry family.

I super love how you came across in this video and the way your worded your explanation. It's really amazing of you to care enough for the species that you weed out people who potentially wouldn't be the best owners.

I'm a ferret fan. Been rescuing them for years. Minks are exciting and bold but I'm not interested in owning one since they are so aggressive. I enjoy your hunting vids the most but you are also very informative about them. If you weren't so honest about minks, I'd want one not knowing I couldn't handle it, if that makes any sense. Anyway, thanks for the great videos!

I rescue GSD's and I so respect your stand, I have people ask me several times a day about my pets. They are not ready...and GSD's are dogs. Pretty easy, compared to a mink. Those animals look like a force of nature! New subscriber-love your work.

You are absolutely correct! Mink are high maintenance and require a very dedicated owner willing to spend a lot of time with them daily. Mink and many wild animals are not domesticated and will turn wild in a short amount of time. Pets and regular farm animals are domesticated and don't require a lot of attention like a wild hyperactive Predator to keep them tamed down. Excellent Videos!!!

That's a good message and shows your admiration and respect for the creatures you have a passion for. I'd like one of your books just cause I love reading and like what you do. I by no means expect to own a mink but have an appreciation for the wildlife of this great country of ours, plus I love how you name a lot of your animals Native American names.

All the reasons you brought up are why I cant breed any of my animals intentionally (my goldfish spawned a few months ago but thats another story lol), i just dont have the time or energy to vet everyone who wants one. Thank you so much for really caring about your animals.

I completely understand what your saying and glad your adopting them out like you are. As much as I would love to have one myself I know I am not capable of properly caring for one so I am not allowing myself to get one for the love of the little fighters let some who is capable of caring for them buy them. I can still have fun watching them on here and learn about them before I stumbled onto your channel I never even knew about mink and now after watching some of your videos I love the little scrappers. One of the reasons why I know I can't have one is cuse we have a dog who's pray drive is so strong she atempts to kill tinnise balls she literly rips them apart. She would be an Awsome ratter aside from the banchi scream like bark she has (she barks when she's excited) but I would never trust her around a mink even with training XD

This video is what made me sign up for your Patreon. I've been a subscriber for a while, and I've never subscribed to anyone on Patreon - but I created a Patreon account specifically because I think you're doing wonderful things trying to find good, *permanent* homes for the babies. Raising animals to make money is almost impossible, you either sacrifice quality care in order to make a profit (like puppy mills).. or you go in the hole with almost every litter of whatever animal it is you're raising to provide quality care. I raise fish, and if I was doing it for the money, I'd be in the poorhouse. Thank you for not sacrificing quality in the quest for $. That said, love the channel, proud to be one of your first Patreon patrons, keep up the good work. :)

It’s extremely hard to be an advocate for an exotic animal and not come off as snobby about ownership. But as an exotic pet owner myself it’s definitely a burden you must bear because most people are overly confident they can handle whatever an animal throws at them and then it happens and all of a sudden oh you were right. This is way too much to handle. Good on you for screening ownership and doing what’s best for the good of the species.

It’s hard enough to find good people & people you can trust these days, let alone take advantage of you & others just to make a fast buck.
With every mink videos I’ve seen from your channel, that in itself, you give joy or put a little smile to everyone who sees it.
The time, effort, insight(s), pointers on how to take care & the love for these animals, it’s pretty evident.
What I don’t get, well, I guess I do, that despite all that, & all the goodness, kindness & caring you’ve shown to these animals, there’s still alotta people out there who’s just gonna hate & do bad things to what you worked hard & done for these amazing creatures.
It sickens me & gets me mad to see this happen to good peeps when all they wanna do is do good.
I need to calm down & stop coz if I keep goin’, I might end up making another extension to Harry Potter’s book. Lol!
Yeah exactly! Nobody wants to see that 😂
Keep spreadin’ (that joy) & keep doin’ what you’re doin’ brother.
God bless you, your family & your little furballs 🙏🏼🤙🏼

I really want a mink but I know I can't handle one. I handled other animals like birds and lizards etc. But I realized it's not for me to tame animals. I hope most of your realize that some people just can't or won't take car of animals.
