Having the results read out like this adds occasion to the drama of the afternoon. Sports Report doesn’t do this anymore. The iconic music always reminds me of my grandfather sitting at the table in the kitchen in the late 1950’s. In front of him lay his pools coupon and he would lick his pencil ready for the results. He would pause when Everton’s name was mentioned and would mutter under his breath if they lost. I don’t know whether he ever won any money on the pools but I have great memories every time that music comes on. It’s a shame they don’t have a proper announcer to read out the results these days.
