Super clean and tight! That's a professional doing it right.
Thanks, have to be patient with hand cut joints like this but worth it for the results!
@@kiwiworkshop
nope... its terrible!
I love the relief chiseled in to the back side of the dovetail. Great idea.
Can't claim it as my own, but do agree that it's a great idea. Thanks
@@kiwiworkshop Is that to add some surface area for the adhesive?
@@MasterArkannor that would be doing the opposite and taking away surface area. That relief prevents any material from pushing the joint out beyond flush. Basically just means the tail will sit flat 1st try.

,,,,,,??
?,?

Nothing like a good, sharp tool. I can literally shave with mine, and I retired 15 years ago!
I totally agree!
можно вечно смотреть на эти замки 👍👏👏👏
The wood surgeon returns! I love your work. Perfection
"The Wood surgeon" - I love it! That would have been a great name for my channel. Just checked and someone else has it.
Neat presentation, I'll give you that.
One of the best I have 👀 yet
Pure artisan woodworkery….
Nice, sharp chisels bud!
👍
The only way to possess them
I do this with just my miter saw, I always plan to do more by hand but time always get me.
I'm the same, I like to use hand tools but time pressure often results in using power tools. Thanks.
Saya suka cara sambung kayu ini❤❤❤
First time viewer, didn’t even make it halfway through before I subscribed. Looking forward to more bomb ass shit like this.
Awesome, pleased to hear it
I like your work❤️
Skills for work with a good guy
Beautiful work! I guess you need a lot of practice to achieve this.
Thanks! It's only really been the last couple of years I've been into hand tool woodworking, but had plenty of practice in that time.
Done this my first year off college😅 This is basic (entry level) for Joinery.
Half laps are quite simple
For any beginners watching this, there are many simpler joints to start with. Here is a list of common joints ordered from easy to hard: Butt, Mitre, Pocket, Dowel, Dado (groove), Rabbet, Tongue and groove, Mortise and tenon, Lap, Bridle, Wedged mortise and tenon (through tenon), Dovetail lap (the one in this video), Dovetail. Beyond that, you can venture into Japanese joinery with some very tricky joints!
@@kiwiworkshop True mate your work is brilliant and I enjoy watching them all 👊🏻
Very nice 👌🏼
НОРМАЛЕК !!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇧🇾🇧🇾🇧🇾
👍
Wow impressive. I will subscribe just to learn hand tools abilities. Thank you
Thank you. I make a mix of hand tool and power tool videos. More hand tool videos will certainly come.
What kind of wood is the first one? Thanks for sharing.
Excelent Work
Thank you
Just bought me a marking gauge bro.. It has the micro adjuster on it too. I love this tool but it also has this otehr attachment which I haven't gotta name for.. The marking Gauge is sweet though and I'm looking forward tomarking my work now.. I still need to get one of those knives u have there. Are u using Narex chisels? I bought a cheap set to start with. They're those Magnusson chisel set. They're ok but I think they may last a little while until I get a better set.. Great work there mate..
Awesome. Yes, the micro adjuster is nice to have. My chisels are Stanley, they get the job done but I hope to upgrade to higher quality chisels this year. The next tool I'm going to buy is a router plane. There have been a few occasions over the past year where I've needed one and had to find another way to get the job done.
When I was learning carpentry, we were taught that a saw cut must be exact, NO chiseling!
If the saw cut marks were missing so would marks for your work be missing!
Chiseling takes extra time, and time is money, do not waste money!

What finish, boiled linseed oil?
Actually Tung oil with citrus thinner, but yes, does look a bit like boiled linseed oil

Such nice woodcraft…..
Thank you! Glad you like it

Which oil do you use ? It looks amazing
It's Tung oil with citrus thinner. Thanks
@@kiwiworkshop thanks will look to buy it, can we used it to rejuvenate/reshine older wood tables etc?
Hi which oil is it . Look very clear
It's Tung oil with citrus thinner

🔥🔥🔥👍💣
I think that the word "amazing" is a bit much but a very nice job. I appreciate the use of hand tools instead of very expensive equipment.
What tools are you using to make your perfect lines?
Hi, the two main tools are marking knife and circle marking gauge.
The others: machinists square (guessing), sliding T-bevel (gauge), mechanical pencil, SHARP AF chisel, dozuki saw (i believe)

I cant get over the fact that he just doesnt draw a simple X over something that needs to be cut/removed
If I'm not making a video that's exactly what I do, or not mark it at all. The shading is purely for the benefit of the video, to make it obvious which area is to be removed. I've seen other woodworking RUclipsrs do the same. An X or fine pencil lines often don't show up that well on video.
What type of wood do you use?
White pine and Silver beech thermally modified (steam treated) to create the dark colour
Why didn't you sand finish?
What is the darker wood called?
It's thermally modified beech (stream treated) to bring out the dark colour
No advanced machines no technology... just the hand 👋✊️👏
Nothing beats handcrafted woodwork 🙂
Much easier using a radial arm saw .....
Yes correct, it would be easier using a radial arm saw
What's the tool called to mark the lines
Wheel marking gauge
How long does this take in real time?
Ignoring the glue drying time, probably about 30-40 minutes if I'm being careful
Don’t cheap out on your precision squares, everyone. It’s worth it to splurge and get the Starrett or Matsui.
I prefer machinist squares. Incredibly accurate and cheaper than woodworking brands.
Name of the round gold scoring tool called?
It's called a marking gauge. The one I used in this video is made by Veritas.
how do you cut so straight by hand.
I find it works well to mark a line on two faces and keep watching the saw blade against each line
What's the name of that tool used for lining?
It's a wheel marking gauge
@@kiwiworkshop thank you for your response.
How many times have you chiseled out the wrong area? Just wondering why you find a need to mark the area being chiseled.
In this case, it was mainly for the benefit of the video, since the marking knife lines can be hard to see. Otherwise it's on a case-by-case basis for each project. Sometimes if you have matching profiles, you would mark out the ones to remove to avoid the potential for error.
Is that linseed oil
Tung oil
Pencil is going to need sharpening often

А о чём ролик то ???
It says in the title

Time and practice
If you're confident in your cuts, you don't need glue.
Often I don't use glue. All depends on the application and how forces will be applied to the joint.
I think cutting these many trees for these many videos is not good to cut trees like this plz be careful we have one planet
Remember that trees are a renewable resource. I choose timber from suppliers that replant the trees. Also use reclaimed timber quite often.
you know they make electric tools rights
I also make videos with electric tools. On those videos, I get comments like "it's not proper carpentry unless you use hand tools" and "you are cheating by using electric tools". So I like to make videos showing how to make joints with both hand tools and machines.
Из какого дерева сделаны эти доски🤨🤨
New Zealand Kahikatea (white pine) and thermally modified Beech (dark wood).
