Thanks for commenting. I bet it was quite the scare. Yeah I’ve always found the way Metrolink rapidly expanded so interesting so I had to make a video on it. Thanks for watching!

@everything.trains i was in middle school at the time ( old term jr high) about 50 mi from the epicenter . my mum was a teacher and their districts would bring their kids ot our schools to get away from the aftershocks which were a plenty .

Great information, I hope that in the future Metrolink will put in the work to implement 30 minutes headways to the antelope valley line

I have lived in Santa Clarita my whole life and remember my mom and I having to use the Metrolink for over a year after this earthquake to go to work in Burbank.

Another example of car-brain infecting our ability to improve the systems that get the least attention! Imagine if we swapped the efforts & resources put into very expensive quick fixes for highways into transit while allowing the full process of highway engineering & construction to proceed as if the earthquake didn’t happen. The car network has redundancy everywhere, so the pain was big only because of the number of vehicles, not because of options, unlike transit.

These lines have so much potential that is wasted. A key issue is the speed. All these videos show the problem as the trains are way, way too slow…Need to electrify and speed up the lines.

      Making a video on that!

I agree with the potential is wasted, but I disagree with needing to electrify them to make up for speed. It's more track issues, rules and curves. I've ridden the San Joaquin and let me tell you what that engineer gets that diesel moving and quite quickly up to its 79 mph limit.

Everyone busts their nut on speed and electrification. As if that isn't a MASSIVE undertaking. Coverage and accessibility are equally vital.
