When they picked a place the retired guide put a nail in the tree and said whoever gets to it first start shooting he hung his 45 on it! Wow no jokes, regarding bear. We left it cleaner than when we got there. I can close my eyes and remember how beautiful that whole trip was. It was a true dream come true. Thank you 💗💗 ALASKA

    Suzette , my parents and I toured Hatcher pass in July 1990 with my Mother’s relatives at her family reunion (59 attended). It had just become a state park and only one building was open to the public. Ben and Marlene Cottle, Mid (Cottle) Minnick, Paul and Dora Ritchey, Bill Stannard and family, and many others. There was still enough snow for a serious Snow ball battle in July. That was 30 years ago.
    Considerable restoration and artifacts in the buildings in this video show what was once a working mine. The shack on the mountain top was I believe one of the entrances to the mine. The movie theater really caught my attention as my parents owned a movie theater in Martinsburg, Pa Bach in 1950’s. The distant village was open back in 1990 and we enjoyed some homemade pie, I recall.
    I would love to return and see all the restoration ( with all of my cousins who were early pioneers in Wasilla).
    No one reported any signs of ghosts during our visit in 1990!!!!

  • @Collelo
    @Collelo 2 года назад +2

    I grew up in this area. At the bottom of the mountain by turners corner. I remember when I was young (20 years ago or more) my family and I would visit here and it was a bustling tourist trap. That white building that collapsed used to be a gift shop. Crazy how it’s changed! Snowboarding is great there too by the way lol

    Lol it's cool. I currently live about 20 miles from Hatcher's pass which is where this is. And as a kid we would go up there and sled/ski/snowboard down the mountain. The only people I have ever heard talk about ghosts being there aren't locals lol. Makes me wonder if that's how these things go. And no the fire weed doesn't turn red in the fall. They are used to tell how soon winter will arrive. They bloom slowly from the bottom up. And they finish in the fall as winter begins. So they are a sort of living indicator of how close winter is.

This is one of my favorite spots to “get away”🤗 Also, I wondered why you fid not go in the main building...the manager’s house. I only had one strange experience when I worked there. I had to go to the basement of the main house one day... It was very creepy down there and I made my trips quick👍 The “village” is Hatcher Pass Lodge. You can rent the cabins, there is one that is a sauna. The main lodge has wonderful fondue and the best pies😋

    Alaskan here🎉 I love this place I have nothing but fond memories of the mine. Growing up we would visit the mine often and even go into the mine shaft. I will say this, the last time I went into the mine shaft I did hear 2 things that made me feel uneasy. 1.) I heard faint whispers couldn’t make out what they were saying. And 2.) this deep groaning sound deeper then a person. So idk it might be haunted

    I worked at a canary in a place called Larson bay in Kodiak it was in the middle of nowhere it took a 45 minute bush plain rude to get there the buildings where from the late 1800s but there was a building called china town back in the 1900s it was nothing but chines people who worked there but they got stuck there during the winter and ran out of food and people started hanging themselfs and the chef ended up poising over 50 people because they where running out of food but the building called china town was super haunted people would get held down by spirits and come out with scratches on there body the locals there which is only like 25 people have super crazy story’s about that place google Larson bay there are some story’s online about it but this place looks just like Larson bay

If you can get on a 4 wheeler there are loads of hidden old miners cabins scattered through out the pass. so I have heard anyway.

    I visited this area back in 1975 when I was stationed in Anchorage in the Air Force. Back then the mine adits were still open and you could explore them if you didn't mind wading in the icy water flowing out. That was before the mine became a state historical park around 1980. Went there again in 2017 and it's completely different now. I certainly didn't notice anything spooky about the place. It was interesting visiting the buildings that were open and looking at historic artifacts. Some buildings are nothing but rubble, since they long ago collapsed under the weight of heavy snowfall. One thing I thought was odd was the fake windowpanes painted on plywood covering the window openings in some of the buildings. Guess they didn't want to pay to put actual windows back in those buildings. Very scenic place to visit, however and only a little over an hour's drive from downtown Anchorage.
