    The actual battle was very deadly for communist partisans (more than 10,000 deaths) but also for Serbian chetniks who were basically destroyed as an effective military force. Partisan movement survived by heroics and regained strength afterwards. Despite this movie being somewhat of a propaganda item the real battle was truly an amazing feat by Yugoslav partisan movement and made them into a formidable force for the remainder of the war.

      It's sad that serbs killed other serbs because of political ideology.... How many brothers needed to kill each other just because the brother was on cetniks and the other in partisans both probably not even caring about either political goal of the movement.

    To all people complaining about not-german tanks being used in the movies, remember in these times movies were filmed with real tanks (without much special effects) also Yugoslav army usually played roles of Germans in these ww2 movies, so tanks were mostly from Yugoslav army stock, they didn't had germans tanks, but mostly Russian and American ones, also as matter of fact germans did used captured tanks from Russia and USA in occupied parts of Europe such as Yugoslavia so it's not inacurate to see those tanks on germans side in the movies

It is important to all viewers because it opens the door to the political and military aspects of WW2 in this part of Europe that few people know about and understand. Last but certainly not least for me is the portrayal of the strength and integrity of the various ethnic people who have historically called this region their home.

    I saw a movie about Partisans at a theatre in Malaysia in the 70s. I remember the machine guns mounted to shoot at planes (34:54) but could not remember what the movie was called (it may have been called "Partisans" for marketing purposes). I now believed that this is actually that same movie I saw as a boy. Thank you very much for posting Nestor.

      Could very well be this one, yeah. This movie also has an English version (which is heavily edited) which was meant to be broadcasted in other countries under the name "Battle for the wounded", I think, since this battle is actually very well known and is studied in American military schools, so it's likely that you saw this movie. Either way fascinating that it was broadcasted in Malaysia! Greetings to another Non-aligned movement member!

    Just finished watching this film and don’t know quite what to say. I’d started in on two other shorter versions (Hollywood cuts) with English dubbed and terrible video quality and gave up. This is the original Yugoslav production and watching it is an awfully powerful experience. Among the best, and certainly most visceral, movies set during the Second World War (although of course with understandable propagandist elements given Tito’s government financed it). Kudos to the thousands of extras who were likely paid very little to work in gruelling circumstances and harsh conditions. Two thumbs way up!

      @benh4569 Год назад

      @@NestorIvanovychMakhno 1st, thank you for the great translation. I have been working in video for a while, and the easiest thing is attach a separate file like .srt. You can then download the movie, bring in the .srt file, and there is software like VSDC editor to make a copy with the subtitles burned in.
      However, I 1st wanted to watch it with subtitles, but with the movie downloaded already into a .mp4 file. Downloading the movie was easy, but I could not figure how to get the subtitles. If you get the RUclips transcript, it's not coding the timestamps correctly, and even when you tell any media player to include subtitles, they won't appear. They all need start AND end time for the subtitles to appear, and doing the RUclips transcript trick only puts the start time.
      Finally, the DVDVideosoft web page has an app you can download the subtitles, but only into a .txt file - but it does include start and end time for the subtitles to flash onscreen, so you just need to change the filetype.
      The easiest thing would be commanding an app to download both the RUclips movie AND the subtitles at the same time - I don't know a way, only how I describe in 3 steps. In the end, the goal is 1 downloaded file as .mp4 with the movie, another with the subtitles in .srt format, OR just 1 .mp4 file with the movie AND subtitles burned in - I got it done but no easy way to do it in 1 step.

    Radnja filma je tačno prikazana kako se bitka zaista odvijala.
    Ova bitka kod nadgrobnih spomenika se nije desila.
    Talijanski kapetan Riva nije učestvovao u ovoj bitki.On je posle kapitulacije Italije 1943. prešao na stranu partizana i komandovao svojom jedinicom.Poginuo je u borbi s Nemcima.

    • @NestorIvanovychMakhno
      @NestorIvanovychMakhno  3 года назад +3

      I believe it was a tactic decision to blow up all the bridges and leave just one bridge standing to make the Germans think that the Partisans are going to try to escape via that remaining bridge. So the Partisans later rebuilt one of bridges they blew up and crossed the river easily since only Chetniks awaited them on this bridge, not expecting the Partisans.

    Made in Yugoslavia with an at the time massive budget personally approved by Josip Broz Tito featuring some A-List talent! But unfortunately Marshall Tito was a fan of spaghetti westerns so this film is heavily padded with period overacting - particularly that no one ever just drops dead, everyone takes a second or two and often spins 180° before finally collapsing dramatically to the ground. But then the purpose was heroic propaganda not an accurate historical record.

      I can only imagine what director veljko bulajic would have acomplished with this movie had he been instructed to just do it as it was in the war, this is not to far from reality but it has a lot of that what you said in it.

    • @vladimird5280
      @vladimird5280 2 года назад +2

      Unfortunately fan of so called spaghetti westerns you say which were in 90% of the cases at lest 2 times better in almost every possible sense than any American western. Not to mention guys like Sergio Leone.... That's some spaghetti westerns for you and bunch of great pieces of art. And so is this picture, and overacting or not you're completely missing the point here, these were all real events only each one 2 times more horrific than shown in the movie. Also- a heroic propaganda ? Mate, read some fucking history for crying out loud will ya', you don't need much of a damn propaganda for pointing out great heroism of Yugoslav partisans who were some of the most heroic guys in both wars, always with 10 times less weapon as well as everything else, than the enemy and who were more than often completely misrepresented by the "world's history".
