The Office of Legacy Management was established in 2003 to manage DOE’s post-closure responsibilities and to ensure the future protection of human health and the environment through long-term stewardship. The histories of legacy sites vary, as do the regulatory regimes under which they are managed. Today, the Office of Legacy Management has responsi-bilities for over 100 sites associated with the Manhattan Project and the Cold War, spread across the country from Alaska to Puerto Rico.
Padraic Benson- He joined the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Legacy Mgmt. in 2013. He serves as a program analyst, based out of the LM Operations Center in Westminster, Colorado. Padraic began his federal career with the U.S. National Park Service in 2009 and spent 3 years in Washington, DC, at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, home of the famed nineteenth century abolitionist.
