Home Free was founded way back in 2000 or 2001 by brothers Adam and Chris Rupp with their friend Matt Atwood. Adam Bastien (pronounced Bass {like the fish} teen {like teenager} was part of the rotating members of Home Free before the Sing-Off. He was with the group when Rob joined about 2009. When Home Free was filming The Sing-Off, they still had touring obligations, so they put together the 2nd string to fullfil those. Bastien was part of that 2nd string. Because there are now three Adam's in the group, HF has elected to go by last names to avoid confusion. So Adam Rupp (Rupp), Adam Chance (Chance) and Adam Bastien (Bastien). Rob and Tim are not changing their names (lol). Bastien chose this Bonnie Raitt cover to introduce himself to the Home Fries. I love the jazzy bluesy sound to this song. It's different. Can't wait to see what comes next. Great reaction.
And on a side note Bastien was a member of 7th Ave, the group Chris put together after leaving Home Free along with his sister Tristin Rupp. The usual 4th member was Kelley Jakle but I've also seen one video where Adam Bell-Bastien's (as he was known until recently) husband Jerome Bell-Bastien was the 4th member of the group. The couple performed as OneUp, also known as OneUpDuo and appeared on The Voice.
Fantastic! Just like I knew it would be! I'm excited to see more of the energy and smiles Bastien brings to the group. They made a great choice for this addition to the group. People need to realize he wasn't picked to replicate Austin . No one could do that. He was picked for the great things he can add. It definitely helps he has a history with them. Adam Bastien, and his husband Jerome, have been singing at Disco nights, and Pride events, here in Michigan, NYC and other spots recently. Like all performers, I’m sure B’ll adapt to the more country HomeFree vibe, but still be his authentic self. Got a nice pop/musical theater voice. Doesn’t have Austin’s grit or lower range, but he fits in well enough that they are going to keep making music, and that makes me happy. New album coming. I’ve got tickets for September and December. Should be fun. ✌🏽❤️🏠🆓
Yep. They have been friends with him for 20 years or so. They all really like him as a person, and he has some really goofball humor, which is needed to be part of the group. He has received a very enthusiastic welcome from most of the fans.

Everyone sounded awesome in the background vocals, Rob with his bluesy sound, Tim's bass & Adam's vocal percussion. Looking forward to more of the new songs with the newest member.
When Adam B stepped into Austin’s place his first concert was at a festival in Lima OH his second he was thrown into the fire at the Grand Ol Opry he said in a live stream after he was so scared that he had cotton mouth but trust me you couldn’t really tell he did great. I’m looking forward to the new era of Home Free
Over the years, Home Free has welcomed many amazing singers as either filling in when real life got in the way of touring or as permanent members. The original high tenor, Matt Atwood, was active in music theater and his family's business so would need to have others fill in. That is how they met Bastien. Basically, Home Free has a list of former members/fill ins to pick from. And if they are on that list, you know they are top notch singers. Can't wait to see where this leads them.
For about 5 years he sang with Chris Rupp in the project he did after he left HF called 7th Ave Band. The third Rupp, Tristan, their sister, is part of that too. They have great videos you could check out. You’ll be blown away by sister Rupp! They do more show tunes, and much more choreographed dance. 🎶🥰
One of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs gets the Home Free treatment. A perfect song to introduce Bastien as a member. I see someone else gave you his history with HF. huh, I swear there were comments here before. HF is far older than the Chris/Adam/Rob/Tim/Austin combo. Rob joined in about 2008, Tim was in and out but stayed about 2010, and Austin in 2012. There were MANY members over the first 12 years. And, yes, Bastein was with them - he was supposedly part of "the B team" that fulfilled HF's concert schedule while they were on the Sing Off but he also evidently travelled with the band at least a bit in 2011, based on something he said on Rob's pod cast. if you have the time, Chris did a 7 part series on the HF history, they are on his channel.
Check out "Between Two Tims" for Chance being told that they existed a bit before the Sing Off. Actually just check it out, as long as you've seen an episode of Between Two Ferns previously.
In one of Tim’s stories with Chris, he talks about a time (2012?) they all broke on stage, with Bastien bent over double laughing, and only Chris left singing. Didn’t sound like they had a big audience and just gave up that song in the middle. 😂
Another Adam so last names! Bastion has such drive, power energy and energy in his voice. Kinda like your kids, you have reduce or split your love when added ones, there's just more love! Don't have take away from Austin to give to the 'new' guy!

He not only filled in on the early days of Home Free, but he also did duets with Chris and Adam Rupp's sister Tristan, who with Bastien became core members of the group 7th Ave which Chris Rupp formed when he left HF in 2016. That group was together for around 5 years, and there are multiple videos of 7th Ave featuring Adam in their video performances on RUclips. When Austin decided to leave, HF knew that Bastien would be their perfect replacement, and this intro video shows how talented he is and comfortable before the camera and on stage.
I hope I'm not spoiling your fond imaginings, but Bastien would look more like a state trooper if there'd been one in the Village People. (Hey, you have to admit, it's a little weird...I mean, there's never been a gay guy in Home Free before! 😜 ) I like your comparison: Austin makes you want to listen, Bastien makes you want to sing along. Rob was in there the earliest of the members you know now, but before that they had several members in and out of the group in early days and Austin took over Matt Atwood's (Who was an original start-up group member) tenor spot around 2012. Adam Bastien was with Home Free not sure of the year, but others that sang in Home Free before were : Chris Rupp. Matt Atwood, Darren Scruggs, Dan Lemke, Chris Foss, Elliot Robinson (talented bass check him out), Troy Hume, Matthew Tuey, Joe Fine, Joe Kent and now Austin Brown has left. Changes are going to happen and I completely understand why he left, but it's hard to accept change sometimes and I will miss Austin in Home Free too because they did fit so well together in every way, but Bastien fits too, just in a little different way and I'm excited to get to know him and his personality a bit more as his time goes on making music within this great, very talented, group.

However, Austins experience and talent set him apart and he was chosen. When Chris left, he formed a group called 7th Ave with his sister, Tristan, Bastien, and a 4th member that changed some. You can find those videos on YT. Bastien and his husband competed on 15th season of The Voice as OneUp Duo, and they continue to perform (rebranded as Bell Bastien) to the present day.
I think Home Free made an excellent choice by premiering a song featuring Bastien right at the start. I do like him. I miss Austin, but Basstien was a great choice. If he was with Home Free before, it's news to me. I was under the same impression you are--that the original group was Tim, Austin, Adam Rupp, Chris Rupp, and Rob. I may be mistaken about that, though.

No intent to criticize Bastien, but I'm not getting state trooper vibes. The small neat mustache, short pomaded hair and very short sides on the hair give me silent movie villain vibes. He seems like a very nice person and a good singer but that's the visual associations I'm getting 😂.
