I use Sony Imaging Edge with my A7rIV and A1. I also use on occasion my dummy battery for the camera so I don't run out of battery and I always have it handy in case I do run out of battery and still need to shoot. I've ditched Capture One and now use Imaging Edge, and Affinity Photo for my work flow.
Hi Desiree, great work. Im new to Imaging Edge Desktop and need your help. I want to tether my Sony a7 iv with Green Screen Removal for Live Events. What is the simplest and most effective way to achieve this. A video tutorial would be amazing.
Hi! Thanks for the video and iseful tips. What about the other modiles of the Imaging Desktop? Especially the Viewer? Does the viewer have full screeing image preview? The timeline in the bottom occupies unnecessarily a lot of screen. If I use another viewing app, it opens each picture in a separate window, which is inconvenient.
Thank you for a well thought out presentation! I want to go wirelessly from my Sony bodies to the app on a 12.4" Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Just to have something in my studio that clients can see soon after I take a shot. Have you heard of folks doing this before?
Thanks for watching! I haven't heard of anyone doing that while the camera is tethered to the computer using the Imaging Edge app. It may work if the camera is connected to a different tethering software like Smart Shooter or Capture One and then wirelessly connected to the tablet through the app, in case the camera can only connect to one Sony app at a time. I haven't tried that setup but having a dedicated screen for clients to view the photos is nice to have while you're shooting.
I can't figure out which program is running in the background for the life of me! I keep getting an error message but I've closed everything that I know of. It has to be a program on my MAC because the same camera with the same cable works on my Samsung laptop viewer. Suggestions?
I'm glad you like it! It's from Oliver Michael and it's called Camaro. I got it from Artlist which is one of the sites I use to get music for my videos. This is the link to the song but you will need a subscription to download it. artlist.io/royalty-free-music/song/camaro/28443
Thank you for taking time and explaining all this process Desiree!! I am trying to shoot remote videos in remote mode and they are not saving to my laptop. Photos are saving and works fine, but not with videos. Did you had this issue, what could be the problem?
This is really super helpful video. Is there a way to tether and upload to an online storage as soon as we capture the image? That way clients can scan the ar code of my drive link and look at the pics
You can turn on Lightroom sync for the collection you are saving the photos in. Then you can open Lightroom mobile on another device and as those photos are added to the collection on the computer they will sync to your Lightroom mobile account and appear on any device that has the app.
The only issue im having is that the live view on my MacBook pro looks low quality. Is there a reason why the live view may look that way? I'm recording video in 4K and it looks fine on camera just not on the live view tethering.
Thank you! You would have to check if the Imaging Edge app is compatible with the A7. Most likely it is but it may not access all of the camera's features as it does for the newer models.
Yes it is but it uses the micro USB. Be sure you have a secure connection to your camera before you do as the adapters from usb to micro usb tend to not be very secure. I have an arc base to my camera that has a slot to route your cables so they don't get yanked out of the camera and is more stable than the floppy connection from tether tools. Tethertools solution is fine with the usb-c connection and Hdmi if you are using one of those for any reason.
You would have to do this everytime you want to do a tethered setup. I just released a new video with a different software that has a much easier one time setup and works so much faster. You can watch it here. ruclips.net/video/h8sJTVP1IMU/видео.html
I have tried to tether my A74 to my MacBook Pro with no success. I have version 2.01 on my camera. Could that be why it's not working? My menu screens don't look like yours in the video. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I don't see the 'Connect mode' graphic on my camera that you show at 5:15. Instead, I get "USB mode Mass storage'. Imaging edge says it doesn't find the camera, though the cards come up as discs
Does the USB-C Cable charge the camera for along time for streaming. Also do I need some kind off dummy battery to keep it from not dying ? Sony a7iv is confusing 🤔
Yes the USB-C cable will power the camera for a long time as long as there is a battery inside the camera. If you have the USB-C cable and the battery in the camera, you don't need a dummy battery since that combination acts as a dedicated power supply. Previous A7 models required a dummy battery connected to a power adapter to keep the camera on for a long time but not the A7IV.
sorry language: fuking thanks! its hard to find this in portuguese... now u can update becouse the menu of a7iv was update becouse the firmware 3.0. but i find and make the setup works. thanks!!!!
Why the bafoonery would lightroom not get the code for tethering sony cameras? Sure, just be lazy and have 33% of your customer base go to another company that does get the tethering code 🧠
The document “DSC03404.ARW” could not be opened. Imaging Edge Desktop cannot open files in the “Sony ARW raw image” format. =( stupid update ruined everything, no it doesn't work.
oh wow your little tip about shutting down dropbox and waiting 1 minute finally made it work for me! Thank you so much!
I'm glad it worked for you!
Thank you!! Your video was the only one that explained the Dropbox issue and actually worked!
I'm so glad to hear that the video helped!

This was super helpful, thanks very much for taking the time and effort to share this detailed walkthrough. Much appreciated!
Great info Desiree! I’m now in the Sony camp and learning about their features. This is a useful visual aid, nicely paced and detailed.
Thank you, Regards From Mexico
Can't thank you enough. Wow. Very helpful video!

Great video. Would you happen to know if I can tether to my Sony A7? The first A7 lol. Thanks for this.

Do I have to do this every time I tether? this is a lot of work! or from now on am I plug and play?

Yes that could be it. Sony made a change to that model after the 2.0 update. You will have to use their creator app for phones and tablets to tether.
You are amazing!!! Thank you 🙏 ❤
Hello @Desiree,
I looked everywhere how to hide the operation panel in imaging edge and just view the full screen of Live view. Any solution?
Thanks
thanks

USB C to USB cable from the phone will doesn't work?
Isn't there a way to do it wirelessly through WIFI? I have A6600!
Remote Shoot (PC Remote) is grayed out after I connect via USB. No idea what setting to change to get it to be an active option.
