Thank you for the information. I really appreciate the fact that you get right to point and give an example and walk through each settings and abilities. Excellent!
Thanks for this. I used Capture 1 for a month or so and couldn't justify the price. This super handy. Installed it on my iMac and my MacBook Air. I use manual lenses and this helps with the focus previewing.
Yes, I have used Capture One for many years, and the price of updating is really getting on my nerves. It's a fantastic program and it's very powerful, but it's really expensive, I'm guessing that because the pros that use it get paid in gold, so for them it's not that bad. Sony Imaging Edge desktop is a great program, it works really well, and for manual lenses it's a blast. I'm happy I could help you 🔥
Wow - nearly double the number of subs you stated in the opening of this vid, in just a couple of months! Well done :) The quality of your videos is really high and is probably a large factor in this... keep up the great work!
Thank You! It's been a lot of work, but I still need to up my game a LOT to hit my goals, not only in sense of community and subs, but how I want my channel to look and to further increase the quality of my videos and content. Thank You again, I really appreciate the comment 🔥
I have used Imaging Edge for several years now on a Windows 7 platform. But, I prefer the Mac. You taught me a few additional points which will hasten the day for me to set it up on my Mac Powerbook. Thank you. Very concise without much rambling.
Thank You! I'm doing my best, it's a lot of work, and on all these videos I get a fair amount of questions, so I make sure I keep some time free during each day to sit down and write back.
Simple and to the point, greta tutorial and keep the content up, would like some videos with the Sony-ZV 1 as I'm getting it soon and may need some help, anyway great video and I subbed, thank you!

Thank you for this super helpful video!! I was able to get my Sony a6400 tethered to my MacBook following your video! I do have a question that maybe you can help with. I sometimes want to use the live view as a monitor to watch when doing macro video makeup application on myself. However the live view is flipped so it gets difficult to use it as a mirror of sorts because the motion is in the opposite direction. Is there any setting to flip the live view?
You're welcome! I had to connect my camera, check if there were any new updates and see if they added a horizontal flip option, but I'm afraid they haven't, which is a shame as it's quite a simple need. Let's hope they drop an update for this option in the future. Have a great end of year Lisa!
Thank you for such an informative video. I always come back to it whenever I am facing tethering issues. I have a question, when I connect my Sony A7iii to my mac in Remote it allows me to rotate my video but is there anyway to mirror image it because I shoot myself my actions are always shown opposite on the screen which gets confusing. Thank you in advance!
Your'e welcome! You can use whatever one you wish that will connect to your camera and computer, I've always used tether tools, but other cables do work, not always, but usually don't pose a problem.
Is there a way to preview and select if you wanna keep the videos after recording? I have an old Canon and just switched to a Sony ZVE-10. And on Canon, I had the Canon software where i could control the camera to focus, shoot and record as well. And I was testing the sony one, the pictures go straight to the computer, but is there a way to do this with the videos as well? - Record it, watch it, discard or keep it without have to unplug the USB and all?
Thanks a bunch. I have a weird thing going on . When I shoot tethered, the shots appear briefly on the screen, but the latest image only lasts a second or two before the screen defaults back to the first image shot in the session. For portrait sessions, when the client is adjusting poses etc., this is frustrating because I have to walk back to the screen and click back on the latest image for every shot. Help!!
That is odd. I’ve had this problem a couple of times, and I usually do the same as you. All the Imaging Edge apps need to be updated in my opinion, they do the job but still a world away from Adobe or Capture One.
Hey Phillip, thanks for this. Super helpful. I'm currently trying to flip or mirror the screen on my Imagining Edge Desktop. Right now it's opposite - so when I go left, it's showing I go right. D'you know how I can change this? Been exploring for a while, but can't seem to find a setting unfortunately. Would really appreciate your help. Thanks!
hi i like how your video is sharp and no noise even even on 1080. Could you give me some tips how you got this result? which camera did you use for this video?, which lens?, which profile pic, what setting? thanks also some tips on the editting software as well. thanks
Hi. On 08:52 , with focus adjustments, what if you hold click the focus arrow? is it possible to achieve a smooth rack focus while recording? would really appreciate if you test it and reply, thanks
There should be an option in your camera to save to memory card and computer when taking photos, that is if you're using the Sony A7III. For filming I'm afraid it will only save to the memory card.
You're welcome! Well, you can connect your Sony to your computer with whatever cable you need, I use a Macbook Pro where there are only usb-c connections, and the a7iii has a usb-c connection so I make use of that, but you can connect it via usb to usb multi I believe, as long as it connects it should work.
Hi, Thanks for the video. Just a quick question. When creating a folder to save images to, are you able to create this on an external hard drive attached to the computer? Thanks in advance.
You're welcome! Sure, you can pick them up from this company - www.tethertools.com/product-category/cables-adapters/usb-c-cables (I think they should be available on Amazon)
Great video. One question, i am trying to record video directly to MAC desktop folder using this software so hope save a trip transferring files from SD Card to USB reader. is it possible?
No, that's not possible. The video will record onto your memory card and not the computer, only photos are saved to the computer when using this program.
Is there a way to use this with a green screen? Like I'm trying to take pictures for my summer clothing collection and I want a beach scene and I'm wondering if there is a way to hook up my cannon camera to my laptop so I can upload the beach image I want in the software so when I take a picture the image saves as the image I want and not the green screen?
Is there a way to show the settings using this app? Like the shutter speed, aperture, and iso? I'm because I want to record the camera LCD screen and I found this way to be the best
Hi! No, I'm afraid there is no way to record what you see on your camera screen using this app. I haven't done that before but I think people do that using monitors like the Atomos Ninja V, or you can even use your smartphone and film the inside of your viewfinder, that works too.
What can I do if I still get ‘cannot connect to camera’ prompt? I changed my camera setting like you suggested and I don’t have any other apps open on the computer.
Great tutorial. I would like my camera to capture and store RAW files but I only want JPEG versions sent to my computer (PC). How do I do that? Also, how do I see my photos after I take them? Switching to Viewer gets me nothing (the images are on the camera, but apparently nowhere else). This app is tremendously buggy and annoying! Thanks!
Need your help! I connected my a6000 to Macbook using Imaging Edge software. It connects and i can see the controls in Remote mode but my Mac screen doesn’t show anything. Like the display stays dark. If i click a picture on Mac it captures and opens that picture in a viewer window but still the remote display shows nothing. How do i fix this? Please help,
Great video - thank you! I can’t make my A7iii autofocus when tethered. Clicking to focus doesn’t work. Although it autofocuses just fine when in video mode. Any ideas where I’ve gone wrong?
That is odd. Did you follow all my steps here? I've found some lenses don't work, some need the focus to be set on manual, it's a little bit here and there.
Hi Albert, I had the same issue with my a7iii, but i found the solution for this: just go to your camera, Menú, photo settings (1), pag. 7, Pre-AF, and turn it ON. You’ll find this very annoying if you are not using the program, so I turn it ON only when needed. :)
I have used previous version of Imaging Edge Desktop (IEDT) successfully on Macs in the past, but, for the life of me, I just couldn’t get the latest version of IEDT to work on my M1 Mac Studio. IEDT would detect the a7R4 attached to the USB port, but when attempting to start a capture session, it would then report that the camera could not be “found”. Capture One worked flawlessly (identical USB cord, port, camera settings, etc.). This shouldn’t be a thing, but, IMHO, if you are having troubles with IEDT, reconsider the overpriced Capture One.
I am looking to use this software to view video on a Mac display while I'm recording video with a Sony A7r IV. Will that work? I've considered buying something like Black Magic or Magewell, but if this software does it without the need for any other hardware, that would be awesome. Please advise.
Yes, that would work. You would only be able to record onto the memory card though, not onto the computer. I recommend testing this before hand, just so you know how everything works. Thanks for dropping by 🔥
Does Sony Imaging Edge software have the option to take still photos from video recorded from a camera that works with said software? I know play memories had that feature before they replace that software with Edge. Its an import feature for me since I'm trying to decide on buying a Sony A7 iii Camera or not. Thanks so much for your time.
You can have a live video feed, sure, and you can use Imaging Edge to record but only to your memory card, not to the actual laptop. If I need to pull frames from video I use Final Cut Pro X, I find that to be the easiest way.
Have you tried multi-USB port (micro) instead of usb-C port on camera side? Is there any difference in speed? Got only this option of tether pro cord in my local store
Awesome! Is there a way of having each pic being displayed automatically in full screen? Lets say I'm shooting in a studio and I have a 2nd screen connected. I can't figure out how to get viewer into full screen mode. I do use lightroom tho.
In Lightroom that's possible, but you can't tether with Sony just yet. In Imaging Edge, I'm afraid not, let's hope they work on it though in the next year.
hey Philip! do you know how I could possibly both mirror the camera screen and send files to my laptop? so I can record a movie and see it a moment later on my laptop? it looks like sending files is blocked during tethering, and I have to go to the camera, change settings, send files and then see the video. very inefficient for tests. do you know any workaround? I do appreciate your involvement in answering all of the questions! Thank you and keep going! [subscribed] :)
Hey Kuba, well, this is a problem. For photos, sure, you can tether them straight to the computer, or you can tether them to the computer and save them on the SD card having the preview on a laptop screen. When it comes to video, I'm afraid you can only save onto the SD card, there is no way of saving the video onto the computer via tethering, however, if you need just a preview, you can always press record screen on a Mac, or download a similar program on a pc. Apart from recording the screen I'm not aware of any possibility to transfer full res video to the computer I'm afraid. Thank You for the sub, I really appreciate that!
is it possible to import wirelessly photos to my MacBook Pro from my Sony a7r iii. on imaging edge, managed it on my iPhone but a faff have to air drop onto my Mac
To tell you the truth I haven't used this in a few months, there might have been an update and depending on your camera there may now be a way for it to be saved on both the camera and memory card.
@@PhillipSkraba Took me a while but I figured out there was just a setting on my camera! I shoot on a Sony A7iii and I needed to change the setting from just ‘save to pc’ to ‘save to pc and camera’

Thanks dude... i've been fighting with my a73 for a week. Turned off the smart phone option and shazaam.. back in business.
You're welcome! It's a great app, I've started using it for stop motion, now that's fun!
Have you tried multi-USB port (micro) instead of usb-C port on camera side? Is there any difference in speed? Got only this option of tether pro cord in my local store
I'm afraid I only have the usb-c to usb-c type cable, I haven't tried any others. I'm not sure micro usb will work, so I can't confirm that.
Can you control several cameras via the program . I would like to record trigger multiple cameras all at once .
I'm afraid it's not that advanced.
Is it possibly to run 2 diferents instances of the soft? for example one for a6000 and the other for a6500 at same time?
I'm afraid not, no.
@@PhillipSkraba thought so, what a shame! Thank you clarifying!
No problem!
hey Philip! do you know how I could possibly both mirror the camera screen and send files to my laptop? so I can record a movie and see it a moment later on my laptop? it looks like sending files is blocked during tethering, and I have to go to the camera, change settings, send files and then see the video. very inefficient for tests. do you know any workaround?
No, I'm afraid not without extra equipment, the Sony a7R III doesn't support wireless tethering, that comes with the Sony a7R IV.
Thank you for this. Will it work with an A7RII at all?
It's possible! Check the compatibility list on the website.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you. I will do.
Is there a way to have it save to both the SD card as a backup and the hardrive when tethering? Amazing video by the way!
