I Picture myself alone in a city, watching from a window in a big apartment, reflecting on my regrets and my loneliness. This song brings an odd satisfaction to the things I wish I did but didn't have the guts to. I'm busy writing a break up letter to my partner now, and for the first time voicing my needs. Fearing that I will regret it, hoping to buy more time with him. But also knowing I can't waste more time feeling unloved. Feeling like I'm too much, when I'm just being a girlfriend, being present in a gentle and usual way. My cat is sleeping next to me now, and I am calmly reminded of the joy I can get from other beings. That they give me love too.
You're not alone in a city, you're fifty feet behind the wall of someone else feeling the same emotions. You may feel far away from the next person you see, but in truth you could be standing next to them after 120 seconds of taking the elevator down, walking 4 blocks, and looking back up at your window to realize you are the same being down here as you are up there. So, it isn't where you are that is impacting you so much, rather, it's how you accompany the environment around you. In the apartment, the only thing reflecting is your silhouette in the window. And as soon as you leave from the ledge, the window lets your reflection go instantaneously. From this, it is important to realize the world is happening with or without your intervention. Rain falls. The river flows. The birds sing. and the sun rises in the morning. If you would like to not feel so deeply, you must realize you suffer because you desire. Desire is the most immediate and present emotion there is. It relates to NOW or the present moment better than any other emotion there is. Your desire for another partner or life path harbors this presumed gilt and regret. Ask yourself, if the depth of your consciousness causes you to suffer, is it a blessing or a curse to feel so very deeply? I think you'll find that the meaning of life warrants a much more sophisticated answer than either one or the other. Remember, the only way out of these challenges is to go through them. You take more of the thing that poisons you until you turn it into a tonic that girdles the world around you. This is what makes us stronger. Not immune by any means, but the experience of it all is what allows us to move past the emotions that hold us in the past and expand our human experience into a manifestive state the propels us forward. I hope everything worked out for the best. "This too shall pass" is a good quote to live by in times like these if you need an anchor. Six months have gone by, and I imagine life is completely different than what you thought it would be. Safe travels, young soul.
