No one condemned the movie,they just have their opinion on something they think looks bad. I'm routing for this movie but I do think that scene looks bad. For whatever reason, the face gives off Henry Cavill CGI lip vibes (which was terrible too). They have lots of time to correct whatever's going on in this scene and they wouldn't have thought about correcting it if no one shared their opinion.
This shot wasn’t done with vfx this is a wide angle lens and a wind machine withe a green screen background. You can change the lens without putting vfx on top of it which will just make it look worse and cost a small fortune. His only option is to reshoot it with a different lens.
I'm thinking it might be the wind machine. The wind pressure is "fattening" his face, making it look fake, it would also explain the "wandering eye" thing.

However in the clip for this thumbnail we’re looking at here, it looks like he’s seasoned enough in it to be able to do air tricks. Context is everything, and if we’re talking that shot being used to make you go see the movie, it’s a bad take.

The head looks photoshopped onto a body. Eyes are looking different directions and one is bigger. Hair looks like a toupee'. Whether or not Gunn is lying about the CGI, it looks bad. They shouldn't have released it like that. The film has enough problems.

People are so used to dark, muddy, shaky, 100% CGI Superman flying shots, that they have no idea how to react when the actor in the frame is real and the background plate is real, and the colors look like realistic daylight instead of some weird gray or teal filter slapped over everything.

I actually didn’t really mind the shot, his face just looked a little off (something about his eyes looks a bit far apart and David doesn’t really look like that). But the explanation of it being because of the camera lens makes complete sense. It explains the arms and chest as well, which I honestly didn’t have any issue with in the first place.

I think instead of trying to say it’s peak cinema or absolute weird dogshit, we should actually put into words about how we feel about the shot and why it does or doesn’t work for us. Me personally? I love it! Gunn said earlier how the flying scenes are inspired by Top Gun Maverick, and that’s definitely proven here in this shot. You’re flying with Superman in this wide angle scene as the cameras are flying with him it feels like. It’s a creative choice that I enjoy. I also understand the other side of people who don’t like the scene because they’re not a fan of the new trend of face close ups when the character is flying. That’s perfectly fine, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It just means you don’t like it. Ironically, CGI would be the thing that WOULD make you guys like it! Because with CGI, David’s face would be perfect. Gunn is daring to approach this from a practical angle, and I think that’s really interesting but also bound to have some criticisms. That’s just filmmaking.

The shot doesn’t look bad. It looks stupid. Dude doesn’t look like Superman. His hair looks glued on and painted like it’s a Hair Club for Men job. And the pale looking suit against his pale face and weirdly black glued on hair does not work. That script better be next level to make up for this cheese.

The sonic movie is a perfect example of criticism can cause major change to make the movie better. After 3 movies that sonic trilogy is very profitable so I hope the same for the Superman movie
