Why haven't the Cleveland Cavaliers made a decision about JB Bickerstaff's future yet?

  • The Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated from the playoffs in the 2nd round by the Boston Celtics and there seems to be a bunch of turmoil within the locker room, so it begs the question as to what changes should the Cavs make in the off-season. Should they move on from Head Coach JB Bickerstaff or give him another season? Should they move on from General Manager Koby Altman too?
Amid a dramatic franchise transformation, the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed coach J.B. Bickerstaff to a multiyear extension, the team announced Saturday.
Bickerstaff will be under contract through the 2026-27 season, sources told ESPN.
Bickerstaff and general manager Koby Altman have worked together to reshape the Cavaliers around a young core -- including guard Darius Garland and big men Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley -- that appears to have a significant runway for success.

"J.B. Bickerstaff is, with all certainty, the right head coach to lead this franchise into what we believe is a very promising future," said Altman in a prepared statement. "The decision to extend J.B. is not based solely on the early success of this season, but rather a body of work since his arrival to Cleveland. His leadership style, coaching experience and commitment to player development has instilled a growing confidence that resonates across our entire organization. We continue to see innovative and strategic examples of his impact on this roster, coupled by his unique ability to build upon a culture that leads to sustainable success."

Without donovan mitchell the cavs don't go Upward.
The cavaliers won 17 out of 18 games with him at the helm (and no Garland). Some of those games against the best teams in the NBA. They won those games with Strus and Niang playing prominent rolls. This means to me that they both can play at a top level. So Cobe did good to get them. The problem is with JB not using them correctly. When garland came back and the cavaliers started again with the two small guard offense, It was back to the same old mediocrity. That is on JB. Not Cobe. JB did not use players correctly. It was obvious to everyone except JB that garland Hurt the team-- at both ends of the floor. That's huge not seeing that and it cost the cavaliers dearly. There are other personnel moves that he did poorly also. Dean Wade was rated by the NB.A as the top defensive player. He also is a forty percent shooter from the arc. At six foot ten myguess is that there is a lot of interest in him from other teams. JB has treated him like the proverbial red-headed stepson. When Wade and o'coro were getting tons of minutes during that great winning streak, teams could not score one hundred points. This includes the top escalon teams.
As for Cobes liability, He took a huge chance on the two-small- guards playing together and it did not work. He gave up A LOT to get it. That's on Cobe.

@@rccollins1456 that was last year who are you gonna fire him for this year??? JJ Reddick?? Another 80 year old college coach?? Can't fire him if there's not a better option out there. Sometimes is better to just let things play out. Take Denver's coach for example. Malone didn't win his first championship till his 8th season. Look at Mike Brown he has gotten better through the years and was coach of the year just 2 seasons ago. Not saying we have that much time to wait on JB but if there is no better options out there isn't best to just tweek some things and get him players that fit better with each other?? Why tear everything down?? G-Bush's solution is just to clean house get rid of everybody, draft bronny and bring back LeBron.

I would like to see us get a coach maybe one of the assistant coaches from a proven system? Imo we aren't utilizing the talent we have .I would like to Keep allen atleast for this year . In the East… along with the other players they still have to trade for pieces to fit around Lebron like DG, JA, Levert… of course if Lebron is showing little to know interest you quickly shift back to focusing on Mitchell but the only reason I would say Lebron should be main priority is because getting Lebron is nearly Guaranteeing Mitchell signing extension
