- I have been told my videos are too long. Show too much tedious and manual work. Taking this to heart, I have reduced the steps to the absolute minimum.
Enjoy.

I jut hope you release the long version so we can all downvote it because its too long and boring. Joke aside I really would like the long version. they are beautiful and therapeutic.
You will get the chance for that! I RUclips should really allow you to down vote per minute of video. I will suggest that as a feature. I just started color grading yesterday and have a few more edits to make before I can start the voice over.
@@NielsProvos Nice! I'll be waiting for it. thank you
Don't listen to the impatient riff-raff! I love the tedium.
In that case, your patience will be rewarded by a truly tedious video coming soon.
@@NielsProvos I'm hoping for a real time video lasting several weeks :)
@@NielsProvos Cheers!
I love the detail, myself, but this video is amazing.
Thank you for your appreciation of the minimalist approach.
I really enjoy your long form content. Beautiful knife!
Haha well done sir! And for those that think your work takes too long to view..... well then it is your loss for not seeing what the craft is about and what it takes to accomplish the work! You keep doing what you do sir!
FWIW I love and appreciate your skills, techniques, and craftsmanship. Even if it’s in a long video.
Nice one Niels. As from my side I am coming back to your your long videos to watch them, time and time again.
That's great to hear. Thank you. I hope you will like the long form version of this one.
That was awesome! I personally think your videos are great the way they are. The people that complain don't really want to learn anything from you and see different techniques.
Thank you. There aren't really many people who complain about the long content. They probably switch to different videos after a couple of minutes. I just wanted to get a heartbeat out :-)
For me, hear you and watch you is hypnotic
I love it! Hope you have a follow up with more detail, I think most people don't realize how much work you are already cutting out of your videos.
That's so true. The video for this knife is around 30 minutes right now and I believe I need to cut away at least another 5 minutes.
Still watched at double speed, could probably cut at least half the footage. Seriously, I think you're videos are great as they are (I wish I could do as well). They are relaxing and informative at the same time, I generally watch them on a Sunday morning with a coffee and my feet up.
Exactly what i was hoping for. Lol!
Haha!!! Well played sir!!!!
This is perhaps the sassiest video I've ever seen. Well done Niels!
Glad you liked it. Much easier to make than the longer ones :-)
I was all excited to see you make a knife I never called you tedious
No worries. There will be a real video on this. And the reason I made this knife actually has a neat story.
I would much rather watch the building process. Who cares if a few people gripe about a little extra time. The whole point of making a video of the build video is to teach others and to share what you know. And the information learned watching the video is invaluable to many. But thanks for sharing
Nice.
That was as fulfilling as a twenty second neck rub. You're such a tease!
I liked the part where the bar was magically turned into a knife. 10/10 I knew blacksmithing was 99% magic and 1% cutting a billet of metal.
There is actually a fair amount of Truth to that. I will talk about it for the full video.
Now that's some sense of humor there... Troll the trolls!
They're wrong Niels. I want your videos longer and more tideous 😜 Kidding aside - I love your work. You've taught me a lot. Thank you!
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahhahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!
i love the depth you go into in your videos. its where you videos shine. please do no change anything.
For myself I like your long videos. And your high-register syntax come to that.
Thank you. Where ever I read about success on RUclips, the wisdom says: Make short videos. That said, I like the long-form narrative. It's just not great for making a "successful" channel :-)
Can we have a faster song next time please, without the usual high paced adrenaline hits I nearly fell asleep!
(I actually visited for the long version)
Several months of waiting for a 40 second video? Surely you jest.
Do I jest? Hmm. What if I did not :-)
For the record, the length and detail of your videos is one of the things I love about them! :)
I don't plan to change that :-)
I like the long versions... I also like taking apart engines to figure out how they work...
Dare I say... I'm bored, anyway to cut some fat!!! 😜
Argh! I knew you would say that. I will try to improve for the next one.
LOL!!!!! EXCELENT!!!!
Love it!!
Please don't change, what you got is perfectly balanced, ...if you got the skills skip the frills!
I really would have liked to see what you had done to get to the final product. People who say that you're videos are to long and tedious don't know what Blacksmithing is.
Hey manic bin watching your videos for years now and I love all of them and the longer they are the better I love the information u give and the things you teach have taken my own skills higher then I would have accomplished on my own so please I would love to see more videos by you and have them be longer
Is there the 15 second instagram clip with ooen captions so I can watch the first 5 seconds while biking, jogging, or driving?
😂
Then you gotta stop reading the negative comments.
We subscribed for a reason. Your content is create. Way to troll the trolls. 👍🏼
Please don't listen to the naysayers. We enjoy the longer videos.
I learned so much watching your video. I feel I can replicate your knife now. LOL. I guess this is a teaser and the making-of will follow.
I knew it. Just showing the basics of knife making is much more approachable! You clearly are ready to graduate to the next level of content.
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
To be honest I've been subscribed to this channel for 8 years now for the sole reason that I wanted to see the ending to The Serpent in the Sword. The long, interesting, and detailed approach is why I subbed in the first place, and I'll be unsubscribing now because obviously you won't finish that video series - the "interlude" is now 7 years old - and I am extraordinarily uninterested in having smug, snide videos taking shots at people who aren't even your audience litter my youtube feed. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I am sorry to see you leave disappointed.
hahaha😂
This was too short! :-)
More appreciation for the minimalist approach! :-)
Awww cmon ... the whole reason I subbed to this channel is because I enjoy the nitty gritty tech details. It's all about the journey, not the destination.
I assume this was just a joke, but on the very small chance you actually do switch to a format targeting Snowflakes (read: lazy, unmotivated, ADHD), i'll do a standing wheel spin when I leave.
Pls upload a long version of the Kitchen knife build please !! 👍❤
The final version will probably land around 20+ minutes. Still more work to do on editing and color grading. Have not started the voice over yet.
@@NielsProvos Yay. If I lived closer, i'd volunteer to help. 😁👍
Like having a child, but only getting to know what they grew up to be and when the die... No name, no connection, no joy or trials to go through with. Just a summary...
Quality shit posting, i love it.
Too much detail. Perhaps next time you can make a video showing us the tool steel the first frame, and the next, the knife. Seriously though, I love your detailed videos, complete with theory behind the stuff that you do. Looking forward to that version on this knife.
Now we are talking. I knew that I had not quite figured out the minimalist approach yet.
@@NielsProvos Your sense of humor is indicative of something. Looking forward to more of your videos. Perhaps even those that are not so minimalist?
TO SHORT..............................
This feels like a trailer for a RUclips video yet to come
I'll just point out that using the exact same footage and the Miracle of editing you can put out a short video like this and one of your traditional length videos and a five-minute Abridged version that's three different uploads off the same footage
That's true. I have been trying that with some of the projects that have been taking me longer to complete. The point of this particular knife is that you can basically make it in a day.
@@NielsProvos oh wow I would have thought it would have taken at least a couple of days to get a knife of that quality though in that case you could have done a 5 to 7 minute one day build video just kind of touching on the steps you took the algorithm seems to like videos of that length
Damn. That was fast, you're really a master. It always takes me a whole day to make one 😂😂
In theory this is a one day knife. With waiting for the epoxy to cure, it's really more like a two day knife.
lol, that's a really nice way to react on "bad" comments. ;-)
😁 Hehe. I just wanted to upload something to RUclips :-)
Who told you that lie.
I think that second slice of the radish was unnecessary . . .
Hmm. I think you are right. Next time!
Do u sell ur knifes......i have been looking for one like this
No. I don't. Hopefully the full video will inspire you to try your hand on making one yourself.
I love the long videos and the instrumental music in the background its nice and relaxing plus all your works are beautiful i love watching you work
Trololololooo
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I forgot I was subscribed here...
Now you remember :-)
:(
I feel like a chastised child!
Oh no. You should feel like that there is a much longer video coming soon.
@@NielsProvos 😍😍😍😍
I see what you did there! XD
Reading the comments I am loocking forward for the long version.
Nice kitchen knife!
Still at 35 minutes. Looking to cut out ten minutes.
