Just to add to this - you can get the 8,000 RPM tach with oil temp gage (instead of the stupid instant economy gage) and also add the variable red-line feature from the M3 on your standard 328i cluster as well - all you need is a spare 335i cluster to disassemble, swap over the tach/oil temp face to your own cluster and then modify the cluster programming with perfekttoolbox (only the tach/oil temp side - the existing speedo/cruise/fuel level settings don't need to be touched, except maybe to tweak the offsets to get a perfect 0 point after the needles are replaced).
Getting the variable redline feature as well involves de-soldering the cruise control ring stepper motor from the donor cluster and soldering it onto the existing blank spot on the tach side of the your own 328i cluster board. Then paint the left over cruise control moving ring from the donor cluster with the red line segment and snap it in with the drive gear ring in place of the existing static tach back ring. A little more programming with perfekttoolbox and you are done!
*just happens to own E30 M3*
Same what i thought .. just casually walks over 😂
You have the patience of a saint bud. Good job.
re-run seriously lol
re-run patience and passion
Looks amazing. Stunned at your patience!
WOW.. excellent video! Been waiting for one like this! thank you man! Subbed!
Awesome job man. I think to minimize the headache and a shit ton of extra work we could just leave the stock rings in there and just do all the other upgrades. Im sure it would still look really good.
I like how intelligent he is, all very simple but I watch for the different ways to do things I already did wrong or right will go back and do it right.
Salutari din Romania,m-am uitat la videoul tau si am facut si eu acelasi lucru,a iesit super.
With all honesty man you got some patients
Great job, excellent skill
You can put the cluster in the oven at 225 (low) for 15 mins and it will soften the glue and the glass will come off.
cool mod 👍🏻 - perfect candidate for airbrush
Very innovative and meticulous. A little OCD maybe, but well executed.
Looks nice I might do that now
Awesome DIY!
Wow nice job!
Obrigado, o seu video vai me ajudar a desmontar o meu painel que deu uma sujeira interna, eu estava com medo de desmontar mais acompanhando seus videos vou conseguir fazer, obrigado.
I have an F10 but I want an e90 just so I can do stuff like this... Awesome work
Great DIY!
can you still adjust the intensity of the backlight with those white LED's?
Thanks for the DIY, great video! What led bulbs did you go with?
That Freakin E30 Tho
I thought this was going to look like shit but it turned out very nice, great job
Nice video Looks nice.
Right now I’m trying to figure out how to retrofit or transplant an mk7 golf R gauges into an Mk7 gti. I found the golf R cluster gauges at a good price.
Hey great stuff. About the sharpie coloring.... I just got a e90 projector headlight, with the U DTM halos, but sadly its clear, and not the rgb ones. I would like to color it, but get a nice translucent effect through it. Can i use a Sharpie Red? Do you think it will last? Or do you suggest another more durable method of coloring, so that i dont have to be removing and touching up the colors every 6months. Let me know your thoughts.
Could you bake the cluster in the oven like doing headlights?
What is the spraypaint colour you use ? I put gray adhesive on mine (with the white LEDs). It does not look as bright as yours.
I also tried using the colour red on the numbers on my spedometer to give it a cool look. It did not work out, so I ended up taking out the red.
Hi what's the size and specs of them leds and where can I get them from ? Thanks
Grate job bro is this possible in the 2013 BMW 740
Gauges
Wow!!!! Props !!!!
Hey, you dont plan to change the radion and ac unit leds colors too? Trying to find information to change that too.
Unless I missed it how did u get the green and yellow at the bottom of gauges
I think the center square also looks different. And presents different info
looks professionally done, great job; i was waiting to see the cruise control though.
cody cato Thanks, good point. I'll throw up another video showing a gauage test so you can see how that looks.
Hi, where I can buy electric tools for led? And wich type of led is?
I thought the reason they were orange dull lights was so that driving at night for a length they don't annoy you with so much blue light?
My Lexus has a dimming knob to lower the brightness of the dash just for that reason. Kinda odd =P
Yep! Do it right the 1st time or don’t do it at all.
Question... In this video your kombi shows "D" and the number what gear u are on. I converted my stock "low" kombi to same as yours and mine showst just "D". Is there a way to turn that function on? I have a 6 speed trans.
Please post where you purchased the LEDs
I did this mod and now my gauges are not working. Do you know how to reset the cluster or how to have it working properly ?
Why you dont exchange LED diods for display on white? It looks way better. And good job btw.
I have spare cluster with blue led back light for 70 . Led I used is 3528 smd. Let me know if anyone interested
can you help do mine's?..
i'd have 2006 325i
Another question. I saw a lot of RUclipsrs use the oven to removes the glass from the headlight. Do you think if I use a cloth or something to covers it, and put some weights to the glass from inside, and kinda bake it like 100 degrees. Would you think it can be a easier way to remove that glass?
I don't think so, it's glued in permanently. Not like a headlight.
What temperature color did you use??
How much do you charge to do this?
Did you just say “sharpie mod”? 😂
Awesome video!!! How did you know the voltage and amps for the LED's? I have an F30, so mine may be different.
Thank you, I actually found that info on a forum. Perhaps someone with an F30s has already done this?
I have one more small question. When do you use the silver spray paint on the back dials did you use any type of gloss or protectant finish over it? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Can you show me how to reset the clock why you have this unit out of the car ?
I'm guessing you don't have iDrive? I always reset my clock through there, I've never done it via the gauge cluster. I'll see what I can do.
Looks so good. I hate the orange colour!
The 325i cluster needles are awful why you've transfered those to yours? Do you like them?
*EDIT:* Oh you paint them like an m3 😊😁😁
I really like it would you do it for me maybe if i send it to you and wait for you to send it back? And how much would it cost lol
So at the end what did you use to color needles?
Toni Biočić I used a red sharpie.
Do you have the ebay link for the silver rings? Cant find em
Try this ebay.to/2SPgbnv
That is a mission
excellent video! going to try to do the same :D
would you be so kind to provide some link from ebay because I am not able to find those rings for cluster
thank you very much
cro659 type it like this ‘BMW E90 Silver cluster rings Silver gauge rings Silver dashboard ABS’ it should appear on ebay
I like how you don’t use any gloves
I hope you can still help and answer this:
Do you have a link or model number for the LEDs used? Other ppl seem to want to know too. And would this work for the LCI E90s, in your opinion? Thank you!
Yeah you can find these all over eBay and Amazon. The LCI cluster is the same yes.
Type Chanzon 100 pcs 3528 (1210) White SMD LED Diode in to Amazon. I found them on UK amazon
Rob Lines thank you
lol can I just pay you to do this for me? I’ll send my own dashboard
Send 3 lol
Where to buy led ??
could you please give a link for the item to buy? like the m3 rim thing? I search on ebay, maybe I don't know whats it called
Jeff Wang Try this:
rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F272141337533
Vehicular DIY thank you so so so much!
You need to get a better soldering iron, it will be much easier to solder. Also you need to use flux, that way the solder will just flow onto the pads. The cluster looks sick though! I have an '07 335i
Yeah I used rosin core solder and a cheap soldering gun, a better soldering gun an flux would have helped for sure.
Thanks.
Yeah, rosin core is fine but it has just enough flux to melt the solder onto your iron, and it burns offin the first few seconds. A bit of flux on the pads will take off the oxide layer off them when you heat it. Also when you have so little room to work with and a big iron tip, you can use Kapton tape (it is a heat resistant tape) to protect the components around the led, so you don't damage them if you accidentally touch them with the iron. Like those plastic pins the needle attaches to. I'm surprised you managed to do it without melting the plastic.
Link to the leds ?
Dude can I just buy your cluster and give you mine as a core so you can do that shit again for u ? 🤪🤪 I don't really have that patience, I admire you
Good Job. But I think the Background is white not silver
Looks great mate. 1 important question for me before I attempt, the new leds you put in, do they dim when you lower the dash lighting level?
Rob Lines Hey thanks. Yes they still dim.
Vehicular DIY brilliant thanks. I've found those leds on Amazon so I'll be trying this soon. I was going to attempt all the leds in the buttons too so there are no orange light and instead I'm going to make them blue. I don't suppose you know whether they will be the same leds? No worries if you don't I've bought them anyway
Hey thanks, sorry I wouldn't be able to say for sure if they're the same type of LED.
Where did you buy the led's from?? Cause when I look it up I can't find the ones you bought?
I bought them on Amazon but you can find them on eBay as well.
Link to LED's on Amazon please? :)
Oleg you in UK? I bought mine off Amazon UK, type Chanzon 100 pcs 3528 (1210) White SMD LED Diode in to search
I'm in Canada. I found a link for the leds on amazon, what about the m3 red needles? And thanks btw
Rob Lines hi, I’m in the U.K. that’s what I thought to buy, but he said ultra white. Are these the same?
Very good. I'm from Brazil and I have a 335i 2011 and I wanted a very similar panel to this but in Brazil we do not have professionals that do it, want to make one of this for me and send me all the costs to buy the pieces and make big hugs
Hey! you're the same guy that did the ABS pump DIY?!
He has hella followers and e90 videos and x5s
Just finished mine, took me like 5h with painting and waiting to dry, and I've never had a solder iron in my hand, so if i could do it everyone can...but have a nasty issue, when i put the needles back, i missed the alignment for fuel gauge so i tried to align by pushing it the right direction by hand, felt like something became loose, like the needle lost any resistance when u move it by hand...managed to find some point when it felt stiff again, popped it off,and put it on so it would be aligned...and guess what...fuel gauge doesn't work, and i did the cluster test(hidden menu)...pls respond, maybe u have some knowledge of this, anyone, pls
When i think about it it could be when i pressed it in i used to much force and something popped out from a gear because there was a clicking sound:/
Took it out this morning, opened the white motor for fuel gauge and yes,it was a gear popped out,put it back and now its fine, just had hard time calibrating the speedo and fuel needles, every time i would plug/unplug electricity they would jump in a different position, same with the 4 screws at the back, was twisting it to get te screws in while pluged in,and again needles jumps off, so gave up with that, put it in without those screws, needles seem to be aligned now and all gauges work...hope my experience will help to those who will come :)
@@roland9637 Thank God someone else ran into this issue like me! I actually installed some custom gauges from Venoxy.com and when I plugged my cluster back into the car my gas and tachometer needles were off. I will take the cluster back apart and check the gears. Hopefully I can get it all sorted out.
@Rolands Berzins I just confirmed with my gauge needles that BMW has "spring" needles that need to be "clocked" as you put them back on! Basically there are two positions for reinstalling the needles: 1) A light press to hold them on and then spin them counter clock wise to "zero" 2) Press the needles firmly in at zero to set them in place. I did this with all 4 needles and started them half way through the ranges (4,000 RPM, 1/2 Tank, 80 MPH and 250 Degrees). After you firmly place them all at zero, they can all smoothly travel throughout the range and when you get back to "zero" the needles will not move past that point.
@@tcrc360 thanks for the reply, i still haven't fixed mine, i realised something was wrong with the spring, even when i carefully reassembled the gauge motor it still would not work properly, after few minutes jumping way out of normal range of travel, so far my plan was to get a cluster from a scrap yard and resolder the motor, but i still haven't done it, will try one more time following your advice. Thanks
No lights tho
i wouldn't do it but awesome job
Why don't you justvordervthe glass seperate
V W Not sure it could be ordered separately.
cool mod but a lot of work to get it done cheers 🍻
This is so cool I wish I can do it knowing me I probably would fuck everything up 😭🤣
Yeah it looks better but what a pain to do that
Okay so I'm confused- I see a Texas plate but you have a Canadian accent ?
Originally from there.
Didn't you adjust the gas needle so it sits at "0" when you turn the car off?
Looks awesome by the way. Had my gauge done too :) still trying to figure out a way to add a glowing ///M logo on the RPM gauge though!
What I did was took off the gas needle, then did a gauge test via INPA then once the it went back to the rest position I stuck the needle back on. It sits at zero now.
Thanks, nice! I think that could be easily done, if you cut out a square in the RPM gauge and stick a shine through ///M logo with a black background in over that square it would glow. Maybe I can play around with my spare cluster to see how hard that would be.
Vehicular DIY yeah that's what I was thinking too. maybe printing out an m logo on a transparent sheet but I thought maybe the light would shine through the black abit too. have a play when you can and let me know how it turns out!
Your voice Max Payne 2 😆
I would never do this. too extra but good job though. looks tough
It's *plastic* not -glass-
it must be awful to drive at night, that leds are much too bright
need!
I want the E30 m3
Fuel gauge was still wack
hey i'd like to rotate the tachometer on my e90 330i 90 degrees to the left, so redline is at 12 o'clock. is this possible or do i have to configure the circuit board like you did?
Interesting idea, given it's one big circuit board at the back I don't believe it would be possible unfortunately.
Great job man💪👌 but I rather pay $200-$240 for a used M3 and code it
Really all thia work just m3 cluster when the car is not m3 really.. such a headace but eh kudos to u
Nobody sane will ever do this...if it was a bulb or something yes but to spray there ecc no thanks
nah bro this is not it lmao jujst but the cluster and code it in😭
Who the hell is gonna do all this.
He did.
Had to turn the volume down to watch... Between the smacking of lips, your voice, and you breathing I was about to shoot myself... Other than that it was a great video
