    If Tavares signs with Tampa, you know Kevin Durant will sign there next season too.

    The Media in Toronto on sports in extensive, but as a Torontonian I can tell you Leafs players don't get mugged on the streets of Toronto, sure at the rink people are looking for autographs. Time and place my friend, but over the years I've seen dozens of Leafs player out an about walking around downtown Toronto, from Kadri to Sundin to Clark to Gilmour to Kaberle, I once even seen Borje Salming on Sherbourne St just after his freak accident. People in Toronto from my observation have always just been kind and smile as they pass them by. Never once in my 40years as a Leafs fan, felt the need to act like some teenage girl at a music concert. The way some people carry on about how people are from Toronto, is absurd. Tavares can visit anyone of the numerous rooftop bars in Toronto, no one will mug him for autographs. Player's that have left Toronto, have no reason to kiss our ass; and yet they have nothing but good things to say about Toronto Fans. Player's often use the Media bias because they don't want to come to Toronto, and it's just easier and not offensive to the fans of Toronto to blame the Media. We're not buying it, I have a laundry list of Star player who came to Toronto; some earned rings before they came to Toronto and some after they left. Toronto has a World Class organization, and the players who do finally, Yes Finally win the Cup for the Leafs. Will be immortalized, in praise; in song, cheer, banner and probably even in Statue. But, we'll still just smile and or say "Hello" as we pass you on the street.

      Sweety Loz Agreed. The media hypes it up to be more than it really is. You'll get people saying hi, you'll attract some attention, but mostly you're left alone.

      Very nicely said, all I have to add is apparently they brought John a #91 Leafs jersey with the "C" to the meeting. I thought that was a nice touch, he has to be tempted to play here with this special generation of players.

    • @tylergodspeed82
      @tylergodspeed82 6 лет назад +1

      You have a laundry list of star players who came to Toronto? I’d like to see that list. And no, a washed up Ron Francis or a broken down Eric Lindros don’t count.

    • @douglasc1388
      @douglasc1388 6 лет назад

      Tyler Godspeed you could say the 2001-2002 squad which choked hard lol

    • @Torontogal1973
      @Torontogal1973 6 лет назад +1

      @Tyler Godspeed Lets start in Goal, Fuhr- Belfour -Joseph [Belfour and Joseph played amazing for the Leafs].Just from the 1993 season on in no particular order, Gilmour, Andreychuk, Sundin, Phaneuf, Kessel, Leetch, Housley, Gartner, Anderson, Mogilny, Nieuwendyk, Roberts.. Yes, there were other player's who didn't excel in Toronto. But, Toronto often was in the hunt with many teams; and the Leafs were able to bring them to Toronto. Players like Francis/Lindros/Francis/O'Neil/Murphy ect ect.. Sure the Leafs just went through one of the worst slides in franchise History. But, those days are over; Toronto once had the ability to get the players they went after. On paper, and the numbers they put up last year. Most points/most wins at home. Longest winning streak in franchise history, a span of 2Months where the Leafs didn't lose at home. This in a year where Matthews missed 20games. FYI, Toronto had the exact winning record as Washington did this year. So for those who think Toronto isn't good enough to win the Cup, what more could they possibly do to prove this is a great young team. Adding Tavares, would be like when Kessel went to Pittsburgh. I knew that's all they needed to put them over the top. Tavares would do the same for the Leafs, San Jose hasn't won any Cups lately or ever for that matter. Tampa Bay already has huge financial commitments, and would have to tap dance to offer Tavares a long term contract. Vegas is the same story, they think they have Cap room. Until they start signing people, and that money is going to dries up like the Nevada Desert. Personally, I think Tavares will either stay on Long Island or come to the Leafs; yes he has options. But the Leafs is guaranteed money, and if that means the Leafs have to make Cap space for 7-8years. Then I think Bozak, and Komarov are on there way out. Johnsson is ready to make the jump from the Marlies. Does Tavares come to Toronto? Well see. About 70% chance for the Leafs. 30% for the Islanders that he'll resign and a next to zero% chance that Tavares ends up somewhere else.

  • @jimmyzeke13
    @jimmyzeke13 6 лет назад +16

    I don't think Tampa has the cap space to sign Tavares. And if they do, they certainly won't next year, when Kucherov's new contract is due.

    • @John-mp6km
      @John-mp6km 6 лет назад

      If they do end up signing him, they won't have the money for Kucherov or Hedman. So kiss those two goodbye.

    • @mymonkeyman11
      @mymonkeyman11 6 лет назад +3

      Yuri Tarded Hedman is re signed for 7 more seasons. Buy out Callahan (save almost 4 mill) trade killorn (4mill) trade Johnson (5 mill). Boom 13 million + their already 10 mill in space. I don't think they should do it but still, totally possible

      Yuri Tarded Well lets say they get rid of Callahan, Killorn, Johnson, Coburn & Girardi as well as the Matt Carle buy out being almost done (2mil a year) they'd have a core of Stamkos, Kucherov, Tavares, Point, Palat, Hedman, Sergachev, McDonagh & Vasilevskiy. You have to just fill the bottom half with cheap deals but I still think that's a cup winner

      It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback when it comes to predictions in sports. I made that comment well before he had narrowed down his list of teams, and when virtually every other team in the league thought they had a chance at signing him. San Jose was one of the final two teams he chose from. And frankly I think he would have done better to sign with SJ who fit his style of playlet better, at the time anyway. Now they‘ve got a whole host of issues. Point is I was pretty damn close with that prediction.

His 15mill dollar up front theory doesnt work cause it still doesnt even out to be enough money if frontloaded. even if they did that he'd have to be making 9-9.5 annually (not his proposed 7 mill cause that would mean he signed for under 10 mill annually which is unrealistic as hell). He will need to take discount to go to Tampa. Yzerman made Hedman, Stamkos and Kucherov all take discounts citing the lack of state tax in Florida. I think it could cause locker room tension if Tavares cap hit exceeds Stamkos 8.5M AAV. Islanders offer is 8 years 88M which might still be more money overall even after taxes.

    Tavares is more reclusive and does not want to have all the attention in a huge market. Yes, being in New York is a bigger market, but he is on the 2nd team, not in Manhattan, and he can walk around with many not knowing him. Even the ones who know him probably don't berate/bother him as badly as he would be in a Canadian market.

    I love how they were complaining about that there was too much talk about Stamkos when he was about to hit free agency.... But aren't they doing the exact same thing with Tavares at the moment like the other guys did some years ago when Stamkos was about to hit the market? I usually like tim&sid but I think that the Islanders have by far the best chance to resign Tavares for various reasons. A: 8 year deal b: they got the cap space c: they just brought in a Coach who won a stanley cup last year and a very talented gm who already made impact in his first months d: young prospects like barzal e: New arena... So tell me a good reason why he should leave

      D Junker I doubt that very much. He wanted to stay in Tampa. Talk about Stamkos started much earlier than JT. Toronto scared him, he didn't want endorsements, he was checking salaries not pr work.

      They weren't that biased did you even watch the video what they said all made sense. It's plain and simple if he comes to the Leafs and they win the cup he will be a legend, a hero of this entire city along with his glorious teammates and it will possibly be one of the greatest event in NHL and Toronto history bar none. He could be that guy that he wished someone take the Leafs to win the Stanley Cup when he was screaming and cheering for the Leafs as a kid. He could even have a greater legacy than Sittler, Clark, Guilmor, Sundin, and other great Leafs in the past. He probably won't come to the Leafs and other teams can offer just as much money and Stanley Cup contention as the Leafs do, but the fact of the matter is none of those cities will give him a legacy comparable as Toronto.

    Stamkos is making 8.5 mil a year, Hedman makes just under 8 mil and Kucherov is due for a raise next year, which means Tavares would have to take an 8 mil salary. Those are 4 world class players taking up almost half your cap space! Not going to happen. The top 3 chances go to the Islanders, San Jose and Boston.

    If Tavares is going to re-sign with the Islanders, then why test the free agent market? Why even meet with other teams? The Islanders have made their pitch, and if the money and term we've been hearing is accurate, it's a very generous offer from NY. If he is really the "low key" type of guy people say he is, then why drag this out any longer than it needs to be? I'm not predicting a specific team, but I think he is at least curious to see what other fit might make more sense for him than the Islanders. Let's be real, they aren't winning any cups anytime soon.

      Joe Blythe he’s being diligent. This is a huge life decision for him and so, even if he’s leaning towards re-signing in NY, he would be doing himself a disservice to not at least consider the other options.

    I think that Toronto Makes sense for JT because Toronto offers something no other team does. A stanley cup contender that Joining would give him a lifetime of AD revenue that will far exceed any money any of the teams can offer him. That being said I don't think it makes sense for Toronto. The reason is this, we have wingers, we have goaltending, with Nylander we have the centres we need. What we don't have is any Defense. I'm not talking OD's like Gardiner, he's a piece we have that we can do something with but we need a shut down D that can play with him and clean up the mess. We need 3 Shut down defensemen and that is the most important need we have right now. Everyone is talking about replacing JVR but if you cut off the other team's ability to score why do we need to score 7 goals a game. We have scoring depth. We have wingers. We have to address defense and now not in 2-3 years when our draft picks do or don't pan out.
    Forward
    Hyman, Matthews, Brown
    Marleau, Kadri, Marner
    Leivo, Nylander, Kapanen
    Johnsson, Moore, Bracco/Martin
    Defense
    Reilly, Holl? (maybe?)
    Gardiner, Carrick
    Dermott, Loverde? (maybe?)
    Zaitsev is a right side OD which is something we don't need and He's horrifyingly bad as a DD. Good piece for a team that needs and OD with a big upside. Hainsey is great for defensive depth but he can't keep up and he is definitely not who we need him to be where we need him to be.

      except he isnt going to either cause for toronto to get tavares they'd need to dump marner. even in his hypothetical scenario the math doesnt add up. His scenario would mean tavares signed a deal for 7 years less than 10 mill a year. Tavares is looking for 10.5-11.5+, matthews is going to demand a minimum of what eichel got which was 10 mill flat, and marner is gonna be looking for 8.5-9.5.
