A little Les Paul/SG correction: Les Paul didn't "hate" the new body shape of the LP guitars; Les preferred the classic single cut shape because it felt more sturdy. Les' name was removed after 1963 due to his contract ending with Gibson while he was in mid divorce with Mary Ford (re-signing with Gibson would only complicate the divorce). In 1964, the new LP guitars got the new name "SG", then when Les came back on board with Gibson in 1968, the demand for the single cut was gaining momentum and they re-released it with Les' name on it again. However, the "SG" was so popular by that time with it's own fan base, they kept the SG as a stand alone guitar and the rest is history. Fun fact: The 1961 Les Paul (SG body shape) is THE ONLY Gibson guitar that has been produced every single year since it's inception!!!!!!
Thanks for telling the truth, Les had his name removed because he didn't want Mary Ford to get any more of his money. She was also a part of the Gibson endorsement deal. The deal said that they couldn't be seen in public with anything but Gibson guitars. If you look back at olp footage and pictures Mary Ford played a white 61 or 62 Les Paul custom with gold hardware
trog would for sure have some doubts about the authenticity surrounding the "unpublished video" and the whole "see the autograph? its definitely the same:" thats a big red flag

It was only halfway through 58 that they started making the burst which the first half being gold tops. They certainly weren’t magic just guitars that were cheap at the time since no one wanted them and since one guy played it and someone else liked it it stuck.
@@agcacustoms2852 The bursts had (and still have) maple tops though, the body of the custom was all mahogany, the fretboard was also made out of ebony instead of rosewood. That said, they're mostly identical (I don't buy into the whole tonewood nonsense).
Sounds awesome. That's a treasure
Im pretty sure you can see Kirk playing this guitar live at the famous Seattle 1989 show during the song Sanitarium!
