You’ve done a great job of designing your process around the BX, the wood yard and storage. It all comes down to working with what ya got. Nicely done. Good stuff.
Nice video bud! One thing you could do to save some time is stop stacking. Don't cut out the front of the tote just toss it in loosely. A full tote, loosely tossed in is 1/2 a face cord...or 1/6 of a cord if you prefer. To dump the tote into your trailer you have to do some tote-gymnastics but by not stacking, you save a bunch of time. Will be interesting to see how it dries out of the elements. If you put a squirrel fan or something on it, I bet it dries pretty fast!
Looks good Sam, I use the 1/6th cord bags they work great about all my little loader can lift abt 6-7$ a piece and last 3ish uses before they degrade. Totes are more like 40-50 in my area and take up too much space when empty for my setup. Good video keep it up!
@Jackstraw911 Thank you! The excavator would certainly lift anything in that barn. However, it belongs to my brother and if he needs it, I'd be left with totes too full to move. Someday I'll have a machine that'll move a full tote 🤠👍
@Wayne-fu9qz Thank you! I'm just in the process of turning my firewood hobby into a business. There's a lot of thought going into it and I appreciate everyone's suggestions and help 🙏 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff By the way,I'm looking for a RUclips partner for a brand, I don't know if you're interested? The name is Proyama, and it is a product of chain saws and leaf blowers...
I have a chart list, and I number all my baskets, and I also mark down what is in it and when I split it, I like the way that works for me. I am set up similar to you, I do mine as 1/4 cord baskets. good video
Thank you! I love the numbered baskets and chart idea! I might steal that 🤔 when I can manage full baskets I'll be able to stack them and I should be able to fit 16 cords in the barn 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff mine are all outside, I cover the tops only individually with a small tarp so I can move the independently (keep them in rows 4 deep) Also mine are smaller homemade baskets and the 1/4 cord is rounded, so rain and snow do not build up.
Great video Sam. I think with all firewood processing it is a case of evolution rather than revolution. It also comes down to available manpower, equipment and volumes like you have highlighted. Great job 👏
Looks like you have worked out what is best for you. As you mentioned several times other people have different circumstances and will have different processes.
Good morning Sam. I like how you work smarter, not harder. You're doing it the best way you can with the resources you have. Hopefully one day you will have a bigger tractor to make it even easier. But until then, the little tractor is holding it's own. Do you think you will invest in a sawmill some day? Milling your own lumber would be a plus for your farm and maybe another source of income. Just a thought. As usual, love your channel. Stay safe and keep doin stuff. GOD bless.
Thank you! That is EXACTLY where my head is... maximizing my efficiency with the tools I already have. Newer, better equipment will seamlessly plug into the system and either increase output or increase efficiency... or maybe even both! 🤠👍
Morning buddy all your info is the best you do what’s best for you thr idea is to makes sense for you make easy and make profit I have issue with my back and I Use a back brace nothing expensive made from polyester I purchased on Amazon works great to assist picking up and bending. Safety is what counts.when cut tin and spiting the wood standing in same place the back does get a little stiff that’s why it help’s another great video combing common sense
Thank you! That is a very good idea, however, the excavator belongs to my brother and there's no telling when he'll want to use it. When it's gone, I'd be left with full baskets and no way to move them. There's a $10k plan for moving those totes. Hope i sell a bunch of firewood next season 🤠👍
Heck yea I love it. So your only moving rounds once and stacking split wood. So your still only Handling the wood twice. You will be happy until it’s time to spend more money. Keep at it my friend. You will be happy with the indoor drying. I was thinking clear roof panels the sun would help dry that oak. Side note I have a plan for a retractable roof so I can grow indoors and still use the climate to grow. Would also be a good idea for firewood. If the tops are covered the wood won’t change color. Maybe the ends witch looks pretty cool.
Thank you! I really appreciate that you understand when the tractor does the lifting, it doesn't count as "handling the wood". That retractable roof has me intrigued 🤔 Good luck! 🤠👍
It’s good you season your wood for two years when is lived in Pa the places that sold firewood did not season it that long and some places you were lucky if it was seasoned for 6 months .I was lucky my wood stove could burn anything and there was a tree guy who would dump trees in there yard and you could go get what you wanted .But it was a pick through it was all species of trees there .
I have heard that too many times. I also moisture test it before I sell it. Ash, maple, cherry can get there in 6 months, but even those species, I like to sit for a year. 🤠👍
Thank you! Great question. The barn will hold all 24 cages. But, that's only 4 cords. When I can lift a full cage, it will be able to stack them and that would be 48 cages. Plus, if the cages are full, that would be 16 cords. 🤠👍
Did you ever consider getting a used ( cheaper) bigger tractor and fixing it up for your use are you familiar with the channel “Andrew Camerata” he does that ? Just a thought, it could also be another video on fixing it
Not a bad idea. Im looking at an electric, all terrain powered pallet jack that would not only manage a full basket of firewood, but also allow me to deliver them. It's $10k so i need to sell a bunch of firewood next season 🤠👍
@jamesallen712 That is very true. I do have the other barn, and there is space. However, it's definitely not enough. I'm going to have to have a place for a bulk pile of mixed. That's rattling around in my brain 🤠👍
