The gasoline is mixing with the oxygen.
In this carousel, the silence is so surreal.
I've been misled down empty streets to the heart that never beats
Of a body that I can't keep.
We're blessed with these horrors for highways.
This city turns, no longer content to just brush shoulders.
Have we lost our touch?
A light goes on.
We throw our blankets aside.
It's been hours now and we still know nothing.
The scars just don't heal the same, when we collide.
I'd never say that we step to the other side to keep us from brushing shoulders.
But it's collisions we need to remind us that we're alive.
I'd never say that you make me sick, but you're turning all the questions to cancers.
Someone call in the emergency and we'll peel back the dressings so we can see
The kind of things that the surgeons see,
When the bloodwork won't give us the answers.
They'll never tell us, because they don't know whats killing us.
My heart's at a million miles an hour as we brace for the impact,
It makes time stand still, forcing momentum into a moment
So for a split second, I see your face
In between all the broken glass, hanging like a mobile.
This is a picture we'll never quite forget.
The surgeons pick, they pick at my body.
Their fingers dance, they dance all around me.
Hold still while they pick at my body.
They'll dance all around me.
Breathe your anaesthetic words to slow us down.
Tear back the skin to find, to chase a pulse back home.
11 years later & this song still hits the same.
Shits too hard. I can't stop.
@@i8764theKevassitant it hits infinitely harder for me than it did when i first found it. its probably the years of adult hood and further understanding. Ive always said that HLH does way too good of a job with their lyrics.
@robertmills3462 I without any hesitation give credit to hands like houses for getting me getting off of fentanyl pills. When I was kicking I'd listen to don't look now and fountainhead and the lyrics and symphonic band just filled me with drive and hope. Last Friday I met 2 of my states senators and the us secretary of energy as a sort of representative of my employer. I listened to fountainhead and 5 htp by intervals on a loop the half hour leading up to the meeting and news walk through. I've been clean about 16 months and this music has undisputedly given me the drive and optimism to make all of my aspirations come to fruition.
I took infinity from the sky and I made it my own.
FIREEEEEEEEEEE I remember release I was like 233rd view
12 years later and id still kill to hear them play this live
Dude can't sing live for shit, sad facts...
case in point; ruclips.net/video/Wx_zmbdWh10/видео.html&ab_channel=TheRealConcertKing
His "scerams" are on fricking point though, fair play for that
There's plenty of examples of live vocals much better than his - but this guy has a similarish tone? Kassim from Alazka, shame they broke up a few years ago, their album "phoenix" is just incredible

Jonny Craig...Probably one of the most talented singers of all time, wasted by drugs and other issues

I’ve seen them live . Video on my channel
Everyone is comparing this song or band to someone else and is overlooking the immense story behind the song. There are so many metaphors and paradoxes that they are singing about but no one picks up on it. It takes two souls to break the laws of mathematics and science. the will to live can only be eliminated by some force other than ourselves, in this case, a broken heart from someone he truly loved. the doctors say he is perfectly fine but the soul defies that conclusion and will still die. Love is the ultimate law of the universe and if we cannot share it or are too ignorant to notice it and appreciate it then all hope is lost. This song is legendary, and pure genius. Well done.
Thank you!!!
Thank You soooo much, ive been waiting for someone to explain the exact meaning behind it.
I could honestly differentiate Hands Like Houses from other bands idk
finally!!!!! AMEN
.
We had something really special with Ground Dweller and Unimagine. The fact that they strayed away from their original sound and style is nothing short of a tragedy. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The first album was rage
Fuck forgot how good these guys are. Their old stuff was more my vibe than the new, but god damn how good it was.
Thats putting it nicely, their old stuff is 1000 times better & less generic than the new stuff
Hands Like Houses is one of those bands whose songs you can picture yourself doing a kickass redemption battle montage to.
Everyone is talking about the meaning of the song, I'm at the edge of my chair eyeing the keyboardist for headbanging and admiring his determination,
corona quarantine has this song hitting different
Lol I was thinking the samething.
I love this band's drum work they have a good drummer
+Luke Robertson Matt Parkitny
+Luke Robertson i agree, their drum work is so great to listen to
agreed great drummer also been loving the chicken drummer from danger kids these bands stay on my Playlist
The kick drum is mesmerizing at 1:23 on act normal original
Worst feeling in the world is living through these lyrics
"A light goes on.
We throw our blankets aside.
It's been hours now and we still know nothing.
We still know Nothing!!!!!"
I lived through that when I first heard this song while sitting in a hospital waiting room. Still remember it like it was yesterday.
People complain about generic bands, and now this band is here for the listening people don't respect it. THIS BAND IS A SAVOIR FOR RISE, easily one of Rise's best bands. Everyone get behind this amazing Australian band and support them.
THEY NEED MORE VIEWS!! They are a wonderful band, such fresh talent, and great down to earth guys. I wish they had more recognition.
this song bring back so many memories. I love this song. after finally seeing them live for the first time In 3 years I can say his voice isn't autotunned. it just pure talent. the other members are just as good. Matt drummed like a beast. he had one mess up but that didn't stop trenton from going. this band has just been the greatest thing for the passed three years. I will always love them. it is amazing how after 3 years this song still sounds like a masterpiece. I wish everyone could feel the way I do when I hear any of their songs. they are 5 genuine down to earth guys who love music and love spreading a message. go to one of their concerts, buy their albums and merch. all that money Is going to these talented friends which helps them make more music like this. in the end enjoy this band now. if this is your first time listen to every song. and really understand the meaning of the songs, sing and headbang to them. just never take them for granted. #DissonantForever
I kind of know what you mean like I heard of these guys just over a year ago (through a random youtube mix surprisingly) and i fell in love instantly the lyrics just go right through me shivers chills and all and I've recently seen them live (so worth taking time off work to do so) and i was so blown away by the fact he uses no auto tune for small fixes and out of all the shows I've been to over the years that one was one of my fav ones by far
When they came to Canada two of the members couldn't make it in so they did an acoustic show and it was fantastic.
They are literally the only band I've ever bought merch for just cuz of how much I love them. Trenton came out as I was buying it and genuinely thanked me for buying the hat and even signed it for me!! These guys are the best, brings me back to senior year of high school when they were one of the only bands I listened to.
14 years and still fresh as hell. I've probably heard this song a thousand times. Never gets old.
Lol just threw out my ancient blanket yesterday... Its odd how the right music finds me when i most need it.
These perfect little aussies. They were such an inspiration to me musically, and this stuff is still perfect all these years on.
i really wish their new stuff was more like this.
keep dreaming like me
They're so generic and bland now...it's sad
100 percent agree. I hate their new stuff.
We can only pray, but I can’t see them doing anything like these masterpieces again unfortunately
They say they’re making the stuff they want to make. They always have, and that’s why each and every album is VASTLY different. Trenton says he and the band writes about how they feel in that moment, so any kind of music from them seems possible. They are very unpredictable as a band because they change so often.
The recent change I feel also has to do with their contention with where they are as a band, so it’s like a calm within the storm.
Also, I’m sure touring has had a toll on them all, but most notably Trenton. If you go back and listen to their old live videos it seems like he hits the notes much easier, and doesn’t have as much trouble with voice cracks and the like. I mean they’re not 22 anymore haha. They’re all in their 30’s and with the maturity and experience they’ve gained they’ve always chosen to take new routes in their music. I doubt they’ll ever go back to being this heavy, but they could. It just may take another toll on Trentons voice, sadly.
Good band. Good voice. The voice in a way sounds similar to the guy from panic at the disco... the way he sings. Very talented indeed. Good range and skills of changing his voice back and forth.
Another take I have found in the message of this story is about Life and the collisions of life that harms us but no body can see the injuries left on our hearts and souls and minds. It can be a good message for people who are struggling with mental disorders where no one can diagnose their problems or help them figure out what's wrong. People with mental disorders struggle and have internal injuries that don't show up on your xrays or scans or bloodwork. I have found a lot of closure in my life and feel people might understand what others are going through and this song is a message of that. If it weren't for this band and the messages of their music, I would have believed myself to be alone in so many ways. A lot of my friends who have mental disorders as well have said this song brings them comfort in knowing that people might actually understand the everyday struggles and collisions we all face.
THIS IS ART ALL AROUND
12 years later and it’s getting better and better every time I listen to this masterpiece!!!
A great song. It’s aged well to me.
Wish they kinda stuck to this post hardcore style
They bouncy guitar/ epic drums/ and occasional chugging.
Kinda reminds me of Emarosa’s first album.
Met these guys yesterday and had a full on conversation with Alexander, and he gave me hugs and took pictures with me and autographed my stuff, honestly the nicest guys and they are amazing live!
It's ridiculous how good this is.
1:15
I wish their new material had the same experimental elements like they did on this album.
The key sitting in the fishbowl is a cool foreshadowing. It's keeping the fish and flower pedals alive and fresh and it turned Trenton into a real boy.
Dude, you just dropped the 'cool story bro' line. You have no room to talk about things that have been done a thousand times.
People think of this music video too linearly. Imagine for a moment that this song sings of two stories instead of one. You have two people who used to know each other, but drifted apart. Let's assume they were childhood friends, but due to unforeseen circumstances the girl had to move away. Years go by, they eventually lose contact with each other, but continue to live their own lives. One day she gets a phone call, and it turns out the boy got into a horrific accident, one that the doctors weren't able to bring him back from. She hurries to his childhood home, finding the doors unlocked and the house mostly broken down and empty, aside from a few specific things that she remembers from their childhood together. The emotional scarring hurts, but at the same time it helps her to reconnect with him, even in death.
Its so sad to see HLH today. their first 2 albums, Are what i would call. Fairytale Rock. It was written lyrically and composed together with its own fantastical identity. like How panic! at the disco was cabaret pop. But just like them, sound changes into something commercial. band members leave. the Fairy tale ends
It crushes me when a band steps backwards from the unique identity they built. Its screams that they’re tired and sapped of inspiration.
@@shatteredscryground dweller has aged into an epic album for me.
They nailed the post hardcore sound without being overly reliant on breakdowns.
I enjoy the unorthodox song structure on this album. Reminds me of Emarosa’s Relativity
Yeah I was just showing my friend how amazing this band was in the beginning & I picked a random new song of theirs & the chorus was so generic it killed me. They were really something else on their first 2 albums. Almost feels like we were bait & switched
@@dlrsnate5100Its because the same producer produces a lot of the really good rise records albums. Cameron Mizell also produced the first woe is me album, the Of Machines album. Hes a master of the breakdowns with electronic sounding elements added to it
You are spot on!!! It's hard to replicate that type of magic but I love this first album and I love this song...😊
While I still love and respect HLH for continuing to make music and change up their style, I'm personally gonna stick to Dissonants and everything before it. ESPECIALLY THIS! This first album was such a nice mess of unique song structures and overdone layers, and as messy as it gets, that's what makes it beautiful.
@Frank Marano Maybe they got bored even though Dissonants was like THE perfect sound for them. They had metalcore-like breakdowns in unexpected places and it was just so awesome. They're still good though, just in a different way now.
Holy shit! All soft vocals & no screams & they so pulled it off, breakdown & all. Love it!!!!
This is really the only band out of like SWS, Woe, Issues, Palisades, etc. that I can stand to listen too. They are miles ahead of them. They have the talent and know exactly how to use it. Frickin love them.
Miss when music in general was this good, god damn
also 6 piece bands are my favorite in my opinion
you got vocals
drums
bass guitar
rhythm guitar
lead guitar
and keyboards so it's just the best combination in the world to me
Just remembered this song. Fell in love all over again! ❤️
The chuggyness of the chorus always has me coming back and listening to the song like 10 times in a row and thoroughly listening to try and pick apart the layers.
For reals// there’s a lot going on in this song . And that’s what’s good
@@dlrsnate5100and Trenton was an absolute poet on these first albums. The last verse of this song is just so original sounding, can't get enough of these guys.
The chorus alone is so chalked full of personal meaning that you can feel it. Their best song IMO.
A rise band with lyrics that aren't generic who'dve thought
+TYFLOL yes
Spoke too soon, even though they’re not with Rise anymore lol
@@amkren4158 aye bro, old HLH still lives in our post hard-core hearts.
They have def come into their own sound and Trenton has def found his own vocal style.
after leaving The Avengers, Steve Rogers started a experimental rock band to showcase his singing voice
After his contract with Marvel is over. Chris Evans joins HLH
As an American kid, I spent time being sick in Australia. It was later in life I was cab driver and one of my customers was from an Australian band called Hands like houses. I played a cd of The saints first self titled album.
An Australian band heavy on the guitars and synth with completely clean vocals? Yeah, man, that sound's been done a thousand times. Especially on Rise.
Throwback to my high school days. I love this entire album ❤️ Amazing live too.
I wasn't sure about this band when I first heard them, but the more I listen the more I am convinced they are quite talented. I love the different styles mixed in here. Reminds "D.R.U.G.S." with some You Me At Six and an overload of melody that still blends perfectly.
Never have I had goosebumps due to a song other than this one...amazeballs
"And he never says that"
I met Trenton after PTV in Manchester and he was so sweet, when he was my arms he told me I am beautiful and he loves me so much and gave me the biggest hug ever and he was so lovely!
Listening back to Ground Dweller is awesome.
HLH nailed the post hardcore sound on that album.
The guitar work/ epic drums/ unorthodox song structure/ cool song titles
I'm stuck in 2012, when bands link hands like houses made albuns like Ground Dweller
i can listen to this and my ears dont hurt from screaming i love it
"It's been hours now and we still know nothing." That part though...
HLH are the most complete band on Rise at the moment - And they are Aussie!!! You Bloody Beauty!
anybody that won any music related award this year is lucky not many people know of hands like houses
This song makes me want to to watch this music video 485,320 more times because it deserves a million views.
"The surgeons pick, they pick at my body.
Their fingers dance, they dance all around me."
Gives me chills everytime
My my my, how 4 years fly.
+Hemorapker touche
flaabawabajabanoonga touche
Six years later...
In deed...
Try 12. 😳
No matter how many times I listen to this song it still a great song
They're great live, too. I had never heard of them until I saw them on the PTV tour and now this is my favorite song.
seen them on october 16 ... i went to see my two favorite bands and then fell in love with this band... been listening to them constantly !!!
Lol who else can't get enough of 1:15?
Best part of the song!
A million heads banged that moment
Worst part tbh
TYFLOL I agree.
TYFLOL I disagree. That part was awesome.
One of the best band ever since 2006!
This is still fire in 2019
MrGoldenMoose hell yeah it is lol
even in 2020
This is still fire in 2020 hahahah
Yes because their new music is not much worth listening, this is way better
dude. every time. those guitar spins and shit always get me. I think it's so badass when people do that shit.
From 1:15 onward, the drums are just awesome. First time I heard of this song was June of 2012 while listening to Pandora on my phone in the waiting room while my grandma was in surgery. To this day this song reminds me of that day. The surgeons removed the cancer and my grandma is STILL cancer free. But my heart sank when another surgeon had to tell a family their grandmother wasn't so lucky. It still haunts me.
I love Unimagine, but Ground Dweller is just fucking insane!
2012 Trenton: hawt
2013 Trenton: hawt
2016 Trenton: FUCKING SLAY ME

Whati like about hands like houses is theres no screams, which makes them unique in the metlacore/rock genre
I'm really digging this. It's got heavy down tuned guitars, yet it's experimental and very melodic and lacks screaming. It's refreshing to hear something new in the Core genres. With great singing might I add. I'm definitely getting this album!!
It's hard to find hardcore/post-hardcore bands that DON'T use screams/harsh vocals in their stuff, not that it's bad. Incredible song!
The breakdowns make me moist
Wish they would go back to this heavier sound for another album.
It’s an absolute shame they went away from this style of music.
yea but now we have Valiant Hearts and Galleons also
This and Lion Skin were the first I’ve heard from these guys, way before they even debuted their first album and those were pretty much their only two remotely popular songs. The sounds in this song and the rest of their music is just incredible; real fucking art
Something about the final scene always brushes my heart strings a certain way!
it sucks that they are so underrated .-.
With almost a million views?
Eric Learman It took awhile for them to get there though...
ElegantSkies Try counting to a million and see if you can get there faster.
I didn't say anything about counting, so I'm not sure what you mean by that, lol. My point was that compared to other bands and artists, they get millions of views in a few days or less. HLH gets 900k views in 2 years. o;
He means, it takes a long time to count to a million. On RUclips, though, a million views is nothing. They should be way more popular.
If Garret Rapp and Drake Bell had a child
I challenge anyone to find a band or singer who writes as great lyrics AND sings this well, or a singer who sings this well AND writes such poetic lyrics. This is beyond impressive.
The thing I really like about this band is that they play post hardcore really well without the screams. I wouldbt consider them screamo because they don't use screaming in their music. They play what they play, and it's very enjoyable. Hope to see them soon :)
How does sws get so much praise but bands like this go with 1.6 mil views on a 4 year old song, and a classic at that.
I completely agree, a lot of there songs are masterpieces but sws is getting millions of views on their songs. kinda frustrating tbh..
I think it's because these guys don't sound like they're 12?
Because Sleeping with Sirens is pop. This is punk
Where in this song do you hear PTV or SWS? Not that there's anything wrong with those bands but some of you people act like their the only bands in the genre which is far from true. PTV sounds much more melancholy and dark/depressing and SWS is far more angsty/soft depending on what album you're talking about. And I forget this lead singers name, but is voice is nowhere near as high as Vic's or Kellin's and he has a much larger vocal range. Out of all the bands I listen to, HLH has to be one of the most original. I've never heard anything like them and can't think of single band that sounds like them. I don't even know what genre to classify them as? Rock, obviously, but not metal, post-hardcore, punk, pop-punk, etc.
Spotify refers to them as Post-Hardcore so that is what I go with
dat_1_kid How about alternative rock?
M. Azrardy Anandita eh. thats such a broad catergory
+dat_1_kid The closest thing to them is Emarosa really.
+Matt Nowak (MNFFC) this stuff yeah but their more recent songs, not really
Man I don't wanna trash HLH because they are an amazing band but the music they make now will never compare to Ground Dweller or even Unimagine or Dissonants..
Perfect album. Perfect voice and music. Hope this guys will continue make amazing music
I love this kind of music where the scream, but these guys PROVE that you don't need to do it to still sound absolutely amazing...
This is a gòd band post-hardcore without scream or growl
Why does music have to be a matter of "this sounds sounds like ____", anyway? Why not just judge it for what it is?
agreed all criticism fall right off freacking love this song!
OptimistNic Because people are dumb.
ikr
Because human beings are excellent at recognizing patterns. If Band A sounds like Band B, people will notice, say so and judge it. People often say that Chevelle sounds like Tool. Ya know, they're not wrong. There's similarities to be sure. In my opinion, they more closely resemble Helmet.
This has nothing to do with "because people are dumb", it has to do with uptight twats like you not liking that their favorite band isn't so unique anymore.
High horse, off, now.
Watching this after monster it's so dificult... I'm gonna miss their sound :(
Remember listening to this 8 years ago, still hits hard 😤
Holy shit! I am totally speechless and blown away, Thank you for restoring my belief that rock still rocks!
If you like Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, A Day To Remember, Hands Like Houses, All Time Low, or any bands like them then please look up my band Defy You Stars! We're on youtube, itunes, rhapsody, facebook, and more! Help us make our dreams of playing music for millions come true!
I heard your song "Memories"; I'm hooked already! "Life is only beautiful, when you're lying next to me." :)
At the beginning I wasn't able to imagine I'd love it, and take a look at myself now I'm spreading this myself personally!
*watch?v=el3cHidIiAU*
Damn, I really like it!
You'll want to youtube that video
this band is actually really good
That keyboard though>>>
Cherry street Hey! that pic...
***** Alex grey ftw!
lol dont campare these dudes to ptv and sws sorry he doesnt sound like lily pichu hop off my porch
LOL
i love vic, dont like kellins vocals all that much
Holy shit, dying Cx
Pierce the veil sucked terribly.
I just spit out my juice right now
All I know is, I walked into the Concert and all I heard was awesome vocals. Came around the corner and saw them playing. they sound exactly like they do on the music video.
Who's here after hearing the news? Really sux Trenton is not with them anymore 😭 they'll never find a vocalist they can replace that talent
best song hlh will ever make.
shotgun johnny- nah i am was better
Brasil ♡♡♡
dat vocal range though, sometimes cringe worthy, but gotta give him credit (despite not hearing him live...)
Normally like melodeath, but love the feeling from this band among other post hardcore bands. Generally, this genre is a cash cow but bands like this give me hope with quality lyrical content. Can't tell if I'd prefer screams, because they do a pretty good job at making it work without em. Good band.
Lion Skin is probably their best song
Cody Shaw have you heard a tale of outer suburbia? That’s another really good 1
That and lion skin my favorites to this day lmao
These guys rock when live. Only seem them once but I'm so glad I did. Met them and got stuff signed as well. Aweeeeeesome guys, all very kind and I love 'em.
Hands like houses is one of the best bands that has ever been. Also, I met their keyboard player at a show once, and he is one of the nicest fucking dudes.
Jesus that fucking breakdown
I MISS THIS HLH WHAT HAPPENED TO NON-REPETITIVE BRIDGES AND METAPHORICAL LYRICS
+Devyn Smith colourblind
+Devyn Smith ik I really miss the great lyrics, nobody else seems to care tho.
LxH Cody same :( missing ground dweller type stuff atm :(((((
+Devyn Smith I'm making the same question...
+Devyn Smith i mean i am a pretty new fan, but i quite enjoy Colourblind and New Romantics, are those the songs you're talking about that have repetitive bridges or are you thinking of different ones?
I miss Ground Dweller vibes...
1:12 HE'S SO GOOD AT KEYS, HE CAN PLAY THOSE RUNS WITHOUT TOUCHING THE KEYBOARD!!!!
saw them at the concert in belfast last night! got to high five trenton whoop!!! love these guys so much
I wish their 3rd album Dissonants (out now) would've sounded emotional and had more feeling like these old songs they made. To me, now Dissonants sounds pretty damn generic and like all the other bands out there. Dissonants is a disappointment, but it isn't that bad.
