Omg. Chronosaurus and Streetlight are two of my all time SKZ favorites.
These boys are so amazingly talented.
Hellevator being a PREdebut song just makes the fact that JYP gave them shit for making it in a higher key fit for a woman amazing.
And then they came back with District 9. 🤣
Streetlight was written when Changbin was struggling a lot with his mental health. The lyrics are so sad. When he says 'but who cares'.. I cry everytime.
Chronosaurus is such an amazing song. Sometimes I think it's underrated, which is a travesty because it's a masterpiece. Also, the visuals in the MV are 😩😩😩
If you ever want to know what the clock times mean, any of us can tell you. They're significant.

I seriously loved Streetlight more than it probably looked. I get very swept away with raps that have a lot of meaning and are done in a very melodic way. Reading the lyrics really touched me, and I hope that we will be able to get it in the SKZ Player / Recorder album.

aaaaaa every time I see a long SKZ reaction from you I get so happy! 🥰 here's some history and context for you about "Streetlight": back in late 2019, at the time Changbin wrote this song, Stray Kids were going through their darkest moment.
Woojin had left the group, with no warning and no specific reasons given, at the worst possible time - just weeks before a comeback and a world tour. (And he was their main vocalist, so it was a huge blow to the team.) So they had to work 10 times as hard to redo everything last-minute, process the emotional turmoil of losing a member, AND try to reassure a fandom that was divided, confused and heartbroken by everything. These boys had to deal with all of that, *all at once.* It was absolute HELL for them, to the point where they broke down on stage during one of their first OT8 concerts: ruclips.net/video/or8Z9Bb3E9A/видео.html
All of them were physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted from it. They were probably scared their career would slowly decline...that their fans would leave them, and they'd lose the dreams they all worked so hard for. (This period is also when Secret Secret and Silent Cry were first written too.)
Now Changbin is someone who takes his role as a reliable "big brother" very seriously. He's been spoken of as the emotional "core" of the group, the glue that keeps everyone together...and it's easy to see why when you listen him talk. He's very patient, observant and down-to-earth, and has a ton of emotional intelligence. To his older AND younger members, he tries to offer a listening ear and lots of emotional support and advice. Back when the younger ones used to have a lot of fights, he even acted as a mediator to help them navigate the conflicts and smooth things over.
Changbin is someone the others have always relied on a lot. Someone they feel safe confiding in. And he WANTS to be that person. But taking on that burden and being strong and "staying positive" for everyone, on top of everything ELSE they were going through at the time...that was extremely hard for him. That'd be a lot for ANY one person to carry.
So he wrote this song to be honest about his own pain he'd been burying, and to comfort anyone else who might be going through the same struggles. (There's even a shoutout to the Blue Tree Project at the end of the video, which is pretty cool.)

Ok well I wish I didn't click on that video at 9am in the morning because now I'm an emotional wreck 🤣😭... Seeing Hyunjin slowly break down like that and everyone comfort him and them cry as well. HEARTBREAKING! I just seriously am so proud of where they are and I know that they will keep rising and rising!
I knew who Changbin was before "getting into" Stray Kids, but I only knew he was the rapper. I also haven't watched much of their "variety show" style content (which I am going to get more into), so I can't say that I know his personality well BUT from what I have been reading from Stay's, he really does seem like such a rock for the team and such a comfort person. A dad like figure who is firm but loving. It makes me excited to get to know him more!

If you love Changbin's rap may I recommend "Mirror Mirror" by F.Hero, Milli ft. Changbin? He collabed on this song with two really good Thai Rapper and Changbins Part in it is just fire! If you listen closely to him he kinds sounds like a drum set. :D

loving your reactions so far! thank you for appreciating and recognizing changbin's talents i feel he's generally not talked about as much in reactions videos but he always kills the rap part and truly is one of the best in kpop currently :) seconding someone's suggestion of 3 men in colorful pants by closer to the edge where you get the chaotic 3racha composing a joke song that actually sounds good (as well as more appreciation of changbin you will see XD) the full vlive which is around more than an hr or so is seriously something i keep going back to watch whenever i need a laugh :)

All the song that you choose today was AMAZING! I love all of them so so much especially Streetlight YES my bias is Changbin and this song is another level to me when I heard for the first time I was struggle for whole week after that. His voice, his rap, his meaning he wrote he always hit me in the middle of my heart 😭

I recommend skz cooking on vlive, there are 2 parts, team lee know vs team felix.
For streetlight, it was written by changbin when they were in rough times, same with han's slump. October 2019 was when the former member suddenly left the band and stray kids + their staff had a very difficult time because of that. They had an upcoming album (levanter), world tour concert, english ep, and it was the end of the year so there's a lot of award show and year end performances to prepare. They had to redo everything including rerecording, rechoreograph, reshoot mvs and photoshoots. It was real torture and suffering for 3 months, i don't know how skz survived that :( This was before God's menu and if you watched their intro video for Go Live album which they always film for every album, they talked about their struggles through that time. Han couldn't even write songs and changbin being the reliable brother he wanted to be wrote streetlight to express his cry for help. They are so strong and I'm very proud of every challenges they have overcome. I recommend watching the intro videos for their album if you want to see how they make the albums. They'll upload one for oddinarry too you can wait for that~
Sorry for the long emotional backstory, some people don't realize how difficult it was for skz and they never complained or asked for pity. The go live intro was the first time they opened up about it. Anyway just wanted to share that, have a great week ahead!

Have any of the members ever spoken about Streetlight or Slump? As i, spoken about how they didn't realise what they were going through or anything? I just wonder if the lyrics were kind of a shock to them or if they already knew what they were going through? I mean I'm sure they knew, but Changbin said in the lyrics that he wants to be that "rock" for them, so I wonder if he ever actually showed how much he was struggling!

The members have talked about streetlight and slump various times. Not just the members, all of us were shocked when streetlight was released. But it wasn't released real time. They said that they were feeling like that when they wrote those songs but they're okay now when it was released. Usually, the members do vlive after releasing their self written songs to explain it. A long time has passed and they're better now. And due to the pandemic, they started the skz record and player series to communicate with stays through music coz they couldn't do concerts. This was 2 years ago? The members are better in communicating now and are much closer. The fandom has really grown stronger as well due to these hurdles hehe skz are genuine kids and honest with their music so you will really get to know them if you see their lyrics and hear them talk. What initially made me a fan of them was because of the messages they relay in their songs which they wrote themselves and everything else good about them is a bonus. Look forward in oddinary comeback, they should start releasing teasers soon, it will be so much fun!

Not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but the ending of Streetlight with the blue paint, was tribute to the Blue Tree Project in Australia, breaking the stigma of mental health and saying “it’s okay to not be okay”
You’ll see that blue paint come back in a future mv/song called Ex, that Chan and Changbin wrote, I think you’ll really like the song!

I am not from Australia but if I am not wrong there is, blue tree project in Australia which encourages people to choose a dead tree that needs a "blue lease on life" and paint it in memory of a friend who lost their life to depression or had battled the illness.
And it was displayed in The streetlight MV.

feel like i need to comment since i recently changed my sn to include chronosaurus. This was the first stray kids song that came up when i was listening to music on random shuffle and i said, wait, who is that? i had just recently started listening to them at that time, and i liked the song so much. it's become one of my favorites by them, and made me look back at the older catalog.
i love streetlight, but it also highlights my biggest frustration with chan's production. i wish he used less autotune. i wish we could hear that song (and so many of their songs) without that autotune

I don't know if you've noticed, but a lot of they're performance videos have "fan cam" versions, where the camera only focuses on one of the guys at the same time. One of those vids is of a song they covered named My House, and there's a Changbin version. The whole song is sex on a stick (it's nothing compared to Red Light, but still), but Changbin just has *that* look g*ddamn lol

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, and it's kinda just a theory not confirmed by the members, but a lot of Stays think that Bang Chan was added to Streetlight intentionally to draw attention to the streetlight metaphor in the chorus. By Bang Chan and Changbin repeating the chorus together over and over at the end, it's exemplifying the fact that you rarely ever see a streetlight standing alone because there's always other streetlights close by.
It's basically just a reassurance that you're not alone. It's okay to feel these things and it's okay to allow yourself to be vulnerable with others because who knows who else is feeling the same way you are. Nobody is okay 100% of the time and that's normal.

As a debut Stay, no I don’t. He is obviously happier where he is and SKZs current signature style is not something he would fit well into. There was a reason he was let go, it’s not our business but from someone who went through that, no SKZ is honestly better off as they are. He is better off where he is.

Victory Song was in April 2019 (the reason only seven of them dance in the performance vid is because two were injured at that time; Changbin was mostly recovered but not quite there yet, and Seungmin still had a while to go). Victory song was originally from the Clé 1: Miroh album. The reason the credits listed SKZ2020 is because that (and SKZ2021) are the two albums where the old songs were re-recorded into ot8 versions, and Victory Song is among these. So when the song is streamed on music platforms, the version that's heard is the updated ot8 version, not the older 9-member version that's in the video.

MAMA royally snubbed them, and literally everyone, even non-fans, knew it. SKZ blew up in 2020, with both God's Menu and Back Door taking them to global-hit status and making news worldwide (like, TIME Magazine-level), yet MAMA didn't so much as nominate them for a single thing and, in true Mnet fashion, appeared to be manipulating numbers again (affecting SKZ as well as other groups). Which was notable especially because SKZ had been announced as one of the six competing groups for the upcoming Kingdom: Legendary War competition show. (They had also just blatantly used Changbin for clickbait and views on the recent season of SMTM.)
So MAMA brought on all three of the 4th-gen Kingdom groups and had them perform both a triangular fight dance (Hyunjin from SKZ, Juyeon from The Boyz, San from Ateez) and full stages (each one representing warring gods; SKZ were Ares), using the performances and groups as promo for Kingdom. SKZ were given an insultingly short time to prepare, having apparently been invited to Kingdom and included in the awards show at the last minute, and while I can't find the specific sources for the info rn, the general fandom knowledge gives it as roughly a week, give or take a few days, to prepare a massive stage for one of the biggest awards shows in the industry. Mnet wanted SKZ to show up and perform and bring in views and promote Kingdom, while MAMA was openly snubbing them and after having _just_ done the exact same thing to Changbin.
So SKZ rolled up -- while refusing to use a new or virally popular song (that Mnet would have exploited for even more views) and instead using a particularly aggressive, loud, non-mainstream-friendly remix of a nearly two-year-old, largely unpromoted b-side -- and proceeded to kill the stage while declaring war and literally saying the words "Don't you know who we are? You cannot defeat us. This is our Kingdom. You can't kill us. Bring it on." And then left, leaving no opportunity for Mnet to milk anything else out of them for views.
That clip with Chan, Binnie, and Han-as-horse is from an ep of Channie's Room. Basically every time 3RACHA gets together on Channie's Room, they devolve into this level of self-fueling absurdity. Every single instance is worth watching at some point.

Even if you don't watch the Chan/Changbin Channie's Room on camera and just watch it on your own time, knowing how everything started might make "Three Men" more fun because you'll have context and understand the full sequence of events. Just a thought, though.
Unfortunately, that was not a very good lyrical translation of "Streetlight." My favorite yt lyrics version of the song is ruclips.net/video/jc7P23nuIds/видео.html -- it's not perfect, but it definitely captures the meaning and poetry a lot more than the lyrics you looked at. Andy & Jas did an actual translation, as well: ruclips.net/video/O6M_dz1xNy0/видео.html . In terms of interpreting what he actually _means_ with those words, they missed the mark a few times, but the linguistic translation is helpful. (It's not an assumption that they were a little off on some of their initial interpretations of meaning. Changbin and Chan have both talked about the song's meaning and origin. Your summation of the meaning before starting the song is indeed what it's actually about. He's always inviting others to lean on him and making himself look strong so they feel confident in his support, but during a particular period when the entire remaining eight members were really low, Bin was struggling under the strain of being everyone's emotional stronghold but didn't want to ask anyone to help support him or help share his burden the way he does for them. He's said that making this song is part of what helped him get better and move out of that period, as he'd given the feelings voice and shared them so others who might also be feeling that way could benefit.)
Random trivia: though not listed in credits, Hyunjin did ghost vocals on the song. Also, the blue-painted little tree at the end is a reference to Australia's Blue Tree Project for mental-health awareness; this reference appears again -- still with Changbin -- in the "Ex" video. "Streetlight" is a SKZ-Player release. SKZ-Player and SKZ-Record songs aren't available on music streaming sites, as they're unofficial/independent releases. However, after listening to STAY whine and moan about the injustice for years, they've finally caved -- a SKZ-Player/SKZ-Record album is schedule to be released sometime this year, so some or all of these songs will finally be on music streaming sites.
If you like Streetlight because of the dark, emotional storytelling aspect, you're likely to appreciate pretty much all of the songs Han has written -- Slump, Alien, 19, Secret Secret, the Close/Wish You Back/HaPpY trilogy, Another Day, Winter Falls, even stuff like Sunshine. Dark/emotional/melancholic is Han's baliwick. In this same vein, that vibe covers about 80% of predebut 3RACHA's music; a _lot_ of it is pretty dark, angsty, pain-filled, uncertain, etc -- which makes sense for a trio of teenagers struggling in the mire of idol training and watching their music be completely ignored even when they were literally begging _anyone_ to listen to them. (Warning: some of it is _very_ dark.) Then there's Chan's "I Hate to Admit" solo release. And you've only scratched the surface of SKZ's catalogue -- there are a lot of emotional or deep or storytelling or melancholic songs in SKZ's b-sides. Mirror, Silent Cry, Grrr, Phobia, M.I.A., Ex, B Me, Gone Away, even somewhat lighter or hope-among-the-doubt stuff like Insomnia, Question, Spread My Wings, One Day, My Side... Basically, that content has been part of SKZ since before SKZ existed as a group; you just have to find it beyond the bangers.

I’m actually thinking maybe I’ll just dedicate a whole video to listening to all of the songs you just mentioned. Kind of like an album listen but not an album. Dark/emotional/melancholic rap and music I tend to gravitate to and thoroughly enjoy. I don’t like feeling “sad” but I also do like feeling sad from songs at the same time. Like…. I want a song to rip into my emotions and have me feeling some sort of way! I just connect to music like that.

@@melaniereacts I'm glad you're interested in looking more into them. I should clarify that the musical aspect of those songs is alllllll over the place. You could go from gently vibing on One Day to bopping on Question or Spread My Wings to flipping tables on Mirror or Awaken or My Side or Grrr. But the _lyrics_ are where there's the connection -- the depth of meaning, the expression of a lot of those less-than-pretty emotions and experiences that kpop usually doesn't talk about.
And some are heavier than others (M.I.A. is "dear younger self, where has your happiness gone?" while Grrr is _literally_ "don't f*cking mess with me or I'll bite you because my teenage mind and hormones are in chaos"), so there's still a gamut of intensity. Also, these are only a sampling I spit out off the top of my head. There are definitely many more, which either other STAYs might recommend or that you'll come across if you decide to work your way through their discography at some point.
But yeah, I'd love to see someone react to these, and I'm sure plenty of other STAYs would as well, as most of these tend to get overlooked by reactors, as they only get introduced to the recent bangers.
Btw, the majority of these have MVs/special videos/performance videos/etc, but a few don't, so be aware. Also, I can't believe I forgot to include this in the recommendations, when it's the poster song for mental issues and general turmoil: Side Effects.
