There's a 3s trials rom out there, that contains a bunch of cool trials, far more advanced and unique then what's in 3s Online. Bafael has done a few videos on them. They range from practical to hyper situational but if you want more 3s trials content, that would be a good place to go.
Talking about idle animations, The only thing that moves on Makoto is her gi and sash. Her training and focus is so good there's no extraneous movement. I actually love that and had never noticed it before this video.
That detail is INSANE!! Thank you for pointing this out, I don’t think I would’ve ever noticed in my own. The look of this game has always seemed so indescribably refined to me.
“Top Makoto players can just do it whenever they like” You’d think that, but the 100% stun is a frighteningly difficult combo to do even at the top level. There’s a reason Tominaga is one of the only one of them to stick with SA2 is most matchups, and it’s not because SA1 is strictly better.
Yeah, Tominaga is the only top Makoto player if they're supposed to be able to do this consistently all the time. It really is a brutally difficult combo.
well...SA1 is mostly better because it fits more consistently into makoto's pressure and gameplan, and since you can hit it more consistently. SA2 requires strict positioning and ONLY combos after a karakusa or oroshi, so it's waaay harder to hit. Most top level Makoto players, like Mimora or Boss, do stuff that's arguably harder than the 100%, and certainly have the execution needed to be able to consistently finish the TOD. However, they probably choose not to, since Seichusen adds another layer of reward and mixups parallel to the karakusa, aside from being much more flexible. It's mostly an insanely powerful mixup tool.
Also there's different variations of the kara fukiage you have to do depending on who the opponent character is. My brain just can't handle. Makoto still the best SF character tho. Don't @me
One of my favorite things on fighting games are combo trials. They always seem real fun to me, and seeing jmcrofts attempting some of the hardest and succeeding in them will always be satisfying yo me
I love that Third Strike has combos like these. Their difficulty feels almost intentional; because mastering these ruins the game for everyone else. Urien unblockable loops SUCK, Makoto TOD's SUCK; but they don't ruin the game because such a small fraction of people can even do them once, let alone everytime
I like how 3rd strike came out more than 20 years ago and is STILL harder than recent street fighter titles. The only game that comes as hard if not harder is Street fighter 1 because of the super stiff inputs and cheap boss A.I lol
None of that sucks more Chun kicking the air in the corner with a super bar while you are terrified to sneeze, and it's third srike Parry allows for the jank to feel ok because you can always just swat that shit out of there and win lol
Me too. I think this kind of stuff that is incredibly hard to do is one of those things that helps players achieve mastery of the game that few ever do. Rewarded for the effort and dedication because the best makotos in the world get rewarded and win rounds off one command grab if they can do this. This stuff isnt broken because its all situational still. its character specific. Its super super hard to a point only few players ever can even do it consistently. That is what helps balance it all out and stops it from being brokenly good.
I've been playing 3s for like 160 hours and I can land makotos double fuki combo about half of the time, it's really not as hard as people make it out to be once you get used to the timing and Kara cancel.
Man I'm so proud of you landing that last combo. When I first started Third Strike back in the day I wanted to main Makoto, but these combos were so intimidating and I never got close. Seeing you grind it out and complete them is cathartic, so thank you.
I’ve had Makoto as my main for about 10 years now, so these combos are like my bread and butter. Though connecting that jab fukiage is pretty tough sometimes
If you haven't done them already, I would love to see Blazblue Central Fiction, and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 combo trials. They're long, and can be difficult, but they're very fun.
Quick tip for Makoto: If you are ever trying to hit the Abare Tosanami combo from command grab, the best way to tell if you can land the s.HP into super is by the life bar. If you are behind the time clock when trying to hit it, you are able to combo, but anywhere past the time clock, and s.HP xx Super will not connect. The more you know!
JM my man I'm loving these combo trial vids. All of them have been awesome. I would absolutely love to see you attempt Uniclr trials next. Some characters in that game I've been having trouble completing for a while(Linne, Carmine, Yuzu), and I haven't even attempted Vatista yet. I'd like to see how you would fare against them
with the rollback (HOPEFULLY) coming soon to BBCF, it would be fun to see you go through the trials on that. Some are hard, some are pretty easy. BBCP has some really interresting final combos in its trial mode, that dont tell you what to do, but rather give you challenge, such as "Use 200% of your meter in 1 combo" or "Stay in the air for 10 seconds", so it would be cool to look at that as well.
I’m rlly hoping if they do add her, that she takes a little inspiration from Ryu and gains a few of the core shoto moves (specifically a fireball and maybe the cmk) while keeping most of her fiercely aggressive kit.
the touch of death, just the combo that I'm still practicing but thanks to your video I see the missing piece for the second Fukiage, the Japanese told me to practice first with Hugo as an opponent.
I don’t think I was ever able to replicate the Daigo parry in online edition. Some of those Super IV trials were nightmares for me. Probably the hardest platinum trophy I have on my account because of the C to Shining C trophy.
Now do double super 2 into double Fukiage for the instant stun combo lmao. Also you should do some of the custom combo trails for Third Strike they’re crazy but very cool
For those who don't know, "Hayate" can be another word for "Shippuu", and without actually seeing the kanji I'd guess that's the intent with Makoto and Ken.
Yo! You should try the Street Fighter Ex plus Alpha combo trials! They get pretty interesting for some characters like Dhalsim having one where you must keep him in the air for at least 10 seconds. Much harder than it sounds 🥴
3:51 some capoeira users call it the ginga.. when they add “esquivas” that when the head moves move but also more arm movement but i agree it does look funny like the front view of a hurdler
18:17 - something else you can do is watch the screen when you do your kara. The whole screen should ever so slightly shift to the left (the direction of you kara). That's how always tell if I got it or not
loving the content and loving the trials, keep up the good work! I forget the reason you dropped it but would really like to see the return of the persona 4 arena trials
That last Makoto combo literally took me an hour or more back on ps3. Think I only did 1 in matches and jump cancel qc kick move into dash punch instead of another dp on ground.
In old STF game combo challenges, they literally did not tell you which potency of the move to use. I learned the hard way in STF EX+Alpha... horrible game but great music and completionism in my youth made me do it.
3:53 That's because the opponent is supposed to be confused by the limps israre but Angola does have headbutting attacks. You should learn it, commonly known as capoeira. However this is an African fighting style that was influence by Zebras.
Around the time you were doing SFIV and UMVC3 combo trials you also started the Persona 4 Arena trials. Any chance we get to see those next? Love your stuff man. Keep up the good work.
I'm a makoto main and a friend had to do trial 5 for me lol. But I also play pad. KoFXIII trials are a ton of fun and so are anime games like blazblue and guilty gear. Trials are usually one of the first things I do in a new fighter.
I’ve been playing Makoto for awhile and I’ve had to learn to accept that I’ll be playing with seichusen godanzuki. I just don’t think I’ll ever be landing those fukiage combos in a real match.
The kara fukiage juggle isn't strictly necessary; she has other super2 juggles that are much easier and still do monstrous damage and dizzy. They just don't guarantee dizzy on anyone except Akuma and Remy
@@Ihavenolifeorvideos that’s true but even some of those can be challenging or context dependent like the one where you can’t be center screen. Super 2 is still viable without hitting the optimal juggles, but definitely still more work.
@@clearly182 Outside of double fukiage, the only hard part is confirming super2 itself, which is context-dependent, character-specific, and one of the fastest double QCF's I've ever needed to execute. Its not a wrong choice at all honestly. Super 1 is very good and much easier to use IMO. BUT if you can do super 2 and land these stun combos I think super 2 is better, and you have to keep in mind the fear factor and screen control you gain from someone scared to get near the corners. If they corner you and you command grab them you get a TOD combo. The TOD combo is very very very hard to do though and its even harder to do on chun. Its a very hard combo to master.
