I am a beginner at casting and by following your instructions I managed to double my casting distance and it feels that I can even better with some more practice. Thank you so much!!!
This has to be one of the best videos to learn the OTG cast it’s in-depth and touch on areas that I think other videos forget to talk about or don’t explain fully I’m by no means the best caster and I’m alway learning new ways of casting and fishing but these videos have helped me get distance when I need to get out further.
Thank you Andy. It has been a while since I posted this up (like 13 years). My goal was to break down the groundcast and make it easy to understand. I finally put everything I've learned into a DVD, the comprehensive guide to powercasting, available at carolinacastpro.com .
@smoothcriminal997 Depends who's hands the rod is in and the build quality of the rod. Hardest thing for anyone who hasn't been casting for years to grasp, is that top begin with, you will cast much further with a softer rod. Have a look at Tommy's casting with the AnyFishAnyWhere, 13ft rod. He was genuinely surprised at how well it performed and yet how gentle it was to use. Heavy / stiff rods have zero tollerence for mistakes. Get the slightest thing wrong and they WILL bite back!!
@rhoadess In the spring of this year, I began teaching my son to cast properly, using a 12ft Diawa Moonraker that I bought years & years ago. Anyway, I taught him to use the following measurement, regardless of rod length. When beginning, start with a length from the rod tip to the centre of the rod. As the days went by, the drop increased by around 6 inches per day. He now casts with a drop all the way down to his reel, which is in the "reel up" position. Try not to have ANY slack, ok.
At what length should the line extend from the tip of the rod, and at what point in the cast does the weight leave the ground. It seems as if this type of cast would snap the line, if given too much slack. I am new to all of this, so sorry for my ignorance.
Hi tommy, Will a medium action rod(4-6oz) be easier to learn casting than a heavy action (6-8)oz rod? Also is there something you can tell about then exactly to release the spool, to get the most out of my rod?
Can you recommend me what brand and diameter you use for mainline and knot for the shock leader because mine keep slipping and snapping causing backlashes
561BT, Your quote "dam wat u using sux... let me intoduce you to chaos rods" really shows your ignorance in the area of quality casting rods. Zzipplex produces some of the finest casting/fishing rods in the world. I doubt Chaos would even come close....

Tommy, this video and the following clip 2 are among the best casting instruction videos online, congrats!
Thank you for these videos - it's great to get a good demo. Not much in the way of known tutore in my part of the world (I think). Cheers.

It is indeed the Welsh Dragon. The stickers were give to me by a friend, Welsh caster Gareth Davis, at a casting tourney a few years back.
Great Video! good tips

Hi Tommy can you make a short video on how to attach the bass ball to your line, so i n practice my cast on the field?
