what you say around 1:20 is by far the most important factor I feel and so very true yet hard to describe if it has not been felt. It makes playing round strings just so much tougher.
Just tried O-Toro myself in my Pure Strike 97. Personally not my jam. At real low tensions it felt super launchy. Had to bump up my next set to 52lbs and it became a lot more usable. For some reason it really wanted me to drive through the ball with a touch of spin and let the string rip it (I usually take big spinny cuts at the ball). Once I figured it out I see its merits but I think my go to still gotta be BHS7T mains and Sync crosses.
I have really liked head lynx tour at around 42/40 lbs. Heaps of pop on serve and pockets the ball well for spin and control. Im going to try 1.1mm tour bite regular and soft soon. First time ive gone thinner than 1.25mm on any poly
Hey Beckett! Based on this video, went and picked up some O-Toro to try in my Babolat Pure Aero+. As I play mostly doubles, I am a fan of lower tensions. How low do you think one could go with this string and do you think it would benefit from stringing it down? The play testers on TW all seemed to like the string, but wished they had strung lower in their comments. Look forward to your thoughts.
Confidential and tour bite are my go to easily accessible strings with thin gauge options available. But i just found a gem weiss cannon red ghost. It feels like a slightly more powerful confidential with the same feel. Its really good.
Problem with Red Ghost is tension/control maintenance. Playability is pretty decent despite that, but it starts to lose its marbles fairly quickly after banging on it for only a session or two. I do like Weiss Canon in general, though. The new black-colored Ultra Cable is straight fire.
I took advantage of turkey day sales to get my fatty tuna and snapper (cross) and it's been amazing so far. Just wish it was warmer here in Georgia to hit more :(
Solinco revolution 1.25 is a fantastic softer and super crisp playing sting with amazing control and spin. Doesn't have the artificial disconnected feel of shiny toroline strings. Has incredible tention maintenance as well... I have my affiliate link......
I just hit otoro with sync in the crosses and it was quite nice for me. No increase in spin (I think Zero is the only cross that might increase spin) but the feel is crisper, more controlled and more responsive which I enjoy.
@@TennComthanks for taking time to respond - surprising how few youtubers ever respond. Do you think sync and otoro could be nicer than a full bed of otoro? My current testing is full bed otorro and 1 racket of sync & zero which I user for a long time. Otoro for me a weird start and an unexplainable string because its not the feel I normally would enjoy, but I couldnt put it down. My consistency went up and like you say - depth control. I have played same racket but probably not matched due to qc, there is something I like of both setups. Any other toroline string that could be a good hybrid with otoro? Enso pro? Thanks again
I started playing with TM8 on Beckett's advice, and it is genuinely an incredible string! I have it in my PA100, and it's the perfect combination of spin, comfort, power, and feel. Really liked Tour Sniper too, but TM8 is superb.
I have a PA100 too, and was really wondering which string to try. Thanks for this comment because I’m gonna try M8 now! Also, what gauge do you use and why do you use that one?
Your reviews are awesome and your lighthearted humour very Canadian 🇨🇦. Just received my sets of O-Toro thanks to your link so excited to try it and many of my clients use PA98’s with Restring Zero at 48 lbs so interested to see if they will like O-toro better. Any tension recommendations? Thanks Beckett. You, Tennisnerd and Luca are the Big 3.
@@stevenm8177 Yes I have the stock now. Waiting for the Canada Post strike to resolve before I restock the site. None of the other shipping options really work financially.
Just strung my rafa with sync in mains (which I love)+zero in crosses, was a short session but it felt pretty damn amazing. Control and feel of sync with a little bit more bite, I was surprised at the bite/feel component. Hopefully stays this way. Have some m8 lying around but havent used that yet. So many great strings last year or so.
I went from lynx tour to toro toro pink in a ezone 98. Looks cooler, plays similarly consistent but with better snap. No real defining factor but good all round string in my opinion. Maybe even under rated considering there isn’t a whole lot of RUclipsr reviews on it. Beckett, could you/ would you slide it into your list? Or if not, why?
I have pretty major control issues with TT. I just had it in my Rafa 3 days ago but cut it out because I just don't trust it. Worked ok for me in the CX200, but everything else has been meh. Just went through my list and it's at #24.
@@TennComthat’s interesting as I find the launch angle and control/power element to be decent. Never launchy. Anyway cheers the the reply bud and keep the good stuff coming 👍
i just did the same thing in my ezone 98 after lynx tour being my go to string for over a year now. For me plays quite the same, even feel a little bit more bite on the ball.
fortunately it seems like our preferences are very similar. strung it in the VC95 '23. Combination of the string stretching and the racket flexing, the dwell time became TOO MUCH, LOL. what are your thoughts on stringing it in the Ezone tour, given this: similar to your Rafa, it has very little dwell time and with the slight added pocketing of the o-toro, it might be the perfect amount of 'drive' + 'dwell' to get that bit of spin my reference point is VC95 with head lynx tour. it was just getting a little too harsh for me
I think OT would work in the EZONE Tour. I don't think it'll be quite as connected as what you've got in the VCORE tho. I'm now using ReString Sync in the crosses and it adds a noticeable amount of extra feel and predictability. That route might work better in the VC95.
Assuming the strings listed in the top 10 here are ones you would mostly either use in a full bed, or in the mains of a poly blend (except maybe sync), what are your top picks for crosses, that provide good snapback but also a decently crisp feel (i.e. not too mushy)?
Correct assumption. The only strings I really use as crosses are Sync and Ghostwire. Sync if I want to retain the feel of the main string while adding some spin and durability and GW if I'm looking to soften things up and retain feel. I have also enjoyed Hyper-G Round however I've determined that Sync does a better job for durability and spin, though control is reduced. Some strings I've experimented with and found to be less than idea for most usersL Hawk white, PolyTour Fire, Snapper, Enso Pro, Hawk Rough, Tour Bite Diamond Rough, anything from Kirschbaum
What are the major differences between O-Toro in a full bed vs in your hybrid with Sync? I’d like to try both strings, but not sure if it’s worth trying them in full beds or skipping straight to the hybrid. Any recommendations (for a lightly customized Ezone 98)?
Sync reduces the ball pocketing (more boardy) and increases the vibration in the setup to a more crisp, less plush feel. Both would prob work well in the EZ98, just more about what you prefer personally.
Hey Tenn, What would be a good hybrid with tm8(main)? Basically I like the access of ball pocketing, power, touch from m8, but also need something in the cross to get more shape and into the court more in pressured situations. Can you give me a few suggestions for a control and shaped cross? Is restring zero a good start? P/s Im using a vcore 98 2023. So you know how open and launchy it can be
I'm leaning to a rough cross string like RPM Rough or something so you get good snap but a little extra grip. TBH I think it's generally better to get most of your ball bite from the main string though. So if TM8 isn't giving you the grip you need, maybe it's time for a new main. I'll be doing a video on Tour Mako soon which might fit the bill given the sand papery texture.
I've been loving my reel of Tour Sniper paired with either Restring Zero or HyperG Round on the crosses (thanks to your poly/poly blend video!!) in my PA98s Random question not entirely related to this vid - but what, in your opinion, makes a racket 'string sensitive'? Stabilization/dampening tech? RA?
Good question. For a long time, I thought "string sensitivity" was a myth, until I started testing strings in Simon's GPro and I barely noticed changes compared to my ET. In general, I think it's the presence, or lack there of, of dampening tech. The more vibrations that come through the frame, the more string sensitive the frame should be.
Cross rec for RF 01 Pro if I want to use O-toro in main? I've only played with full bed of kirschbaum evo pro at 50 and it's nice but a bit too stiff for comfort.
I think O-Toro is perfectly fine in a full bed. I wanted something firmer and more conencted so I put Sync in the crosses and its one of my favourite setups of all time. To soften things I would use Ghostwire to retain feel or Wasabi X if you like a more muted feel.
How do you compare o toro to caviar and wasabi and restribg zero in terms of power? And does o toro need to be a higher tension because of its softness?
I've only tried it in the VCORE 95 and I'd say it was a bit too soft in that frame for me. I think I'd feel similarly in the 98. Toro Toro is even softer and more powerful than O-Toro and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. I prefer crisper and firmer strings in the VCOREs.
Beckett, for the Babolat Pure Strike 97, I would like to know the 3 best options on your list and in a video by Lucca he commented that in yours PSVS he thought the racket performs better with low tension, how much do you recommend in pounds? Thank you very much!
Mine was strung at 48lbs with Absolute and then he restrung it with RPM Blast at 53lbs and it killed the racquet. I'd go for something soft and forgiving like O-Toro or even Polytour Pro
Hey beckett, kinda in a dilema and need a bit of advice So im coming off a PSVS and its been my main for a few months. Tried out the RF01 but felt like i couldnt control it as much and it would fly on my shots. Whereas on the PSVS i want a tad bit more power. Would you recommend the PS 16x19 or the 18x20 as something i should try?
I’ve been enjoying my hybrid of LT and HGR @ 50lb in my Phantom 97s. However, I’ve unexpectedly started getting shoulder and arm pain. Never happened before. I wonder if the two are linked. Do you reckon it’s worth giving O Toro a go?
@@TennCom So I don’t like white strings (as in I’ve never enjoyed the feel, not some weird cosmetic thing). So I have tried O Toro, interestingly I certainly didn’t find it mushy. If anything, I found it bordering on harsh. It’s strange how we find it so different. I’ve seen other reviews that say you need to have really fast RHS to get anything out of this string. Whilst I don’t claim to be a 20 YO college athlete (😢😢), I do hit pretty hard with decent topspin - playing ITF O40s. Toroline suggest dropping the tension in the X, which I’ll try. I’m also going to try hybyriding it with HGR and caviar in the X. See how that goes.
I feel it’s worth trying these things because there’s a very direct feel and good spin and control. If I can add a bit more ball pocketing I’ll be really happy with it.
@@robertjames5034 yeah I've noticed some inconsistencies with the reviews as well. I think there's something to be said about matching the flex of your strings and frame to your swing speeds. I wonder if you are bottoming out the string or something. I definitely didn't share the same experience as the TK tennis guy. I don't think I have elite swing speeds either but I never felt like it lacked forgiveness.
From my limited experience with both: Confidential - better control, bite and spin; plasticky and firm feel Lynx Tour - better, more "natural" feel, more arm friendly, more poweful, also a bit heavier than the same gauge of a different string On my first few hits I liked Confidential more, but after a few restrings and some slight elbow pain I now gravitate more toward Lynx Tour. Both are excellent though. PS: I used the black Confidential and the champagne Lynx Tour.
@@georgipopov8973 My experience was the opposite comparing Lynx Tour with Confidential... My main string is Confidential and I use it on my Strike VS. In general, I felt in the same tension and gauge (Lynx appears to by thicker in the 1.25) stiffer and more control oriented than Confidential. Strung at the same tension the first hit with Lynx felt boardy and not so forgiving so I still use Confidential as my main string Might be better for my in a hybrid or something to give a bit more life or just try the 1.20 to see something comparable between the two
@@sebastiancastellanos6165 could be, could be. I should mention that I string my own racquets with a very old drop weight machine that it seems sometimes kind of overstretches the strings, this effect feels negligible with Lynx Tour and more pronounced with Confidential. The racquets also could be a differentiating factor - I used both strings on both a Bab PA VS and a Bab PS 2017/Project 17. For the Pure Aero the Lynx was a bit too powerful and I felt Confidential was better suited while for the PS Lynx feels better. All stringjobs were around the same in kilos, in the 21-23 range, 1,25 gauge.
need advice for the best string that complement my vcore 100, because 100 is too launchy, is there any advice what is the best string? my grip is in between semi west and full west and my typical shot is a lot of spin (for reference if its help). would appreciate for the help
Tour M8 is one of the best feeing and connected plush strings out there. I only need more free power from it.....can you suggest a hybrid or maybe strung it lower?
Should be able to string it quite low and retain control, but you could also try throwing Ghostwire in the crosses to soften things up and get a little more zip into the court.
I haven't not, mainly because I like M8 so much just as is when used in a full bed. I think using M8 in the crosses with Zero mains would defeat the purpose of M8 as Zero would dominate the string bed.
hey Beckett im using a pair of gravity pros with rpm rough and restring zero around 45-6 lbs, they feel similar when I play but notice zero ball bounces off faster and rpm has more snapback? i can play well in either and don't have a favorite out of these, before I have tried razor code and was pretty similar. Now I want to try lynx tour (luka said its good), and razor soft. I also have access to sync and Toroline strings (but no grapplesnake), what would be a good choice for tension 50lbs. Also I'm sometimes have arm discomfort and lack of feel (can be cuz of auxetic and I use dampener) but would anything that can help with those? Thanks
I've alsways thought that M8 was best used in a full bed to get the most out of its qualities, but I have heard from several viewers who use TS mains M8 crosses
TBD, I've always felt that M8 was best used in a full bed since it's so well rounded. OT gives me similar feelings but I might try pairing it with a super stiff cross to get a little more performance but I haven't made the time yet.
@@TennCom Nice, I have a Sniper/M8 hybrid strung up I need to try as well but will add that full bed of M8 to my list (was using full bed of Sniper before)
You should try out the Dunlop sx 300 today, my favorite spin racket, it’s great with restring zero. I’ve tried the vcore and pure aero and to me the sx 300 has the most spin with not much less control.
I think it varies depending on your swing speed. Toro Toro is much easier to use. A lot more forgiving at a wide range of swingspeeds but the ball can fly if you are playing open level tennis. O-Toro is designed for pro player use, so its pretty unforgiving if you aren't ripping every ball.
Just wondeirng if anyone could help me. i have a pure aero team with hypger g @ 52 lb, and am switing to wasbi hybrid of wasabi(mains) and wasabi x(crosses). does anyone have a recommend tension?
It sounds like Otoro has a non-linear response given how much it sounds like it punishes you for not going for a shot-how does Otoro satisfy your need for predictability?
How is the durability on Otoro? One of the main reasons I love Zero is because of the durability being insanely good. Your comment re: low swing speeds or high swing speeds being the sweet spot for O Toro is exactly how I feel about Restring Zero. it's those medium pace shots that really suffer--they end up launching. Slower speed, and the strings natural power does more than enough to get depth. High speed, the snapback really comes in and the spin is outrageous. Medium? Rocketing to other galaxies
what do you recommend for the RF01 300g? what string setup would make this racket better and what would be a string setup for the string elbow with this racket?
I like crisper strings in the RF. I think O-Toro would be too mushy. Grapplesnake Tour Sniper, SIlver 7 TOur, Lynx Tour would all be on my list for that frame.
I personally prefer Confidential. The VC95 is pretty soft and muted so I prefer something firmer and crisper. I prob would have liked the black version of O-Toro more but I had a very limited amount of that for testing.

I’ve been enjoying my hybrid of LT and HGR @ 50lb in my Phantom 97s. However, I’ve unexpectedly started getting shoulder and arm pain. Never happened before. I wonder if the two are linked. Do you reckon it’s worth giving O Toro a go?
I think it might be too mushy in the Phantom. Would probably try LT but Ghostwire in the cross instead.
Can anyone explain the differences between the Head lynx tour and Solinco confidential?
From my limited experience with both:
Confidential - better control, bite and spin; plasticky and firm feel
Lynx Tour - better, more "natural" feel, more arm friendly, more poweful, also a bit heavier than the same gauge of a different string
On my first few hits I liked Confidential more, but after a few restrings and some slight elbow pain I now gravitate more toward Lynx Tour.
Strung at the same tension the first hit with Lynx felt boardy and not so forgiving so I still use Confidential as my main string
Might be better for my in a hybrid or something to give a bit more life or just try the 1.20 to see something comparable between the two
@@sebastiancastellanos6165 could be, could be.
The most controlled string I've tried with a super low launch angle is Babolat RPM Power
You ever try m8 as a cross string? Seems like it might pair well with a high snap back / super slick string. Restring Zero / m8 super hybrid???
I haven't not, mainly because I like M8 so much just as is when used in a full bed. I think using M8 in the crosses with Zero mains would defeat the purpose of M8 as Zero would dominate the string bed.
@@TennCom fine m8 / o-toro hybrid dealer’s choice cross vs mains 🤯
@@Drwatcherman I don't even know. Gut says O-Toro mains but you'd be treading unknown territory.
Hi, congrats for the channel!
What do you think would fit better da ezone 98? Thanks
I'll be reviewing it soon, but I think the new Grapplesnake Tour Mako would play super nice in the EZONE 98. Polytour Pro also always works well.
hey Beckett im using a pair of gravity pros with rpm rough and restring zero around 45-6 lbs, they feel similar when I play but notice zero ball bounces off faster and rpm has more snapback? i can play well in either and don't have a favorite out of these, before I have tried razor code and was pretty similar. Thanks
why is the tension so low? planning to get zero in 50/48, is that too high? usually i go 52/50 on polys
@@william01889 strung at 48 probs 45ish now plays alright
What d you think in hybrid system whit sniper and m8? I've player white aero 98 and now i buy boom mp 2024
I've alsways thought that M8 was best used in a full bed to get the most out of its qualities, but I have heard from several viewers who use TS mains M8 crosses
Is ReString Zero less spin friendly
Beckett, have you tried to hybrid o-toro with wasabi x?
I have not. I'm not a huge fan of Wasabi X since I don't like muted feels.
Would you recommend a hybrid of M8 and O-Toro?
TBD, I've always felt that M8 was best used in a full bed since it's so well rounded. OT gives me similar feelings but I might try pairing it with a super stiff cross to get a little more performance but I haven't made the time yet.
@@TennCom Nice, I have a Sniper/M8 hybrid strung up I need to try as well but will add that full bed of M8 to my list (was using full bed of Sniper before)
@@TennCom What cross do you normally recommend for Sniper or do you usually play a full bed with that too?
Hello what s the difference between the green and black version?
Black is firmer feeling, crisper, more connected and responsive with less power, pocketing and comfort.
You should try out the Dunlop sx 300 today, my favorite spin racket, it’s great with restring zero. I’ve tried the vcore and pure aero and to me the sx 300 has the most spin with not much less control.
The SX should be updated soon at which point I shall revisit
Speaking of gut hybrids, can you recommend multis for hybrids? Especially those with better SnapBack and durability.
Wilson sensation is surprisingly durable but only on the crosses. I reckon rpm soft might be okay if you need more snap
Which one do you think better? O toro.. or toro toro.. whats the differences?
I think it varies depending on your swing speed. Toro Toro is much easier to use. A lot more forgiving at a wide range of swingspeeds but the ball can fly if you are playing open level tennis. O-Toro is designed for pro player use, so its pretty unforgiving if you aren't ripping every ball.
the winners only tennis shirt :D
Just wondeirng if anyone could help me. i have a pure aero team with hypger g @ 52 lb, and am switing to wasbi hybrid of wasabi(mains) and wasabi x(crosses). does anyone have a recommend tension?
It sounds like Otoro has a non-linear response given how much it sounds like it punishes you for not going for a shot-how does Otoro satisfy your need for predictability?
Currently looking for something like the Yonex Polytour Pro, with kinda the same feel, but with a little more bite.
Not to continue tooting the Toroline horn, but Caviar plays a lot like a 6 sided Polytour Pro. Also maybe Signum Pro Triton (rough)
@@TennCom Will try these, thanks !
Durability is definitely worse than Zero, I think mostly because of how soft the string is. I break it in about a weeks worth of hitting.
Whar about tour bite 17 guage on a pure drive 98?
what do you recommend for the RF01 300g? what string setup would make this racket better and what would be a string setup for the string elbow with this racket?
I like crisper strings in the RF. I think O-Toro would be too mushy. Grapplesnake Tour Sniper, SIlver 7 TOur, Lynx Tour would all be on my list for that frame.
Have you tried Ytex Quadro twist?
yeah. Not a fan at all.
@@TennCom interesting. You really do love the crispy ones
Thoughts on Toroline O-Toro?
when is the grapplesnake mako review dropping?!
I'll begin testing when my 2nd PA Rafa comes in so I can back to back it and M8
O toro is sooooo good!
Over confidential with the vcore 95?
I personally prefer Confidential. The VC95 is pretty soft and muted so I prefer something firmer and crisper. I prob would have liked the black version of O-Toro more but I had a very limited amount of that for testing.
Cordage MSV Focus Hex
Far too soft for a Vcore, can confirm. (VCore 98 Tour). Feels like the racket is wearing a sweatshirt.
What about otoro in a pure drive
I imagine it would work well... a setup I'll definitely be testing for the 2025 update.
Sick thumbnail
poly tour strike is the best
Yonex Alu Power, right?
Hello, plz test
Tourna Big Hitter Black 7 18/1.20
I'm interested your opinion about that strings.
also Tourna Quasi Gut
Tourna Quasi Gut for main and Tourna Big Hitter Black 7 - Hybrid Setup.
thanks in advance
W video!
Steve Johnson is legendary now?
college legend with a 72 match win streak
@@TennCom college legend, fair
6:08 goes on rant about flat backhands and then plays point of forehands only
What do you think about K-Pop?
I prefer either a full bed of Wasabi or a full bed of Caviar
@@TennCom Hm I was thinking it doesn't really help to have the square strings on the mains and that's why I thought it makes sense to mix them
not my cup of tea. Way to soft for me. tends to be a 'racket launcher' too. Not that suprising as being used to play most of my tennis hours with TBHS7T
yeah that would be a tough adjustment to make no doubt
@@TennCom not a bad string at all by any means. Spin is great, and as for as comfort goes, also excellent. Just not my type of string in general.
I'm just a sucker when it comes to strings. Like testing out new stuff to much haha.
Gonna give Pure Rush and Tour Sniper a go shortly, with sniper being a contender for possible switch. With it's characteristics, i believe it could be a string that's right up my alley
Title change!

Grapplesnake sucks arse, tried m8 ans snipah and it reeked for me
What poly's do you like? Perhaps that might explain the distaste for Grapplesnake.
