What are you all thinking of Starfield, and what other games should I be making drinks from?

Starfield is incredibly bland. I was calling it "Space Skyrim" after the first few hours, and it turns out that's too much praise. So much of the game seems shoehorned in, the story is ill-conceived and poorly realized. I haven't played enough Baldur's 3 or Armored Core 6, but maybe those games would be fertile for drinks?
Or maybe bad/mediocre games are the ones that most need drinks, because they help dull the edge of disappointment?
I wonder If Greg would try to make drunks from Deep Rock Galactic
Obviously the Monkey Island series! Grog! Grog! Grog! Grog!
@@ephemerallyfe Those drinks would be hella expensive for Greg to make...unless he had a coupon.
I fucking LOVE Starfield, tbh. The story is amazing, IMO, and the Sam romance is the cutest thing **ever**.
I thought the obvious joke with the Departure Time, given the combination of its name and description, is that it's not really one specific drink, it's just a way to quickly order "Hey, bartender, I want one more drink because I gotta go" and he makes you the quickest drink he can out of whatever he has closest at hand when you ask, presumably something cheap.
This is now official lore*
*Addendum: as far as I'm concerned
@@firestorm165more thought's been put into it that official lore
Its like “gimmie anything quick”
Between this and the Cyberpunk episode, game designers should just enlist the channel to create drinks like Easter eggs in the game and include the recipes as part of unlocking it
Recipes might be hard, though, considering some of these drinks were made with specialty liquors. Like you can say 'this is vodka and lime' or 'this is beer and whiskey' but if you have to specify a brand or get too specific, you run into issues with copyright. Then there's also the Jack Thompson holdouts who will claim giving cocktail recipes is encouraging 'kids' to drink (despite iirc Starfield being rated M?).
@MissingmyBabbu you could definitely work around that pretty easy, instead of juegermister you could just say liquorice liquor
@@MissingmyBabbu An M rating means 17 and up. In most places that's still between 1 to 3 years before legal drinking age. It's also a suggestion, not a requirement, and most parents are willing to ignore it for better or worse.
On the matter of specific brands, it's very easy to come up with parody names and similar visual designs on the in game art to elude to real world brands, similar to what fallout did with Nuka Cola, or how a ton of anime put "WacDonalds" restaurants into backgrounds of shots.
For example: adding a liqueur into a game called "Meister" with art of a familiar green bottle featuring a wolfs head on the label. It's legally distinct, but everyone is gonna know what it is.
I've already been coming up with drinks for my d&d campaign inspired by this show
I like this episode, but I was watching the mead episode a few days ago and you said to let you know if you should do more with that fermentation vessel and I think you should. Homebrewed ciders and ales would a fun addition to your repertoire.
I agree. With the cooler temps in south USA coming I would love to see some homemade ciders to warm up with.
Oh man, homebrewed cider would be great for this show
Agreed...
I'm almost convinced at this point with how often descriptions of cocktails in video games and their appearance not matching is just a long running joke.
If not, the day AAA game devs actually consult a mixologist when it comes to crafting alcoholic beverages in their game and actually matching them visually in a way that makes sense will be a shocking day and Greg will have a field day.
Which I feel like I need to add, I have been loving Starfield. It's been consuming my weekends for weeks now and given me a nice break I needed from Baldur's Gate.
If I'm not mistaken, Johnny Silverhand appearance was changed after his take to match how it looked like
Cyberpunk 2077 actually redesigned the model of the Johnny Silverhand to match the one I made on the show- which was absolutely mind blowing
The Chimera looked like liquid candy corn. Knowing that it is also delicious and holidy spice type flavored is almost enough to make me try making it for a Halloween/autumnal party... except for the part where it is an impossible drink that was the most complicated cocktail you've ever made for the show.
If you wanted to do something like that i think you’d probably want to premake a decent sized batch of each layer and then just keep them cooled so you could take them out of a fridge and layer them without having to go through all the steps every time
I feel like you could make a whole drink menu out of just the Chimera layers served either solo or floated two at a time in the different combinations.
At 13:35, Greg, I think you just described how cosplayers also feel when they pull of making a difficult outfit or nail a gravity defying wig! There's something so fun about looking at something someone made up that doesn't follow any actual replicable logic, whatever your medium of joy is!
Greg's words or wisdom: "you know, it's important to be happy with yourself."
I love when you make video game drinks. It is even better that you try to make them both screen accurate and try to stay as accurate to the ingredients as possible.
You did a great job recreating the drinks while making them actually functional for a bartender to make.
I can see Greg becoming an NPC in either a Starfield DLC or an upcoming Bethesda project. Voice acting and all. That would be so much fun :D
Let’s start a campaign!
I sure hope NPC Greg the bartender works in a place with three-breasted cocktail waitresses.
@@jfirth816That would have to be on mars.
@@knightaries13 Get your ass there.
I can see this too
I can't believe Greg actually pulled off the Chimera. Shows how much he's come and how more finely tuned his craft has become over the years.
That bethesda callout for the purple nurple-ass supernova you made felt personal, very personal. Good, anyway the way it blended actually looked more like spacedust than the screenshot. 10/10 would explode again.
I recognize that all the drinks you make aren't going to be blow my mind amazing...but let me say I appreciate the time and creativity you put into them, not to mention I've mixed many of them and none have been a disappointment. So thanks for all you do 🍻
I love the use of the Buddha's Hand fruit! I would absolutely love to see you use other exotic/lesser-known fruits in cocktails
Exotic fruit cocktail episode?
starfruit would be interesting
I would love to see what you could do with Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pepper Syrup or making stuff Dr. Pepper flavored. (Might have caught a theme there) Truly enjoy your content as a former bartender. Thank you.
Ah, the memories of adding a shot of amaretto to a glass of coke. Tastes just like Dr Pepper. Even better if complimented with a splash of lime juice!
I love Dr Pepper!!!!!!
A boilermaker made made with amaretto and some overproof rum also tastes like Dr. Pepper.
I've been trying to make a Dr Pepper drink at home too. We used to drink "flaming dr peppers" in college, which was Guinness, Amaretto, and a float of 151 rum. But black currant concentrate, amaretto, maraschino, cola... There's gotta be something good.
Same! I've been experimenting for ages to find a base spirit (other than plain vodka) that doesn't clash with Dr. Pepper!
Greg should SO open a bar at Comicon, and serve nothing but video game themed libations. Love the show Greg!!
Lemons and limes often get confused because of the origin of the citrus itself in which the term "lemon" was used to often denote citrus of all types rather than merely what we today think of as a traditional yellow lemon (hence why in many Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants, if you want a lime with your drink instead of a lemon you have to ask for "limón verde" - literally green lemon - rather than asking for a "limón" in your drink).
This was great, but I would love to see a part two that tackles the the drinks the player can make in the game. Colonel's Choice, the Lumberjack Julep, Disastrous Shipwreck, Very Heavy Water, and the Big Bloody Mary all sound interesting and I would love to see what you might make of them.
Honestly, I'd say the Fully Loaded Bloody Mary should just be one of the monstrosities you can get at Sobelman's in Milwaukee, because it's not fully loaded if it doesn't have an entire deep-fried chicken and a cheeseburger on sticks hanging out of the top of the glass. Sure, it's depicted in-game as being in one of those zero-G-safe pouches, but still...
Soju and shochu are different but Shochu has to be sold as soju due to silly laws on imports at least in California. The main difference is amount of sugars. Shochu typically has less and can be made of a singular ingredient or combination of 3 ingredients. Barley, Sweet Potato, and Rice. Pure barley shochu or Mugiwara Shochu is my personal favorite as it is crisp and clean in flavor with mild grain taste. Sweet potato shochu is too thick and flavored that it is one of the few things that makes me gag.
Schochu doesn’t have to be sold as Soju. Distributors choose to sell it as Soju because there are different taxes on liquor and wine, with liquor being taxed far more heavily. Soju is taxed as a wine, schochu is taxed as a liquor. If you sell your schochu as soju, you get a tax break. You are of course free to sell it as a liquor, if you so choose.
I agree that sweet potato shochu is pretty bad. My favorite is soba-shochu, from buckwheat. It is abut hard to find unfortunately.
just posted something similar, wasn't sure if some one knew the difference haha, So awesome and thank you for putting out there the difference
I have 3 different Viski glass sets and I absolutely love them. Won't lie, thought they were initially just a crap advertisement, but I pretty much use the glasses for all of my cocktails and the steel mug for my beer.
On a side note, you mentioned you would be talking about why we haven't had a new Midnight Local episode the last few weeks. Any update on that?
their geometric coups suck tho. hurricane glass is ok but feels really thin.
FINALLY! I missed these kinds of vids :D more drinks based on/from games please!!
You NAILED all these drinks! I'd proabably drink all of these. I've never seen that finger citrus, it looks so cool and I think I'd love the flavour.
These episodes are also a treat because of how excited you are by the concept and (when it works) how proud you are of your creations!
I do hope to see you do a part 2, would love to see your attempts on Bog’s Grog and velocity
These and also his take on what a real world Blend would be (without the hallucinogens of course lol)
This was great, definitley want to try that supernova. I would love to see you take on some of the drinks from the city Neon on Voii Alpha, like the Astral Lounge Sangria or blend from legrandes liqours
"And for the Aurora part of the drink, I simply add two splashes of the LSD bitters I made."
That supernova has to be one of the coolest drinks I've seen. Well done greg.
I'd be really interested to see BG3 themed companion cocktails, if you're so inclined!
That would be great
Glad to see the Sandkeg's Hide survived the move, along with other familiar faces!
Having never been able to get into Fallout or Elder Scrolls it's weird to say that Starfield is the one game I feel like I vibe with the most aesthetically, but I suspect by the time I get around to playing it Greg's edited drinks will be patched (or modded) into the game.
bethesda are really good at making mediocre games for someone else to fix
@@noahleach7690 Sure is easy to work when someone else has already put 98% of the effort in.
I don't know if Starfield will replace Skyrim in my habitual Bethesda obsession cycle, that would be very hard. But I'm pretty sure, unless something changes very drastically, that it will displace Fallout 4 very effectively. Been loving it. Sorry to hear it didn't click for you. Drinks turned out fun, though! Thank you. Love these kinds of videos, too (originally found the channel through the Cyberpunk videos)
Your pea blossom gin was an admirable attempt, but to get that blue blue blue, I'd recommend Empress blue gin, or Ink gin. Both are precisely ultramarine, without a hint of purple. I'm not sure if you could layer it so that the acid doesn't transform the bottom-most gin. I've never had the pleasure to work with either, but I suspect you could. As you said though, I'm sure it wouldn't last much longer than the beauty shot.
Cant speak for ink but empress is a pretty mediocre and over priced gin in ny opinion. To plain tasting for a gin imo
@@xoxonaotchan_7902Agreed, I wasn’t impressed with Empress Indigo! Besides, Empress is also made butterfly pea blossom anyway.
@@princessariamaybe dye the gin with brilliant blue fcf and add the pea blossom to the acid for the purple-blue fade?
It was rum, simple bacardi white rum with pea blossom flowers.
And it should have been aa liquor, a lavender liquor perhaps.. that is also purple.
The exotic fruits could be a blue curaçao
That pobably would taste like perfume but the looks would be on par.
9:48 Greg slipping into his "gangster" persona for a moment and it's glorious. 10/10 would get put in my place by Greg again
Great work with the Chimera. It looks really good.
I'm so glad you love making these, because they're some of my favourites to watch! The perk'a'cola vid is a classic and these are always so fun.
Love this episode! Was hunting down any bars in the game that I saw knowing you were going to do this. There are a few more signature drinks in the game beyond these that I found so I hope that you do a follow up episode to cover them in the future!
This is SO fun! I know BG3's now been out for.... 2 months? But there are a couple poisons that I think could be fun inspiration for cocktails. Malice comes to mind. Or a potion of feather fall or elixir of arcane cultivation if you want something more potable.
Fun Fact that I know, the most common combination of Chimera seen nowadays is, in fact, a Lion, a Goat, and then either a Cockatrice, which then also lends it's snake headed tail to the mixture, or simply JUST a snake.
The drinks look great! Really appreciate the time you put into this
2:10 you essentially replaced the vermouth with absinthe in a (excruciatingly dry) gin martini...
A coworker just told me they're buying an XBone S to play Starfield.. I tried to warn them in the most excited-for-what-you-think-you'll-like kinda way
Greg making Cocktails from games with a target visual and rules is similar to writing a Sonnet.
Sometimes, certain kinds of restrains boosts creativity, and it's a fact!
That was a nice fun episode! Love when you get creative over the few hints you got!
I don't have any videogame ideas, since I have no time for gaming and when I had I wasn't much interested, but every time you attempted the results were memorable, so I trust the other suggestions
I appreciate you keeping it on topic nowadays. I think it makes sense now that you've got the other formats with more opportunity for that stuff
been waiting for this one! thanks Greg
Greg: ...and let's jam some mint on top.
Nice to hear you enjoy making these, because they really are my favourites. Not because I know the pop-culture, but for exactly what you said about the challenge of it.
some really cool sounding and looking drinks in this one. loved it.
These are my favorite kind of videos! Thank you
Love the videos, makes me want my own at home bar
Absolutely love these kind of episodes.
I am fascinated with this approach. You have a great balance between art and science going.
RE: The departure time, you said it yourself "It gets better after you've left"
I love the fact you did this (been playing Starfield for about a month, and loving it.)
I have seen some of these recipes in the game, and always wondered how they would translate into the real world.
Thanks for doing this, because now I want to try some of these myself!
The Chimera is my favorite just because it is an experience that is more of a symphony that requires the user to go on a journey in the world you made for them rather than a lazy drink and experience. You can sip each section and then go full chaos mode and mix the crap together. That, to me, isn't something you drink all the time but is definitely something that would be worth paying for.
More Starfield drinks from the Vulture's Roost bar computer on Jaffa IV in the Jaffa system, typed exactly as written in-game. Listed as 'Shots and Specials':
Keep the Tab Gunnin'
- 2 part OJ
- 1 part rum
- Mysterious animal tusk (this stuff tastes wild! Has some other properties too...)
Crush tusk and muddle with a bit of salt. Mix with third of juice. Take remainder of juice and mix with rum, then float that on top.
'Ole RagTag
This one's for pops. Man always wants to try what you're drinkin, then he doesn't take more than a swig. I wasn't feeling quite myself the other day, so I did what I do best. Mixed a bit of everything we got and my day got a lot better. Look, trust me they'll love it and its a great way to balance inventory when some products get low cuz you can change this one up every time.
Moonwalker
- 2 part soda
- 1 part top shelf dark liquor of choice
- Crushed special leaves
-3 drops of that neon fish oil. Careful here, its potent.
For our more refined killers. Make salt rim with crushed leaves. Mix soda and liquor, drop fish oil and gently swirl on surface. Sprinkle a bit more crushed leaves on top.
Highered Head
Mix cheap vodka and some syrup, then add a drop of Aurora.
The Odds...and Ends
Tall shot, half well whisky, half well rum.
Shochu is the only drink I ever actually got noticeably tipy from, I usually just doze off from booze but the shochu hit me something fierce after it pretty much tasted like hard soda.
Was waiting for this one
I'm glad you really enjoy this type of video because It's my favorite type that you do. I know they don't always do well for you but thank you for this one. For me I don't even have to have connection to the game or show you are working from.
Fingered Citron or Budda Hand make a great 'cello as in Lemoncello. However, if you are going to cady the peel after ward you really do need to some of the pith away and not just cut discs like I did.
I have been waiting for this since the day the game came out! Thank you Greg!
"The Chimera" [FMAB flashbacks intensify]
I thought about this yesterday glad you made it!
Brilliant episode! Super creative, Greg.
I've been waiting for this video since the game came out! So exciting!!
That chimera was neat. Well done. Also Tiki glasses/cups are just fun. Always love em.
We love it when you do this stuff, too, Greg.
love your show, not sure if anyone already mentioned it and just putting it out there for educational purposes.
Shochu and Soju are very different however, I understand why so many people mix it up. for 1, it is spelled similar and 2 because it is spelled similarly, Shochu is often spelled as Soju when it is imported in the early days. However the two are very different. Best way to know the difference is that one bottle will use Japanese while the other uses Korean.
Soju(korean) is like a vodka that is sometimes lightly sweetened. It is a spirit that is distilled a few times to get a high alcohol % then diluted down to 12-30% alcohol. So it is a nearly tasteless spirit unless sweetened heavily or lightly. 30% soju is more often used to infusing ingredients.
Shochu follows a similar process beginning like whiskey and possibly a white rum if not mistaken. I know you are very familiar with rum and I am not.
Shochu(Japan/one of Japan's secrets for their spirits) starts with a Mash that can be Barley, Rice, Sugars, or Sweet potatoes. Though it doesn't have to be one of those 4. It is distilled only once using a pot still and only a pot still usually producing something around 40% then cut with water to bring it down to around 20-25%. Distilled only once to retain more of the flavors from the original ingredient.
I love that intdustrial ice shaver! I used to use my grandparents machine and made coke slushees!
The Fingered Citron would make a great garnish for a Halloween cocktail, looks like witches fingers. Just add some fake nails! :D
I really love watching Greg be creative and have fun with projects like this! Supernova for the Win!!
I was staring at the Viking Blud the entire video wondering what that was there for. Not disappointed.
From what little I understand about soju. I almost feel like the Chimera is a drink designed to be admired, before instantly throwing it all back in one gulp.
You know Greg, now that you've done impossible, you should try to make a rainbow drink with all of its colors layers, and perhaps you'll end up in Guinness book while doing it.😂
Make it thoroughly chilled and call it "The Bifrost".
I’d love to see some Baldur’s gate 3 themed drinks if possible!
Working on that! Actually, might be doing a whole set of D&D episodes.
@@howtodrink Nice to hear, Looking forward to it!
The intro music to your videos has always made me think of Bioshock and I have no idea why. Love your videos my dude. Hope all is good.
The Chimera was like watching magic happen. Wild and very impressive
Thank you!
Highly recommend getting a 5lbs CO2 canister, regulator, and quick connect adaptor to carbonate stuff with gas. It's kind of expensive to get going, but when you consider a sodastream refill is like $40+, it pays for itself in a few months if you carbonate a lot. A top up on the canister is under $20 and is literally two 710mL bottles a day for over a year.
Alternatively, there's probably a mod you can do to your drinkmate to adapt a CO2 canister into it.
"You don't need an industrial grade ice shaver" - Yes I do... I really do.
Excellent episode
I LOVE THE BETHESDA SHADE. "ASK ME" LMAO
I think these are some of your most inspired episodes. I would love to see more BTS of the process of creating unconventional cocktails like this.
I made the New Arrival but skipped the Chinola float and I have to say it's still really good. It was kind of eye-opening to see how well malty whisky and Campari go together.
Got me dying with the title Greg. A+
I love this show formula. Always cool to watch you build drinks video companies know nothing about.
i love seein greg having fun :]
I've been waiting for him to dive into Starfield drinks!
Ooh I am gonna have to do this! I just need to get a bar installed in my house :D these look amazing!
very soft spoken episode today. regardless, i love the content
Even the drinks in Bethesda games are wonky, kinda off or slightly nonsensical. Great work conquering them despite that! :D
Imagine the clipping.
I just realized I’ve been watching this channel so long I’m finally old enough to buy the ingredients for the drinks you make, time to get drunk
The chimera looks so cool
When you introduced the chimera cocktail I had thought I heard Camaro, and now I need a muscle car cocktail themed episode from you (Dunno what that would entail, but it sounds fun)
Damn, that Chimera is impressive! If I wasn't already following, that definitely would've been an instant Follow from me!
In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was within me an invincible summer.
Re: the Super Nova; What could be more iconic of Bethesda than messing up the execution of a good idea that the player has to fix through modding.
Hahahahaha!
there are allot more drinks in starfield via the crafting mechanic, might be fun to do some of those too. im sure theres a wiki list of them somewhere so you dont have to paly the game since that seems out.
the chimera was gorgeous.
Those drinks seemed really darn good!
Random suggestion: you should do a whole episode about yuzu juice. I just had a yuzu daquiri (classic daquiri, just sub yuzu juice for lime juice) and it knocked my socks off. I'd love to see an episode centered around what you could do with classic citrus drinks (or otherwise!) with some yuzu juice.
Making drinks is like fun chemistry!
Would love to see a part 2 and see how you'd like "Bog's Grog"
Love to see the Tipsy Bartender make these too to see the difference.
I waited and was not disappointed.
