I feel like Perez was the wild card in Mercedes strategy and played a perfect wingman this past weekend, he should have gotten more attention after the race, despite having a bit of a boring race himself lol. Battles between strategies in less than optimal conditions always make for the best races.
Boring? He was involved in by far the most exciting part of the race
Perez had the best part of the race, that wasn't boring at all
Perez created the most exciting part of the race where he somehow managed to keep Lewis behind him.
If Perez who had to defend against Lewis had a boring race, what the other drives had!?
Perez should've definitely be the driver of the day. Makes no sense that Sainz - with an equipment you should fight for podium - gets the driver of the day with lucky positioning at the end...
Just life. No one has it all figured out, no matter how experienced. And in a dynamic environment, these things happen.
Yeah and it is cringe and annoying seeing the people that can’t understand this and just spam “cRyMiLtOn” and “CrYbAbY” while it is perfectly OK for Max or Kimi to be frustrated and complain.

If Lewis had pitted when first asked he would've had time to catch up and tyres would be safe ... Hindsight is a wonderful thing ... Ocon's tyres were delaminated and could've gone at any point... it's a shared team decision
Mayby it’s lucky Ocon got lapped. That’s one lap he didn’t have to do.
I think Hamilton's tires were in much better shape because of problaby the best downforce of the whole grid... Ocon's still had the tread but he also had a spot from a lockup... Same lockup could've happened to Hamilton in the last laps too though.

It's sad that Bottas won for Mercedes but everyone is focused on hamilton and how things went wrong for him.
He is Mercedes
Because he is the contender for the championship and Bottas isn't.
Bottas has never been a contender for the individual championship. He won, and he can win, but if Lewis did not get the engine change grid penalty, you know Hamilton would be up there beating him. Hamilton is overall a more consistent driver.
This race however, his frustration got the best of him and he pitted too late to work back into a better position.
Championship contender so obviously the focus is here.
Not everyone, just the rabid Hamilton fanbois at Sky and in the UK. If you're watching an English language official F1 vid to do with Hamilton, you know its told with a set of blinkers on. Hamilton is a great driver - but I think he made a mistake by not listening to his team. They have the 'bigger picture', and as he said at the end, it's a team sport. Great to see the pressure piling up with competitive cars from other teams - it puts Hamilton's talent into perspective. As George Russel showed last year, any decent driver in that car could dominate and win.
I feel like they should've pitted as soon as Perez pitted, Lewis had the pace to catch up Perez within 1-2 laps after pitting, he was the fastest on track before he ran out of tyres.
Or don't pit him at all
@@Mrdredz0071 he'd have finished the same position if they didn't pit him. Ocon was lapping much slower the last few laps and he's tyres didn't take the punishment Hamilton where . He should have pitted when the team called him in

@@Mrdredz0071 and have him be 3 seconds a lap slower than everybody else and risk a puncture
The rain came back in the later stages of the race, Lewis tyres were GONE by lap 45. Lewis was the FASTEST on track, he could've overtaken everyone ahead of him, but Bottas, you don't gamble when you're the fastest car on the track.
If he would’ve boxed the first time Bono told him to come in for Inter’s he would have had p4 and even a chance at p3. Engineers have all the data and a right 95% of the time
agree
he woldnt pass perez so p3 was gone foe sure. and just maybe pass leclrec he had great pace and they would have gone through the graining part at the same time so no advantage to any of them
I do agree that engineers are typically right, but when the conditions are like this, it gets a little tricky. Engineers have a whole lot more information and are able to look at the race from the outside in, but the driver is the only one that can have a feel for what the car is actually performing like. Especially in semi-wet conditions, it can be hard to find that middle point of agreement between driver and engineer.
@@JpForrReal either way drivers only know how well they feel in the car. they don't have stats on position intervals, forecasted tire degradation of their opponents, opponent lap times etc. Like OP said 95% of the time engineers are able to make better informed, DATA based decisions. there are hundreds of other variables that need to be considered and drivers simply aren't able to process all the necessary information.

I’m new to F1 this year, but this is exactly why Hamilton rubs me the wrong way. When he wins it’s all about “great job team!” and when he loses he always blames others.
Apparently Merc has had a long period of dominations with the car’s speed; it’s nice to see his true character come out when backed up against a corner and facing equal competition.

Watch Lewis interview after the race...
@@kindredxxix4578 for a new fan you do seem to have a strong animosity. from the top of your head give me when hamilton blamed the team when he lost. by the way if you watched the race live button had made a comment about how hamilton does not have idea he is about to lose 2 place when he was boxing, which happened to be true , and when he find that out, he ask the team why they gave the spot up in an angrily manner, which is understandable, being on the heat of the movement and all that.
this race never was for Lewis, he lost almost a pit stop time with tsunoda and then with perez, even if he had not pitted, rb and ferrari would have increase the pace and reach ham, the biggest victory for lewis was the 5 sec penalty for gasly, he would have finished p6 or even p7 with that late pit stop, but moreover, the biggest defeat of hamilton was penalizing, it would have been an easy 1-2 with verstappen or leclerc 3rd, now hamilton has another dilemma, he did not change the other components, will he be forced to penalize again or twice on the next races? will a component fail bringing a race to an end and scoring 0 points while verstappen is on points or podiums places? bro I tell you, this championship is the most exciting since 2012

Moral of the story, listen to the strategy team when they tell you to come in. They employ an entire team of people to work this stuff out
Yeah no, it’s more nuanced than that. Teams get strategies wrong all the time, especially when track conditions are changing.
Barrichello in germany gp disagrees
Not always. Remember last year at this exact venue? Hamilton made the conscious decision to stay out even though others were faster on the new intermediates initially. (Probably part of why Hamilton wanted to stay out). However, the track this year is a lot different than last year, and Hamilton last year was definitely not pushing anywhere near as he did this year, so Hamilton was completely in the wrong in this year.
@@USMCLP yeah no, it's more nuanced than that. Drivers get strategies wrong all the time, especially when track conditions are changing. @@Kevinschart So what? In this particular situation, the strategy was doomed regardless of whether Hamilton stayed out or not.
And since you’re trying to reverse my argument against against me, you want actual further nuance? The team has messed up the strategy for both drivers multiple times, look at France and Monaco this year. And Hamilton won the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix by consciously staying out the pit lane.

I don't know what is Toto talking about btw, before pitting he had more than 10 secs of advantage over Perez and had about 10 laps left from the race, so Perez would've needed to do 1 sec less a lap than Ham, so even if he caught him Leclerc wouldn't have been able to considering how much his pace dropped after Lewis pitting. Hamilton got told in perfectly plain english that the numbers said box alot earlier than when he eventually boxed. kinda makes me wish he stuck to his gut, cause i think he had used more of his tires than Occon at that point, and would have eighter limped to the pits loosing alot of time, or blown a tire.

Are you serious last year clearly shows that he should've stayed out, he was cathing verstappen even
lulu: Listen man I'm a 7 time world champ, I know everything.
"I work as a team" right. That's what it sounded like.
"I work as a team" and people wonder why many don't take him seriously
Things like these happen in racing all the time, it's more the media that hypes things to get more views. Both this race and last race with Lando, so much unnecessary drama and toxic fans(more like haters for a person than a fan for the sport) use this drama as fodder to spread their own hatred. Seen this many times with both Lewis and max fans.
No toxic drama here, just strategy. They just didn't pit when they had to 😁
@@baptistejungers1231 that's a blunder on the part of mercedes and ham. I'm talking about the reaction to that blunder that is dramatized. You should have seen the British press...😬
Haven't seen any toxicity actually with this. More intrigue.
How can you be so rude and disrespectful to the team that has literally gifted you 6 WDC
I see where your coming from, but it’s impossible to not get wound up whilst pulling 5Gs for an hour and a half and not getting the result you wanted
this guy's teamwork is incredible
Team work is everything, win or lose
Is it Me or does this feel like its Made by Netflix
Hahaha yeah I think the same
The strategists at Mercedes have been right far more often than Lewis has been. Would it have worked? We’ll never know.
The tone of voice in the ‘thinking time’ comment from Bono says a lot
one of those situations where doing nothing vs doing something doesn't make much difference and just shifts risks and opportunities around. There's no best decision and there shouldn't be I'm right you are wrong blame. It's painful to see a champion contender falling into this trap but I think playing safe (i.e. changing the tires) is the best interest in many aspects. Stay positive and carry on to the next race
That's the backdrop of always being in front and knowing nothing about strategy making, like rest of the field do efficiently.
Lewis: "i work as a team"
Team: box box box, new inters way to go
Lewis: I don't think i will 👀
Verstappen fanboy spotted.
@@Firebolt1729 hahaha for sure bro
As much as I’m a verstappen fan, Lewis’ decision to stay out would have been much better for him. If anyone can handle a no-pit stop race, it was him.
@@kartikeybhatia1423 he would have risked DNF for 1 extra position and most likely he would have still dropped down further down in the list just because his tyre life was gone and his pace was already dropping, Ocon did it but he did not push the tyres early on so much and he still lost places and alot of time in the last 10-5 laps
@@FaceFish9 100% F1 is a marathon not a sprint. you have to be conservative to stay in the fight. gambling will simply put you out the points. Lando learned this the hard way.
0:31 what a voicecrack hahaha and 1:50 as well hahahhahaha
Yeah xD
The music is Finding Ganesha by John 00 Fleming
Had Lewis followed more Mercedes' calls than his gut feeling, he'd have won this championship
Well, Mercedes let him out on a 40 laps-old tyres in Abu Dhabi.........
Hamilton this time had a tough race, Perez didn't make his life easy, I realize he was upset.
Perez should be more upset he is 5th with the 1st or 2nd best car
It was majorly Lewis's fault, he should have pitted when the team told to do so
@@stephenweewoo yeah cry more
@@dmv3121 why would I cry, my favorite driver is fighting for the championship and has 100 wins and 7 championship. What is there to cry over 😂😂😂😂
@@stephenweewoo 😂 that guy thought you supported perez
Lewis has nobody to blame but himself.
seeing lewis angry makes me happy
MERCEDES will miss him badly in the future when Bottas got out, because Russel will not play 2 fiddle to Hamilton.
Hamitlon is a legend but he demands a lot of attention and always doubts if his team is right.
He hasn't no 100% trust in his teams. Actions speaks louder then words.;).
Lewis: Complaining about his tires all the time
Team: Box box
Lewis: Why did you bring me in to change my tires ?
he literally said he was fine
i didn’t like how he blamed his team when he thought he was smarter than the team and didn’t pit.
Tyres aside… those voice cracks are gold haha
I guess the DTS makers took over this account.
So intersting to hear the discussion. Lewis never used to be so rude to his engineer. Hope that changes.
How was he rude? I felt that is was a difference of opinion and frustration, not being rude but just my opinion
where was he rude? he disagreed. do you come in here when lando or max are cursing their teams. just shut up dude.
Happens , that's racing
Let this year be a successful start in the race for the dream, let the victory at the finish be sure.
I wish I would have watched this !
Showing this video is like rubbing a salt to the already salty Lewis Hamilton fanboys.
Writing such a comment is like punching the LH fans in the face
???
You should to watch max fans excuses when max lose...
This is just such a hateful comment. Grow up. Insulting people to push your imaginary narrative just lame.
Oh how the turntables
Tire strategy dilemma is fun to watch in middle of the race.
