The incredibly competent execution of this culmination of very stupid plot lines embodies everything I love about community.
Exactly my thoughts - they took silly plots A, B, and C, and made them climax at the exact same moment via music and made it so much more hilarious and powerful... (just starting to watch Community for the first time)

Community was a good sitcom before this, but this scene was the first hint that Community was going to take the sitcom format to new places.

You’re misunderstanding. I’m saying that in a previous scene, she said she was just going to go with the cards (disregarding his advice). He said something along the lines of “don’t let anyone know I was involved”.
You can clearly see Shirley went through with her plan to use cards and it backfired. Pierce still showed up to help out. Probably knew she was going to bomb. THEN she uses his advice. But he showed up when she wasn’t going to.

They really did Pierce wrong by never really redeeming his character while he was on the show.
Chevy chase is a terrible person lots of times but his character is great. He really does like Shirley

Best “Bromance” in TV history, no one can Chang my mind. The way this song still gives me all the feels, (especially after watching the Lava World episode,) is a testament to how streets ahead this show was.

Despite loving this show, it is hard to compare any bromance to Turk and JD.
Psych bromance between Shawn & Gus has this beat imo def check it out if you haven’t! But Troy and abed are iconic
So not only did they have an A, B and C plot around the same theme of people showing up for people and showing they care (during an Earth Day themed episode no less), they had them all culminate and tie together with a song about loving someone from a distance and having faith that you're being loved back in return. This show, honestly.
That moment when you realize that literally every main character is paired with someone during this scene (Shirly with Pierce, Chang with his lady, Abed with Troy, even Britta observing the dance scene with Annie). Everyone except Jeff who is content to simply stand off to the side alone and smile and two people finding love (even though it didn't last).

Can we talk about how great an actor Donald Glover is at 1:02? Without missing a beat he perfectly executes a glance that states "if you tell anyone I'll kill you"

i don't want to burst the bubble, but the singing in shows is always done in the music studio, they are just on playback when acting. You would not get that neat sound of the voice otherwise. But he is a great actor nonetheless!

How is Danny Pudi merely featured, when this is a true duet? They both have the same amount of lyrics to sing. Not to mention that Pudi begins the song.

It's not a Childish Gambino song if y'all were wondering! Sure this cover might be released as a single (I haven't seen so though so not sure). But it's originally from the Disney animation An American Tail -- sang by a character called Fievel -- which is why the producers chose this song, or chose to name the rat Fievel (who knows what came first).

I love that the emotional climax is “Here’s Brownies!”
I don't care if you guys disagree with me, this is the best scene of the show. It encapsulates troy and abed's friendship, Shirley succeeding, Pierce helping others, Britta seeing Jeff's emotional side, and Jeff's emotional side. Also, the best part, Chang being happy and screaming on the pitch.

Same with me. I recommend this masterpiece but very few watch it. But the ones who do fall in love it just like I did. And I'm very happy that there are others like me who understand and appreciate the quality of this beautiful show. This is a show that will stand the test of time..

I’m not saying this is the best moment of the entire series, because I don’t believe that to be true. But this is probably my favorite part of the entire series.
No ones talking about how a woman got a standing ovation on a brownie presentation, i'm not complaining i just think it's hilarious and no one has pointed it out.

Honestly, this contains one of my favorite Jeff moments. Just the way he is so proud of helping Chang and his Wife reunite (1:55) is just so underrated in my opinion. Just the subtle smile says so much, great job to Joel Mchale who makes Jeff's expression say 1,000 words.
He is pretty great but appreciating a weird meta character like Abed (love him!) is much easier to people than picking subtleties

New to Community (thanks Netflix!) and this was my favorite moment so far (second is Abed and Troy's rap). From 1:30 to about 2:00... there's something about the culmination of three pretty weak and silly plots, the on-pitch Chang scream, the bad dancing, the ridiculous kissing, the smile on Troy's face as the music swells, and Britta's head-tilt that I find amazing.
That was Ken Jeongs first onscreen kiss, too.
Yup. The Britta head tilt and the beginning of her path to reevaluating Jeff that it signifies is such a subtle (it’s not even in focus!) but important moment that it demonstrates the absolute mastery of craft the show would go on to pull off again and again.
Awww, this cuts out Abed's sweet "Thank you" at the end!
This scene gives me CHILLS
The songs in this show NEVER MISS. Somewhere Out There and Kiss From a Rose all connect the plots together and sound incredible, the opener to season 3 and the songs in the Glee episode are so funny and catchy, and Troy and Abed's rapping is insane.

@@sharmainemararac2566 According to what people say, he didn't. Chevy Chase complained about how racist his character was, the writing and the long hours. He's apparently a dick but so is Dan Harmon.
Apparently, what he said was, "What next, is Pierce going to say 'n****r' !?" Which is what got him dismissed from the set.
People involved said that Pierce was very frustrated with the hours and the character direction ( plus Dan Harmon)
Dan Harmon: I'm always killing everyone's buzz. If i had been on the ball. If I not had the crew behind schedule. If i wasn't calling people last minute going guess what we're gonna do a music mash-up thing....um... you know if i had this idea a week earlier we could've done something with this sequence that would have made you cry.
To me this scene is already absolute perfection
That look Troy gives Abed makes me cry a little every time I see it because then I think about all their love and good times and how Troy had to leave him later on in his life.
This is the moment that made me fall in love with the show and solidified me as a fan of Community. Not only because I'm an 80s kid and have a deep nostalgia for An American Tail, but because it just takes a bunch of goofy crap and ties it all up together in a heartwarming moment, and as the cherry on top it concludes with Troy panicking and squealing hilariously, which almost ruins the sentimental moment until you realize he overcame his fear to help Abed. Those two really are the heart & soul of the series.
You know how some people say they have a *comfort show?* Well, this is my *comfort scene*
i think this scene completely swept me off my feet, & I knew that Community was a show that was worth my time. it's so close to my heart now, and I will happily stream it over and over again.

this scene was practically It for me. the perfect show. the subtlety of tying each plot thread through a song that had, really, no relation to any of the situations in such a way that is funny yet still musically well composed- like Chang’s scream towards the end of the song, where he literally HARMONISES with Troy and abed. I will never not obsess over all these small details.
This is my absolute favorite moment in the show. Almost brought me to tears on first viewing and still does every time. Truly a brilliant piece of television.

My two favorite things in this scene are Pierce helping Shirley and Troy came to help Abed although he was afraid of the rat. It melted my heart. I first cried to this when I first saw it because it was so nice😍

Earlier in the episode, Pierce tells Shirley to always end a presentation with a Nicholson quote, so it’s a callback to that.

I know everyone says it, but this episode, and especially this scene, is what made me realize I would be rewatching Community on a constant loop. An American Tail is a movie I grew up watching, and it seriously brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of my childhood. I've rewatched this scene thousands of times. It's amazing.
This is my favorite musical moment of the entire series. What an amazing arrangement by Ludwig Göransson.

I love how soft and comforting the background music at 0:55 is and the swell at 1:47. This song just feels so good.
This is absolutely my favorite moment of community. It blends 3 separate and completely ridiculous plot lines. Showing the beginning of Troy and Abeds friendship, starting to show Jeff growing as a character with the shot of Britta noticing his smile, and redeeming Pierce in my eyes with the moment between him and Shirley and creating a jam of a musical moment.
This is the new context for this song in my head. Grew up watching American Tail... but now if I hear this song instead of mice singing at the moon I picture Ken Jeong screaming at the top of his lungs mid tango.

I just finished watching the show for the first time, and for the first time I instantly want to go back and watch it from the start striaght away. No show has made me feel like that before.
I get the stupidest grin on my face every time I watch this episode.

I hope the movie has a musical montage that’s kind of reminiscent of this. I feel like this is one of the signature moments of the show.
This scene is not only the platonic ideal of TV writing with the A, B, and C plots all reaching their conclusions in an emotionally harmonious and resonant way, it’s also incredibly authentic to the vibe of a community college campus after dark. Just these small dramas that are everything to the participants and nothing to anyone else playing out across a night class, an otherwise empty hallway, and a random Cultural Festivity in the “cafeteria” that will very shortly get overtaken by a Subway and stop serving anything but their terrible sandwiches. RIP Richland Community College Cafeteria, I still get random cravings for those terrible burgers

This scene encapsulates the magic of Dan Harmon's Community. No show of comedy on television for the past 25 or so years (save for The Simpsons) has allowed a viewer to laugh out loud, think about life, and feel such an extreme warmth and tenderness all at once. Community had something special to it that was a cut above other sitcoms. It was more than a sitcom, really - it had 3 dimensional characters who leap off the screen and make you feel part of, well, a community.
I've never seen a single epsiode of community.. I've been coming back to this clip for like 6 years now

Before this episode I was on the fence on how I felt about the show, but this scene is what made me truly love this show

Even when it’s being presented in a more comedic fashion, this song still somehow manages to make me misty eyed.
Community almost always started in the same place.. the study room and witty, often antagonistic banter.. but where each episode went from there was so wild and chaotic. They ripped on so many different tropes, so many different stories.. it was a great show.
The musical composition here is a great addition I don't think enough people are admiring.
This was the exact moment I fell in love with this show.
This is when I knew Community was something else.
Calling this scene an episode highlight is doing it a disservice. This is a highlight of my LIFE
