  • In this lecture, I introduce the Boltzmann equation which is the conservation law for the PDF. The BGK collision operator is also introduced.

    Professor, what is the significance of the relaxation time(Tau) ? what exactly are we doing by assuming SRT model ? My understanding is we are trying to relate f to feq but couldn't figure out the relevance. Hope you can clarify on this, thank you.

    Sir, what are the preliminaries before watching this playlist? I am not getting these equations basically, for instance, the conservation equation in this video.

      Ideally you should have completed undergraduate level courses on fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. A course on transport phenomena can also suffice.

    Professor why we considering the 0th, 1st and 2nd moments with microscopic velocity? why not position x_i ?

      Because the distributions are written in such a manner that moments have to be taken with microscopic velocity only
