And Basil... Look at the last photographs... he's the one who had the idea. To take Mari's corpse to the backyard and make it look like she had killed herself.
That's why Basil couldn't forgive himself, and kept begging Sunny for forgiveness.

I lost my mom when I was really young and this game deals with the concept of grief perfectly cause people always say "oh it gets better with time" but it really doesn't. No matter how long ago you lost them, it will always hurt. This game is beautiful and I'm so glad you took the time to play it. Now to watch it and cry :(

A detail I love when it comes to Basil is how two of his key traits is his ideas and his ability to keep a secret, which aren't bad on their own, but directly lead to the events of the game. We see in the flashbacks that the violin was Basil's idea, and when he asks if Sunny has a crush on Aubrey he promises to keep his lips sealed. When Mari dies, it's Basil that comes up with the plan. For the next four years, Basil doesn't say anything to anyone about what happened. When Sunny ruined the photos in the album, Basil didn't tell anyone, allowing himself to be mercilessly bullied so that nobody blames Sunny. Granted there is a hefty amount of denial on Basil's end when it comes to what Sunny is guilty of, but he still keeps the secret out of fear of Sunny getting in trouble.
It's amazing how character traits that are often considered good are flipped around in this game to create a nightmare that could have been prevented if people actually communicated with each other (not assigning blame, they were literal children). If Sunny had spoken up earlier about the way that Mari's perfectionism was hurting him, they might not have gotten into the fight in the first place. So while I don't think anyone involved should be blamed for what happened, it's an important lesson to learn.
Kel continues to be my favorite character because he's the only one who actually speaks his mind, despite being mistreated for doing so. When you go to the graveyard with just Kel, he tells you that the only thing that got Hero out of his year-long depression was Kel sitting and talking to him, even though it made Hero furious with him. The only reason Sunny left his house was because Kel didn't give up on him, and he didn't stop trying to protect Basil even when facing down a gang of bullies (which results in him getting beat up if you don't have the pepper spray). I love Kel.

  • @Asehpe
    @Asehpe 4 месяца назад +39

I think everybody says Kel and Aubrey kind of had a crush on each other (with Aubrey playing the tsundere). But if you look at the few scenes in which Aubrey and Sunny were alone (like on the little swings)... I think he was blushing in her presence, and she seemed to be always looking away and trying to conceal some interest in him. (Also, in his fantasy world, Sunny seemed to make Aubrey always feel happy when she saw him...)

Sad this playthrough is over!! It's been so fun to watch and see first time reactions. Omori is one of our favourite games, and we're so glad Shelby tried discovering everything she could, there's been a lot she did that most people miss, so it's been nice getting reactions to those bits! While there was also some bits she missed, that can't be helped and is expected! We guessed she was gonna get the true ending early on purely based on her reactions and playstyle, and we had fun watching her play!!! Thanks for being so incredible and creating such an enjoyable playthrough!
Also, in response to the end bit referring to how the 5 represent the 5 stages of grief, and Hero being depression, that is easier to tell from a few interactions(mainly just 1) that you missed-! There's a few interactions you did get where it's slightly implied, but the one that kinda sets in store of Hero being depression is one you didn't get, so it's fair you didn't understand that one- There's a chance this was explained by chat or someone in stream after the end of this, but wanted to state in case, plus there's a chance someone here might not know so this could help someone else-!!
But anyway yeah, this playthrough was great, sad it's over but it was bound to happen

I don't know if you realized... Sonny didn't simply push Mari. They were having an argument in front of the stairs. Look at the photo, she looks angry at him. He got angry too, and she tried to block his way. He pushed her out so he could go down. But ... she had a weak knee remember? ... she fell.
It was all an accident... he did push her, but he didn't mean... for that... to happen...

    • @ShubbleLive
      @ShubbleLive  4 месяца назад +29

yeah we talked it out on stream that it didn't seem like an outright push, but rather an altercation in a very bad position on the stairs plus her weak knee, he wasn't meaning specifically to push her down them. it's just a horrible accident :/

    • @Asehpe
      @Asehpe 3 месяца назад +6

@@ShubbleLive I guess when you start the game, and in most of our lives we don't expect a stupid accident to have such life-changing consequences. Yet it does. There are such cases in real life.

    • @notnotandrew

He clearly didn't mean to kill her but the evidence points to him shoving her deliberately in a fit of anger. The armchair room photo (not coincidentally, this is the one photo in the truth sequence that you can skip or deny, and it requires you to screw in the light bulb symbolizing your openness to seeing the truth) shows him with a completely outstretched arm plainly shoving her straight down the stairs. Of course he didn't mean to kill her (which is why he was so distraught in the bedroom), and it wasn't premeditated, but I see many people saying it was just an accident due to her bad knee which, somewhat poetically, seems to me like exactly the sort of coping and denial that Sunny would come up with.

I may be wrong but I think when Sunny and Mari were arguing Sunny tried to get away (specifically down the stairs) but Mari decided to block him and he to push her out of the way so he could get away but instead yk Mari fell down the stairs and landed on the violin.
(Honestly now that I think of it maybe Sunny wanted to get down the stairs to look at the violin regretting that he threw it and wanted to see if he would be able to use it still)

*WARNING: VERY LONG COMMENT + DETAILED SPOILERS*
This is the first comment of 3 total. A lot of the stuff I've included in these 3 comments isn't very accessible and it'll be hard to fully understand everything. The resources are pretty high level analysis and they are extremely lengthy. It will take a lot of thinking just to get to that point. I personally spent weeks just digesting the endings. My point is, take it slow. Omori is a huge rabbit hole and many people choose to not bother with it. There is no point in dissecting a video game to this extent if you lose interest while exploring the possibilities.
Ok before I yap, i just wanted to put these Omori animations first because they’re just so fricking good that I want to give them more attention. Here are 5 of my favourite animations in ascending order of schizophrenia (which is the order I recommend):
    ruclips.net/video/j2m_RdYAb0I/видео.html (Sunny Route)
    ruclips.net/video/sxpkEXQwPQ8/видео.html (Hikikomori Route)
ruclips.net/video/xDtCsHzie4s/видео.html (Alternate Universe post Good Ending)
    ruclips.net/video/KpN4CuOr53M/видео.html (Sunny and Basil)
    ruclips.net/video/6k0SdOEobRc/видео.html (Basil)
There are dozens if not hundreds of animations with the same amount of effort put in with many having the same quality. I have compiled a list of honourable mentions in a reply to this comment but you may find some others to be even better than the ones I have found, so I encourage you to search for more.
This playthrough was so good from start to finish. Your reactions, your emotions were all so on point and I could tell you also really enjoyed the game. You’ve discovered so many little secrets everywhere, some of which even I had no idea about, and that was incredibly satisfying. Hopefully this comment can connect the dots and help you and other viewers appreciate the game even more. I’ll talk about a lot of lore and then a bit of stuff that people make.
(Note that here I am using the fandom wiki because the alternative is seriously lackluster in content. Compare the pages on the underwater highway: omori.fandom.com/wiki/UNDERWATER_HIGHWAY , omori.wiki/Underwater_Highway . This means unfortunately we have to look at the fandom wiki.)
I forgot this video existed but it's a must-watch for people that have completed Omori. It summarizes a lot of the main messages of the story: ruclips.net/video/WizgIdtcEEo/видео.html .
In case you haven’t read: omori.fandom.com/wiki/ROUTES . I was a bit surprised when I couldn't find a good video that shows all the endings of Omori. Some videos are either missing an ending, missing the credits, or they get muted because copyright. I decided to record the important Sunny Route endings here: ruclips.net/video/viBKbdyAAUw/видео.html , but I'm stupid and I missed 1 tiny detail which you can read in the description. The Hikkikomori Route variations are similar: ruclips.net/video/y4r88krkYvc/видео.html . In the reply to this comment, I talk a bit more about the neutral endings.
There is text in the game files for the truth photo album but it was scrapped. You can read the text on the wiki: omori.fandom.com/wiki/PHOTO_ALBUM#THE_TRUTH
Despite all your efforts to find every last secret in the game, unfortunately you have still missed one significant location (which is really good already!). The doors at the back of the church lead outside to Faraway Cemetery. If you visit Mari’s grave on Three Days Left or Two Days Left (Morning), then Kel will start monologuing. There’s a really good animatic about this: ruclips.net/video/G88XMO5Wvjw/видео.html (the text box is Kel’s canon monologue).
On One Day Left, you can bring flowers to Mari’s grave and have a picnic there. There are videos on RUclips for this cutscene but I felt that none of them did the cutscene justice (One of them was almost perfect but they sped through the text). I decided to record it myself: ruclips.net/video/W1HywA_diVA/видео.html
I can't believe I forgot until like 3 weeks later but there's actually some very tiny locations that I think you may or may not have missed. I was thinking of the keeper of the castle room, which is the 2nd one in this video: ruclips.net/video/TWfD-pJ1mKc/видео.html , conveniently the video also shows a few other locations you missed.
By the way, here’s a doc just to show what it looks like to basically 100% Faraway Town. I bet most people didn’t even know that half of these things existed:
docs.google.com/document/d/1SGf6LRkzuLpou5Neqppl3Tm7c3hPAitFhCTrIPRfC_c/edit . My favourite part is the Recycultist's HQ, which is unfortunately locked behind another obscure sidequest.
Now I will shift my focus on talking about the Hikikomori Route. Many people will not play this route because about 15 hours of content is overlapped (maybe 20 if slow), but the route rewards you by giving you more lore. It's basically a continuation of the biggest “What if” in the game, and it takes away what you took for granted in the Sunny route. There are so many details in the game that seem completely insignificant until you learn about the Hikikomori route. It's a sneak peek into just how insanely depressing those 4 years were for Sunny.
The big differences start in the Church of Something, which is the red door in Black Space. After a "reset" (not really a reset imo), you are given maximum freedom in Headspace, and there are new sidequests, new bosses and new locations. This is why many people prefer to ignore Headspace content on the Sunny route, because you literally can't complete it. I personally used this guide to help me progress: www.arrpeegeez.com/2022/07/omori-walkthrough-omori-route-part-2.html
The highlight of the Hikikomori Route is Black Space 2. Read about it here: omori.fandom.com/wiki/BLACK_SPACE#BLACK_SPACE_2 . The lore in Black Space 2 is so brilliantly complex that it would be insane for me to try and explain here. Instead, watch this amazing analysis video after you’ve read the wiki (Warning: Extremely disturbing): ruclips.net/video/EVwug6RiwWI/видео.html . In the reply to this comment, I explain the Hikkikomori Route in much more detail than here.
There are many analysis videos on youtube but I don't have the patience. A lot of video essays are a huge slog. I usually find that the comment sections (sometimes of the OSTs) give pretty good interpretations. Other than the Black Space 2 analysis video above, I can recommend this video about dissociative amnesia: ruclips.net/video/rUDGlEWa4sE/видео.htmlsi=Om39mlqeKAukXSZC , and this masterpiece of a video about why the Omori manga never could've worked: ruclips.net/video/qql2xWfyo-U/видео.html
Here is some music analysis. The leitmotifs are truly fascinating, and you'll find that they are all over the place once you watch this video: ruclips.net/video/cotVdHLSmEQ/видео.html . There was also an orchestral concert playing the most popular OSTs for Omori's 3rd anniversary: ruclips.net/video/OG6HJRpqs_8/видео.html
Ok now a bit of stuff that people do:
There exists a huge variety of Omori mods ranging from super goofy to super serious to just utility. and you may or may not find that interesting. Personally I hear about mods from this youtuber: www.youtube.com/@bossdoor and I watch playthroughs of mods from this youtuber: www.youtube.com/@KyoshiCadre . Here is the website with the most popular mods: mods.one/
There are a lot of Omori edits. When I say a lot, I mean A LOT. Like WAY too many. There is a lot of Omori art too on Twitter. I'm not gonna list any here because you can definitely find good ones yourself.
Next up is fanfics/alternate universes. There is a whole category of alternate universes that people call Omari, which swaps the roles of Sunny and Mari in the accident (Sunny dies and Mari survives). I don’t know much about them otherwise to be honest. One of them is called Nieta: archiveofourown.org/works/28943883/chapters/71019540 and I only knew of it because of this very good video: ruclips.net/video/LnaKQYb7WVA/видео.html
Special mention to www.youtube.com/@otomerson for not only being one of the best editors, animators but also writers. I’ve watched every single animation and edit of theirs like 5 times and I’ve been following their alternate universes for a bit now: archiveofourown.org/works/39169005/chapters/97997763 , archiveofourown.org/works/52642393/chapters/133157416
Some people also write songs/pieces, although I have to admit I don’t find them as amazing as the other stuff. Here is one great composer: www.youtube.com/@carrottier . Here is one other song that I enjoyed: ruclips.net/video/xVBbnJZjJ3s/видео.html

This comment is gonna be more about theories/headcanons since I've already exhausted so much information in the original comment.
I wanted to expand on the Neutral Endings of the game. There are technically only 2, but there are a few subtle differences in the way you achieve them. I ended up counting 6 different variations in total because they all give somewhat different interpretations.
I personally think the Abandon Ending has 3 variations.:
-On the Sunny Route, after learning about the truth, Sunny can choose to leave Basil's house and avoiding any more interaction with his friends, probably due to shock and fear. He finds himself in front of his home and he goes back to how he was for the past 4 years. Sunny runs away from his problems yet again, and Something follows him into the car, implying Sunny will never get over his trauma.
-After learning about the truth, Sunny manages to calm down and returns to sleep, only to find his friends crying in the corridor. Sunny opens the door and finds Basil's corpse, murdered by Something. Sunny represses everything. He blocks it out and never looks back. The rest is the same.
-Hikkikomori Route (and Mixed/Incomplete Hikkikomori Route for the nerds). Not much to elaborate here since Sunny has given up.
The Knife/Stab Ending would have 3 variations:
-Sunny returns home after learning about the truth. It is up to you whether or not Sunny picked up the Steak Knife intentionally. The phone never gets picked up.
-Sunny returns home after Basil's death. This variation is typically regarded as the worst ending in all of Omori. This animatic does a pretty good job of showing everything: ruclips.net/video/0kUf6ytCLmk/видео.html
-Hikkikomori Route. Sunny consciously decides that reality will never be as good as denial. There is nothing here for him. There is nothing that could possibly be better than the magical world of Headspace. No one is here to stop him. Just one more stab and Sunny can finally be free. What is there to fear?
To be honest I really want to talk about the characters but I myself am not so sure about my headcanons. A lot of it is based on the wiki anyways and I think it's good enough. Here's the link for Basil: omori.fandom.com/wiki/BASIL. Fascinating how much you can infer considering Basil doesn't even show up in half the game. (Homework for interested people: There are a few special places that contain daisies, for example one of the Black Space rooms, but more prominently Basil's Meadow before the truth sequence. Heck, the track that plays in Basil's Meadow is subtitled Daisy. Despite that, Basil never once mentions daisies. Can you figure out how daisies are related to Basil's personality? I never paid any attention to this until I read a really good youtube comment)
I really want a Hikkikomori Route playthrough to happen so I'm gonna try to really get into it here. I'll leave out the tiny details and give the big picture. Here's also the wiki link: omori.fandom.com/wiki/ROUTES#OMORI_ROUTE . In this timeline, Sunny never goes out and instead does chores at home, such as washing the dishes or sorting his belongings (fun fact, Sunny owns a book called Hungry Humphrey which is how Humphrey was inspired to be in Headspace). Sunny's fears manifest more abruptly in this route and he is overall more unstable. He passes out twice and both times lead to confronting his fears.
The significant differences start from Black Space. Since Sunny never went outside, he never had the desire to seek the truth, and thus Omori never actually turns against Sunny. When Omori finally finds the "real" Basil in the Church of Something, Stranger stops Omori from his escapism. Omori can run but Stranger catches up eventually. Stranger pulls Sunny into a fight, making him confront the truth. Sunny is unable to use any of his skills just like the True Route fight with Basil. Sunny succumbs and walks up towards the red throne to have Omori save him again. When Omori meets Stranger, Stranger states that he has given up. Omori wakes up again in the Church of Something and rescues Basil. They walk up a staircase of red hands out of Black Space into Headspace, and they arrive at a room similar to Neighbor's Room, where the other 4 friends can be seen sleeping. After Omori and Basil go to bed, Headspace is reset.
After the Headspace reset, the player basically has full control and can do whatever they want. This time, Basil stays within Mari's picnic blanket, safe from ever discovering the truth again. Unfortunately, resetting Headspace has never really solved anything. It can be inferred that parts of Black Space are slowly being infused with Headspace and will soon consume all of it. The reset opened up new Black Space entrances and 5 new Black Space rooms. Many characters also hinted towards this, especially Daddy Longlegs (omori.fandom.com/wiki/DADDY_LONGLEGS#QUOTES). It symbolizes the fact that escapism is not the answer and will eventually fail. This is the main theme of the Hikkikomori Route.
One of the new areas in Headspace is called the Snowglobe Mountain: omori.fandom.com/wiki/SNOWGLOBE_MOUNTAIN .The track that plays on the mountain has stuck out to me, and some of the comments really hit in the heart: ruclips.net/video/YD7Q2MoR_gY/видео.html . It also has one of the sickest boss fight tracks: ruclips.net/video/Pe---DN2TmY/видео.html . Another area is The Abyss, which is one of the deepest areas in Headspace: omori.fandom.com/wiki/THE_ABYSS . The lore goes kinda deep but essentially, all the recycled copies of the Headspace friends will eventually sink here and become nothing. The track in this area is also super underrated: ruclips.net/video/-vWVAo-qHrc/видео.html .
The Hikkikomori Route also features some of the hardest boss fights in the game, notably Perfectheart: omori.fandom.com/wiki/PERFECTHEART . Her bossfight track is also a banger, possibly on the same level as Sweetheart's track: ruclips.net/video/n9gm9lP_4Gk/видео.html . There's also the console-exclusive Basil Rush, which is apparently also just as hard if not harder than Perfectheart. Those who think Omori combat is boring (fair enough) probably just never bothered playing these fights or doing Hikkikomori Route at all (also fair enough).
The overall vibe is different from the Sunny Route in a way that I can only vaguely describe. In the Sunny Route, you feel all sorts of different emotions building up. However in the Hikkikomori Route, it's just a sense of emptiness. No matter how much you want to believe in the fictional world of Headspace, all hope is lost. The scary stuff and the jumpscares are often so much more abrupt, for example go to 1:31 of this video: ruclips.net/video/815-4XzQupE/видео.html .
There's one youtube comment that I read that stuck out to me and it probably affected a lot of my headcanons. Everything clicked once I understood how significant this was. This comment talks about a room in Black Space named "Time":
      Clocks. Clocks everywhere.
      Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
      Tally marks counting the days.
"For so long, you kept the truth shut out."
      "But something made it slip."
Interacting with the telephone in the room gives 1 single line.
      "Sunny...We're moving away."
This single line caused everything. Everything that we are able to see in Omori occurs because of this one line. Why did Sunny choose to go outside? Why not sooner? Why bother with living when he hasn't for 4 whole years? In the Hikikomori Route, why was he so desperate to the point of giving into Omori? Why did Stranger attempt to fight Sunny to make him confront the truth?
Because Sunny knows that he is running out of time. Without a time limit, the Headspace cycle would've continued forever. After all, Playing Forever is the name of the signature Hikkikomori track. His whole life has just been on hold because he was too afraid to do anything. Afraid of ruining everything again. It's okay, there's no rush. He just patiently waits until other people tell him what to do. And that was what he did in that bed of his. Probably why the Black Space room is filled with beds. Patiently waiting until something tells him to do otherwise. Patiently waiting and waiting...Waiting for something to happen.
Ok 180 turn on mood, let's talk about ships. I'm not even gonna comment on the ships but here are some good videos. You may or may not notice the one thing all of these have in common:
      -ruclips.net/video/eza5p3HO1iw/видео.html (Sunny may be bi)
      -ruclips.net/video/RKhCQF7oW9s/видео.html (Suntan=Sunny x Kel)
      -ruclips.net/video/kD9L80o6Exo/видео.html (Sunburn=Sunny x Aubrey) (idk lyrics)
      -ruclips.net/video/hWSHtcHwCgU/видео.html (Sunflower=Sunny x Basil)
Yeah people are obsessed with Sunny (also HeroMari: ruclips.net/video/L3HZAk1FhTQ/видео.html). Of course other ones do exist (Kimbrey/Cotton Candy, Photobomb, Cactiflower, etc), but then theres ones that are just super obscure (Sunscreen? Glitterbomb? Cinnamon? Pink Popcorn? Tarot Deck? Sorry I'm just browsing the shipping wiki and the ships are utterly insane). Anyways yeah my point is, Sunny is all 3 of the most popular ships. Here is BossDoor rating the ships: ruclips.net/video/lrrMDHksz7A/видео.html
Almost done, just a bit more in the next reply because youtube character limit.

RUclips really hated me for this comment so I need to do a big long rant to lower the density of links (or at least, that's how I think youtube works)
These comments took me so long to write and I had to make so many unnecessary changes. The character limit of youtube comments also does not help. I'm surprised how much I forgot about this game despite being basically obssessed with it, and that goes to show how much this game has to offer. I've done 5 ish Sunny Route playthroughs and 2 Hikkikomori Route playthroughs (I swear I do actually like the Hikkikomori Route lol). For reference, that amount of playtime is enough to quote most of the key dialogue in the game, or at the very least, be able to play the game without thinking.
There's 1 cutscene that I forgot about and I'm too lazy to deal with youtube's character limit to move it to the previous comments. It's a cutscene at the hangout spot on the evening of One Day Left. It's not really that important but it's a touching moment. See 8:22 in ruclips.net/video/fz04Dt47QEw/видео.html

That's everything! All this stuff was fun to compile. There's so much about this game that I cannot even begin to comprehend, and there's definitely people out there that know more about this game than me. Thank you for picking up this amazing game, and thank you for reading this stupidly long chain of comments.

Ouch this hit close to home. My father got into the bad kind of drugs and he wasn’t able to come back. He wasn’t who he used to be and it felt like he was gone. I grieved like I had lost him and he has gotten into a bit of a better place now but in my mind he’s gone, I feel guilty for not being able to accept him again but I know it was his fault. I know that what I went through is not close to what it’s like losing someone for real but I just wanted to talk about it, for anyone out there struggling, you can do it and talking about it isn’t always the answer and sorry to say this but it most likely won’t ever feel completely fine again. Sorry if this is an over share please delete or let me know if I should take this down.
