Having watched River Monsters religiously, I can say with absolute certainty that the candiru is not nearly as terrifying as its cousin the candiru acu. Instead of entering your privates, they bore into your body and consume you from the inside out like a real life horror movie.
There is one accurate story of a candiru that did in fact swim up a man's penis and die there. He was actually on one of Jeremy's shows, the man had that thing stuck for four days and it took him several doctors before someone finally took him seriously. The offender was five inches long.
Catfish also have some of the craziest sounds I've ever heard. I was fishing years ago with some family members and one of them caught a Catfish. We each took turns holding it... but then when it came my turn it let out a sound similar to one of PastaroniRavioli's wheezes but more reverbed, bassy, and deeper. It freaked me out causing me to drop it in a panic but luckily it was caught before it escaped into the water.
Since he didn’t mention it in the video, piraiba are also said to be maneaters, there’s actually a picture of one attempting to swallow a grown man whole
The candiru doesn't swim up the urine stream, it's if you're doing your business below the surface for privacy. The candiru-açu is a different species that's bigger and is largely a scavenger that eats a hole into a carcass and feeds from the inside out. The biggest Wels catfish on modern record was in the Rio Ebro in Spain. Jeremy Wade managed to catch a mutant one in the Chernobyl cooling ponds!
Moreover it is increasingly looking like the candiru doesn't actually enter urethras (or at least what was thought to be the one confirmed instance is suspect).
Funfact, my grandpa had a pet piranha named bubuh that a pet store told him was some other fish when he got it, then it started eating any other fish he got and he found out what it was, he kept bubuh the entire time bubuh was alive, and still talks fondly about him, the one story I'll never forget is when my older brother's friends were over at the house, and even though they were all told not to mess with the fish one of em decided to put his finger into the tank and of course, he got bit, i think he tried to say he was gonna sue my grandpa but obviously that went nowhere cause he was literally told not to mess with the fish, but yeah my grandpa loved that fish and i remember any time my sister and i got to visit when we were kids I'd sometimes just sit and watch him, sometimes my grandpa would even let me feed him, it was really neat and gave a cool story to tell
Fugu is one of the things about Japanese culture I WILL call Japan out on and ask, "The frick were you thinking, Japan?". Is something tasty REALLY worth risking your life every time you eat it? That's literally like playing Russian roulette with your food. What is even the point? Is it a thrill thing? The rush of realising you survived after eating something so tasty?
Those video of the carniverous squid is terrifying, they are big, fast, inteligent and have big spikes on their tentacles while also having a strong bite of the beek. All of that while also traveling in big groups How more terrifying can something get??
12:30 Due to where you paused I think you missed the full quote. He wasn't saying its comparable to getting attacked by a shark or struck by lightning, but rather the chance is like the chance of getting attacked by a shark AND struck by lightning at the same time. In the sense that while it may not be impossible, it's never been confirmed to have happened.
I was afraid of Sharks, until I saw footage and instances to showcase them and now, I want to feed them but if I could learn to swim, I'd cuddle with a Shark.
Another reason why you should not be in the ocean outside of Australia is the box jellyfish which can kill you in a short amount of time and can go through nets that are designed to keep them out
You forgot to mention this, but smaller species of tiger fish could still get pretty big not as big as the goliath, but they hunt in packs And unlike piranhas schools of tiger Fish will eat animals bigger than them
I might not be able to find it either, but do you remember which catfish it was? They’ve done episodes on a few of them. The Red-tailed Catfish, the Wels Catfish, the Mekong Catfish, the Goonch, and the Candiru are all catfish that have been featured on the show.
Glad that nick is out of the picture. He's silent as HECK per se most of the time and he's killing the vibe sometimes IMO I get that he's like that, but in the context of reacting that doesn't translate well

Albeit you would have to be dead or practically dead for it to happen.
It's basically a Catfish that fused with a Hagfish.
Yeah but the ash is even more like a squishy gummy. And that makes me want to touch it

Had one come up and take one of my fish the other week as I pulled out a beer. I knew I needed that drink😭
Caught one catfish that was about 2ft long and that was already an arms workout, can't imagine how people are pulling these 6ft plus monsters.
Since he didn’t mention it in the video, piraiba are also said to be maneaters, there’s actually a picture of one attempting to swallow a grown man whole
That picture isn't real. It was a representation of the fisherman's account of the event.
"Piraiba"? Piranha?
@@SadistAssist The piraiba is a giant catfish native to the Amazon, they are capable of growing up to 9ft long

Nate... that Yogi Bear movie came out almost 15 years ago. It was released in 2010.

well from what i heard fugu doesn't even taste good or even taste like anything at all which as you said doesn't seem worth it
Fish and birds are proof that dinosaurs never went away
No, they're instinct
Collosal squid are found regularly around the deep water around us here in New Zealand, and they wash up fairly regularly

How about Brandon tenold tales from the darkside or his creepshow movie review episode.
Ah a brandon the old fan. Honestly I would recommend one of his Godzilla videos first to them.
@@V-Master-ez1ht which one then 🤔.
Maybe Godzilla vs Hedorah for the acid trip. That or Godzilla vs Megalon for THAT drop kick.

Also the Piraiba. I would add this as an edit to my original reply, but I can’t do that on mobile for some reason.
