In some cases I would not even say the ideas are "workshopped." Tolkien created fantasy by NOT answering every question. He left things open, unknown. He let the reader's imagination do some of the work. He sometimes answered questions with "I don't know, I suppose they would." That was the skill of his writing. Tolkien could, in just a sentence or two, create a mental image of an entire backstory fleshed out in general detail. MOST IMPORTANTLY!, fans of his work overwhelmingly agree on the images that appeared in all our minds collectively when we read his writing. We all, or nearly all, got the same ideas. It was deliberate.

Rings of Poop is an abomination. It is not and never will be part of Tolkien's stories. Furthermore, it caused me to despise Amazon and start shopping at other retailers.
Take the two versions of the blue wizards. The first one with a third age arrival along with the other Istari and the later version with a second age arrival. They are both canon to me. Similarly all four gospels are obviously canon even though they contradict each others at points. We also have two creation stories in Genesis. All canon. The purpose was probably to muddy the waters. Well, if there are two versions of the blue wizards, why cannot Amazon make up anything they want? sort of thing. Answer is, of course that is not what any of that means. However, they could as far as I am concerned choose between the two versions of canon here, and for the show adding second age blue wizards would have been a logical choice if they had some sense and some respect for the lore. But, alas - They have neither sense nor respect.
As far as the Blue Wizards go, the first mention of them, with them coming to Middle Earth in the Third Age, is clearly from a time when Tolkien was still in the process of fleshing their story out. The passages from Unfinished Tales, or his letters (eg 211) all have phrases like "I think they", or "I fear they", or even more explicitly " _I really do not know anything clearly about the other two_ " The later mentions of them coming in the Second Age, from 'Last Writings' in 'The Peoples of Middle-earth', (written much later) has Tolkien talking much more authoritatively about them. I'm not going to even try to fit what Tolkien wrote to what Amazon's crappy anti-fan fiction has done to them, except to point out _if_ the Dark Wizard turns out to be Saruman, it makes Gandalf's actions within Lord of the Rings where he totally trusts Saruman as the head of his order, totally idiotic.
@@terrystewart1973 They could even combine both versions and have one good blue and one evil blue to get their saruman/gandalf dynamic. Would be ok to me I suppose.

If this is gaslighting, it is failing... This show is bad. And we know it And we also know that this does horrible things to the Lore. THIS is not based upon TOLKIEN. This is more antifan fiction using locations and characters...badly.
This is yet another in a series of daily ridiculous and hypocritical videos by Negative Nancy. The show is not 'gaslighting' anyone; rather, the haters like this are gaslighting viewers by deliberately distorting everything they read about the show. She says that she "is tired of" the writers "cherry picking" things from various parts of JRR Tolkien's work, and with no evidence, claims that they do this to "drum up attention". If anyone wishes to judge to what degree the show follows the lore, then read the three paragraphs concerning the Second Age in Appendix B of The Return of the King, and the Chapter "Of The Rings of Power and the Third Age" in The Silmarillion. Her hypocrisy regarding cherry picking can be seen in the relentless description of the show as "failing" based on deceptive cherry picking of inappropriate metrics such as Samba TV (check out the strong viewership numbers from Nielsen and the fact that almost two weeks after the finale it is still Amazon's #1). Nancy, if you don't like it, then just don't watch it, yeah? But then, you'd miss out on those clicks, the real (gaslighting) reason for these cringeworthy videos.
Can we talk about your gaslighting? After the season 1-2 drop of 60+%, Nielsen said the ratings dropped across season 2 by another 20+%. Now let's talk about the canonicity of the origin of Gandalf's name, or the Harfoots being a Hobbit SPLIT not a "proto-Hobbit". Now forget the canon and let's talk surviving high falls or riding six days hard with wounds needing treatment. Or a smith who needs to be taught about alloys or storing an anvil in the ceiling. Go back to your Amazon lord, miserable monster.
Amazon buys certain parts of the lore, have "the lord of the rings" in the title and you don't think they are not gaslighting fans???I'f the show was any good the ratings would show otherwise.the show gets bashed because of the terrible writing, terrible acting, terrible set designs, inconsistent with the story telling and butchering of the lore.i mean who is this show made for lol?
Really? Giving Gandalf's speech to Frodo in the 3rd age to Tom Bomadillo in RoP isn't cherry picking from LotR? What about the barrow wights? Which are not created until the 3rd age. Or Gandalf being in the show at all. Or the hobbits. Durin's bane?? None of that is cherry picking for it's recognition? Tolkien was pretty concerned with distance and travel time, RoP is not. Elrond saying 'oh it's 150 leagues to Eregion (517miles) doesn't fix anything. Just makes it worse, because now Elrond travels like 1500 miles between episodes 4-7 (I think it was 4-7 anyways). Yes I know you are either a troll or Amazon shill so this discussion is pointless, but I'm bored.
Let's talk about the dishonesty of cherrypicking network statistics. On top of the 63% drop in viewers from season 1 to season 2, let's talk about NIELSEN'S detected 20+% drop in ratings from beginning to end of season 2. Let's talk about teaching a smith to alloy, storing an anvil in the ceiling, cutting a thumb instead of chains, surviving falls from heights, fast travel. Go back to your hole, Amazon creature.
