Say what you want about Roman, but the guy is a good negotiator. His strategy is being friendly to the client first, talk casually then offer the prize slowly and persuade them until they change their mind. Shiv is mosly too direct and using her feeling which is a big no no on negotiation. Kendall is too aggresive and likes to interrupt anyone whose talking, his way is more like "No, no, no! It's my way! Fuck off!"
As rhea said, Shiv thinks she is a lot smarter than she really is. She can be cunning, and cruel. But Nobody else can be cruel except Logan and Marcia. Her final moment, "shivving" Ken in the back, is her being spiteful, angry, and cruel. Ken would be the best of the 3. Ken wouldn't be perfect, but he has shown he can keep the company running as an administrator (S1) and can be cold enough to work out good enough deals after his vaulter fiasco. Shiv instead is just choosing between, is she more spiteful at Mattson, or at Ken. It's just that seeing Ken get it would feel worse than seeing Mattson get it... Never mind, if Ken gets it, Shiv would be materially better off, with a stronger voting bloc than selling at least 50% of her voting power, and taking the remaining 50% into a larger merged company... For Shiv it's just personal. Whilst Ken and Shiv both badly want it, Shiv wants it to feel above others. Ken just wants it because he feels it is his only place in the world to function. For Ken it's like he trained all his life to be a pro golfer, no other skills, and he failed/got cut down. For Shiv, it was just about being bigger than everyone else. Notice even how she gloats the episode prior, offering Roman and Ken her share of " The hundred". SHe even smirks at Ken before she brings up the deceased wait staff kid. She already decided she wasn't with Ken. SHe just takes any ammunition she can to try rub it in and justify it.
Going back to this scene, makes me wonder, what really made Shiv think Mattson was truly considering her as ceo. I mean he basiclly says outloud that she has no experience and that the pregnancy was going to be an issue...
And she tries to recover by making a crack about her own father dying, to try to manipulate other people with her grief. She thinks it makes her look tough, but it only makes her look more psychotic. I guess there was no way for her to know that Roman already told Mattson that the kids are deeply emotional about it. It matters for the contrast that Tom shows that he is affected and hurt by Mattson's trolling, but he takes it silently, which is all that Mattson wanted.
@@stampedeofoneKendall knew what he was doing because he saw a lot of people from around the world including another business partners of Logan attended Logan's funeral and he used charisma, serious expression and also made analogies and metaphors. Ewan is mostly telling facts and also telling everyone that Logan has corrupted the people around him which triggers Roman as he couldn't deliver his eulogy. Meanwhile, Shiv's eulogy is an epic fail, too much giggling and then she's even going back and forth about how she's feeling. Who the hell is giggling on funeral? Also, people mostly noticed that she's pregnant from far away and they assumed that she's on pregnant state that her emotion is totally unstable so that's why her speech is nonchalant. Shiv also never think furture if she is the CEO while pregnant, she'll have a maternity leave for 2-3 months and who will be in charge when the CEO is taking care of her baby? I guarantee you if any of the Roys become the CEO, they won't lasting for a year probably not even a month, even in a week, they'll get bored and overwhelmed because they realize that the job is hard.
Goes in one ear out the other. She refuted that with, first thing, "political acumen". She's completely oblivious to the actual responsibilities to be CEO, she's just still talking about herself and seeing it from her POV.

No lol, Greg was never being CEO. The CEO is a puppet, but that doesn't mean they can be incompetent. Tom was a dark horse the entire show, its mentioned in the earlier seasons that Logan promoted Tom to ATN because of how well he did in parks and cruises, we also see him at work for the first time in S04E08 and he was quite impressive
You cant say this show was sexist just because shiv was always denied the position of ceo. They literally gave Gerri, a woman, multiple chances to run the company during its critical moments but chose not to because she knew how chaotic it would be to run waystar, even if it was temporary. They would always rely on her to fall back on because she had..wait for it...experience! Shiv was just spoiled and wanted to see her brothers lose, that's it. You dont make a fan of baseball the new coach to their favorite team just cause he saw the games!😂
Even Matsson was talking about Shiv's lack of experience. That had to sting.
Shiv just seems so immature when it comes to actual business when compared with even Roman who is a deranged kid
I think in some aspects of bussiness and negotiating Roman is way better than the other siblings.
Well that plan she came up with was very smart and effective that Lukas still decided to go with it

I love how Roman hates Matsson with a passion, and doesn't care to show it!
he's like the nerdy kid in the playground after the popular kid walks in
Everyone is perfectly cast. Elite show.
Shiv is never going to be picked by Matsson
definitely not, I think after the mencken intro mattson sees her as a liability and pointless to keep
Shiv paved the way for Mattson to make Greg the CEO. If the goal is to just have a puppet, why wouldn’t he pick a total puppet like Greg?
Greg would've shit his own pants trying to run a monster as ATN) Tom is perfect
