As a season 12 predator myself on console, best advice would be trying to understand how you contribute a difference in team fights, or even solo fights. Being calm & strategic would only get you so far, work on your aim & movement.
A tip from me is to know what you want to do with an ability before you use it. I see too many Valks that say they're gonna ult us then when I ask where they say they don't know. Don't just use the ability just because you can and this goes double for longer cooldowns

I appreciate all of the apex knowledge. I have been practicing your Tips and feel more comfortable and confident in pushing fights and surviving in match's. It makes the game a lot more fun to play. The more I play the more competitive I get.
1. listen for footsteps and distant gun shots 2. shield swap in the early game craziness instead of using cells or batteries 3. do your teammates want to push hard, or sit back and take long range shots, strategy can help.

I also wanna add one thought to your tip #8 about landing. Yeah, don't land to close, but I usually have other problem - my random teammates land waayyy to far apart... which is a big problem in hot zones.
The best advice anyone can give in this game is just have patience. It can and will win you fights. It does 2 things; first it allows your opponent to outposition themselves for you. The second, it allows for team fire. One of the biggest mistakes I see my teammates make is when they are holding the same piece of cover as the enemy. They will almost always try to ego push the other side where I dont have LOS on the opponent instead of just waiting where they are. In this situation they die way more often than they win (Randoms and squad alike) to "3rd party" or in actuality the teammate who waited for my guy to turn the corner. This applies in many situations, if comms are an option even if they arent speaking (if the icon is there, they can hear you) it is worth asking someone to look for you that way you can set up the team fire
Learning each gun made me leagues better than what I used to be. I used to look primarily for a wingman/r99 combo, but now I have a lot of viable options.
volt, car, flatline, **r301** eva i, peacekeeper, havoc, g7 scout, these are all very good weapons. r301 is the ultimate beginner weapon as its good all around and has easy recoil
About warming up aim, using the firing range before playing always helped me, but recently i just jump into two rounds of arenas before going into BR. Helps warm up massively.
Amazing video. I'd say one thing that I see most players below diamond do is heal TOO MUCH when they should be helping a teammate secure a kill. Know when to heal and when to just play low to help your team finish.
the egg timer rule! yes!! not enough people do that. There gets a point where the fight is just a stalemate, no one is making moves. All your doing is being a ticking a timebomb for a 3rd party to roll up on you and wipe the squad. And please, with the new storm, just be a bit smarter taking fights. No point when you just wiped a squad, not fully reset, running to make circle and decide to run out of the way and start a new fight.
Isn't this game sick? Hang in there!! Watch "streamers" and "copy" what they do. Helps alot. Learning movement in this game is a game breaker. Like slide jumping into a fight and jumping out or bunny hopping out of sight while healing. Or crouching up and n down during a 1 on 1 can give you the upper hand sometimes.
Not a bad starter vid. Love the no COD camping which goes in hand with shield health. Leads to when to do either. Idk if you have a vid on that. But you got a like man!!!!! Great vid voice as well, easy to hear 🙉 I need easy-to-understand voices in tutorials and why I put the compliments below cause they're massive
for #3 and slide jumping the fastest way to keep doing it, is by looking at your hands. for example if you have wraiths heirloom, when her left hand moves up twice you can slide jump once again, without an heirloom when your hands alternate twice you can slide jump (1, 2, 3, 4).
Love the tips. I always try to apply what you talk about about but it's kinda hard when 85% of players think there gods of Apex in pub insta-die and log out. I win one or two matches a day cause I get with randoms that know what team work is and I play five to six hours a day. Need to campaign for teamwork hard Ottr
One huge thing that im glad i no longer do is tunnel vision, i would always tunnel vision my fights. It for sure makes a huge difference and it was easy to stop doing it
Damn i really be laughing and having a good time actually relating to your videos (and its not me making these mistakes) Love the vid ! keep it up Ottr !!!!
I love your tips and I consider the pro tips for sure but I've been playing apex for 3 to 4 years now lol I hope new players see your videos and become better teammates much love ❤️💯
The easiest thing is positioning and being very aware of where teams are and going to be. However that isn't the same for my team mates and since I'm an absolutely dedicated team player I mentally stay with my team no matter what shitty position they choose. Because in the end of the day it won't matter because they won't listen to nobody but themselves and die alone. At least they won't die alone as long as I can keep up with them for when they wanna run across map away from their team mates in RANKED. Masters/Pred lobbies btw.
3000 hours in the game and still watching those videos because you never know everything and sometimes it's a good reminder to watch videos of stuff you already know.
The last tip for me is actually the opposite. Going cold without training almost guarantee me to secure at least top 3 in the first 3 rounds, a win if im lucky. And its all downhill from there. Just like my life lmao
Facts. I actually think thats an intentional game design by respawn. Let you get a win right away, then give you nothing but losses after so that you chase that high of winning in the 1st game. Its called player retention. I personally think its bullshit, and that the sbmm in apex is some of the worst Ive ever seen in a game. Period.
I'm always the one to look behind during a match to check for third parties/other squads which means I'm the first to notice them sometimes before they notice us but half the time they show up like 5 seconds after I just checked (I ain't gonna play a scan legend)
I'm surprised how many people don't know about these things. but I guess it's good because it indicates that more and more new players coming to play this game
If you stand still and listen carefully, you can faintly hear keyboard clacking from a replicator, locate its direction and open your map. Whatever replicator is in that direction you can assume there is a team there. Not very useful but it works.
My aim may suck, but I'm in gold because I already do many of these things in Ottr's video above. I can probably get back to plat (s12 was my peak) if I work on a couple of the ones I don't do since I'm probably going to break even at gold 3 with my current skill level. Also if my aim becomes more consistent that'll help too. What I do: 1 (need to improve but better than average from my experience), 2, 3 (definitely haven't "truely mastered" but I know I can leave POIs in gold 10 secs after my teammates and still catch up to them given around a 300m trek), 5 (why don't people do this??), 7 (I end up taking jumpmaster 60~80% of the time in solo queue so you kinda need to do this if you want more consistent placements), 8 (when I'm not jumpmaster obviously, even then I ping where I want to personally land), 11 (honestly probably need to main a weapon combo better cause I just go with the flow with weapons), 12. By working on my awareness and positioning in fights I bet I won't even need to aim better. I have no proof of this but I do aim more consistently under lower mental expectations of my abilities. So just making the game easier for myself should theoretically make me aim better, or at least, more consistently. Cheers Ottr!
If you struggle with aim it's usually recoil control. With 0 FPS experience prior to Apex this was my biggest hurdle to overcome myself. I'm still not the best by a large margin but i'm insane with my flicks and trigger control. Weapons like PK, Sentintel, Wingman (with a bit of patience) may just be better options for you and when you learn how to play a fight in a burst fashion you can start doming people that would otherwise just beam you down.
@@Meowthix I have about 4-5k hours In various fps. It has gotten a lot better but it has to do with the way the eye part of hand eye coordination. I've been having a lot of success by using lower powered scopes to train my eye to see the center of my target, but it is slow going. Also sometimes my recent meds mess with my vision a little. All in all, I see slow improvement.
@@tawlney Honestly i'm just pictuing a game awhile back where i rounded a corner, saw a quite visible neon pink skinned valk running at me straight and just didn't register it as a player until a teammate popped out from behind a rock and started shooting at me. There was no excuse, I saw the Valk, like clearly, my brain just no worked. IDK how TF I hit and climb through diamond.
Wow thanks in just playing ranked and I'm enjoying competitive apex! I'm gold 1 half way through it's my first time actually playing it I'm lvl 506 but I find this guide helpfull!
Once you find yourself in plat you WILL have to adjust from the pub mentality you probably have to continue to succeed. Not trying to be rude at all. Plat is kind of the point nowadays where, to climb at least, you need decent mechanics and game knowledge. Pubs tend to not really teach any game knowledge.
@@Ale_Sasu The not trying to be rude was more intended so you didn't feel offended by the comment. Plenty of people when they start off in ranked will hit gold4 or so and then hit a wall as it requires a different playstyle after that. You can treat low rank like pubs with how low RP entry cost is. Plat+ just becomes a different ballgame. You'll do fine though. Get that diamond trail.
I hate that I already do some of these, unlike some teammates I get paired with and theres always that one guy/team that laser me before I could even think 😂
For me personally, pick a main. It may get difficult with all the play styles and especially if you watch the pros and just want to replicate what you saw… but picking up 2-3 main characters you’re good with can really help your team dynamics and your situational awareness to know when and how to use an ability. Nothing wrong with playing multiple characters, but it definitely can help. Not even to mention how your aim can be a little off if you switch between characters with a very decent height difference often (i.e. new castle vs lifeline)
Also it can be mad annoying when a teammate just doesn’t know when to use an ability because they don’t play the character enough. Playing with wattson when youre use to characters like bloodhound or bangalore, just because you died and think changing your character will make you play better will probably do the opposite. All I’m saying is play with 2 or 3 a bit more than the rest lol or play other legends in pubs and have main legends for ranked. Just be a lil consistent when grinding.
I agree. Have 2-3 legends that you are good at. I always try a new legend, just to get a feeling of how it plays and then go back to my main. Just not to forget how everyone plays, I do the required legend for the daily quest and then go on to my Caustic/Watson/Loba. :D
I've been playing a lot with randoms and I'm impressed how little people slidejump, I guess hundreds of hours on titanfall 2 just make me want to do it
Ive gone beyound slid jumping. I've begun slid jumping into another immediate slide (at least for a split sec at the peak of the movement on the sec slid). I then break the slid by sprinting again I dont know if it actually keep your speed but i must say it feels like it each time i do. I dont know if its more practical and beneficial then spamming regular slid jumping. But feels fun doing since im limited by movement on my controller.
My biggest tip is to stay on high ground until you’ve knocked at least 1 legend on the opposing side. Stick close to teammates. Lastly, don’t think you need the amount of ammo you’re carrying (multiple stacks for automatic weapons) opt for more heals!
I’m a diamond and you are right but one is wrong being far from your team is bad sometimes you have to be far so if you crack or kill some people they can come and save/revive you
I am a firm believer in no warmup. My first game is my most cracked game of the night 8/10 times, and I'm not wasting that in pubs or the firing range lmao
A genuine tip from a season 0 player to improve your game sense - make sure you understand the possible paths your enemies can take during fights. You wont have to be surprised if someone shoots you from another angle this way.
I have a tip going with tip number 3 something you may not have known either ottr, IF you pull out your weapon right before u slide jump you’ll have it midair and have enough time to reholster if needed, this is really useful and could be used when going around corners, certain guns have a bad handling and it doesn’t work the only one I noticed this with is the devotion.
Also another side tip with octane you can bunny hop heal if you atom you played earlier than me you know what I’m talking about with that it’s the exact same it only works with octane the 10% speed difference is enough to make it or break it
here's a tip for you ottr, i saw at 4:44 when you went to sprint away and look at your inventory and opened up the Steam overlay. This use to happen to me in games a lot, so i changed the keybind in the Steam settings to Shift/tilde (~), the button right above tab. And it has helped tremendously! The only problem is that i think Shift/~ is the keybind for discord overlay by default. I turn mine off but i know others like it, so perhaps a different keybind for that.
when i play with my friendsi always have someone use mirage, and we're guarding a position and a team comes, we usually have a wraith go out and scout shit out, then once they close in, me, the revenant, uses my ult (thats why i always have 2 ult acc) on top of the roof or somewhere safe. then the mirage uses his decoy to bait the team into the building while i am sitting on top of the door. once the mirage is inside, he uses his ult to distract the enemie. we make sure to shoot from the same direction (door), so the team has less a chance to notice me on the top of the door.
It's amazing how often I slide jump compared to my random even just while moving across the map, I get like 1 slide jumping random every 10 games maybe, and my sbmm is pretty bad so my team mates are inconsistent
Really? I picked up slide jumping just because I saw one guy doing it one time and after, I tried it and it was faster. And then from that, I figured out ledge boosting and taking advantage of hills and all that. Seems like it would just come naturally by gold

Every Octane needs to see this video. The what to expect when a teammate chooses who to play is octane. 99% of the time, they run off, engage a 1v 3 (or more) across the map, get knocked and finished. It's then followed by a bunch of foul language asking where are we, and why are we all the way over there and immediate D/C

I don't know how to match them once I pick out the first weapon.. that's what keeps me slow during looting..
Just subbed great content sir! 💯💯💯
after months of watching your content. im finally subbed
One more if you don’t have/use a mic use the pinging system it could tell you team that you are going to attack or defend and say no to pings
“Looking around while dropping is helpful to notice enemy teams”
Laughs in valk main
Oh dude this improved my game sense so much thank you thank you thank you
About warming up aim, using the firing range before playing always helped me, but recently i just jump into two rounds of arenas before going into BR. Helps warm up massively.
Hi hope everyone’s having a good day and having fun in apex!
Amazing video. I'd say one thing that I see most players below diamond do is heal TOO MUCH when they should be helping a teammate secure a kill. Know when to heal and when to just play low to help your team finish.
Love this stuff! Thank you! 🙏
the egg timer rule! yes!! not enough people do that.

Awesome content. New to the game. The tips are huge that you're pointing out. 👍 Thanks for the good tips.
I started ten weeks ago I’m trash but looking for more people with mics
Isn't this game sick? Hang in there!! Watch "streamers" and "copy" what they do. Helps alot. Learning movement in this game is a game breaker. Like slide jumping into a fight and jumping out or bunny hopping out of sight while healing. Or crouching up and n down during a 1 on 1 can give you the upper hand sometimes.
Gr8 video ottr 👍👍👍❤️
Not a bad starter vid. Love the no COD camping which goes in hand with shield health. Leads to when to do either. Idk if you have a vid on that. But you got a like man!!!!! Great vid voice as well, easy to hear 🙉 I need easy-to-understand voices in tutorials and why I put the compliments below cause they're massive
Ty for pointing them out
for #3 and slide jumping the fastest way to keep doing it, is by looking at your hands. for example if you have wraiths heirloom, when her left hand moves up twice you can slide jump once again, without an heirloom when your hands alternate twice you can slide jump (1, 2, 3, 4).
Good tip, granted you'll still occasionally deadslide just cuz reasons.
@@Meowthix you shouldn’t unless you superglide or edge slide, but i still dead slide cause i suck:p
as an average mokey enjoyer, I can say all the movement based tips are very true and VERY valuable if you are good enough at them
Love the vid! thank you
5:13 looked around too much and missed the ledge 😂
5:12 Focusing on looking around and messes up the drop 😂
yo listen listen, dont call me out like that
@@ViewtifulSHIV No intentions on calling you out. Been there done that many a time. Was just hilarious he used your example but you missed the drop 🤣
@@gr1mreeper haha yeah well I mean I edited it so a self callout lmao, and definitely didnt wanna rerecord it lmao
@@ViewtifulSHIV I enjoyed it either way :) good stuff :)
Hey Ottr! Are you still offering coaching sessions?
One huge thing that im glad i no longer do is tunnel vision, i would always tunnel vision my fights. It for sure makes a huge difference and it was easy to stop doing it
Damn i really be laughing and having a good time actually relating to your videos (and its not me making these mistakes) Love the vid ! keep it up Ottr !!!!
This is great content!
I love he calls his subs, his clients lmaooooooo
I love your tips and I consider the pro tips for sure but I've been playing apex for 3 to 4 years now lol I hope new players see your videos and become better teammates much love ❤️💯
Game came out in 2020 lmaooo
@@puregold3061 no it didn't
The easiest thing is positioning and being very aware of where teams are and going to be.
However that isn't the same for my team mates and since I'm an absolutely dedicated team player I mentally stay with my team no matter what shitty position they choose.
Because in the end of the day it won't matter because they won't listen to nobody but themselves and die alone.
At least they won't die alone as long as I can keep up with them for when they wanna run across map away from their team mates in RANKED.
Masters/Pred lobbies btw.
I swear the better the rank of a player the worse of a teammate they are.
3000 hours in the game and still watching those videos because you never know everything and sometimes it's a good reminder to watch videos of stuff you already know.
Agreed
Where is that ads to hip fire gun list u made?
The last tip for me is actually the opposite. Going cold without training almost guarantee me to secure at least top 3 in the first 3 rounds, a win if im lucky. And its all downhill from there. Just like my life lmao
Facts. I actually think thats an intentional game design by respawn. Let you get a win right away, then give you nothing but losses after so that you chase that high of winning in the 1st game. Its called player retention. I personally think its bullshit, and that the sbmm in apex is some of the worst Ive ever seen in a game. Period.
4:17 did he just reload the R301 with the PK equipped???
Woah 😳
1:33 in the vid and i can give u a tip…
when u pop a phoenix or medkit w octane, stim before it goes off😂.
I'm always the one to look behind during a match to check for third parties/other squads which means I'm the first to notice them sometimes before they notice us but half the time they show up like 5 seconds after I just checked (I ain't gonna play a scan legend)
Dude I’m so pissed, I just had a wraith game where I was 6 damage of a 4k in ranked… so close
You can see on screen when someone is crafting nearby too. So follow the clicks and you'll soon know if someone is at the replicator.
Thanks dude
My aim may suck, but I'm in gold because I already do many of these things in Ottr's video above. I can probably get back to plat
(s12 was my peak) if I work on a couple of the ones I don't do since I'm probably going to break even at gold 3 with my current skill level.
Learn to smooth aim
For the slide jumping, look at your hands. Once your left hand goes down and comes up 3 times your at max speed and can slide jump the best
@@Meowthix I'm all ready adjusted and I'm not rude I allways help my teammates 😁!
@@Meowthix Thanks for the tips
Gl with all the preds lol
I hate that I already do some of these, unlike some teammates I get paired with and theres always that one guy/team that laser me before I could even think 😂
Great Video keep it up 👍
you aint even watch the video 😒
For eye exercises, does it have to be on the monitor you normally play on or could it be on the phone, something to do doing a short break?
Keep your camera on head hight or at least chest height if you can.
8:28 Ammo will always show up even if your teammate has 400 backup ammo
gun run is a perfect warmup and trainer since you have to use weapons you normaly dont use. It made me better, sad its not a permanent mode
What’s ur stats each game I didn’t see anything over 2 kills and 800 dmg
I always die to 3rd party’s either right after we finish a duo or recovering from it any tips ??
what is your crosshair?
I've been playing a lot with randoms and I'm impressed how little people slidejump, I guess hundreds of hours on titanfall 2 just make me want to do it
Dude casually found a purp shield and helmet and 4 bats all in the same spot
@ottr Is your coaching free?
1:06 hold up guys i know we are fighting multiple squads but i gotta go to MS paint to figure out how many we’re fighting
Ive gone beyound slid jumping.
I've begun slid jumping into another immediate slide (at least for a split sec at the peak of the movement on the sec slid). I then break the slid by sprinting again
I dont know if it actually keep your speed but i must say it feels like it each time i do.
I once filled my entire inventory with shotgun ammo for a joke.. Definitely didn't need a fourth of it
4:18 oh yeah, peacekeeper selected, reloading r-301
Apex legends is a goofy aah game 💀💀💀
I’m a diamond and you are right but one is wrong being far from your team is bad sometimes you have to be far so if you crack or kill some people they can come and save/revive you
my pub teammates need this
what is your reticle?
I am a firm believer in no warmup. My first game is my most cracked game of the night 8/10 times, and I'm not wasting that in pubs or the firing range lmao
A genuine tip from a season 0 player to improve your game sense - make sure you understand the possible paths your enemies can take during fights. You wont have to be surprised if someone shoots you from another angle this way.
The small dude holding hand up is a huge tip. Never saw it before.
Day 2 of asking ottr to try and master the rev wall crawling technique and do a vid about it
Nice! Now i just need to learn How to aim 👍
Also keep it up ottr!
I’m doing this mid video
Good eye
when i play with my friendsi always have someone use mirage, and we're guarding a position and a team comes, we usually have a wraith go out and scout shit out, then once they close in, me, the revenant, uses my ult (thats why i always have 2 ult acc) on top of the roof or somewhere safe. then the mirage uses his decoy to bait the team into the building while i am sitting on top of the door. once the mirage is inside, he uses his ult to distract the enemie. we make sure to shoot from the same direction (door), so the team has less a chance to notice me on the top of the door.
Keep it locked !
I'm a fairly good player and I still learned a fair bit from this cheers for the tips
I'm not a diamond or masters but I do all of these and I'm a master of movement
Watched this video, instantly improved 💀
It's amazing how often I slide jump compared to my random even just while moving across the map, I get like 1 slide jumping random every 10 games maybe, and my sbmm is pretty bad so my team mates are inconsistent
Really? I picked up slide jumping just because I saw one guy doing it one time and after, I tried it and it was faster. And then from that, I figured out ledge boosting and taking advantage of hills and all that. Seems like it would just come naturally by gold
Hey Ottr I sarted to play Apex recently. You're doing an amazing job. If you don't know what to do for new content. It would be amazing to watch some of your coaching videos.
What you play on? I'm always willing to help a newbie learn. Top percent in Caustic stats, last i checked top 200 or so for ranked/caustic stats in Canada. Top 10k global for ranked. Although that may have dropped as I dont regularly update tracker gg.
@@Meowthix bro stop playing caustic
Every Octane needs to see this video. The what to expect when a teammate chooses who to play is octane. 99% of the time, they run off, engage a 1v 3 (or more) across the map, get knocked and finished. It's then followed by a bunch of foul language asking where are we, and why are we all the way over there and immediate D/C
i'm yet to play with an octane that does otherwise. they still do that even in diamond lobbies!!
This is actually very helpful for my performance in game. I rarely do any map planning so this will help exponentially
I’m a decent player no dedicated main. But my problems lie in movement. I never remember to move while I shoot or crouch spam stuff like that. Any tips for movement beginners with decent gun skill
Honestly there is no “tip” for that just try to remember to do it and eventually it will stick
