Budget sun bed build - trying to make a sun bed cheap but HEAVY DUTY

- in this video I show How i build a sun bed cheap...
its a DIY wooden sun bed build - i have been thinking for a while to try make a sun bed, a heavy duty one and for cheap. So I built this using reclaimed wood and fencing offcuts, the total cost was around 10 - 20 pounds (in fixings and hardware) so this really was a cheap DIY wooden sun bed build. After looking at many pictures of sunbeds i went for this design and it took me some time to work out the back rest adjustment setup, and how it was going to work and function nicely. this really was a budget sun bed build.
In the hot weather a cheap sun bed is a nice addition to my garden, and in my opinion a smart wooden sun bed is a nice piece of garden furniture to both see and use.
I used second hand treated timber to build this wooden sun lounger
how do you think i did ?
I hope you enjoy this video

what colour should i paint this with ? or maybe not paint
I would put some exterior wood protector on it. Nothing more. Each year, put another coat on.
@@HouseFairyDIY currently just pressure treated wood but once it's finished breathing out I will do this I think
By breathing I mean the chemical used for pressure treating has time to air or it will repell my treatment a bit if I use water based I believe.
Exelente trabajo y sí no es molestia las medidas x favor gracias 😊
Really very knowledgeable. It become so easy to afford a sun bath bed like this
Thanks RustyDIY for sharing this. Looks great and for once, very doable versus so many other videos that are over-complicated and look like they've been constructed in professional workshops with huge bits of kit. very inspired to recreate this. Cheers!
ya no fancy tools used for this, but obviously with a workshop you could make this much much nicer but for a cheap sun bed its nice enough for me. thanks for taking the time to leave a comment i appreciate it 👍.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
thank you very much
light blow torch and then preserve varnish - great effect
Light pink! Big summer vibes 💪🏼
Baby pink sunlounger could be interesting
😁 ☀️☀️☀️
СПАСИБО большое за наглядное пособие по изготовлению шезлонга. Показала видео мужу, он обещал сделать такой же шезлонг )))
Fantastic Brother - Great Job!
thank you
Very nice!!
thanks
Very very nice ❤
thank you very much
Good job
thanks
A tip from me is to use the piece of the gang rod that you cut of instead of screws to hold the wood to adjust the angle of the backrest. Makes it run more smoothly. 5:10
thanks for the tip, i rly wasn't sure how to make it so kinda just made it up as i went along, its still good but could have been way better i think. thanks for your comment.
@@RustyDIY I’m more than happy with the beds I made. Thanks for the inspiration!
@@aa1405 this one i made is still outside has never been covered from the weather and is still going strong, but if i make another one i will make the back rest longer as i think it would be more comfortable as im quite tall.
Varnish to retain beautiful wood. Some white cushion for contemporary feel. Love this video!!! ♥️Could I do it? Probably not the back lift part. 😭😭😩
Looks awesome man, I personally like it without the paint
Thanks 😊
Dark brown varnish maybe
@@melbahill9892 Mahagony or Cherry outdoor stain with water seal.
Excellent! I often make things using recycled materials.
I love re using materials. Hate throwing good materials away seems such a waste
brilliant well conceived with simple hand tools many thanks are you able to share the dimensions of your sun bed please ?
thank you very much, i made it up as i was building it but the finish size was 700mm wide by 2000mm long the back rest that comes up is 550mm long. however
I would say if I make another one I'd make the back rest a bit longer more like 650mm as I'm quite tall 😅
Great work! What material did you use, and what dimensions?
Μπράβο
No i wszystko się sprawdziło
Maybe trying pre drilling for screws, then you wouldn’t split the wood. Also, not sure how strong those screws will be into the end grain.
ya defo i should have pre drilled but i was being lazy haha. the wood was fencing offcuts so wasn't to dry as it had been pressure treated. on the back bit the screws are something like 3inch 10s or just smaller in length and the wood is 20X45mm, so far its been a year now and there still fine iv had to tighten them where the wood dried out but otherwise good and im like 20 stone haha, also iv just left it outside all year not covered. non have broken yet, but as i say the screws are strong and the wood is strong.
i wasn't sure how else to make the back bit so it could sit flush but also move. maybe half lap joints. or rebated but then the edges would have been to big. do you have a suggestion im thinking of making another one but nicer.
This would look great with a dark stain, and a brighter mat or pillow.
Thanks for your suggestions 😊. I am going to try make a mat/pillow for it soon
Great video. How much did all the wood cost please?
well the wood was all off cuts and second hand. the 4x2 came from an old shed base, the legs are old fence posts, and the top slates are actually of cuts from fencing. the batten is called either round edge or eased edge batten and its often pressure treated for outside use as its can be a fencing material. you may see the fence panels around there quite popular atm.
Without paint or a light blue. A black n white one would look cool.
Second person to say light blue 💙 wonder if that's going to be the most popular choice

Dark brown varnish maybe
Good suggestion 👌
White
holy faark! :O

hello! is it possible to share you cutting plan please.
sorry im afraid i dont have one i just made it up as i went along, i measured most things in situ.
Light blue paint
good suggestions
What was the cost to make one of these loungers please?
It was all scrap material from fencing work so only really the cost of the screws. Round edge batton fencing is quite popular now and you end up with loads of offcuts and that's what the slats are. The main frame is 4x2 from an old decking or shed base (can't remember) and the legs are offcuts of fence posts. So the good thing was the wood was just offcuts but from pressure treated wood so it weathered well outside all year.
What type wood is this?
the frame is 4x2 treated, the legs are fence posts cut up and the slats are treated round edge batten leftover from fencing. in regards to the type of wood i am not sure sorry.
Is it possible to receive the dimensions on the bed?
Um I didn't build it to any dimension tbh I made it up as I went and made it all to fit as I went. I can measure if you want. What are you after ? Just length and width?
Okay cool, byt if you don't mind measuring the length and width, I would appreciate that very much 😁
@@tinadarling6444 no problem I will do it today and get back to you 😁
@@tinadarling6444 so it's 700mm wide by 2000mm long the back rest that comes up is 550mm long.
