I had one of Secretariat’s great grand babies too:) he was an amazing racehorse! He was a first place winner multiple times. Heartbreakingly, he passed away last month from colic. But when I tried to find his races online, I found his lineage and just couldn’t believe it! I love your story!

As proud as you are to have Secretariat in the lineage of your horse, I hope you are aware that your horse traces back to Secretariat through his daughter, Terlingua. She was one of the most famous thoroughbred broodmares out there.
On the track she was an outstanding stakes winner, and as mentioned a famous broodmare. She foaled the super majestic sire of sires, Storm Cat....who left a Huge stamp in the world of thoroughbreds. She also is the great great grand-dam of American Pharoah who won the Triple Crown in 2015. She was known as The Crown Princess and lived to be like 31 or 32 years old.
I watched my first Derby on t.v. back in 1972, when Riva Ridge won. The next year, I cheered for Secretariat, because his jockey wore the same colors as Riva Ridge and they said that Riva Ridge and Secretariat were stable mates. Secretariat hooked me into loving horse racing...and I have been a fan since then.
Myself, I always dreamed of having a descendant of Alydar.... as Alydar ended up being my all time favorite race horse. I doubt I'll ever get to see my dream come true, but it's good to see that you did and how emotional you are at the idea of having that connection to Secretariat, via your beautiful grey guy.

OMG. His mama was Terlingua? I rode for A.P.Paulson, D.Wayne Lucas, Willard Procter and many more. So I broke and galloped some nice horses, she was one of the finest.

Secretariat’s legacy is through his daughters imo. His daughters were decent racehorses in their own right, but they really shown as broodmares, passing down those genetics. Many horse people believe, myself included, that foals seem to inherit more from mom than dad. I don’t think the world will ever see Secretariats equal on the racetrack unless God decides to send us another perfect racehorse.

Hurricane Day is a big gorgeous bay 16.2 hands who is now 16 and I rescued him Februay 11, 2015 from inexperienced owners who did not know who he was. He was 7 years old and his final race was July 27, 2014. I have seen all his races after researching how to find them. I'm rejoicing with you sister!!!! Congrats and God Bless you and Blue every day. Sarah, What a wonderful story of Gods love of us! He knows ecactly what we need at any given moment! I can remember Secretariats race as if it were yesterday! I and my daddy watched it together, our mouths agape. Daddy raised working and running quarter horses as a hobby and I do believe that was the last horserace we watched on television together. We raised a whole herd of horses that we were pretty proud of back in the 60's and 70's, until his death in 81. I miss him and those horses so!
It is said in a cowboys life, he will only find his perfect horse once in a lifetime. My daddy found his, I found mine and you found yours! God bless you, girl after this grammys heart!

What a wonderful story and so happy for Ann that she bought this horse when she did. So happy for Gentleman Breck that he found such a loving, kind owner for the rest of his days. I will never forget seeing Secretariat win the Triple Crown races and especially what he did in the Belmont with his 31 length lead and 2:24 time. That feeling of being completely stunned by what had just happened and the joy that he had won. He moved like he could do it all day and like he was truly enjoying himself out on that Belmont track. It was amazing! I still love to watch the reruns that they play this time year as we begin the Triple Crown races.

Secretariat sired nearly 500 folds and of those 500 folds more than 1000 offspring were also born and of those offspring thousands more. Secretariat died in 1986 at the age of 19. So 30+ years have passed and thousands of folds have been sired of Grandsons and grand-daughters of that magnificent horse. The bloodlines today are very very thin and aren't very significant in racing today. None of his original offspring ever matched his athletic abilities or even came close to his abilities. A great horse is a process of selective breeding such in Secretariats case...his Father was Bold Ruler and his Mother was SomethingRoyal. Both of these horses had a strong lineage and were of great breeding. Unfortunately, today's racehorses rarely compare to what Penny Chinnery achieved with Secretariat. I'm happy that you got your wish to have some part of the greatest Race Horse in history. He's a beautiful animal. He is one of the lucky ones who has survived past his 5th birthday as many of Secretariats remaining offspring of his offsprings, offspring are sold to slaughterhouses once people who purchased them for racing realize that they can't reproduce his success. It's a tragic ending for these animals that people buy simply because his name lies somewhere in the history of the bloodlines of a new fold. I know this story is 5 years old but I pray you still have that beautiful horse. He's magnificent...and even with his white coat you can see he dawns a lot of Secretariats strength.

How true that is...one has to be with their horses everyday in order not only to bond with them, but also to ride and train them properly....my dad was right.....He loved horses and had his own personal horse when he was a teenager....one where only he was able to handle and ride it... no one else could. Now Ruffian was a fine fily. Bold Ruler is one of the GREATEST foundation sires ever, in my opinion.

It’s good that fillies and colts didn’t race in the same groups. That way they can BOTH hold their “ Best Horse” titles. She was absolutely gorgeous! And that could never be argued. I’m going to find her movie and watch it. Sadly, I was born in September of ‘73 and never saw these greats run personally. That’s about the only time I wish I were a solid ten years older. Lol. But watching Secretariat’s old footage now brings me to tears and takes my breath away. I can’t wait to see Ruffian’s footage and learn more about her!

I also owned a great great grandson of Secretariat…..and his mother was a granddaughter. Both were registered Appaloosa’s. Secretariat’s first foal was with a nurse mare named Leola. He was named First Secretary and was a chestnut Appy with a spotted blanket. My mare was colored almost exactly like Secretariat and was feisty while her son was the ultimate western pleasure horse. Both were ApHC champions.

I have a Northern Dancer or Storm Cat Granddaughter (I have to check her papers again) but she was never raced or bred, currently a retired polo pony living out her days with her "Boyfriend" a 30 year old APHA named Painted Music King (Rex).. my only two pure breds. (Rex is my pic) I always tend to like the mystery horses more, but I love them all.

I read a long time ago that both Secretariat and another three crown winner measured longer in torso - from back legs to front legs so it made the difference in distance over the long haul? Anyone hear or read that?
