I wasn't familiar with mahoraga's game. Everyone is so used to mahoraga getting bodied that most people will assume that mahoraga isn't smart but throwing his arms as missiles catches me off guard
That's the problem with a lot of anime these days. I have to look towards RUclipsrs to understand the fight. Where I should have understood it while watching the episode. People call this insane and I call it a bad direction. Yuji and Todo vs Mahito was much better because it was way cleaner and the direction was clean

I feel so vindicated, because so many people were saying "This fight was dumb, they had mahoraga punching air like an idiot, like what was that even supposed to be?" And I tried to tell those people "He's can't guess when he's being faked out so he's spamming punches waiting for the real slash to happen!" I feel like this gives us a better idea of how Maharaga adapts, it's more then just attacks, but also styles and even strategies

Sukuna is so self-absorbed that he takes something as simple as a fake out as corruption. They are destroying countless innocent lives and Mahoraga is literally mutilating itself to win but a fake out is what he's fixated on. I love that Mappa highlighted this part of his character!

Mahoraga certainly lives up to his moniker. A good general is adaptable, resourceful, fearless, and able to make the hard choices in the moment. He displayed all of these qualities in abundance during his showdown with Sukuna.

Here are the side stories I want to see after the manga ends:
1) Mahoraga in the shikigami world and the origin of Shikigami
2) Kusakabe and his comeup. How a sorcerer with just a sword became the #1 Grade 1.
3) Yuki's story from being a star plasma vessel, Jujutsu High student, and then raising Aoi Todo.
4) The story of Kenjaku and all of his shennanigans for hundreds of years up to the beginning of JJK 0.
5) Yuji's Grandpa and his days as a sorcerer up until Yuji was born, featuring his sorcerer mother as well.

It wasn't intended to be understood on a first or even second viewing. That's what one of the directors said. They were prioritizing the *feel* of the strongest fighting as opposed to understanding the battle field

Tbf mahoraga is technically a very old entity inuniverse so he mightve "lied" before, it's just that every mahoraga summoned is like a freshly born fawn and doesn't keep previous knowledge

this interpretation on adaptation is so wicked tbh, like mahoraga is an AI learning in real time. I don't know how to explain this but these things are so refreshing; it's also a nice contrast to jogo's fight against sukuna because what truly made Jogo lose was the fact that he knew he was at a disadvantage so he tried to keep a distance and avoid getting hit, and not fight carefree with strategies such as big raga's

Sukuna tells Jogo that his biggest weakness was his attachments and his lover mentality. That being said, Jogo had no chance against 15 finger Sukuna no matter what. He's not a mindless adaptation machine like Maho, he would've never thought up attacking Sukuna with his severed limbs and it wouldn't have worked regardless. Sukuna know the bet he made, he was refusing to let himself be hit.

It's cool because it shows just how sneaky and petty Sukuna is, but despite this "corruption", its to the General's benefit. He's supposed to be the ultimate war machine. So having him go from a straightforward yet adaptive berserker to a plotting and calculated (yet still animalistic) fighter only makes him a more effective killer.
If Sukuna had played with him too long he would have adapted enough to kill him. Even Sukuna realized this and activated his dominan expansion at full power before using a full powered Fuga arrow to kill it that's the level of respect Sukuna had for Maoragas power.

@nickmotion which that wasn't the point, Hakuyu Go wanted to go with something that isn't fully easily understandable, as in his eyes, of we could easily understand the fight, the original point of it has gone out the window, even when you go back and re-watch it, you can start to understand smaller details about the fight that makes sense, the first viewing is supposed to be a bit incomprehensible, but once you go back, you understand it more, you can literally go back and see people who were able to understand the added scenes, they literally understood Sukuna was feinting maho, they understood Maho adapted to it and caught Sukuna off guard etc, it's not a case of being bad, it's about preference, you can not like the direction instead of calling it bad
I noticed just by the feints.
I think it's scarier to know that instead of attacking slashes we cant see due to cinematic reasons, he's throwing out attacks on purpose so that no matter how you attack him, he uses his body as a projectile and he's constantly prepared to attack you

People say a lot that the “fights carry the show” but in jjk that’s taken to an entirely different level because it feels like most of the time the fights tell a better story than even the manga.
This is so interesting because it completely recontextualizes adaptation. He doesn’t just physically adapt like changing his body so that the attack doesn’t work, he mentally and strategically adapts to an attack by using the technique against the opponent in whatever way they can.
That's how it is in the manga too. It's stated that mahoraga "tells" sukuna about adaptations and developments in his fight with gojo

Mahoraga see the slashes when he was shadow boxing, the animators add things but respect the manga...the fight take longer and one of the great thing they show, its Mahoraga walking through Malevolent shrine which is the result of the adaptation from all those slashes in the anime, Mahoraga nearly take a stage 2 of adaptation like he did with Gojo if Sukuna didn't finish him off on time, it would have been interesting to see Mahoraga skin become harder or become intangible to the slashes, unaffected against Malevolent shrine.

Okay, I see how Mahoraga's Adaptation works now; at first I understood it as Mahoraga would passively adapt to any ability or cursed technique thrown at him and eventually become passively immune to it, like evolution on steroids. But it actually works more like a strategist- he identifies the fighting style of whomever he fights and changes his own style to counter his opponent, with the wheel indicating the level of thought he's putting into it.
Does this mean that if Megumi had tamed Mahoraga he would have taught him to try to summon Mahoraga at the slightest inconvenience?

So he’s not hitting sukunas slash’s he’s literally just preparing to in order to latch his arms ?
I had a feeling he was adapting and creating a counter attack because when the screen fades to black usually that means slashes are coming, mahoraga had the same fade when he teleported to sukuna and did the stare down. Secondly when mahoraga does that punch the screen inverts black and white the same way when sukuna uses his slashes. So maharaga adapted to the slashes and attack in the same manner as the slashes. If you read the manga and know how mahoraga can "make a model" I believe the animators put that concept into this fight. I'm surprised they actually explained what was happening I'm glad I caught that

Watching the full scene with this added context is amazing. The wheel is spinning like crazy, suddenly stops, and the very next attack is Mahoraga landing that punch. Definitely satisfying as fuck.

im gonna be honest but i dont like this part i think that added dialog or added time to show was happening was very needed. overall this sounds like an awesome concept now that i know the direction but the fact that no one could tell what was happening really sucks and maybe that was because it was just a blue ray release special but i just wish that they somehow made it more clear

Great side stories. My favourite one is yuki’s side story, what was her journey and reaction about being a star plasma vessel, how did she refuse it and how that went down since she probably just said no and they couldn’t do anything to force her. What happened that made her hate the higher ups, her journey to being a special grade and after. Her teaching to todo.
Also wanna see how gojo was brought up, perfect way for us to get to see the gojo family. What was their reaction to seeing a member give birth to a limitless and six eyes user. His upbringing, meeting with other members of the family and also with zenin and kamo, all that

What humbled the strongest being on the planet to make him go from "Don't look at me, small fry" to being willing to turn the world upside down just to save a single star plasma vessel from dying.

What would have been better is if in the scene where mahoraga throws a fake punch sukuna being the faster fighter was aware of it but because he is going with the flow and wants to completely understand mahoraga he purposely reacts to the faint as to lead mahoraga to believe that he has the upper hand.
I find it really interesting that it went on a way different direction than the manga, we saw Mahoraga Deflect a slash from sukuna when we could see the damage be diverted by Mahoragas swing, something similar seemed to happen when we saw Mahoraga shadow box and then splatter over a wall I was 100% convinced that was mahoraga blocking some slashes and then getting hit, the scene afterwards I assumed Mahoraga had adapter well enough that he actually countered/deflected all slashes, instead hes basically "shooting" hes arms but they dont come off its... Strange, truly an alien mindset (Who out there would go "a yes I'll hit him with my arm once he cuts it off thats my main method of attack against him" ?)
I liked the idea of the deflections better but this is a different kind of interesting
