At the CAL FIRE Academy, they attached a anti-roll device (looks like a crab) to a 26,000 pound fire engine and students practice high speed maneuvers similar to what CHP does with their patrol vehicles. It's a sight to see a vehicle that large do a full 360 and the students regain control and continue on.
When I went through the police academy, I also had zero experience with a firearm. I intently listened to my instructors in how to shoot the weapon and was getting great scores. My fellow cadets were asking me to help them shoot to get a good score. At the end of the police academy, there was a first place trophy for the best marksman. It was between me and another cadet as we shot from different positions, standing, kneeling, behind cover on your belly. We were neck and neck. I lost to the other cadet on the belly position. I learned my competition was a Marine veteran.
Love this show. But the videos need to be longer.. we need full 1 hour shows.
Happy to hear you enjoy it!
@@CaliforniaHighwayPatrolTV I am partaking in the Massachusetts state police exam next month, Hour episodes would help with my test prep haha
I was thinking that too, reminds me of Police Academy and Fire Academy reality tv shows from like 2009? I think. Miss that, this is similar but too short 😅
I always will remember in my life not following up on my CHP career. I passed the written exam on or about 1997, I failed the exam my first time. I studied and practiced, on the second try I was the third one to finish written exam, I knew I had passed. I really wanted to become a member of California's finest. I was doing good financially selling radio advertising and and running my security company in San Diego. I was little scared leaving my wife and two baby girls at home and getting out of that comfort zone. If you are planning applying with CHP go for it. Don't hesitate and ask for help, that way to get everything lined up, when you are invited to to the CTC. Do it, don't be like me. My cousin retired from CHP, and has always says "you bonehead" you should joined, you would made a great STO. Our first two daughters are married and have good jobs, I've been persuading our third daughter to apply, but she is considering veterinary school - wish me luck. God Bless the CHP family and stay safe!
Thank you for your support!
Had you gone ahead and done it, you and I might have been classmates. I graduated CTC II-98 and have had an absolute blast of a career. The people (uniformed and non) who work for the CHP are a class act. The absolute best of the best, and our mission is just. I'm planning on retiring this year when I turn 50. But, truth be told, I can't think of anything else I'd rather do. When asked, I compare it to being at a really cool party and knowing that your time to leave is coming up but trying to make excuses to stay a while longer.
This is exactly what I’m at right now. I’m good in backgrounds I’m just so overthinking it. Idk if I can leave this comfort I have to go. I needed to read this
@@tile_life6819 blessings my brother, go do what your heart tells you. I wish you the best, but do not wait for the right moment or time. Time passes and fast, go do the CTC CHP and graduate. Don't get to 35 YOA, I believe thats the age limit and say " Billy was right, I should of followed thru". Remember my story, don't repeat it.
@@robertoiniguez3514 I know my brother I should of gone to Sacramento, I wanted K-9 detail. My cousin #12000's, CTC 1-88 drove the Mustang 5.0, then on to BMW motorcycle, he had a blast. He now does PT real estate sales and we go fishing often. I wish you a happy retirement and may GOD continue to bless you and your family. That last 10-10 call will be tough. I tear up watching some videos. Thank you for serving California and its people.
Honestly, this EVOC course is what is scaring me the most out of the academy. I had buddies pass away due to hydroplaning and car accidents so I hope I’ll be able to pass EVOC
EVOC for me was very fun. But then again I went to the academy in Colorado and we don’t do hydroplaning scenarios
Just take your time, listen to the instructors and you will be fine. Don't rush anything. They aren't looking for speed just smooth control.
Hey bro you can find driving instructors for EVOC and tell them ur training for the CHP evoc
@@goldieshortzz8200 where would I find those at ?
it’ll be the best week of the academy i guarantee it
Great episode! EVOC looks so challenging, skid pan looks kind of fun though😂. Can't wait for the next episode 💙
My son is in his 13th week at the academy. I knew the toughest part for him would be EVOC so I made sure to help him by finding him an EVOC class to attend prior to him starting the academy. So i enrolled him twice in that class lol. The class really helped him haha. Everything else from DUI reports to PMA he did while in the CHP explorers. GO CHP! 👍
Who did you go to for that class? I get inquires all the time from my students who need help.
@@markfields2089i took my son to the EVOC class offered by the Alameida County Sheriff's. They fill up quickly.
EVOC driving seems overwhelming with the high speed they're driving and then with the sliding, skidding would make me dizzy too... I'm sooo enjoying watching these videos though 🎉🎉👍👍
Bobby! Let's gooooo!
I LOVED my EVOC training at the Academy. It was the first time I had driven a vehicle with an automatic transmission so that was interesting. Late in my career I was a manager in HQ and we decided to have an in-service EVOC day. That was one of the best training days I ever had on the job.
Right on!
I am always so Excted to watch these episodes!

Always looking forward to Wednesdays!

This is a great video. Hopefully it prepares me for my furture
In what way?
Best of luck!
Love this series, maybe you guys can record some ride along videos I think we would all love to see that.
Those are in the works!
Cant wait to see the new tahoes on the skid pan
11:41 Gone but never forgotten
I love ❤
I wanted to do chp so dang bad! My record is clean but I’ve done some things that I’m ashamed of in the past and unfortunately it won’t let me pass the poly exam 😔
im glad its Wednesday .
LOL, every day is a Wednesday from what I hear now.
Question, how long does each of these lessons take? Like to learn and pratice? I never caught that part. Love the videos you guys make, every episode is great!
It is several sessions during the entire academy. They work with each cadet with what they need. Depends on the cadet.
No shuffle steering?
No one passes this one though 😂
they need mask out at the range but they don't need mask inside the vehicle with fellow cadets?
Lol these cadets complaining about the weight of the M&P.....
6:32 look up CHP officer Mark Saylor…. Was he a “good trained CHP driver” ? 🤔🤔
Died due to mechanical failure in a Lexus.
@@anniesmythe5445 still not sure about that. Some people think the carpet held a pedal down, but there were other things to do besides crashing and dying that way… Scrape against the Seren divider and try to slow the car down before you crash. He says he cannot turn the car off, likely because he did not know how to use the engine off button that was fairly new at the time. That’s why I do not like those start stop buttons, I’d rather have a key. He could’ve put the car into park exploding the engine and transmission, but the car would’ve stopped… If he’s so trained, why did he panic?
6:32 what is a good driver? I have 500,000 miles of motorcycle riding.. But i club raced at Willow Springs raceway for 2 yrs.. All those miles does not prepare you for high speed riding.. 2 different things
I don’t know why these tyrant training videos keep popping up.
That’s sad if u think that
@@Dulex321 It’s sad that you don’t.
@@remoevans7847 why would I call ppl is tyrants? Don’t call 911 when in need

No kidding .. brain washing recruits into thinking they are heroes
Learn the oath you will take and the Constitution first.. How about that?
I’m unclear about your point? This video isn’t to show their knowledge on the constitution. It’s to demonstrate what the academy is like and what interested applicants can expect to experience if they are interested in this profession. Don’t salt a good video that has information we want to know.
@@A_R_T95 because recruits do not take the oath seriously.. That’s what we ( police /govt accountability ) are fighting for.. Not better 👮🏻drivers.. Salting this posting is part of the 1st amendment.. But the channel is free to delete my comments👍🏿
@@A_R_T95 oh.. back the blue no matter what they do until it happens to you.. Have a great weekend 👍🏿
Apply. Be the change you seek
@@mygolfballsannoy the only thing you’ve illustrated is that you still don’t get the point of the video that titled “driven”. You’ve taken a broad topic and applied it to a specific video meant to demonstrate the experience at the CHP academy. This has zero to do with what my politics are in police or policing as whole. It’s an informational video not a political debate. If you’re so outraged about the curriculum they teach to law enforcement, you could do more to change or influence than to salt a good video. But go ahead and change the mind of people through your dumb comments.
