I like the fact that you can create the character that you envisioned or makes the most sense to you. For Instance, just because you are strong doesn't make you great at fighting with a sword . It takes "Intelligence" to pick up and understand proper sword fighting techniques or "Wisdom" to learn and get experience from your training session mistakes. Go to any gym in the world and you will find plenty of strong dudes that don't know how to fight. 😂
With the character sheet full of dots, building it by assigning points and how the character development can go, I start to see DC20 system as a sweetspot fusion of the simplicity, yet tactical soundness of 5e and the freeform narrative focus of Storyteller systems (World of Darkness, Exalted, Scion...), making it a great choice for high-power (which,as per the Spiderman theorem, also means high-responsibility and high-stakes) high-magic fantasy games. WANT!
You are kind and sincere individual. Your little speech about the paid alpha was a good explanation. I have my own opinions about those mentioning the cost of the alpha 🤷♂️ but you are much kinder and less opinionated man than I. Keep up the good work and thank you for your hard work and creativity. Love what you are doing.
Awesome as always! Only thing I would want more of on the character sheet is more room for the features and spells. Great work and keep it up, can't wait for the ancestry and backgrounds!
I like most of this, but untyped skills seem like they'll be a problem in gameplay, they had them in 3.5, and took them out in later editions for a reason. If Bruce is the *only* person with Hulk Sciences, that means it'll either never come up, or when it does, no one else will be able to participate. It's better to have a few Broad Categories that 'pretty much' cover everything.
I agree in general with @guanae's point, if it comes up its either Bruce gets it or no one does which isn't great. However I think there could still be room for such specialization customization. Perhaps it just needs to be tied to one of the core Knowledge skills. Let's say Hulk Science is decided to be Arcana based in a conversation with the DM. Thus Bruce puts one pip in Arcana and under specialization one pip in Arcana- Hulk Science. When something related to hulks comes up anyone with Arcana can roll, however Bruce gets a bonus. Maybe it is simple, a single pip (which gives you adv when rolling about this specialization) or it can be several pips each giving higher bonuses which you could choose to invest in down the line to become hyper specialized? I don't know. @@TheDungeonCoach
Pathfinder 2e does something like this with lore skills to represent a particular expertise (for example, my character has shadow plane lore and ratfolk lore). With their multiple levels of training, though, it's a heavy investment to progress a lore skill instead of a normal skill that will come up a lot, unless you actually take the feat to have that lore scale with your level. In their recent remaster they just added said feat to your ancestry lore feat to compensate. I agree that having a specialization of a skill rather than an entirely new skill might make more sense.
💜. Yo, Coach! This is a question and a possible suggestion, on 4:49 you said the Prime Attribute represents your overall experience as an adventurer. Since almost all players would use a 3 on an Attribute, why not just make it a fixed value like [Level + 2] (I'm only taking Level 1 into account since I don't have the alpha, it's kinda expensive on my native coin 😢). This would open space for character concepts with more balanced attributes and represent characters that use one or more attributes in tandem to be good. Unless the lower prime attribute is how you balance thus kind of character. Anyway, loving the DC20 videos, keep the good work man!
A version of Hulk basically is tied to part of Hell, the Green Hell or something... I don't remember most of it since I'm not a comic fan, but I think it was during the Amadeus Cho run where he took the Hulk from Bruce. So Occultism would fit better than Arcana, probably lol. Edit: So 2 things, one being a question... Can casters still cast Spells while at Death's Door, as long as they only take 1 AP? Do they need to make a Concentration Check or something to do so? Would be great to mention in your next caster video, too. Secondly, I think it'd be nicer to NOT have the Attack/To Hit box buried in the middle. If AC is top right, maybe swap the Attack box and Death Save box? Put "To hit" under "To get hit" lol. Just a thought. Idk, maybe get other opinions.
What's the reasoning for having prime modifier and combat mastery be separate modifiers? They're both descriptions of generally how effective you are as an adventurer, and since you've divorced your attack modifier from a specific attribute, wouldn't it be simpler to have your the modifier be the same stat your using to calculate other combat numbers? The scaling is even pretty similar, starting at 1ish and converging at 5 at level 9.
Pretty sure this video says I'm misunderstanding how pick your own Prime works, but I've got this mental image now of a Might based Warlock who just keeps making bets with demons/fey/whatever on arm-wrestling contests and coming out on top every time and I kind of love it
The Incredible Hulk is my fav comicbook character of all time! (excluding Savage Sword of Conan). Your understanding the layers of character is refreshing! DC20 is not limited like other systems and allow for some excellent opportunistic to play the type of character you wanted to play! nice!!
This works pretty well as is, but it would be nice to have an option to switch stats around (ex: Might Intelligence) in combat. Obviously this would have to be counter balanced so that the character is not overpowered. This is could either be a general Talent or maybe a Barbarian subclass (or both!)
I was thinking something like that would be cool as a curse. If you're trying to prevent it from happening, make a mental save, if you fail your Int and Might flip
Yeah, I agree about alchemy. Remember, in the TV show, his transformation was more chemical than radioactive. And also more Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (almost famous alchemist)
Came from Treantmonk's video. Very excited for this system! But I did want to offer one small note of mine. In DC20, language and word usage is very important. Would you consider changing the term "Heavy Hit" for "Strong Hit"? I just think reusing "heavy" in the context of a character's attack and defense might be confusing because "Heavy" is placed within the defenses in the character sheet, which might make players think it's tied to "Heavy Armor". Idk, small suggestion. But good luck on this system! Very interested in playing this with my friends!
Ive played a hyper intelligent orc barbarian and i was able to Galler so much information for my party because everyoje thought I was just a a normal orc idiot qnd I was able to help my party so much
I'm loving the direction of this system, so much more creatively free! Question, if you have a prime attribute, could you also have a prime skill? Say for example, I wanted to make a bard or warlord that is Intelligence based because the culture and history of his people are important to him and studied. Could I use Intelligence for performance, knowing how an instrument sounds best, knowing all the keys and modes, knowing what muscles to activate for the best sound in vocals?
I do not believe that this fixes the problem, you're still playing a not-optimal barbarian: If your defense is the sum of your might and your agility, wouldn't you want these to be your highest attributes? 👀
Hi Coach! I love what you do with this game and can not wait for the day of it will be fully realise. But I have a question about languages. Could you add one fluent language to a background or class? For example barbarian will have some tibal, home dialect if he live in wildes with his kind or some common if he was kindnaped by army and never learn his fathers toungh..
I have to ask wearing light armor does have any kind of advantage compared to heavy armor? Because if not what would be the point for a martial to use light armor compared to the other
I feel like "charisma" is an overworked word from D&D. I would change that attribute name to "Influence", and change the skill of "Influence" to "Persuasion"

For language, "Broken", "Conversational" and "Fluent" make real-world sense for describing someone's level of fluency

Any chance we will see an Artificer class? I have had so much fun with it in 5e. I'd love to see them be a core class DC20 supports out of the box.
