However, eventually cannons and drilling became much more important. No none Western power would ever field large quantities of drilled armies that march in formation, that would be the antithesis of noble warfare. They also didn't have the technology and expertise to produce high quality cannons. So by the 17th century and onwards, the Russians, with their newly Westernized armies, began taking over practically all of the Eurasian plains.

The main issue with horses and bows is for starters you have to feed all of the horses, which is difficult in certain parts of the world, the other one is your army is very terrain based, that’s why the steppe and the vast open grounds basically from China to Poland all the way to Morocco are fantastic for horse archers and large horse armies, the problem is when you have to siege a city, or fight in terrain like jungles or forrests, which become quite precedent in Europe, India and south east Asia, hence we kinda see the natural borders on what even the mongols and the Arabian armies could control, and of course some important events that affected it but it’s not a coincidence that European armies are basically the inverse of steppe armies with lots of infantry and a bit of cavalry. It’s just better to have that lot of infantry for the European terrain and how varied it is, a lot of it is hills and forests and mountains which just isn’t very good for massive amounts of horse archers 🤷‍♂️

7:53 After converting to islam , Bagrat convinced Timur to give him an army to convert the rest of Georgia, but actually warned his sons about the coming army, which he led into a trap and slaughtered. Saying that Timur was angered is an understatement, as he attacked Georgia a further seven times between 1387-1403, causing irreperable damage and contributing to the kingdom's final demise.

@@Eabokor1 Unnecessary mass murder in Georgia? That was Timur's MO when dealing with anyone after a time. He sacked Baghdad, killing everyone but artisans, which he sent back. He went on a killing spree in Damascus, citing things a thousand years before during Umayyad dynasty, and the killing of Mohamed's sons, etc - as the reason for his 1000 year late massacre.... Needless? Yeah, that covers it.
It wasn't even about conversions really; he once hit an Islamic town, and ordered every soldier to collect 200 human heads and return. They ran out of men to kill... So they killed all the campaign's prisoners. And that still wasn't enough, so they killed some of their own women... Yeah, a psychopath doesn't begin to describe it.
But yeah, after the betrayal going on in Georgia; he felt like doing much more of the same up there too. He was just not the type of person you wanted to get on the bad side with, especially if you weren't far enough away with some sort of super army. Similar to Genghis in that way.

"The core of Timur's armies during his career were the Chagatai Khanite. Skilled horse archers and cavalry, supplemented by subject peoples. Overtime he replaced tribal leaders with family and followers. Keeping his army constantly on campaign made it difficult for his generals to develop alternative power bases or conspire against him. The key to Timurid military success was Timur himself. Not just a phenomenal tactician, Timur thoroughly prepared for each campaign and gather all possible intelligence on the weakness of his enemies. He led every campaign, rarely delegating power, keeping his troops loyal through rich plunder and the provinces loyal through fear"
Sounds like what really made Timur so success was going old school Mongolian. Using the very same strategies, military organization and leadership that made the great Genghis so successful in the first place. If the Mongols ever had a second coming of Genghis Khan, Tamerlane came the closest to being worthy of the great Khan's mantle.

unlike his predecessor Timir actively raped well defended cities and one time he burnt the supporting structure of walls to crumble them and then next time he had Persian built 100's of catapults for him and take the city old fashioned way.
He was best of both worlds and he even defeated ottoman army with Guns and cannons.....why?
He actively used them in battlefield....his ability to adapt and being man of both worlds along with his intelligence was his super power.

It`s true. Timur attacked Tbilisi in 1386 and captured Bagrat V, the Queen and a small group of Georgian nobles after a six months siege. Having realized that he didn`t have a chance, Bagrat "converted" to Islam and asked Timur to give him an army to convert his people as well. Timur did give him the army of 12,000 men. After that, Bagrat secretly got in touch with his son Giorgi VII and organized an ambush. Soon after, that army of 12,000 Timurids were lured into the ambush and slaughtered. Because of that, Timur devastated Georgia eight times from 1386 to 1403.

In this video author just generally mentions Timur invading Georgia many times but does not explain anything, i get it that this video just for general info about his reign but i would suggest to read more about this, its very interesting. He invaded Georgia total of 8 times and reason behind of such a dedication was because Georgians ambushed and defeated his armies few times and they showed a huge resistance to invading hordes which made him furious and his plan was to either convert whole country to islam or either kill each of Georgian. He really was one evil monster.
