  • Bryan Caplan, a professor of Economics at George Mason University, presents "Build Baby Build: The Science and Ethics of Housing Regulation." Caplan's book delves into the complex world of housing regulations, offering a fresh perspective on the benefits of deregulation. Through a combination of research and a comic book format, Caplan highlights the significant gains that could be achieved by allowing developers to build more freely. He identifies key regulations that hinder construction, such as restrictions on building height, limitations on multifamily housing, and minimum lot size requirements. Caplan argues that deregulating housing could lead to a substantial decrease in housing costs, thereby improving overall living standards. He also explores how deregulation could reduce inequality, increase social mobility, boost fertility rates, benefit the environment, and even decrease crime rates. Caplan challenges the notion that strict regulations are necessary, advocating instead for targeted solutions to address specific concerns. "Build Baby Build" offers readers a compelling case for rethinking housing regulations.

I live near the 1 acre per lot neighborhood and noticed that the left culture who live there use the gnat catcher or erosion or some other green reason why we need to zone for high degree of rural-ness.
