I really believe we human beings are all very similar underneath the skin..Also adore The Mentalist!!!!!! Thank-you so much for this great interview!!!

    Simon is such an insightful, generous, articulate and intelligent human. Movie suggestion for Simon ... the original "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier. Also, his emotional connection with Australia, his true love for his Austrailia is heartfelt and moving. Rare these days!

      That is a good recommendation.
      I liked these below with some similar themes, true stories yet somewhat fictionalized to move movie plot lines.
      The Last King of Scotland. Colonialism story that left problems and then in comes a dictator that is worse.
      Mr. And Mrs. Loving, I saw the one with Hutton.
      Dances with Wolves. Costner produced this as I recall and many as I recall at the time thought it wasn't going to make it. Native Americans did comment they liked it because it depicted them more realistically as a people with a culture and life and family like other humans.

    • @InterestedToReply
      @InterestedToReply Год назад

      Also one other I would recommend is The Great White Hope. Also a more realistic view, but at an earlier time period. It is based on real people as I recall although I'm sure that some of this was fictionalized.

    Simon, “Boy swallows Universe” is wonderful, & I’ve already watched it 3 times because it is so rich but also real in the sense that people swear & get into trouble & have messy lives, & you surprised me with your character as a drunk, with the whole of your house filled with books. Right away I thought there is more to this character & I had hope for you. The kids who were the main part of the film especially Eli, his acting was amazing. Bryon Brown was a wonderful gruff teacher or babysitter, who told Eli about prison & the nasty stuff that goes on there. Great film & great subject matter. Thx

      I'm not sure of your ages, but I see it the way Simon does. He's a child of the 70s and 80s as myself was except I'm a little older by a few years. It is the way things were taught then and I'd say in any country with European colonialism history with some variation on the historic events.
      Same in the US as mentioned here, except Native Americans. Their history was left out in our schooling years here as well back then. They were depicted to be savages and uneducated and scarey. But that's not a real true depiction. They were just not as advanced a civilization as Europe. If you looked at the way they treated criminals in England during the Renaissance, it looked about as savage and perhaps more so than any Native American.

    As an Australian born of Aboriginal. Simon Baker doesn't even look or sound Australian. He sounds more linked to the mental health epidemic in the States.
    The CIA oust Australian Labor Party Prime Minister Whitlam. Not to know that you would have to be pretty twisted. I don't need any Brit to lecture me about Australia and my people. This is our story, not the British story ..In the city of Sydney, there's a Statue of Queen Victoria on display with some Irish or British soldier with a tin hat at a War memorial.
    But there's no memorial for the First Nations people's genocide. So yeah, it's really nice to be white from England in Australia and the States. The rest of Australia got left behind.
    The US anti-China policy in Australia. It's almost as if the US media is obsessed with portraying China in a negative light, which is both creepy and laughable.
    The US wants to turn Australia into another Ukraine.
    Tucker Carlson supported the white supremacist attack on US democracy. Clive Palmer paid Tucker Carlson to BS about Australia. Don't be a sucker for Tucker. Vladimir Putin Destroyed Tucker Carlson's low IQ American Journalists!
    Plus: It's important to note that Criminal Donald Trump's administration indicted Julian Assange, leading to his imprisonment in Belmarsh. Given the controversy, many believe Trump and US presidents should not be welcomed in Australia. The USA is all corrupted. Why are they here interviewing?

    I think Simon's role could have been written more skilfully. He's got incredible acting skills , and the final scenes of the movie don't do him good.
    His facial expressions were uncanny in the scene when he was hand-cuffed to his bed after being shot and hurt. I think the writer should have thrown in some lines for Simon. The same thing applies to his final scene where he dies. He just calls out the boy's real aboriginal name and that's it!?
    The movie is great,and treads on dangerous ground regarding the issue of racism and colonizing Australia. But when it comes to giving Simon Baker a solid role to fully demonstrate his acting skills, I think the writer and director failed at doing it.

  • @annieklepper4120
    @annieklepper4120 3 года назад +2

    How about this would be a positively horrendous time to do a movie about politics, either Australian or American. People are so polarized and heart felt either one way or another, That a complex movie would just turn them off. I know it would me. Plus it wasn't Australians that pushed back the Aborigines, it was England, The English who colonized every country and pushed back all natives on every continent and the only country that won it's freedom was the US.(granted France was involved). Mr Baker seems to be very English in his love of Australia and not so American even though that's where he made his fame and money
    Does Simon Baker look in the mirror and not want to be handsome? Does growing roughage make him feel better ? He has a twisted interior.

      You are obviously American Annie. Just for the record, it wasn’t just the English (aka Great Britain) who colonized “every country.”. Try adding Spain, France, Portugal, Holland, Belgium and Italy. The Australians pushed back the aboriginal people just the way the Americans and Canadians did - and still do. Simon Baker loves Australia because he IS Australian - not English.

    • @annieklepper4120
      @annieklepper4120 3 года назад +1

      @@jackiehamilton9375 Yes, you are correct, The point I was making is that Aussies still are completely attached to the royals in England who hold them hostage and they still bow. Even though they were criminals sent to a penal colony. Yes, other countries colonized, including the US and Simon baker is welcome to love his country, just as we do ours. But really we'd like Simon to come back and entertain us again.

    • @InterestedToReply

      It begs to ask the question, when is the right time?
      He seems Australian to me. And being an American, he enjoys the same freedom of speech we do with rights to comment about what he thinks. You can find it in the constitution that we Americans say we believe in.
