Amazing Engineering projects in Latvia (Part - 1)
1. Shroud Bridge, (Latvian: Vanšu tilts) means Cable-stayed bridge which is 595 meters in length, it is one of five bridges crossing the river Daugava in Riga.
The bridge was built during the Soviet period and opened to public use on 21 July 1981 as the Gorky Bridge.
2. National Library of Latvia, also known as Castle of Light.
Designed by architect Gunnar Birkerts in 1989 and was buit in 2014.
3. Latvian Academy of Sciences
Designed by architects Osvalds Tīlmanis, Vaidelotis Apsītis, and Kārlis Plūksne. Was built between 1951 and 1961. Being 108 metres tall, it was the first skyscraper in Latvia.
4. Railway Bridge
Inaugurated in 1914, rebuilt after World War I in 1918 and and World War II in 1955.
The bridge is nowadays the only railway bridge in Riga.
5. Mežaparks Great Bandstand, also called the Song Festival Bandstand or Open-Air Stage.
Designed by architect and civil engineer Vladimir Schnitnikov. Inaugurated in 1955, rebuilt in 2018.
