This song has always been sad, but THIS version in particular is absolutely beautifully heartbreaking
Wow such deep emotional memories come out to this song! My childhood was amazing with my grandparents! I still remember her rocking me and singing this song to me! How happy safe loved and content I was in her arms! Her hand my blanket and it kept me warm!
My grandma sang it too. But if you read all the lyrics, it's pretty dark.

I suppose illiterate people could interpret it in many ways but the singer is directly addressing someone who said they loved him and that no one could come between them. I wouldn't expect that standard from a friend or roommate.

I love this band but they murdered the song.
I think this is the best one of their new album. I'm not attached to the older version, which is really soppy. This has a bite to it that I like a lot.
