This is what I like about Uncle Stu - While I'm always happy to fanboy along anything related to Royal Enfield, Stu doesn't forget about the other horses in his stable and if he gets the chance to checkout a new accessory for them, it will be reviewed with the same passion and attention to detail, while keeping it real and not taking himself too seriously. Have a happy holidays and I am looking forward to the content coming in 2023 - whether they are RE relate or not 🙂

I bought a cruiser bike when I fist started this hobby, and hated the crash bar look understanding what they did, felt like I should have put them on. But I didn't. 4 years later, sold it with out a drop. Met another rider, with the same bike and color, and he had them fitted on his as he had dropped his bike many times. Then got a big sport touring bike and never put them on that, and dropped it 2 times. Standing still and getting off after a long day, not putting the side stand down. Now, I just feel like 21 years and no real damage and 2 drops as mentioned, Idon't, but love the video! Ride like you want to do it again tomorrow!

Fitting some form of 'Crash' protection is something l should have fitted to my Street Triple. Yesterday l pulled up at a parking spot, inadvertently touched the kerb. The sudden stop caused me to loose balance and fall off. This wasn't a ''Chuck the Bike down the Road'' situation but a rather silly lack of concentration. The bike suffered a rather nasty 'Scrunch' on the timing chain cover because this was the area that came in contact with the kerb...My 2014, otherwise pristine Bike... Upshot was l rushed of to the Alicante Triumph dealer and ordered a new part...€134...... will be ordering the 'crash protection kit' that includes the afore mentioned, alternator and clutch covers !.... Stable door and horse comes to mind.....Saludos desde el España.. Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo Stu....

The RE bars for the Classic 350 work the same way….2 parts joined together and secured on the down spars good system 👍🏻

I also added crash bars to my Bonneville T120, although many said "Uh... it's just going to spoil the look of the bike." Well, apart from the story that in the event of the bike falling, it could protect the tank, exhaust, etc. I also couldn't see the look of the bike being messed up. Plus, many people said afterwards, "Hey, doesn't look that bad. It's even fitting well with the chrome." So if you hesitate for optical reasons, you should try it. Greetings from Germany and have fun and safe travel.

Great video which inspired me to go with the Motone bars rather than the Renntec alternatives. I also qualified for a discount which saved me a few quid. Just a few points for those who attempt this job; I’ve got big hands and I found it almost impossible, I had to adapt a 17mm spanner and hold it with a magnet. I had to buy a new torq socket set which included a T55, which in nearby 50 years of DIY mechanics I’ve never needed. Finally after I’d completed the job, two days after I’d started it I read on a triumph forum somewhere that the torque settings for these bolts is 105NM Not the 40 which you stated. I’m a tittle concerned that I may have to re graze my knuckles in order to get that spanner on the back of those pesky nuts.
A twat-knacker of a job, yep I agree. Cheers Stu!

Great looking bars, stainless steel too, so that any scratches or dings can be easily removed and buffed out! Had to do that recently on my stainless steel Royal Enfield engine bars on my new Classic 350! Fortunately fitted them a week before I had a slow speed scrunch!! So glad I did, repairs would have cost me hundreds of pounds even for an Enfield! Also thanks go to my amazing Dremel tool. Thanks Stu, great video. Merry Christmas to you and your family.🎄🎉

Very neat too, I always notice that crash bars give the bike a greater frontal presence, especially if there are lights mounted. All good👍

Installing crash bars is a pain in the arse on t120. I needed a breaker bar to crack the mounting bolts. Captive nuts would have definitely been easier. Great video!👍

the first thing i ever did when i got a new bike was have crash bars fitted or on my Sprint ST that had a Full Fairing, Crash Bungs as its surprising how much damage can be done by just accidently Droping your bike

  • @OatCakeProductions

They look nice Stu. They suit the bike and don't look out of place.
First thing I did was fit a set of upper crash bars to the Tiger. At 258kg just falling over would cause immense damage to the wallet.
I do have to remove them before it goes for a service. as the robbing gits charge me extra £££s to remove/refit them so they can take the tank off.
Bit of a pain, but it's only 15 mins to remove and about 20 mins to refit them. Extra 5 mins for adjusting the torque wrench to the correct settings.
Always a good thing to check if your after market parts need to be removed for servicing.

Nice vid Stuart. I once saw a T120 with rear crash bars and the mounting points were the top and bottom bolts of the rear shock absorber! Have a great Christmas Stuart!

It looks to me that the front middle engine mount bolt should be 105NM. Not 40NM, As per Haynes. I’ve now got to tighten this to the correct torque.

Thanks for this. I should put a set on my new T100. I need some time getting back into riding after a long hiatus. Best to have some bars at least for a while. My worry is a drop while practicing slow speed skills. Does Motone ship to the US? I don't think Motone US has these and they appear to be a completely separate company now.
UPDATE: I ended up buying these crash bars. I installed them today (5/11/24). At first it was a major struggle because of the impossibly tight spaces around the nut side of each fastener which made it a problem to get a wrench on them. But, after a couple of hours of knuckle bashing, I ended up using angled long nose pliers to reach in and get a grip on the nuts. This did the trick. Once I landed on that solution the job was quite easy. Its a half hour job with that tool. I agree they are very well made and they fit my T100 perfectly. I feel better now with these bars on the bike as I work to restore very rusty skills with some risk of drops for sure. Its been 50 years since I rode a motorcycle. I do love this bike.

By the time the modern classics came about, I was already in cruiser territory. However, I love the videos and particularly the wry sense of humor. May get back into a classic yet. Which brings me to my questions: - do you still ride the Bonnie? Did you ever get sorted with Triumph's "customer service"? ... or did the transmission explode into parts unknown?
Thanks, Uncle Stu and may you and yours have the merriest of holidays!

Crash bars (or highway bars as they are called over the pond) are a must for me as I need highway pegs to get my legs stretched out whenever possible due to circulation issues. If crash bars cant be fitted then that bike is not for me.

Nice Crash Bars, I see your point about their purpose being to protect the engine and exhaust.
I had crash bars on one of my bikes and they stood out further, it was known and understood
that this was to prevent the limbs and feet of the rider from being trapped under the bike during
a slide off, or other unwanted events.
What happened to that type, have they been banned or something?

These crash bars look sensible as bars that stick out too far can turn a low side accident into a much more dangerous high side accident by causing the bike to rock back up onto its tires and flip over.

Never owned a Bonneville (left that to my mates as I wanted to keep all my bike parts on the bike … ouch, a dig at my friend Ian who was constantly tightening nuts on his ‘77 model back in the day), but here I am, an Enfield 500 rider, watching a video of how to fit protection bars to a Triumph!
Great video, Stu, and a memory jogger of the day I fitted bars and spotlights to my FJ1200 all those years ago and yes, I lost the nuts too!

Just for info the Torx size for these bolts is T55. Also recommended, to expand your swear-word vocabulary, you will definitely need a Roger's Profannisaurus
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger%27s_Profanisaurus
PS I have sawed off a cheap 17mm wrench handle to make my own "stubby" and a piece of wooden dowel into the internal nut threads holds them for initial fitting
    Doing mine today, cheers Stu

Finally got them on, and they look great, but what a faff. Also on my machine there was only one washer between the four bolts, on the left lower one, so I replaced it there. I guess Triumph know what they are doing. I am certain that these are Stard type Bars, or as we say here in French Canada, Bar Stards.
