Metrolinx? The city is the one agreeing to pay for it. While it is it is ridiculous sum of money that Metrolinx is charging, the city could have easily said no.
i agree totally with Josh Matlow...the city in its next meeting should turn down this project at that cost...150M could build at least 15 homes or a small rental apartment complex...or two to three community centres, a medical clinic, or many other more necessary projects...a bicycle path is good but 150M is almost 75000 per metre...totally unreasonable!
Something people need to remember with this, the $150 million price tag is the cost Metrolinx (which is under the provincial governments authority) wants to charge the City of Toronto. The actual construction cost may be different depending on how much money Metrolinx/The Province is putting towards the project itself and what other construction needs to be done in the rail corridor to facilitate the path's construction (ex: rerouting utilities). Mostly likely the original 23 million cost was a lowball price point that maybe even included provincial money thats no longer included in this new price, and this new insanely high price is an attempt by someone at metrolinx/the provincial government to pawn off other costs onto the Toronto city taxpayer
For that price you could build one if not two beautiful brand new hostels capable of housing three or four tent cities, and pay all the employees working in them a king's ransom and feed each of the residents like kings and queens to boot. And they wonder why there's a housing crisis, it's because city council never learned a thing about budgeting back in grade school and instead learned all about how to be extremely selfish.
Metrolinx needs foreign competition in Ontario to speed up innovation and lower costs. I assume 95% of that $150M cost is designated for selective salaries within the organization and provincial government. Also, the province must audit Metrolinx projects for the last 20 years and make the results public.
That’s a lot of money for 2 kilometre pathway, but I don’t buy anything Toronto City council says. They just spent 90 million dollars on buying 2 electric ferries when they have gone with a much cheaper alternative that’s not electric.
Lemme guest, the project will overrun by 10x the proposed budget and won't have a definite completion date, much like they're doing with the Eglinton Crosstown 🤪.
Instead of focusing on homeless, hungry and addicted people sleeping on the streets all over downtown Toronto we are building a Railpath for a $150 Million dollars??? What a waste of tax dollars. Shameless!
Metrolinx is fleecing Toronto as usual and city council is allowing it to happen. The railpath has become a dog walk for the people who live along it. It is no longer a safe bike route as it's location does not really go anywhere useful. I would much prefer a path that ended downtown and was more oriented to bikes and people walking. I don't support this use of city money and I agree with Josh.
A path for people to walk/bike on ? Seriously ? There are countless far more important things that are needed where that tax money should be going . smdh
It can't be right. This is too cheap. Metrolinx can easily charge the Canadian government $150BB for this project. And the Canadian government can easily tax Canadians to pay for it
It is obvious that MetroLink has no interest in this project. City should move on and find next one to do the job. By the way, I believe any spending under Mayor Chow will be inflated and is a waste.
How do you know it was her project and not John Tory. We have been wanting this for over a decade. All the projects under John Tory has been inflated. I hope Chow gets to the bottom of it.
That raises questions though. Why do we need four new bridges in just two km? Are the proposed designs the right ones, or could they be built for less? If the proposed bridges are necessary as designed, then isn't this is "bridge project with an MUP" rather than "an MUP with bridges"? (MUP = Multi-user path).
A path for people to walk/bike on ? Seriously ? There are countless far more important things that are needed where that tax money should be going . smdh
Does the public not deserve something nice with their tax dollars. A park in which everyone can enjoy. If the $ 150 million was for the police it would still never be enough. The police today are over funded and over staffed. They are mismanaged and need to manage the resources they have. Why would you reward people that waste the taxpayer's money ? I have watched some of them downtown and I can tell you there are too many of them not doing any work. Lazy. Over paid and overstaffed for sure. And not doing any work. Too many of them show up just for one call, and then a block away people are waiting for someone to show up. We have too many other needs in the city besides blindly giving the police more money every year. Crime keeps dropping the past number of years and yet police budgets keep going up. Wake up people. The money needs to go to the other areas in need to run a city. And our police need to do their jobs and work like the rest of us. And stop being a bunch of crybabies whining for more government money and handouts. Let's have a park that everyone can enjoy. That makes Toronto a better city to live in. It's something positive we can all enjoy.
Brad Bradford and Matlow should just shut it already. All they do is try to get some face time on the news, sick of seeing them. They would rather spend the 150 million on a review of the project and then not have it done at all wasting the money on nothing.
The city cries that they have no money. Then happily agrees to spend $150m on a little pathway. Millions to rename Dundas square that nobody asked for or wanted. Council is a dumpster fire.
Interviewer mentions we are cash-strapped. We are not cash-strapped b/c of this "150 million dollars". What's 150 million dollars to tax payers. This project deserves every tax dollar it recieved. 150 million dollars compared to what you send over to ì--ae- 🧐. The interviewer and interviewee are directing the conversation towards the finances of the project, but it's not.
@@marksmith2053 Thanks Torontonians for downloading, or is that freeloading, the Gardner onto the rest of the province to pay for. Mike Harris sent tons of highways back to the municipalities because of the municipalities uploading them to the province. Yeah, that's it Toronto, repeat the mistakes of the past. That'll work.
@@NotforNow-eb9tb It's the rest of the province using the gardiner that deteriorated the condition of the highway so much so it makes sense for the province to pay for the fixing of it.

Oh Josh….you who shepherded 6 new high rise condos on Balliol between Yonge and Mount Pleasant through the Planning Dept. taking out existing little parks, and low rose rentals. But….bike lanes on Yonge ( hardly used Josh), reducing street parking on front of major medical buildings. Yep…step up Josh…concentrate on your own ruined neighborhood instead of poking your nose into the West end.
Doug Ford changed the law to force the city to accept unlimited development at midtown, so Matlow has no ability to stop new high rise condos from being developed there. He only has some minor leeway to shape the specific forms of the buildings. Even there, Doug Ford put restrictions on what changes the city can ask for.
10 million for the railpath and 140 million in white envelopes
This is another shameful Metrolinx case, and the city agrees to move forward with this price tag. That is a slap in tax payers face.
How does it possibly cost that much? This should be 100X less.
Everything in Toronto is unnecessarily expensive 🤷🏽♂️
Why do we keep allowing Metrolinx to waste taxpayer money?
Metrolinx? The city is the one agreeing to pay for it. While it is it is ridiculous sum of money that Metrolinx is charging, the city could have easily said no.
$$$$$$$ Laundering.
Can. We. Launch. The. Eglinton LRT. First. Please.
Metrolinx: 150 million and 10 years to build
Why isn’t it $143 million? Or $152 million? Their cost of $150 million seems arbitrary and capricious
Totally agree, keep up the good work on accountability! Hit the nail on the head
$150,000,000 for 2km, whoever signed this contract should be fired!!!

300 houses at $500000.00 each.
There is always enough money in these high priced projects to pay for the retirement luxury of Toronto and Ontario politicians.
Absolutely criminal. It is unused railway land paved over, with a few walls put in. 150 million is unthinkable.
If this city , province country had more Josh Maslows' it much be a much better place.
Metrolinx has 0 credit.
Incorrect.
For 1/10th of that price, I'll be out there with a shovel. Probably finish in half the time too
Wonder who’s family is getting the kick back on all of this!
That’s $1900 per inch are they paving it with $100 dollar bills?
No they are paving it with gold foil.

As a contractor I can confirm that the City of Toronto is VERY corrupt
